<p style="text-align: left;">A long-term marketing project developed for Checkers Drive-In Restaurants during my time as a graphic designer with the in-house marketing department.<span id="more-649"></span> <img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-651" title="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - vehicle wraps" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/vehicle_wrap.jpg" alt="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - vehicle wraps" width="100%" height="nan" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">When I joined the team, the company was developing a new product: chicken wings. Traditionally a hamburger QSR, Checkers wanted to expand their line of authentic, indulgent &#8216;big flavor&#8217; items and found bone-in wings to be a very viable outlet. For the initial push, the company originally planned to have a &#8216;Classic Wings Tour&#8217; travel through a number of locations, cooking and handing out fresh, free Classic Wings.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-kitchen_concepts.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="size-full wp-image-653 aligncenter" title="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - kitchen wrap concepts" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-kitchen_thumbs.jpg" alt="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - kitchen wrap concepts" width="100%" height="nan" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-650" title="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - mobile kitchen wrap mockup" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/trailer_wrap-mockup.jpg" alt="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - mobile kitchen wrap mockup" width="100%" height="nan" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">We began by brainstorming broad marketing concepts as a team, then developed design concepts for the vehicle and mobile kitchen wrap (<a title="Classic Wings Kitchen Wrap Concepts" href="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-kitchen_concepts.jpg" target="_blank">click here</a> or the image above to see more kitchen wrap sketches). I focused on the &#8216;five kickin&#8217; flavors&#8217; and an idea initially put forward by my co-designer — a perversion of Chic-fil-A&#8217;s &#8216;Eat More Chicken&#8217; campaign. We also developed t-shirts for the Wing Tour crew (<a title="Classic Wings Tour Shirts" href="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-shirts.jpg" target="_blank">click here</a> or the image below to see shirt concepts).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-shirts.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-654" title="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - tour shirt concept thumbs" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wing_tour-shirts_thumbs.jpg" alt="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - tour shirt concept thumbs" width="100%" height="nan" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">One of the main concepts that developed from this process was the Anonymous Chicken, Checkers Classic Wings&#8217; mascot. I had the opportunity to and develop and illustrate the character from scratch, and I was also able to write much of the copy that went along with the Classic Wings marketing, especially when the Anonymous Chicken was involved.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-657" title="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - Anonymous Chicken" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wings-anonymous_chicken.jpg" alt="Checkers Classic Wings Marketing - Anonymous Chicken" width="100%" height="nan" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Since his creation, the Anonymous Chicken has been utilized consistently from 2008 – 2012 on shirts, packaging, vehicle graphics and marketing at Tropicana Field. In 2009, the Anonymous Chicken Posse was introduced, expanding possible usage for the mascot.</p>

<p>A website for a Bay-area not-for-profit built for WordPress.<span id="more-639"></span> The <a title="West Tampa Center for the Arts" href="http://wtca-art.org" target="_blank">West Tampa Center for the Arts</a> is one of the more active gallery spaces in Tampa. Located in one of the many historic cigar factories, the WTCA houses rental studios and hosts a wide variety of exhibitions — including many of the semi-annual BFA exhibitions by students graduating from USF.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-640" title="WTCA – site and re-brand - logo" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/logo.jpg" alt="WTCA – site and re-brand - logo" width="100%" height="nan" /></p>
<p>The organization was lacking a cohesive identity, so my goal was to borrow elements from the old (the brick pattern) and combine it with a cleaner interpretation of cigar packaging. The website was also lacking structure and consistency.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-642" title="WTCA – site and re-brand - home" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wtca-home.jpg" alt="WTCA – site and re-brand - home" width="75%" height="nan" /></p>
<p>The WTCA wanted something that could be kept up-to-date easily, and so the site was built around the ease-of-use afforded by WordPress and Picasa for managing content and photography, respectively. <a title="West Tampa Center for the Arts" href="http://wtca-art.org" target="_blank">The site is currently live.</a></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Posters for fake films, created for GRA 3735: Intro to Multimedia Systems.<span id="more-600"></span> These film posters are a continuation of the assignment outlined in the <a title="Student Work: Visual Research Collages" href="http://philrules.com/2011/student-work-visual-research-collages/" target="_blank">Visual Research Collages</a>: at the beginning of the semester, students were asked to find a hand-held object that evokes an action and (hopefully) some sort of personal response. Over the course of the semester, we have explored a range of methods for creating iconic and expressive visual representations of the chosen objects.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Stephanie Clark — Spray Bottle</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em></em><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-605" title="'Object' Film Poster — Stephanie Clark - spray bottle" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/stephanie_clark-spray_bottle.jpg" alt="'Object' Film Poster — Stephanie Clark - spray bottle" width="70%" height="NaN" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">As part of their final challenge, students were asked to write a synopsis for a made-up film which would feature their chosen object. They then had to develop a poster which conveyed the themes/concepts of the film, somehow integrating a representation of their object somewhere within the composition while including necessary content including billing, the film&#8217;s title, the release date and stars.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Ryan Nguyen — Alarm Clock</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em></em><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-603" title="'Object' Film Poster — Ryan Nguyen - alarm clock" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/ryan_nguyen-alarm_clock.jpg" alt="'Object' Film Poster — Ryan Nguyen - alarm clock" width="70%" height="NaN" /></p>

<p>An identity system designed for the University of South Florida’s graphic design program during ART 4925: Media Workshop: Production.<span id="more-589"></span></p>
<p>Students were given the task of re-branding the design program, focusing on branding as more than just a logo and set of rules. Each student drafted mission/value statements, defined program goals and audiences, and developed a voice for the program. Required elements included an identity manual, program catalog, business card, poster, takeaway and a informational handout that was limited to being photocopied. This identity system was designed by <a title="Caitlin Burns's Online Portfolio" href="http://caitlin-burns.com" target="_blank">Caitlin Burns</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">A portfolio website designed and coded for the introductory web-design course, ART 4634: Visual Design for the Internet.<span id="more-579"></span> Students were asked to split into pairs, then create hand-coded portfolio websites for their partners. This forced the students to not only demonstrate web design/coding knowledge, but also the ability to craft solutions based on their client’s personal style and voice. This site was designed for James by Andrew Haan. <p style="text-align: left;">A series of illustrations for the performance piece <em>Complete with Illustrated Manual</em> by <a title="Ellen Mueller - Complete with Illustrated Manual" href="http://ellenmueller.com/pages/gallery/pages/09cwim.htm" target="_blank">Ellen Mueller</a>.<span id="more-546"></span> The performance centered on Valerie Hartman, an individual who had developed — and was in the process of marketing — her own time travelling device, The System. I was commissioned to do a series of faux-ISOTYPES/infographics used to enhance the many rules and words of caution associated with time travelling.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-550" title="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Concussion" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cwim-concussion.png" alt="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Concussion" width="100%" height="NaN" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Although the illustrations were visually based on typical warning signs and obscure, IKEA instruction manuals, the goal of the imagery was to be absurd, entertaining and, in many cases, ambiguous.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-551" title="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Console" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cwim-console.png" alt="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Console" width="100%" height="NaN" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">My love of clean, technical illustration leant itself nicely to the overall concept, and each illustration posed engaging challenges in readability vs. legibility and technical execution.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-553" title="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Ruler Set" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cwim-ruler_set.png" alt="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Ruler Set" width="100%" height="NaN" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-554" title="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Solitary" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cwim-solitary.png" alt="Illustrations for Complete with Illustrated Manual - Solitary" width="100%" height="NaN" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Below is a larger image with the rest of the illustrations from the project. Clicking on it will open the image in a new window.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">A personal website for Christopher Zenner, an actor/singer/songwriter based in New York.<span id="more-534"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Mr. Zenner wanted a website that could be easily updated with content, and — being an artist himself — he also had a very good idea as to how the site should look. I worked closely with him to develop the visual elements of the site (color scheme, layout, imagery, etc.) then translated his vision into a custom WordPress theme.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-541" title="Website for Actor/Singer Christopher Zenner - home" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/zenner-website-041.jpg" alt="Website for Actor/Singer Christopher Zenner - home" width="100%" height="NaN" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Working with WordPress allows for content to be easily managed by individuals without knowledge of HTML / CSS. Plug-ins were added to include audio, a contact form and Picasa integration. All content — photographs, audio and text — were supplied by Mr. Zenner for this project, and response has been overwhelmingly positive.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-539" title="Website for Actor/Singer Christopher Zenner - thumbnails" src="http://philrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/zenner-website-thumbs.jpg" alt="Website for Actor/Singer Christopher Zenner - thumbnails" width="100%" height="NaN" /></p>
