 &lt;tr class="odd"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Methanolic extract of Cymbopogon citratus leaves at the dose of 200 mg/kg increased the percentage of time-spentand the percentage of arm entries in the open arms of the elevated plus-maze (EPM) and decreased the percentage oftime-spent in the closed arms of EPM. Moreover, it prolonged the ketamine-induced latency to sleep but had nosignificant effects on total sleeping time induced by ketamine. Also, the locomotor activity was affected but not to thesame extent as observed for diazepam. The anxiolytic effects of methanol extract Cymbopogon citratus leaves may berelated to their content of flavonoids. This study validates the traditional use of the plant in management of anxiety.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is a well-known spice and herbal medicine to treat such symptoms as fever, cough, etc,especially its antibacterial activity, which made it widely used in clinic or as preservatives in food industry. The papercompared the antibacterial activities in solvents of dried ginger and processed ginger. The results showed that eachorganic solvent had antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria (two strains) and gram-negative bacteria (fourstrains). However, no significant differences appeared between dried ginger and processed ginger and among of gingerorganic extracts.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="odd"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Introduction: Solanum melogena L. or egg plant is one of few cultivated Solanaceous species originating from the oldworld. Methods: To determine antimicrobial effects of egg plant, well agar diffusion assay for bacteria and colonydiameter method for fungi were used. Crude extracts of different parts of Solanum melogena L. (egg plant) were testedfor their antimicrobial activities against seven pathogenic microorganisms that include two strains of fungi(dermatophytes) and five strains of bacteria. Results: Root and fruit extracts showed significant effects on testedmicroorganisms. Epidermophyton floccosum considered the most susceptible fungus for extract of these parts with MICvalue of 15 and 28 mg/ml respectively. Meanwhile, the bacterium Proteus vulgaris exhibited susceptibility to all testedextracts with less MIC value. Conclusions: Crude extracts of different parts of S. melogena showed variable potentialeffects on various types of pathogenic microorganisms.&lt;/p&gt;

The water extract found maximum extractive value (3.730%) than other solvents used. All thetested metabolites were qualitatively present in ethanolic extract and aqueous extract. Different concentrations of plantparts (root stem, leaf) were used for molluscicidal activity against snail Lymnaea acuminate. The maximum activity wasfound in stem LC50 at 364 mg/liter and ethanolic extract LC50 at 20 mg/liter.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;The present investigation deals with Pharmacognostical, physicochemical and phytochemical analysis of Hibiscusmicranthus Linn.,. The macroscopic and microscopic characters, physical constant values, extractive values, ash values,micro chemical analysis and fluorescence analysis were performed. The presence of lignified, thick wall, libiform typeof fibres with pointed tips &amp;amp; vessel elements with oblique perforations plates having short, pointed tails as seen in thepowder of stem were the distinguishing microscopic features and can be used as anatomical markers. Chemomicroscopiccharacters present included lignin, starch, suberin, mucilage, cellulose, protein bodies and calcium oxalate crystals.Physical constants performed were loss on drying, ash content, acid insoluble ash and water soluble ash. Extractivevalues in pet. ether (60-80oC), chloroform, alcohol and hydroalcoholic were determined. Fluorescence studies of thepowder were carried in ordinary light and UV light with various solvents. Phytochemical screening of successive extractsshowed positive reactions for steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, phenols and tannins. The fingerprints of thehydroalcoholic extract were obtained by HPTLC technique in three best mobile phase solvent systems. The flavonoidcontent of hydroalcoholic extract was determined by colorimetric method. Chemical profiling of hydroalcoholic extractwas also performed by GC-MS analysis. Further a HPLC method with photodiode array detector was followed to quantifyrutin in hydroalcoholic extract of Hibiscus micranthus ( HEHM). The present study provides details to characterize thePharmacognostical, physicochemical and phytochemical parameters. An accurate and rapid HPLC quantification methodhas also been developed for quality control determination of rutin from Hibiscus micranthus stem.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Introduction: Ficus racemosa Linn. syn. Ficus glomerata Roxb. (Family – Moraceae) is found commonly in India. Recentpharmacological findings indicate that its leaves possess significant anti-diabetic, anti-ulcer, hepatoprotective, anti-diarrheal,analgesic, larvicidal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory activities, which comply with the claims made in the traditionalmedicinal texts. However, no conclusive pharmacognostic study of its leaves has been performed yet. Methods: The presentinvestigation deals with the qualitative and quantitative microscopic evaluation of the leaf material and establishment ofits quality parameters, including physicochemical and phytochemical evaluation. Results: Chief microscopic charactersinclude vascular bundles having patches of perimedullary phloem and sheath of calcium oxalate cluster crystals. Chiefcharacters of powder include hooked-top trichomes, calcium oxalate prisms, cluster crystals and xylem vessels withreticulate thickening. Various physicochemical parameters were also established. Phytochemical analysis showed thepresence of many important classes of phytoconstituents like alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, tanninsand carbohydrates. Conclusion: Such a study would serve as a useful gauge in standardization of the leaf material, isolationof medicinally important phytoconstituents, performing pharmacological investigations and ensuring quality formulations.&lt;/p&gt;

Differentparts of the Jatropha curcas plant are employed in Indian traditional medicine for the treatment of several disorders. Thepresent work was targeted at developing quality parameter on the basis of pharmaceutical parameter leaves are reportedto be employed in cancer, as an abortifacient, antiseptic, diuretic, purgative and haemostatic. Pharmacognosticalparameters of the leaves were studied with the aim of drawing the pharmacopoeial standards for this species.Macroscopical and microscopical characters, physico-chemical constants, phytochemical study for the presence ofvarious secondary metabolites and HPTLC fingerprint profile of methanolic extract were studied. The determination ofthese characters will aid future investigators in their Pharmacological analyses of this species.&lt;/p&gt;

It grows up to one meter high,bears small white-colored flowers. Even though this plant has gained scientific importance recently, there is a needfor the pharmacognostic standardization. Hence, in the present work the leaf and petiol part of the plant were subjectedto various microscopical and physical evaluations. In the microscopical studies, the different cell structures andarrangements were studied and in physical evaluation the ash values and extractive values were studied. The variouspharmacognostical constants were obtained which could help in the development of a suitable monograph for the plant.&lt;/p&gt;

It is commonly known as kali aghedi in Hindi and kakajangha in Sanskrit. The herb is used for its anti-bacterialproperty (tuberculostatic), snake poison, in bone fracture, sprain, fever, cold, cough and for ear and eye treatments. Thechemical composition of the dried aerial parts showed 14-methyl-tritriacont-14-en-15-ol and 35-hydroxynonatriacontanal.In this review we have explored the detailed pharmacognostical study of stem and leaf as well as physicochemicalparameters, phytochemical screening and leaf constant.&lt;/p&gt;

The plant Caralluma adscendens has been used in different system of traditional medication for the treatmentof disease and aliments of human being. It is reported to contain various glycosides, flavonoids and steroids. It has beenreported as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, analgesic, anti ulcers, antibacterial, hypoglycemic activities.There are also reports available for traditional uses of this plant for its dermatitis, anti-obesity, as a bloat, wound healingactivities. Many isolated constituents from Caralluma adscendens lack the reports of pharmacological activities, whichsupport its further pharmacological activities.&lt;/p&gt;

Daily single dose (2.0 g/kg) administration of aqueous extract (A.E.) , ether extract (E.E.)and methanol extract (M.E.) for 28 days of S. rebaudiana could not show any significant change in ALT and AST levels in rats.Blood sugar level was found to be decreased on day 28 in groups of rats treated with A.E., E.E. and M.E. of S. rebaudiana.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Cymbopogon flexuosus (D.C) Stapf.(Graminae) commonly known as lemon grass is used as indigenous medicine.Externally applied, it forms an excellent embrocation in chronic rheumatism, neuralgia and other painful affections.Hence The essential oil from leaves of Cymbopogon flexuosus (D.C) Stapf (Graminae) was subjected to analgesic andanti-inflammatory screening using various animal models. The anti-inflammatory activity was studied using acute orchronic treatment in rats. Analgesic effect of the essential oil was evaluated in acetic acid-induced writhing and tail flickmodel.The essential oil exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activities in the acute carrageenan-induced rat pawedema and the chronic granuloma pouch models. However, it was devoid of analgesic activity in tail flick model.On thebasis of these findings, it may be inferred that Cymbopogon flexuosus is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent andthe results are in agreement with its traditional use.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Wrightia tinctoria L. leaf hexane, methanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and water extracts were screened against plantpathogenic bacteria by in vitro. The extracts were tested using disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitoryconcentration. Ethyl acetate and methanol extracts showed significant antibacterial activity against gram negativebacteria; the MIC was 50 μg/ml for Xanthomonas campestris and Erwina sp. Study shows Wrightia tinctoria leavespossessed potent antimicrobial properties against plant pathogenic bacteria suggesting that the active principles maybe useful in the control of plant disease.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Introduction: In the present study, hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol and methanol extracts of fruits ofMuntingia calabura L (Elaeocarpaceae) were examined total phenolics (TP) and in vitro antioxidative capacity.Methods: For the determination of total phenolics (TP) and in vitro antioxidative capacity, established assay methodssuch as 1, 1 - diphenyl – 2- picryl hydroxyl (DPPH) radical assay, reducing power, ferric ion chelating assay, superoxideanion, and nitric oxide scavenging activity assays were used with reference to synthetic antioxidant butyl hydroxyltoluene (BHT). One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) were carried out.Results: The TP ranged from 1486 ± 0.028 mg GAE /100 of fresh mass (FW) to 358 ± 0.020 mg GAE/100 of fresh mass(FW). The data obtained from the study showed high levels of antioxidant activity of the fruit extracts. Conclusion: Fromthe findings, it was observed that there was a well correlation between antioxidant activity and total phenolic/flavonoidcontents. These results may be useful to further analyze wild edible fruits that contain most antioxidant activity in orderto identify the active constituents.&lt;/p&gt;

Materials and Method: In the present work,different extracts of Chenopodium album Linn (C.album) were prepared and tested for the presence of secondarymetabolites and various physico-chemical parameters for the phytochemical analysis of plant. All polar extract weretested for the free radical scavenging activity. Results: The pharmacognostical results exposed the presence offlavonoids, tannins and alkaloids in the plant and significant physico-chemical values. Utmost free radical scavengingactivity was found to be in butanol fraction and lowly in dichloromethane extract. Conclusion: It may be concluded thatC. album Linn could be a source of therapeutic and natural scavenging agent.&lt;/p&gt;

Var. pendula (Annonaceae) are reported to have great medicinal value. The present investigation was therefore undertaken to determine the requisite pharmacognostic standards for evaluating the plant material. Pharmacognostic studies including examinations of macroscopic and microscopic characters, and powder analysis were determined on leaf of Polyalthia longifolia. The physiochemical properties such as loss on drying, total ash value, acid insoluble ash value, water soluble ash value, pH, boiling point, melting point and extractive values of leaf were carried out. The solubility of methanolic extract of leaves was carried out in various polar and nonpolar solvents. These studies provided crucial information for correct identification and standardization of this plant material.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Elaeocarpus sphaericus fruits have been used, as anticonvulsant and analgesic. It is also used in the treatment of epilepsy and hysteria. Elaeocarpus sphaericus fruits are used in treatment of head related troubles, epileptic fits, rheumatism, typhoid fever, dysentery and diarrhea. The present study will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification. Various standardization parameters like morphological characters, microscopic evaluation, physicochemical evaluations (loss on drying, ash values, extractive values), preliminary phytochemical screening and TLC chromatographic profile of the extract were carried out and the qualitative parameters were reported. These studies provide referential information for correct identification and standardization of this plant material.&lt;/p&gt;

 &lt;tr class="even"&gt;&lt;td class="biblio-row-title"&gt;Abstract&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td&gt;&lt;p&gt;Introduction: Research studies on Chlorophytum conducted in India and elsewhere indicate that saponins are responsible for medicinal properties. Thus, this study was undertaken in order to setup optimum parameters for the effective extraction of saponins from Chlorophytum borivilianum tubers.Methods: Particle size of the material for extraction; the effect of time, temperature, choice of solvent on extraction were studied. The effect of different drying techniques was also studied.Result: It was observed that mesh size 30/60, at 60°C for 4 h using either water or methanol as solvent was giving appreciable good yield of saponins in the extractConclusion: The extraction is best accomplished at a temperature of 60ºC for four hours. The extract so obtained can be dried using either of the techniques, depending on the type of formulation required to be made out of the extract.&lt;/p&gt;
