North House South is open in both directions and makes it possible to see each part of the site from the opposite side. Located in the McLaren Vale, Michael Edward Harvey collaborated with Chapman Herbert design Primo Estate, building for tasting wine facility in South Australia. This building site amongst eight hectares of cabernet sauvignon, Shiraz and merlot vines. This building consists of tasting rooms, offices, production areas and a home for a specially imported wood oven.

The main building is located on the southern side of the piazzetta and houses the tasting rooms and office areas. The pivoting timber door to this building is deliberately massive and tactile. The long northern wall of the courtyard is clad in tallowwood. Its depth houses a long, recessed niche which serves as seating for outdoor functions and spillover seating for the tasting areas on busy days.

The summer house built in 300 sqm area in the coast of Vestfold, Southern of Norway by Jarmund / Vigsnaes AS Architects MNAL. The architects re-decorating this house with replacing an older at the site with adds the terrain, both in terms of shape, scale, material and color. The house and terraces are partly built upon existing stone walls; the parts of the walls which are new are made of stones from the blasting at the site. The low elongated volume is cut into to allow for wind shielded outdoor areas, embraced by the house itself.

“…We present you a generous space, of almost 400 sqm , who resulted from uniting 2 apartments placed in mirror. The fusion-transformation , from which resulted a spectacular place , who lives from and through light , took place in less than a year thanks to the good communication and relationship with the owner. Starting from the wishes of the client, expressed very clearly: a spacious apartment , aerated ,luminous, simple and confortable, the designer team managed this challenge approaching the space at an un-usual scale.

The two initial spaces, each with all the functions (living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, bathrooms and technical space), but placed in mirror, are next to a park/ green space, so the architects took advantage of this, making the perception of the outside space to be dynamic, not fragmented visually. So, the new apartment relates very well with the outdoor through many windows, but also it can close it self enjoying the numerous lighting systems creating special atmospheres.

Regarding the functional distribution of the spaces, the architects came up with a simple solution: the day area placed in one apartment, and the night spaces in the other apartment, united by the fitness room. The spaces created are: master bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, shower bath, and secondary bathroom, living room, dinning room, kitchen, 2 guests bathroom, and a guest bedroom.All these spaces are united by the furniture design and the lighting. The large dimensions of the spaces permitted a ‘rescale’ , resulting a custom furniture project made by the architects. The furniture pieces are simple with ferm lines, square angles, but their scale and the way they interact with the generous space makes them very elegant and majesticly. The most spectacular piece of furniture has to be the bed, a floating slab, a purple spot in a big white space that has as a benchmark the big plasma tv and the bonsai…..”

This is the project Single Family Residence in Tucson, Arizona and estimated completion at 2010. This house design by DUST design build team consists of Jesus Robles, Dale Rush and Cade Hayes. Divided into four zones, the living spaces, the sky terrace, the sleeping spaces and the guestroom, the home is both visually connected and physically divided by a rammed earth wall. It serves as a fully functional music recording studio with specially constructed resiliently framed walls and special sound deadening mechanical ductwork a thoughtful site strategy situates the home on the site between two existing rock outcroppings.

The design incorporates passive solar design strategies as proper orientation reduces the solar heat gain dramatically. The linear design runs east to west, making the longest facades the north and south and the east and west facades the most narrow in width.

The supersized estate was built by late producer Aaron Spelling and his wife Candy Spelling back in 1991 although the land was purchased back in the '80s. It must be super fun to live in such a place as they've kept it so far, but since Candy is now living there by herself, she decided to put it out for sale.

Known as “The Manor” the French-style mega mansion is well maintained and gated featuring some cool and luxurious details such as a front court entrance with an imposing artesian fountain in the center of the entrance court, covered parking for multiple cars, swimming pool, tennis court, pathways that circle the home and lead to gorgeous gardens which promote relaxation.
Apparently, it took Candy 4 years to design the mansion and it's no surprise as it is just immense.

The interior dazzles from first glimpse as the Manor features elegant dual staircases, a doll museum room, a beauty parlor and barber shop, a bowling alley in the basement, a gift wrapping room (they must have been constantly giving away presents), a home gym, a wine cellar, a China room, a gorgeous office, a screening room which features an incredible supersized screen which rises from the floor, and many more as the house features 100+ rooms.

There are few words to describe the house, but elegant and lavishing would be two words that pop into the mind at first glimpse. However, selling such a huge home is no easy business, as there aren't too many people who just happen to have that kind of sum. This is definitely a house one could only dream of, but we're just curious if it will sell.

Update! The property was sold to Formula One mogul Bernie Ecclestone's daughter, 22-year-old Petra Ecclestone for a mere $85 million.

Axelrod Design has designed a house located in Tel Aviv called eHouse. This house combines the Mediterranean minimalist design and livability. The house is defined by two axes; one running lengthwise through the main living space and one perpendicular from the main entrance to the staircase. The longitudinal axis is reflected in the roof plane with a long skylight that runs the entire length of the house. The transverse axis is punctuated with a dramatic front entrance of horizontal wooden slats and cantilevered canopy. Read the description after the images.

“….The design exhibits a masterful use of that most modern of materials, concrete. The core of the house, both conceptually and structurally, is several vertical and horizontal planes. Conceptually, the vertical planes define the axes of the house and the horizontal planes the spatial volume. Structurally, the concrete elements support every other architectural surface, predominantly glass and drywall.

The extensive use of glass allows that most Mediterranean element, sunlight, to permeate into every room. Whether, direct, indirect, or filtered, light fills this house. Many smaller glazed areas reveal hidden views of exterior garden. A large 46ft expanse of glass floods the main living/dining/kitchen area with daylight. The entire 46ft window system can even be rolled back to create one super room of indoor and outdoor space

The site is masterfully landscaped and includes several decks and a reflecting pool. Because the site is comprised of two standard lots, extensive outdoor space was available for these site amenities. The placement of fenestration within the house makes full use of the views to the outside and creates interior view corridors at every turn…”

With two floors above the threshold and one floor below, the internal distribution is perfectly stratified, the ground floor are common areas like the living room, dining room, kitchen / pantry, an office and a small toilette. First floor is occupied by the private housing. Basement works as service areas, garage, storage rooms, technical areas and a studio that receives light through a gap that communicates with the car access to garage.

Architectural Digest shows off an amazing mansion that is very 'spiritual' and that is a perfect match for Jada and Will.

The happy couple shares the wonderful home with their three children Willow, 10, Jaden, 13, and 18 year old Trey, Will Smith's son from a previous marriage. Designed by architect Stephen Samuelson, the house needed to have a very down to earth, natural feel, so Will and Jada had everything done by hand. They told the magazine that:

“For Will and me this home was always a spiritual endeavor. We’re very earthy, organic people. We wanted to create a family retreat, something made by hand and as natural as possible, something that ties back to the land. Everything needed to be done by hand. We wanted to feel the love and labor that went into every piece of this place.”

One of the most breath taking parts of the home is the opulent living room which boasts an incredible mountain view, a clear, no-wall view that just joins you with nature. Will's favorite spot and definitely another 'plus' for their home is the lake gazebo, which is all about meditating and being in contact with nature's best: water, grass, trees, plants and flowers.

Remodeling Hill House in Dalkey Village by De Blacam and Meagher Architects

De Blacam and Meagher Architects was remodel house on a hillside in Dalkey with magnificent views from Poolbeg to Bray Head. The very rigid floor plan militated against re-planning and as the house needed significant improvements we decided to remove it from the site. The new house was designed to maximize the qualities of the site and accommodation in the brief while retaining the single storey street frontage. Kitchen and dining are to the south with a loggia for shelter and privacy. To the rear a large living room and roof terrace look north towards Howth.Read the description from the architects after the images.

Description from the Architects.

“….The two main outcrops formed the loci for the positioning of the new dwelling. These outcrops are connected to the dwelling by bridges that allow direct access from the first floor and also screen the private gardens to the rear.

The thick granite walls to the ground floor wrap the accommodation in a protective wall. This wall is punctured at the entrance with a full height hardwood paneled lobby. The stone is continued internally with solid granite architraves and piers used on the ground floor. The solid doors fold back during the day to allow light into the entrance hallway thought the glazed screen doors behind.

The stone walls to the ground floor are contrasted at first floor level by a lighter rendered pavilion type structure. An early decision not to fully glaze the first floor and instead frame the views in each space is expressed through the recessed bays and structural piers visible on the elevation. A simple lead capping completes the first floor elevations.

At first floor level a dining hall / atrium forms the focal point of the floor and is top lit by a 9metre long openable stainless steel rooflight. Full height sliding screens throughout allow the spaces to be altered if required. The flooring throughout is Italian navona travertine and the staircase is a cantilevered solid marble staircase with a stainless steel balustrading.”

Brisbane based architects Arkhefield was design a modern house, originated as a response to the landscape, primarily the linearity of the vines and the layered nature of the topography on a North facing gently sloping site on a vineyard in the heart of the Granite Belt. The overhang was calculated to protect the glazing from the summer sun and admit some direct light in winter. To counter the heat load on the clearstory and to counter heat loss in winter, a twin wall system was employed. All roof water is collected in both the above ground SS tanks and larger underground tanks further down the hill. The slab adds thermal mass and the cellar is dug into the local stone to stabilize its temperature range.
