Sunday, June 7th from 1:15 to 4:45pm at PGSF.

$40 members/$45 non-members

In the spring time, all of nature is going through a process of cleansing, renewal, and re-birth. The same is happening in your body. The same is happening in your body, and it is during this season that we have the greatest capacity to re-new ourselves and shed toxins, tensions, & stagnant energies that may have built up during the long winter months…

This workshop will consist of simple meditation, breathing practices, a series of long held yin yoga poses, a gentle flow practice, soft music, and the intention to clear, cleanse, and refresh the body, mind, & spirit.

Yin yoga is appropriate for almost everyone, from yoga beginners to advanced practitioners. However, some familiarity and knowledge of the yin yoga practice will be highly beneficial before coming to this workshop.

Please check out one of Amy’s classes at Planet Granite San Francisco before signing up for this workshop (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30am; Saturdays at 11:15), or email Amy for more information about yin yoga or any other questions you might have.

Sign up with Amy directly in any of her weekly classes (check the Planet Granite website for her schedule) or email Amy at bcrocker2000@yahoo.com.

Rodney ‘Alika’ Medeiros is the founder of Kilo Lani yoga, a flowing vinyasa style that integrates yoga with the ancient wisdom and movement of the Hawai’ian islands. The word yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, and in Hawaiian Kilo Lani means to “reach or look towards Heaven”. Thus Kilo Lani is a union of the body, mind, and spirit with the ultimate goal of reaching Heaven (or nirvana). It focuses on body alignment while building strength, combined with elements of Tai Chi and movements from the Hula. There is an intense emphasis on core strength and placement of the hands. Much of the instruction focuses on breathing while maintaining balance. His teaching will leave you calm and refreshed, putting you in touch with your true potential while transforming your health and well being in the process.

Alika has studied with many top instructors at the Yoga School of Kailua, Hawaii, Dharma Mittra’s Yoga Center in NYC; and has recevied additional mentoring from bay area instructors Stephanie Snyder, Howard Sum Tom, Ralph STephens, and Richard Diehl. He is a member of the International Yoga Federation and also holds licensure in Massage Therapy in Hawaii and CA. He is a regular speaker at studios and schools across the country. For more information on Kilo Lani yoga visit his website at www.kilolani.com.

Please welcome Alika as our newest instructor at Belmont. You can also meet him when he comes to Belmont Wednesday evenings to do massage therapy for the members.

“Pilates for Athletes” will begin the first week of May. This class draws from the traditional Pilates method, but is designed for athletes looking for a different yet challenging core workout. These exercises will develop strong abdominal, back, butt and deep postural muscles to support the skeletal system and act as the “powerhouse” of the body.Students will perform a variety of exercises which, paired with detailed verbal cues, will work to activate, challenge and ultimately build the core muscles. Participate in this class and you will have enhanced strength, balance, and flexibility both in life and in any sport you love to play.

Alison is a lifelong athlete and avid climber who first discovered Pilates in 2006 when a series of back injuries left her in pain and unable to participate fully in the activities she lovedThe practice of Pilates helped her to strengthen and stabilize her core, which led to a happier life and, as an added benefit, a much improved climbing ability. Alison believes strongly in the benefits of Pilates and loves to challenge students of all levels to increase their overall strength and level of fitness.

Franco’s 5pm Monday and Wednesday classes have been cancelled, so he will be moving to the following class times :

Thurdays 7:30pm in the North Studio (beginning May 7th)

Sundays at 4pm in the South Studio (beginning May 3rd)

The current Thursday Iyengar class will be discontinued at the end of April.

Franco is a fabulous instructor with a wealth of experience and we are happy to have him take on a class time that we hope many of you will find more accesible. His classes will be titled “Vinyasa,” but Franco draws mainly from the ashtanga series and iyengar principles to guide you through a flow style, well rounded class.

Come join Franco in a mindful, detail-oriented, fully present yoga practice, which will not only stretch and strengthen the body, but, ultimately, increase awareness of the self.
