Here's a $13.6 million question: Why is Westchester County buying a vacant office building at 450 Saw Mill River Road in Ardsley?

They're going to store voting machines there, but it seems that a cheap circus tent could just easily do the trick. Well, I've written about this in my column and touched a couple of sore spots with the Spanoista regime when I pointed out that the owner of the building, Jon Halpern, happens to be a generous campaign donor to the county executive.

Anyway, we're going to talk about this deal today on my "High Noon" radio program. Our guest via telephone will be County Legislator Tom Abinanti, D-Greenburgh, who has opposed the sale.

It's time to call the vampire hunters. Hillary Clinton is the undead. She'll never quit this race.

Never.

And I hope she doesn't.

I"m having so much fun watching this insanity, that it would be a shame for her to drop out. Crazy Hil should take it all the way to the Democratic Party convention, and beyond. Yes, beyond!

If Obama should happen to win the presidential nomination, Hillary should show up to his inauguration and declare a Yogi-ism that it's not ever until it's over. And even if it is over, it's not really over until SHE SAY IT'S OVER, DAMMIT.

Then I hope Hillary starts stalking him with nutty pranks, like making phony phone calls to the White House at 3 a.m. That would be funny.

But seriously folks….

Here's the thing that gets me. After losing North Carolina and barely squeaking by in Indiana, Hillary not only seems determined to stick to a losing cause, she's starting to whine again. Now she says if the Democrats followed the same primary rules as the Republicans, she'd be the presumptive nominee by now.

Think about that. Then consider all this polling talk that something like half of her supporters won't vote for Obama if he becomes the nominee. Instead, they'll vote for John McCain.

Maybe Hillary Clinton should join the GOP next time. In fact, here's a strategy: She should switch parties and lobby to become McCain's running mate!

As it, she's spending all of her precious fortune to chase her Quixotic dream. The Clintons have $109 million and she's forked over about one-tenth of it to her campaign. That's like tithing, isn't it? Before you know it, she'll have to put the house in Chappaqua on the market to raise cash.

If you want to join the conversation on this and other items in the news, tune into my radio program, "High Noon," at 12 p.m. today. My guest will be Matt Davies, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for The Journal News.

That's 1460 AM, or log onto www.wvox.com. Calls will be taken at 914-636-0110.

After a one-week break, I'm back on the radio airwaves, today…that's a little more than an hour from now.

In the meantime, a program note about a future show. I'm trying to get Westchester County Board Chairman Bill Ryan to come on with so that he'll have a fair chance to speak directly to the people about county government and his controversial ques for a pay raise. I've already heard from Betsy DeSoye, Ryan's communication director, who sees the chances are good that he'll come on the air.

Scheduling this has been difficult, so the Ryan show won't be during my usual Thursday slot.

In any event, DeSoye said in an e-mail that "now that (Ryan) knows you're not
afraid to fight out of your weight class, you're on….One way or another,
whether it's your studio, MSG or the OK Corral, a meeting at high noon
is in both of your futures."

And one of them, Lila Kirton of White Plains, has had to suffer the humiliation of having her name and photo plastered in the pages of every newspaper in town. Her life as a married mother, must be a living hell right now. Chivalry and honor once were virtues. No more.

Second, Paterson's preemptive strike has officially made it OK for reporters to ask every candidate, who wishes to serve, whether or not they've had affairs in their lives. It's no one's business.

We will be talking about this and other political matters on the radio today at noon. Tune in to "High Noon," at 1460-AM or log on to wvox.com.

Calls will also be taken at 914-636-0110.

UPDATE: Here's the podcast:

That's what "High Noon" second banana Frank "Buddy" Waller III called Barack Obama on today's show on WVOX.

If you missed the entertainment, you can hear it on the blog archive. Waller's intemperate comment was made during a lively one-hour discussion about the latest round of Democratic primaries which saw Hillary Clinton best Obama in three out of four states.

I questioned Hillary's claim that she is the best candidate to be commander-in-chief. And then for laughs I did a riff on her infamous "3 AM" commercial in which she stars as the guardian of America's sleeping children. The only call Hillary has ever gotten at 3, I suggested, was from her husband looking for his pants at a Yonkers motel.

Buddy, who is a shameless Hillary lover, argued that her credentials for the job of U.S. maximum leader are beyond question. He pointed to her service on the Senate Armed Forces Committee as proof. Yes, he was serious.

Is it time to get a new sidekick?

UPDATE: Here's the podcast. Sorry for the delay.

Here's some topics I'm going to discuss…—Teen drinking and parental awareness in Westchester County.—The national economy, meaning the economic stimulus plan and the falling price in real estate.—The proposal to build a tunnel underneath the Long Island Sound. A hearing on that project is being held as I write.
And more, more, more—all packed inside about 40 minutes of hot radio.
Don't miss being a part of the action. Get the surf board and catch the airwaves.

Riverkeeper's Alex Matthiessen was my radio guest once again on "High Noon" for the full hour.

And of course, we talked about the Indian Point nuclear power plant and the effort by the facility's owner, Entergy Northeast, to secure an operating license renewal. The current license expires in 2013.

I asked Matthiessen to respond to a Dec. 19 piece written for the Washington Post by Max Schulz, a senior fellow for the Manhattan Institute. Entitled, A Nuclear Renaissance Ignored, the article asserts that nuclear power is on the upswing in the nation with 30 new nuclear reactors on the construction drawing board.

PODCAST: Here's a recording of the show:

Download:

Schulz writes that the nuke revival should be largely credited to liberal Democrats, who used to strongly oppose nuclear power but has softened on the issue in recent years. Indeed, he notes that the moderate Democratic Leadership Committee believes nuclear energy has tremendous potential to be an important part of the country's energy portfolio.

Among those he counts as having made "cautious statements" more less favorable to nuclear energy are Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd and Barack Obama.

The reason? Global warming has become a "signature issue" for the Democrats, Schulz says, adding that nuclear power right now is the only technology able to produce vast amounts of energy without creating greenhouse emissions.

Another reason is the lack (so far) of any viable replacement for nuclear power.

Schulz points out that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is a big exception to the Democratic change of heart. He's called for the closing of Indian Point because of all the usual reasons proffered—not the least of which is that it is a prime target for terrorists and that any evacuation plan for such a densely populated area is unworkable.

But Schulz also says that Spitzer is in "a bind."

He writes:
"It is one thing to espouse a general opposition to nuclear power—as many Democrats still do—but quite another to oppose an existing nuclear plant while bearng some responsibility for providing credible replacements to make up for the lost power."

Matthiessen responded to the article and replied to other questions during the course of the show. If you missed it, the entire broadcast will soon be archived on this blog.
