2nd annual Red White & Blue Sunday

We are getting excited about our next PGBC BIG EVENT this Sunday July 3rd at 11am.

*There are some amazing surprises planned that you do not want to miss!!

*Dr. Gene Winfrey will be preaching for us. He is an Experienced Man of God & Evangelist as well as a World War II Veteran.

* We will be recognizing and showing appreciation to all veterans in attendance as well as special honorary recognition to two War Heroes in our Church.

*At the conclusion of the service we will be having an All American Cookout in the Roy Lackey Memorial Gym. We will be serving a Hot dog lunch with all the sides. After lunch we will have a red white and blue competition that should be a sight to see and is sure to make you laugh!! and then to the ball field for a red white and blue balloon launch. The afternoon will conclude with watermelon for all under the shade trees. There will also be a VBS info and registration table available in the gym if you have any questions about REV IT UP 2011 VBS, July 18-22nd.

*There will be no evening services on July 3rd. Only 10am Sunday school and 11am service.

Please make plans to come be with us and please bring somebody with you for this special Patriotic celebration!!

March madness has been a great men's fellowship each Sunday night after our evening worship service. There have been extra guest each of the last 3 weeks with us as well as some guest from other Churches that have joined us after their service. This Sunday night will be the final 4 and the Championship game and is sure to be another night of fun and excitment. For this championship night there will be seating for all to stay and cheer as well as refreshments. We hope you will make plans to be with us for our 6pm worship service and stay for the Tournament Finals immediately following.

It seems as though I am only updating our blog once a month so there is a lot of happenings to cover and probably too much for this one blog. I am going to make it a weekly update starting.....now. Let me just give you three exciting things that has happened since our last blog and then give you some extra info about our next upcoming Big Event.

3. Feb. 25-26: Our 1st Annual Marriage retreat went great!! Pastor Rodney Agan was the guest speaker and was used by God to challenge 15 married couples. It was also a great time of fellowship together for all of our married couples. The final challenge of the retreat was to "Finish well" in our marriages and I know it made a great impact on me as it did in every couple in attendance.

2. Feb. 20th & March 6th: We have a vision at PGBC to help support Missionaries in getting the Gospel of Christ around the world. What a privilege it has been to take on for financial support 2 great missionary families over the last 4 weeks. Thankful for a great Church that has given financially by faith to help this cause. We are honoured to support or new partners to Scotland "the Roberts family" and to the British Isles "the Waye family". This has put us in less than a year from $100 a month for 2 Missionaries to $1,000 for 14 missionary families. Praise the Lord.

1. March 6th & 13th: We are also very thankful for our new Music and Choir Leader, Bro. Gary Hopkins. Bro. Gary and his family Fonda, Grant, and Kaitlyn joined the PGBC family on March 6th. This past Sunday Bro. Gary shared his testimony and vision for the music ministry to the Church just before we had a prayer of dedication over himself and Mrs. Fonda. Then Sunday evening was the 1st choir practice with Bro. Gary as leader. We are so excited about the direction of our music ministry under the new leadership.

Upcoming BIG Event:
April 18-20th: Resurrection Jubilee with Pastor Malcom Carter. This will be the week before Easter. Don't miss what is sure to get our hearts ready for Easter!! Pastor Malcom is the Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Cullman Alabama where he has served since 1999. In that time he has seen his attendance grow from approx. 100 to over 800. This is an effect of the Lords hand upon Bro. Malcom as many lives have been changed, and souls saved.

Exciting News!! New Children Pastor @ PGBC

I continue to be amazed at how the Lord is blessing PGBC!! I have come to realize that God works in His own time but that it is up to us to patiently wait on the Lord. We have had an urgent need in our Church for a Children Church Pastor since we began our Bus ministry August 2010. Though many volunteers throughout the Church did a great job every week of dividing up the children and teaching them the Word of God, it was still evident that we needed a Children Pastor. This was one of 3 major areas on our Church prayer list as we entered 2011. I can now share with you the EXCITING NEWS that God has answered our prayers and PGBC now has a Children Pastor.

We would like to welcome Bro. Chad Gordon as our new PGBC Children Pastor. Bro. Chad joined the PGBC family in March of 2010 along with his wife Ami and children Austin, Brooke, Ashlyn, and Kyle. Bro. Chad is an ordained minister with 15 years of ministry experience and has seen much success in children ministries and youth ministries. We are thrilled to have Bro. Chad as a part of the PGBC staff. I know he will be used greatly!!

Wow!! It is hard to believe it has been a year. One year ago this week, I became the official Pastor of PGBC. After about a Month as interim Pastor, the Church voted us in as the new Pastor. There is no doubt in my mind that God has orchestrated and blessed this plan. A year ago I felt peace in the decision to accept the position but there was still an element of faith and trust to know it was Gods will. Since without faith it is impossible to please God, there must be that unseen and unknown part of every decision in life. However a year later and looking back I can see clearly how Gods plan and leadership is so right and His ways are higher than our ways. It is such a privilege to be a Pastor but it is an extra blessing to Pastor a great Church that loves you and supports your vision and ministry. I hope and pray for many more years as the Pastor of PGBC. Our theme for 2011 is Blessed and that is exactly how I feel to be the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Pastor!!! The keys into the chamber of Gods presence are thanksgiving and praise unto Him!! Take advantage of being a key holder this Thanksgiving season by unlocking the door into His holy precense. God is so good! If we had 10,000 toungues to sing, we could never praise Him enough for all of his wonderful ways. Let us offer up a voice of thanksgiving as we count our blessings this season. Thanksgiving is a great holiday that we all look forward to every year but it truly should be an everyday occurance in the lifes of Christians. So Unlock the gates today, enter into His courts today and use the keys that God has given you to enter with; Thanksgiving & Praise.

All day today, Church members have been sacrificially working around the Church, as we prepare & pray for a great community event "Trunk or Treat" this Saturday evening from 6-8pm. It is encouraging to witness the unity and striving together that helps make it all come together. Today was just the beginning of the busy events that will take place this weekend so I want to go ahead and say a BIG thank you to the PGBC who will be serving, labouring, and striving together to make this event a success. -Pastor

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat is only a couple of weeks away. October 30th at 6-8pm will be an exciting and family friendly time. There will be chili, hot dogs, and Church members with trunks full of candy. As well as games, prizes, and Moon walks for the kids. I hope you will make plans to come be with us for this special community wide event.

New things happening on Wednesday nights

Last Wednesday was an exciting week at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church!! It was the start of Awana for kids preK-6th grade; It was the start of “Teen Fuel” Church for youth ages 12-17 years old; It was the start of a new Adult Bible study series “Walking with Jesus” for all adults. Each of these new groups had great starts and each group exceeded their expectations for week 1. Tonight is week 2 and we are praying for even more children, teens, and adults to fill their clubs and classes. I have a 5 year old and she has been so excited all week about Awana and has already memorized her 1st weeks verse, John 3:16. I am proud of her and thrilled that she loves Church and Awana so much. Teen Church got off to a great start with all of teens spending time together praying in the altar. One of the Leaders said it was an “awesome start”, to what will be a great & growing part of the Church for many years to come. We used a power point presentation for the 1st time during Adult Bible study. Several adults said it made it much easier to follow along and take notes. A weekly Outline sheet will be given out each week that can be filled as I teach through the series. This series on Walking with Jesus is a practical series on the steps of Christ and how we can follow his steps. I pray you will come see for yourself the many great things that are happening on Wednesday nights.

I want to thank everyone who made Homecoming 2010 such a wonderful day at PGBC. Thank you to all who made this our 2^nd largest Sunday attendance this year. Thank you to all of our previous members that came home to celebrate with us; Thank you to all of our 1^st time visitors who attended with us; Thank you to the 50 kids that rode in on the bus; Thank you to the four bus families that personally brought their kids to be in service and dinner with us; Thank you to all of the bus workers; Thank you to the members who worked so hard in preparation for Homecoming (the lawn care, the cleaning, the setting up, and the serving); Thank you to the nursery workers and Children Church workers who served instead of enjoying the worship service; Thank you to all of the cooks who prepared all of the amazing food for the Homecoming dinner; Thank you to Bro. Clark Herring for being our guest Junior Church preacher for the day; Thank you to the Fortner Family for singing for us (Granny Fortner singing for us at 94 years old was a perfect picture of what Homecoming is all about); Thank you to Bro. Lance Carpenter for being our special guest for the day. What a great blessing you were to this special event; Thank you to all of the words of encouragement and excitement for what the Lord is doing at Pleasant Grove. Those words of encouragement go a long way. Thank you Lord for your presence and for your blessings on our Church. Please let greater and mightier things be on the horizon. Vision, Passion, & Operation

Blog #3 Operation: It is important to have a vision, and it is Incredible to have a passion, but it is imperative to put these into operation. God can illuminate a vision down deep in our soul, and God can ignite a passion down deep in our soul, but then God calls us to step out by faith to action. There can be no operation without an operator. It takes an operator that God can place a vision, a passion, and a willingness to be moved to action. Act 2 gives us a perfect example of the 1^st Church that had all three of these areas working: Vision, Passion, and Operation. This resulted in vs. 47, "And the Lord added to the Church daily such as should be saved."

Blog #2: Ro 12:11 "Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;". There is a Passion in serving Christ that is very important to the effect of carrying out a vision. Jeremiah likened his passion to a fire shut up in his bones. Many obstacles can try to stop a vision but where there is a burning passion, those obstacles become stepping stones. Just as without a vision the people perish; without a passion sinners will never learn about our Saviours passion (Acts 1:3). The kind of passion that will make a difference is Compassion. Jude vs. 23 gives us this promise but is also followed in vs.24 with the reason having compassion and making a difference is important: "pulling them from the fire."

Vision, Passion, & Operation

Blog 1: Vision

Proverbs 29:18 tells us that "Where there is no vision, the people perish". Notice that in this passage there is only one spiritual characteristic of having NO vision; the people perish. It therefore lets us know that the opposite effect of a vision is people NOT perishing but rather being saved. Every ministry and outreach of PGBC as well as the future vision must be centered on seeing people trusting Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and be saved. When we read this passage in light of the perishing mentioned in John 3:16 it lets us know how very important having a vision is.

Homecoming 09-19-2010

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church has a rich history & legacy in the Lawrenceville community. There have been many lives changed and influenced forever through God's work here over the last 103 years. Homecoming is an invitation to all who once called PGBC home to be welcomed back for a one day reunion. We hope you will attend and worship with us. A wonderful meal will be served by the Church after the morning service. There will be no Sunday school or evening service and our morning service will begin at 10:30am on this special occasion. We are very excited to have Bro. Lance Carpenter with us for Homecoming this year as our guest singer. Bro. Lance's powerful testimony and spirit filled singing will be a blessing to all in attendance. He will not only be singing for us during the morning worship service but also immediately following lunch. Please make plans to be with us for Homecoming 2010.

Children’s Ministry

God never said to have adult like faith or parent like faith but He did say to have child like faith. I was reminded of the importance of Children's ministries last night during our mid week Church service as a Godly Christian mother of 3 testified of when she was saved at 11 years old. After her powerful testimony of Gods grace, I asked for a show of hands of those who were saved at 12 years old and younger. It was amazing to see that more than half of the congregation was saved by Gods grace as a child. This moment challenged me once again to make much of children's ministries at PGBC. I am very excited about Kids day on August 1^st, VBS on August 2-6^th, Bus ministry beginning on August 8^th, and AWANA beginning in September. – Pastor Scott

Pony Rides, Outreach, Dinner, Movie, & Worship

These are some of the exciting activities around the Church this weekend. The Team Kids Club will be meeting at the Church at 10:30am on Saturday 07/17/10 for their 3 hour adventure that will include a free box lunch and a pony ride for all the kids. The kids have been working hard every Wednesday night at 7pm in their Summer Scripture memory promotion. I am proud of Grace who I learned was the first to the 10 verse memorization mark. Great job to all of the children who are learning new Bible verses every week. Outreach will begin at 11am on Saturday as we will be visiting neighborhoods in our area and signing up children and youth for the upcoming VBS & Bus Ministry. I am praying for a fruitful day of outreach. There will also be a Dinner & a Movie for the Young Adult Class at 5:30pm on Saturday at the Church. This event will be a great time of fellowship & fun with a free meal and a Christian based movie. Then, Sunday will bring another opportunity to worship our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. Make plans to be a part of a Bible class (for all ages) at 10am, 11am worship, and 6pm worship.
