SEC. 3. PAID SICK LEAVE REQUIREMENT.

(a) In General- An employer who directs an employee to leave work or not to come in to work because the employer believes the employee has symptoms of a contagious illness, or has been in close contact with an individual who has symptoms of a contagious illness, shall provide paid sick leave to the employee for each workday (or portion thereof) the employee complies with such direction, up to a maximum of 5 workdays per 12-month period.

(b) Employee Compliance With Employer Direction- An employee shall be considered to be in compliance with an employer’s direction to leave work or not come in to work if the employee leaves work or does not come in to work when the employer instructs or advises the employee to do so because the employer believes that the employee–

(1) has symptoms of a contagious illness; or

(2) has been in close contact with an individual who has symptoms of a contagious illness.

Large business typically already provide paid sick time.  This law is a dagger into the heart of small business.  Period.

I thought this administration was all about “the little guy”?

Here’s a novel idea:  Maybe they should leave the business decisions to the business owners, eh?  Most of these congress creeps have never worked a real job in their lives let alone run a for-profit business, yet they believe that they have the knowledge necessary to make major business decisions for people who’ve been working their tails off their entire lives doing just that.

Where does this arrogance come from???

Robert Gibbs, commenting on today’s protests in Washington against the Democrat’s health care reform plan:

How can he just blatantly lie like that and get away with it?  Leftists, if you’re out there reading this, please explain to me how the President’s press secretary can communicate something so patently false to the people of this nation and still maintain any semblance of credibility?  Obviously, he and his boss don’t believe they can win this argument on merit, so they’ve instead resorted to out-and-out lies–which the media reports without questioning.  What other reason could there be?

There have been alternative solutions a-freakin-plenty coming from Republicans, Libertarians, and conservative organizations in general.  I’ve listed several of them on this blog…over and over and over again.  Unfortunately, those alternatives do nothing to expand the voting base of the Democrat Party, so there’s not a chance in hell of any alternatives being passed.

The bigger issue, here, is that the Democrats and the Obama Administration believe so strongly in their agenda that they will spout out-and-out lies, and use ‘ends justifying means’ scenarios which include suppressing the real arguments which must happen in order to turn out the best possible piece of legislation–for all people.  They’re so concerned with staying in power, and so sure of their higher intelligence (and the American people’s lack thereof), that they will use deceit to ram what they believe is best for us (or them) down our throats.

It’s insulting.

Kudos to the protesters, by the way, and to Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) for putting the tea party together.

Why, on Etsy, of course!

And what better place to poke fun at such utter crap than on Regretsy, a hilarious new site run by a bitingly sarcastic gal (not unlike myself, only with more foul language–which makes her a lot more fun, IMHO), who has decided that there’s just too much ridiculous handmade garbage for sale on Etsy to not create a website that’s entire purpose is to make fun of said ridiculous garbage.

My friend, Betsy (go figure…Betsy, Etsy, Regretsy…), introduced me to this site, and I subsequently spent over an hour going through the categories of real stuff for sale, laughing out loud, and at times, wincing.  You see, not only do some sellers on Etsy have downright horrible taste and questionable talent, but they’re also certifiable nutjobs…and perverted ones, at that.

Which brings me to the ever-present ‘warning’ to all of my conservative brothers and sisters–in particular, those who happen to be Scandinavian Lutherans from Minnesota:  There is some seriously messed up %@#$ on Regretsy.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

But go on ahead…browse through a menagerie of handmade goods (bads?) that leave you thinking, “Handmade?  It looks like you made it with your feet.”

Yes, that’s a baby chicken in a crocheted poncho.  I think we’ve just discovered our ticket out of this recession.

I could go on, but I think most of you get the point.  We SHOULD be cutting pay and benefits, but not for private sector companies that we shouldn’t have bailed out in the first place.

Until and unless our elected officials address the ever-increasing burden of these generous pay packages for government employees we will be sinking further into an economic sinkhole.  The only problem is that most of these same elected officials benefit from the same generous pay packages….

Yes, it’s true.  Swine Flu has hit the Pheisty house.  My daughter is all but confirmed, and I’m feelin’ icky, but it’s more like a head cold than anything.  So far, Hubby and our son are symptom-free.  I’ve been drinking colloidal silver and poppin’ Vitamin C’s (and forcing Hubby and son to do the same) ever since Little Missy came home from her dad’s with a fever on Sunday.  Let’s hope the home remedies keep it at bay.

I’m supposed to speak at a Tea Party in Rice Lake on Saturday, but we’ll see what transpires.

I must sheepishly admit that I underestimated this virus.  All of the media hype made me a scoffer, but after watching how ill my daughter became–and how long it has taken for her to start to feel better (5 days)–and hearing about how many kids have contracted this nasty thing, I must confess that I was wrong in thinking that this was all a bunch of hype.  It is a rotten, horrible virus.

So, say a prayer for the Pheisty family and all of the other families with H1N1 in their homes, if you would.

This is just simple economics, folks.  It’s just like the tax hike on those married couples making $250K per year.  You don’t think that those couples are going to find a way (by either taking a lesser-paying job, or simply by one spouse quitting their job) in order to stay under the $250K cap?

LEFTISTS, WAKE THE HELL UP.  Seriously.  Most of you are employed by the government, are trial lawyers, trust-fund brats, work for a non profit, are college students whose boomer parents are paying your way, or are unemployed.  Very few of you work for a private entity (or your own small business) that requires you to truly understand economics in a way that’s life-applicable and makes sense.

Yet here we are, with liberal bureaucrats–career politicians, attorneys and government employees who have never had to balance a P & L statement or make a payroll in their lives–making critical decisions that are affecting our economy while in its weakest state since the Great Depression.

Gosh, I feel better already.
