Ben, a 4-year-old rescued stray, walked 10 miles to find his mate, another shelter dog named Jade.

“They were a bonded pair,” said Charles Brown, manager of the Terre Haute Humane Shelter. After their puppies had been adopted, Ben was then adopted by a family who only wanted one dog.

According to The Tribune-Star, Courtney and Jason Lawler felt the 1-year-old Jade was too skittish to be around their young child. What Ben did next was amazing.

After about three weeks, he found a way to escape when the trash was being taken out. Trekking 10 miles in cold weather, he found his way back to the Terre Haute Humane Shelter within 24 hours. Rescue workers say he then ran to Jade's pen and "kissed" her through the pen.

He eluded shelter workers who tried to catch him; they believe Jade was warning him somehow as Ben knew they were trying to trap him. They did finally catch him a couple of days later. Ben and Jade were “visibly happy to see each other, barking and wagging their tales,” Brown told the Tribune Star.

Not wanting to separate the pair, the Lawlers adopted Jade too. The couple spoke to media about their dogs. "They show utter devotion to each other like my wife and I do," Jason Lawler told NBC News 2. "They go on walks together, and stay together at all times," said Courtney Lawler. "They do have the humanlike qualities. They do have emotions."

Here's the story of a recent rescue. "A teacher saw a car stop next to the school where she is teaching. The car door opened, Parker was thrown out, and the car drove away. Luckily for Parker, the teacher called our friend Faith Easdale, and she called us. ..."

His most publicized rescue is Fiona -- be warned -- there might be tears on this one.

To help Eldad and all the animals share the stories. Hope for Paws.

With the best of intentions. Gathering a few notes for 2013 -- Wish Deborah Barnes luck.
She would like to establish a few house rules for the cats. Does anyone know where
(if such a planet even exists) this has actually been successful?

Dear Cats:

It’s your human tenants here
(i.e., slaves) who just have the tiniest,
itsy bitsy request of a favor from you,
if you don’t mind.

When we come in from outdoors
– whether it be after a long and
grueling day at work, or a quick trip to
the grocery store – can you please
refrain from standing by, and blocking
the other side of the door, waiting for us
to open it, rendering it virtually
IMPOSSIBLE to get in the house without either worrying about one of you escaping
to the outdoors, or stepping on you?

We do understand and appreciate that you are hungry and are excited to see us,
but we generally have our hands full – things such as a purse, briefcase, lunchbox,
or heavy bags of groceries (yes, including cat food and cat paraphernalia) and
it is very difficult to walk in an uninterrupted and safe manner without the possibility
of tripping because of you swarming us and walking under foot.

Perhaps you could just walk in a safe distance ahead of us, or maybe you could walk
to the side of us, or even behind us. It really serves no useful purpose whatsoever having
you directly in the path of our feet, unless it is your intent to have one of us trip and fall.
We really don’t get to the kitchen any quicker to feed you by this congested traffic
pattern of cats. And to be fair, collectively there are seven of you – that’s twenty-eight
paws in total that our four legs have to contend with.

And since we’re on the subject, if you don’t mind as well, maybe you could NOT
walk underfoot first thing in the morning when we wake up. We are already groggy,
have had no coffee, and it is dark. Stepping on each and every one of you as we make
our way to either the bathroom or kitchen is a bit hazardous. You know we get out of
bed every morning at the same time – how about you just wait for us in the kitchen
to feed you instead of getting underfoot and causing us to lose balance as we try
to walk? Do you really enjoy having us step on your tail? Your meows of pain would
suggest otherwise. It’s just a thought, but how about we try it as an experiment one morning
to see how it goes?

And really, we don’t want to have
to resort to such strong measures,
but we will retain a lawyer and file
a suit with you if one of us does slip
and fall. Since we manage the
bookkeeping here and you don’t, we
know you don’t carry cat liability
insurance and could not possibly
afford to be sued. Just something
to keep in mind…

Anyhow, we thank you for your time
and consideration of this very serious matter. As always, we remain ever steady servants
to your every whim and desire and bow to your obvious superiority.

We also want to thank you for letting us share space with you in our own home that we
pay for. We also continue to gladly pay for your food, vet trips, endless toys, as well as to supply
you with unlimited love and to spoil you from sun up to sun down, even while you get underfoot.

A Dog Named Leaf - An interview with Allen Anderson

Pets have a very special purpose - their mission is accomplished regardless of whether it becomes "known/accepted" or not. They exist to help elevate humans to a greater awareness of the multidimensional embodiment of consciousness. Allen and Leaf are yet another demonstration of the greater life/heart connections pets can awaken in us when we choose to allow them to be co-creators/teachers/students/partners rather than -- domestic servants.

Allen Anderson and his wife Linda are the creators of the Angel Animals Network. To date, they have written more than a dozen books about how special animals are in our lives.

The project they chose is one that allows them to pool their efforts and work together, collecting many hundreds of stories and working thousands of hours to relate information that helps us define in no uncertain terms our love for those who steal our hearts by offering the greatest gift known to the humans of the world: unconditional love.

Our animal companions show us our love potential (through their modeling) and the very real need to reconsider the lesser role we have assigned to the animal population of the planet and, at the very least, the need to expand our concept of what it means to love.

Allen gives all animal lovers a gem in A Dog Named Leaf - The Hero from Heaven Who Saved My Life.

A shelter dog; his label: Abandoned. It soon became clear Leaf would not be an easy keeper. He would require a human willing to commit to a rehab project, a human who could pour his life and soul into the effort.

At the time Linda and Allen met Leaf and made the spontaneous, heartfelt decision to adopt, they could not know those are the exact requirements humans need to keep a firm grip on the world of the living: Loving fully, completely, without question, followed by an immersion into doing whatever is necessary to manifest and demonstrate that state.

Leaf needed someone to love him, warts and all. Allen needed an assist to defy the odds that accompany a dicey health condition.

The story of how that transpired and how Allen's life-threatening health crisis actually worked as a salve and, in a very unique way, glue for the family, well, that's what the book is about. Known for sharing everyone else's story, Allen at last steps in to offer a very personal story of his own that includes his spiritual experiences, validated through various confirming interactions with Leaf.

.. The odd thing about this show - a reminder timing is perfect, even when the schedule reflects otherwise. We had to pre-record due to the fact I could only hear some sort of (soothing, actually) white noise at the outset.

The producers and Allen could hear me fine however, so they worked on the audio while I shared my story about the Nightlights and why I feel so strongly about the spiritual connections we have with pets and their role in elevating our conscious awareness. The white noise stopped and the show rolled on. 12:13 pm 01/02/2013.

And so it goes... here is the latest installment of Conscious Living with my guest Allen Anderson... in the company of the divine -- ♥ -- the heart of living: growing our ability to love through pets and all those who inhabit the animal kingdom.

Allen told me Leaf listened to the entire show. I am deeply honored. Thank you to all those in all dimensions who are helping bring these life stories to our conscious awareness.

The vision comes. In my mind's eye, I see a small, black, "piece of carpet" (as Linda would say) crumpled on the shelter floor. Short breaths, sharp mind, his thoughts are determined and clear. There is but one desire - so strong - it rings like a bell. One word, it resonates, the vibration unwavering, steady, pure.

When Linda and Allen stepped through the shelter door, that vibe found them. That little, crumpled, carpet piece knew what it would require to make this stay worthwhile. While upside down in that moment, his world, he held his focus true. What word resonates to the chord of the vibration he sent out? Hero.

No Matter If Hoof, Paw, or Foot - We All Deserve a Chance at Love

Woof! Howdy folks, I am Mr MaGoo, co-author with Kelly Preston of Real Dogs Don’t Whisper. Actually the book was all my idea. I let Mom think it was hers, since we have to throw our parents a bone every now and then. Mom shared with me that I would be a pawing up a few lines here. At first I thought she lost her kibble. What on Earth would I paw about in a magazine that has creatures, um, what are they called? Oh yeah, horses. What the heck are these guys called horses?

First, Carla Mae and I had to do canine research and find out what a horse was. Carla and I got in the car, Mom was busy being a crazy lady, and I drove us all over CA to find a horse. Whew! It wasn’t as easy as I first thought.

We just had to get out and stretch our legs and tails. Lo and behold, what did we stumble across? A horse! Now folks, this horse – we learned later it was a pony - did not sound like us, did not smell like us, and it certainly didn’t go, “woof woof”.

Needless to say, when I heard the lovely furiend try to talk to Carla and I in a language that sounded like “neigh”, I had to really do some tail thumpin’ and wondering what would I paw up about?

Then, I knew! Wuv! No matter if hoof, paw, foot, or fin, don’t we all want and need wuv? In my book, I bark about how Betty Boop survived much longer than Doc thought because she had our wuv. Boopie Bear, as I used to call her, was given a second chance in life all due to Mom’s wuv. Same thing with my other sister, Buffy. She had many other problems, and she overcame them because of wuv. Oh my! Let me tell you about Carla Mae - she was very angry because she wasn’t wuved. After a short time with me, I taught her about wuv.

I did some digging in Mom’s yards and found out she had two horses when she was just a young pup. One was Honey, who had been abused. From what I dug up, Honey was just that, sweet as honey. Mom and her sister gave Honey lots of wuv and Honey wuved them back. Mom and her sister had to go off to college and they gave Honey to a family that had a little boy with cerebral palsy. Wow! Talk about keepin’ the wuv going and helping out a family in need. Furiends, not only did Mom help Honey receive more wuv, she gave a family a chance at happiness with wuv too.

Mom’s other horse, Dandy Boy, had a medical condition to do with his hoofs. One sec, I need to go and Goo-gle it - oh yeah, navicular disease. From Mom’s trail here in the yard, she had a tuff decision to make; she elected to give Dandy Boy the care he needed to keep him pain free. Dandy Boy wuved her for this and he became her BFF in high school.

Wuv is a very pa-werful thing. While we may not be able to actually hold it, we do hold it in our heart. Hmm, maybe Doc should try to bottle wuv, whacha think?

The humans have a saying that goes like this: “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” If Mom judged Honey based on her appearance, she would have missed out a beautiful horse. If Mom judged Dandy Boy about his medical condition, she would have missed out on a BFF. If Mom had judged Betty Boop, she would have missed out on a miracle.

Furiends, are you judging and missing out God’s greatest gift, wuv? Are you judging how we look and run away? Or, are you looking at a situation, thinking “what’s needed is a treat called wuv”?

Yep, this is life lesson that my sisters taught Mom- “Love Conquers All”.

“Christmas at the boarding stable was different from the same holiday at home. It was my third Christmas there, but Santa still found me every year. He brought me a new winter blanket, and he filled the new fuzzy red stocking that hung on my stall door. I was a little worried that he might have put my name on the naughty list, and it would remain empty. Last year one of the stable hands just rolled my door over while he emptied and cleaned my water bucket. In a flash, I used my muzzle to roll open the door and snatch my stocking! It was mostly empty by then, and I pretty much shredded it trying to get at the last of my goodies.

My Christmas stocking was always filled with carrots, dried apple slices, and peppermints. My treats lasted for a couple of weeks, only because Katie miserly doled out only one or two per day. Mom was stalled next to me.

“I noticed that Emma is not as stingy with your ration of treats,” I complained.

Don’t you know, Mom caught me tearing up my stocking!

“Sox! How is Santa going to fill that next year when you trashed it?”

I tried to hide the evidence under the bedding in the back of my stall, but Katie found it.

Great! Then I had to listen to another lecture. You are going to have to be very good the remainder of the year, Sox. It is the only way to get off of the bad boy list so Santa doesn’t pass you by next Christmas.”

["This 19 year old Shep being cradled in his father's arms last night in Lake Superior. Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones. Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect. I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John.

Zipper the bike riding squirrel

Suki Mixson and her pet squirrel have a growing fan club.

Their story is now popping up all across the viral scene. She says she gave a guy a ride home, and his son was so grateful that he rewarded her with a baby squirrel that cried every two hours around the clock, wanting to be fed from a bottle.

And, in her view -- “That was better than if he’d given me a $100 bill.”

Life with Zipper includes an occasional speed bump. Mixon was at bar when Zipper bit someone who tried to touch her. The resulting court order required Mixon to get a wildlife rehabilitation license to keep Zipper and Zipper got three months’ house arrest.

A bright spot on the horizon: Mixson says she is writing a children’s book about Zipper’s life.
