Here’s something for all you ravers out there! Monsieur Magnetik from Belgium has a new EP called Animatronik. It comes with three grinding synth driven tracks for anytime of the night or into the morning. First up is the EP’s namesake with a builder primed to jump start any party into gear. ‘Born To Rave’, with it’s jumpy rhythms and snare rolls will keep you marching into the wee hours just in time to drop ‘My Friend’ on the crowd to jolt the whole scene back to earth. Personally I’m a fan of the ‘my friend’ track, so take a listen to it right here and make sure to check out the other two tracks too!

Mr Magnetik – My Friend

Buy the EP right HERE

Mokusch, a project of 2 guys from Germany, has mailed us two fresh tracks. They’ve been a DJ-Duo for about 4 years, they call themselves “fictive brothers” and they create techno music with a minimalish flavour on top of it. The first track has a rather weird title((Die Wissenschaftliche Geheimpolizei Aus Madrid), btw I personally love weird titles, and it even has a woman speaking Spanish throughout it. This could be a great afterhours tune! The second track builds more to a central point and from there on you really get into the right vibe! It’s more of a floorfiller than Die Wissenschaftliche Geheimpolizei Aus Madrid
, and yes… I really had to mention that title again! Check it out!

Time for a new load of tracks! Every day we receive tons of new things and trying to listen to everything is not that easy, but we try! Therefore, here’s a personal selection of the things we’ve recently received. Lot’s of variation so fun for everyone!
Let’s go downtempo first, shall we! Egotomb did a rework of Daft Punk’s Tron Legacy. It’s a couple of BPM’s faster now than the original and it creates a nice vibe! Really love this one!

Daft Punk - Tron Legacy (Egotomb Rework).mp3

Jordon Saxton has produced a couple of stunning dubstep tunes again. Be aware, ’cause your ears might explode while listening to this!

Groove Armada - Wont Kneel (JSaxton Remix).mp3
JSaxton - Game Over.mp3

Time for something completely different then! Moscow Youth Cult, based in Nottingham UK, produces tracks which they call “VHS pop”. In their e-mail they also referred to Four Tet, Fuck Buttons and Boards of Canada, having more or less the same style/sound. I was intrigued by that description so I listened to their latest album.. and yep it’s good! Really reminds a bit of obscure 70′s sci-fi films! They even have a track called Phase IV, so we really couldn’t ignore that .

Moscow Youth Cult happiness machines 11 happiness machines.mp3

To finish, here’s the sickest track I’ve heard in a while! The guy calls himself Wondawulf, he’s from Budapest and he creates drumstep. Yep drumstep… take some drum&bass, add a bit of dubstep and there you have it.. moreover the following tune also has a bit of a jazzy feel.. take a listen, you’ll know what I mean! Also check out the video, hilarious! It’s a 320, let’s see if you guys dare to drop this one in public!

Sheee-iiiiiiiiiiiit, it’s gettin’ hot in here! Don’t know where you guys at but 35 degrees really is something! Therefore today a mixtape that perfectly suits these burning temperatures. Kiani & his Legion, a.k.a. Thomas Neyens, may not immediately ring a bell, still, if you mention his name when you’re in his hometown Genk in Belgium, everyone will tell you about the mindblowing parties that often go on untill noon! The “legion” in his name basically refers to the art of spinning vinyls together with friends, it’s all about the music and having a good time! Being influenced by the ’97 – ’04 Berlin scene and also the late ’80′s, begin 90′s Detroit techno, this really is the stuff that keeps you going in your head, holding on to a groove that simply never ends. The afterparty vibe for all those after hours souls or as he says himself:

Them darkened souls need sunrise disko!

He used 2 turntables and two cd players, all very oldskool and underground, to record the mix. With 90% vinyl, expect the real deal and no nonsense touch! The mix lasts for almost 3 hours and features tracks by John Beltran, Soul Capsule, Isolée, Common Factor and DJ Qu. For specific track ID’s, leave a comment .
So sit back, relax, have a drink, put on those sunglasses and enjoy, this is simply awesome my friends!

I don’t know how it is where you live but here it is summer and the sun is shining hard. I’m leaving to France in couple days, gonna enjoy the summer even more, far away from the internet.. I thought it’s good time to pop some new tracks out there. I’ve been getting tons of messages the past few days. I really can’t keep up with them. But here’s a selection of my personal favorites. I bet you dig them to.

We start of with a brand new production by Graphics. If you’re a frequent phase02 reader you should already know him. Read more here and get his Naked Mario Kart remix here. He’s truly a huge talent and still very very young.

Stinger – Pleasure (Graphics Remix)

Next I’d like to share this Ellie Goulding drum ‘n bass remix by Messed. I love it because it reminds me of beautiful sunset moments on the beach. Enjoy.

Ellie Goulding – Lights (Messed Remix)

Kinetica Records has released “Boys & Girls” by Drlkt Freddie. Here’s the Disco Damage remix. You can find additional remixes by DJ Wool, Killer on The Dancfloor and Sick Boy over at Beatport.

Drlkt Freddie – Boys & Girls (Disco Damage Remix)

Don Diablo has created a crazy mash up with probably his most successful track “Who’s Your Daddy” and “Seven Nation Army” by the White stripes. Just have to listen to believe it. It’s probably been launched in the blogosphere by tons of other sites already. But here it is anyway.

Don Diablo vs. The White Stripes – Seven Nation Daddy

I’d like to end with this relaxing sound by VeemanJanssen.

Okay, who asked for more dirty electro? This is gonna be the post you’ve been waiting for. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of this genre anymore. But I’ve been getting tons of (sometimes) quite decent dirty electro productions I couldn’t ignore them anymore. So lets get this over with. A week ago the label Buzzard Gulch, which is a division of Coco Machete, has released a compilation called “Night Of The Living Blog”.

The new compilation from Buzzard Gulch, Night Of The Living Blog, pits the dead against the living in a struggle
for survival. The tracks, nightmarish stormers from up and coming producers, have been hand selected to
represent best what’s bubbling just six feet underground. Chaos descends as just outside the fringes of the music
industry hordes of relentless bloggers populate a modern soundscape with a raw music culture reanimated.
Google tried to stop them, the ‘Industry’ has tried to stop them, but they keep coming back in a blood thirsty
lust for new sounds. THEY WON’T STAY DEAD!

Tiefschwarz, the German deep house specialist are back with their third album ‘Chocolate’. A huge huge leap forward so it seems, since this is their first release on their own record label , Souvenir. This release is the result of their artistic freedom that comes with their independence. Like they describe “Chocolate is everything: subtle, bitter and sweet, without milk and sugar, it is hand crafted from only the finest ingredients.” An album that will make you do the craziest dance moves on the dancefloor, yet at the same time, Chocolate will be perfect to listen to outside the club.

This is not all. Ali and Basti worked with Phillipe Majer, alias Santé to produce the tracks, and the new dynamic that has emerged from the collaborative production process has manifested itself in in a distinct live quality. So much so that Tiefschwarz will now be performing live for the first time. You don’t wanna miss this. Experience the first live performance of Tiefschwarz this summer!

Time for an exclusive new track here on Phase02! Science is a collaboration between Dennis Nesen and Maarten Dekort, two dubstep producers from Antwerp. I have been following these guys for a while because they really produce quality tracks. Now they also agreed to do a little interview for all you Phase02 readers out there.

Phase02: Ok guys, tell me, when did you start working together as Science? How did you meet?

M: We met in the end of 2007 when Dennis was still playing a lot of dnb and jungle. I think we had to play at the same party and he had just bought some of his first dubstep vinyls. When I started my set he came up to me and I think we even ended up playing some tracks together. So we swapped our e-mails, got in touch with each other afterwards and some months later we decided to start a dubstep project.
D: After we had some talks about this new sound that we were both feeling, he invited me to come over to a friend of his to play some tracks and have a beer.. We ended up producing. After the track was finished we played it at a party called Eclectix and it went down very well. From then on we started as Science.

Phase02: Have you always produced dubstep or also other genres?

M: Before I got into Dubstep, I was producing from time to time but never took it too seriously. I was making techno, dnb, even some breakcore… It’s horrible though when I listen to it now. I’ also used to make hip hop beats for some friends but those will probably never see the light of day. I try not to focus on making dubstep too much. It all depends on the mood I’m in when I sit down to make some music. Sometimes I just like to experiment with all kinds of BPM’s and then just see what happens. The other day I’ll just go for a straight Dubstep tune.
D: As a producer I started immediately with Dubstep. From time to time I’m making some house, drum&bass,… but I never finished one. Time is a big problem for me.

Phase02: Have you shared decks with famous artists yet?

D: We’ve been on the bill with pioneers like Mala, Coki, Loefah, Hatcha, Pinch, Headhunter, and many more. Which of course is always a pleasure!

Phase02: Cool! What do you think of the way dubstep is going these days? Is it becoming too mainstream?

M: Well I must admit most dubstep these days doesn’t really get me that much as when I first got into it. Still, there are a lot of producers that still make quality stuff and are consistent in what they do. And those producers are the ones we mainly play.
D: I think Dubstep becoming more mainstream isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s a sound that can easily be commercialized so I think it’s a natural progression. The only bad thing about it is that it’s just a certain side of dubstep that is gaining that mainstream attention.
M: Exactly: the more aggy stuff that is made strictly to make people jump up on the dancefloor. Therefore more and more people that are new to the genre don’t know where the sound came from and how it all evolved in what it is today.

Phase02: Absolutely! Your myspace says: “Expect fast mixing while combining deep, menacing vibes with the more uplifting and energetic side of the genre.” However when I listen to your own productions, I often have the feeling that it sounds more calm (like bamboo dub), you feel there’s a difference between your live sets and your own productions?

M: Well as producers we are just making what we want to hear ourselfs when we go to a dubstep night, which is more layed-back most of the time. As DJ’s however we feel it’s also important to make people dance. We will never play a tune that we don’t like but variation in our opinion is the key to a good set. That’s why we try to balance things out between deep and heavy stuff. On the other hand, we have been making some more dancefloor oriented beats ourselves. Check out “The Power of Fear”, which is coming out on Subway later this year.
D: Personally I think our productions are as varied as our DJ-sets. One of the latest tracks we’ve made is a garage tune, so we are creating and playing everything we like, and that’s going way further than Dubstep. Even to us every DJ-set is a surprise.

Phase02: I absolutely love “Bamboo Dub” by the way. Where did you guys got that flute sound from, samples?

M & D: Thanks man, always nice to hear. Except for some synth-shots we didn’t use any samples. If you’re referring to the flute thing, we played that ourself.

Phase02: Nice! Something else now. What are your top 5 dubstep tunes ever? Can we expect them during your own sets?

M: I always find it important to reflect some history in our sets. We want to let the crowd know were we came from musically as Djs (and human beings for that matter) and in what direction we are heading. That’s why we always try to play some tunes that in some way have done something for us or have touched us emotionally. So of course you can expect some classics. To put down a straight top 5 would be too hard, so I’ll just give 5 of my all time favorites in no order: Hijak – Babylon Timewarp, Loefah – Rufage, Mala – Blue Notez, Appleblim – Vansan and something that came out more recently: Emika – Double Edge (Pinch Remix), that tune kills me!

D: I really can’t give you a Top 5. Way too hard. I’ll give you some tracks/albums/… that really made a difference to me. For example ‘Punks’ by Juju. That was the first Dubstep record I bought in the beginning of 2007. I remember Grimelock dropping and rewinding this one at Dourfestival 2007. You should’ve seen my reaction. Digital Mystikz – Haunted and the flip ‘Anti War Dub’. Still going crazy when I hear this at a party. Distance’s ‘My Demons’ album with tracks like Night Vision, Traffic, and so on is definitely one I have to mention. Loefah – Horror Show and last but not least Saviour from Belgium! He made this studio mix in 2007 with only his own productions. Tracks like ‘Why’ ‘Sound of Luv”, “Stampede”,… I really liked every track in that mix!

Phase02: Why should we come and watch Science live?

D: Because we really play everything. We always try to adapt a little because every crowd is different. So if you come see us, there is a big chance you will hear something you like, even if your not completely into dubstep
M: Or because you’re feeling the tunes or you seen us before and you liked it.

Phase02: Final question: how would you describe the track counterbalance that we’ll also share with our readers?

M: Well of course it’s not something that will put dancefloors on fire, that’s for sure. When we made the track we just wanted to step away from the idea that all Dubstep has to be banging and hard hitting. We wanted to write a deep, dark, more musical piece of music so that’s exactly what we did. For me, the tune is like sitting in your room at night and having that feeling of being the only person on the planet.
D: haha, deep. But it’s true. I really enjoy this kind of music, even at a party. Although it has a mellow vibe, it makes me happy in a way. Close your eyes when listening to this one.

Phase02: Ok, I’ll do that for sure! Thanks a lot guys for the interview and best of luck for the future!

Right, you could already read how Science described Counterbalance themselves, now take a listen to this exclusive new tune here on Phase02!

5 days too late. I know. I make it up to you with this incredible varied chart. I’ve found some amazing techno, dubstep, electro, house, etc. It’s all in there. Now I’m gonna aim my speakers out the window and enjoy the sun with a nice cold beer. Check out the chart and buy their music. Oh yeah before I forget, notice the new audio players. Let me know what you think. Now go grab some tunes.

Only one month after Some Tunes 3, Basserk is already back with their 4th compilation. Some Tunes present the best electro, pistolpop, fidgethouse, dubstep and electropunk from Basserk artists including: Rawfare, Fantastadon, Petr Passive, Klipar, Distrakt, Lazy Late Kidz, Shock and Awe, Aerotronic, Boemklatsch and more. Clearly a compilation all the maximal lovers should look out for.

Some Tunes 4 is available on Beatport, iTunes, Basserk Shop and other online music stores.

There’s even more news about Basserk. PartyMode, two young guys from California, released their first Ep “A La Mode” on Basserk Records. They made four filthy, dubsteppie tracks and added two electro remixes by Chokr and Nite theories to the release.

Getting slammed by dirty bass and hard banging beats is the only way through this album. So make sure you’re ready for it. This is 100% Basserk!

Again this release is available on Beatport, iTunes, Basserk Shop and other online music stores.

If this is not enough, they’re launching a new Kiss Off party the 19th of June in the Overtoom 301, Amsterdam. Guess what! I’m spinning their alongside Distrakt (AUS), Moore & Lezz (B) and Rawfare (SK). If you’re in or around Amsterdam, this is the place you want to be the 19th. Hope to see you there!

By Jeremy Geddes

Today I decided to put up a new “Drop It” selection. You remember? This was originally created for all the tracks that reached our dropbox on soundcloud. Today it’s more about the whole collection of tracks that reached us in any way. We try to go through most of them, at least as many as possible and select the ones that could impress us the most. So here we go this is our 11th selection. If you’d like to make it in this post, just put it in our dropbox, send us an email or message on soundcloud or facebook and we’ll look into it. We don’t let our personal music taste influence our choice, we’ll try to select the tracks objectively. Here we go.

A new remix by Graphics has reached our dropbox! Again he managed to impress us with his production skills.

Picturehouse – Blackout Rolling ft. Mr ShaoDow (Graphics Remix)

The next track I’d like you to listen is one I discovered accidentally earlier this week. I was searching hypem for a cool track to make a little animation on. Suddenly I bounced on the following track. I’m not even sure about the complete name. But it rocks! Enjoy! For those who’re interested here’s the little animation I was talking about: Energize Case Study (vimeo)

Pretty Lights – Finally Moving Remix

For all retro game fans, more specifically Zelda, here’s a brand new track by BbobNRokstedy produced around the original 8-bit Zelda tunes and bleeps. For all DJs who’d like to surprise their crowd with some nostalgic gameboy sounds. This electro banger is a 320. Have fun!

BbobNRokstedy – Zelda 2.0

Next up is Owl Vision! From previous posts about this Swedish trash machine we know this is gonna be extremely hard and dirty. If that’s not enough he actually trashed up Toxic avenger this time. Oh boy…

The Toxic Avenger – Toxic Is Dead (Owl Vision Remix)

What about some dubstep and a catchy vocal? Here’s the answer: Zoe Leela remixed by The Unik and Tambour Battant. *explosion!

To end with I have a house remix of the legendary Message In The Bottle by the Police. That’s right! I bet you all can’t wait to find out how that sounds like. Right?

The Police – Message In The Bottle (Thoko Bootleg Remix)

So far our 11th drop it post. As you can see all genres are welcome. We select the ones we like for whatever what reason. Enjoy!
