Oops! As you can see I am much bigger around the belly area now that I am days/weeks away from delivering. Still feeling well and actually getting decent sleep…that was until this morning. I woke up around 5:30am to use the bathroom as all pregnant ladies do throughout the night and saw I lost my plug. I won’t go into detail, but it’s just one more step toward labor. You’d think that being 2 1/2 centimeters and 60% effaced and now losing the plug, I’d be well on my way, but that just isn’t the case. I started having random cramping/contractions this morning, but as of 1pm haven’t had any since. Kind of a let down, but I know it will all happen soon enough. The hardest part is not comparing this experience with Corbin’s because they completely different.

Wow! That’s less then 2 weeks away. Corbin was 10 days early, so we’ll see what happens this time around. For no real reason I thought yesterday might be the day, but I was wrong. I think it was that fortune cookie that said “A pleasant surprise is in store for you” that messed with my head. Not like it was a same day delivery fortune cookie…I still have a newborn surprise in store for me…just don’t know exactly when. Ha!

I’m getting a little nervous about the birth part now, but I know I have a great support team at home and at church which makes all the difference. There are always what if’s that encompass my brain, however, (will I have stitches? will the baby blues be as bad as they were with Corbin? will I be in a lot of pain? how will Corbin react to the baby? will I conquer breastfeeding this time around?) even though I fully know none will be answered till baby #2 arrives, but you just can’t stop wondering. Wondering about the endless scenarios, the what if’s, and most of them are the worst case scenarios that I wish never popped into my head. Sometimes I just have to stop and pray for God to take those thoughts away because its not glorifying or productive. Thankfully in most cases, He does answer those specific prayers, and I can rest in knowing God has it all under control. He knows every hair on my babies head, He knows the number of our days, He knows my baby’s name even if I don’t yet…He knows! and that is good. Similar Posts:

These women bless me tremendously! Today they all rallied together to create a beautiful and memorable baby shower to celebrate the birth of my son to be. The best part, other than the fabulous array of food and conversation, was the time of prayer and the sweet devotional Jane put together for me. I love the thoughtfulness and serving hearts these women have. What a blessed day and what a blessed woman I am! Thank you God for bringing my family to Grace Church and for there being an abundance of mommies who can help guide the younger mommies. What an answer to prayer!

Late last night I was doing a random search on Craig’s List when I came across a twin boy bed that I loved. I showed Luke right away and we decided to send an email to inquire. The gal emailed us today saying it was still available and we went to check it out tonight. It is now in our living room. The bed was just too good to pass up. It even came with a mattress and box spring that’s only a year old. Love it! I can’t wait to rearrange the boys room! What I mean is…Luke will be doing all the furniture rearranging and I will do all the decorating. Fun, fun! We are also hoping this will help Corbin get excited about being a “big boy” and “big brother.” We don’t want him to feel rushed into the big bed, but in the mean time he can get used to it being in the room and when he’s ready we can start transitioning him. At 37 weeks pregnant I really wasn’t up for any major running around and was so blessed at how she took charge and handled most everything on her own. Did I mention that she’s an amazing and crafty woman? She is! She made homemade soaps that smelled like baby powder, wrapped and tagged them all. She also came up with appliquing fabric onto plain onesies as an activity. Everyone loved the project and Carmine is going to have adorable one of a kind onesies for her little girl. The food spread was also amazing! Everything was colorful, tasty, and fresh. Another great detail was the cake. Mrs. Keen made the cake and it turned out beautiful! I found the bird on Amazon.com and the colors matched great. I was also pleased to see that she received many of the practical items on her registry as well as some precious girl accessories and clothes. Maybe it’s the upcoming baby and my way I relax (did the same thing right before Corbin was born)…whatever it is, I’m getting things done and I like it. I’ve been doing a ton of sewing and just recently went on a scrapbook retreat in Julian and got a whopping 61 pages done. I am so proud of myself. My biggest goal was to finish Corbin’s first and second year so that when the baby comes I don’t have to fret about never going back and finishing them. I think I have 95% completed my goal. Yeah!

What prompted me to start sewing again? All the preggos, of course! I give the nursing covers as gifts or sell them for $25.00. They really are a great gift for moms who want to breastfeed. I also started my first baby quilt and tried my hand at receiving blankets. The fabric store had a ton of flannel on clearance, so I couldn’t pass it up. I knew I could do something with it. The blankets were a little more time consuming than I thought they’d be, but I was learning as I went along. They aren’t perfect by any means, but I think they turned out pretty darn good. Now the question is…who will get them??? I seriously know at least 10 pregnant ladies all due anywhere between April to June. I know…crazy!

Costco has some great recipes in their magazines and this one is so yummy! I made it for a dinner with friends and it was a hit. My husband loves bread pudding and this cake had a very similar texture. Let’s just say he LOVED it and wouldn’t mind me making it again.

Cake
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
3 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 1/4 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
2 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Carmel Glaze
4 teaspoons butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 325. Butter and flour a 9×13″ pan
2. To prepare the cake, beat both the sugars and oil in a mixing bowl until very well blended. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour, aking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; gradually add to egg mixture, mixing just until blended. Stir in apples, pecans and vanilla; pour into pan.
3. Bake for 50-75 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan while preparing the glaze.
4. To prepare the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in both sugars and salt; cook over medium-low heat for 2 minutes. Add cream and boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly
5. Poke holes in the cake with a skewer or toothpick. Pour on the glaze. Serve warm or at room temperature. Top with whipped cream or ice cream if desired. Makes 12 servings.

I am now 33 weeks pregnant and still feeling great. I am amazed at how much more relaxed I am about everything this time around. Having all my previous first time mom questions answered and experiencing it first hand with my first son has taken a lot of the surprises and doubt away. I really owe it to God. He has been so kind to calm this anxious heart of mine in this area. It can be so hard to trust that He has everything under control, but it is so freeing when we do.

Luke and I weren’t sure at first if we’d like the movie “Whip It”, but we totally did. It was an unexpected gem of a movie. There was a great mesh of characters and fun story line that made the movie work. I would highly recommend this movie.

Today I was looking through The San Diego Union Tribune and saw an article on Roller Derby. Looks like it’s making a come back here in San Diego County. Would be fun to watch one in person.

I only had one plan yesterday and that was to go to a baby shower at 2:30pm. How was I to know it was for me? Ha! Yep, I was fooled! Kimberly, Kathleen & Joy collaborated back in December at Corbin’s 2nd birthday party and decided it would be fun to throw me a surprise baby shower. The hard part was figuring out how they were going to get me there. It ended up that Ashley (a friend of Kimberly’s), who is also pregnant, was coming down this weekend, so Kimberly made up a story that she was going to throw her an early baby shower and wanted me to come and take pictures. I agreed, of course, because I knew Ashley and thought nothing of it. Silly me!

I arrived a few minutes late. Yes, I stopped and picked up my mocha ice blended at The Coffee Bean down the street. Come on, it was too convenient to not to. Anyway, I pulled in the parking lot and was surprised to only see two cars. I thought that it was strange that no one was there, but most people I know in San Diego are always late. Once I got out of the car I started grabbing my bags and Kimberly started walking toward me and we chatted for a second when I noticed that there was another parking lot filled with cars. I didn’t notice any in particular, but I was happy to see Ashley was going to blessed by lots of guests at her shower. So naive! When I walked in the door Ashley was standing alone to the left and that’s where I drew my attention until I heard a big “SURPRISE!” coming from a group to the right. I couldn’t see my face, but I can only imagine that I had a puzzled and confused look on my face. I couldn’t understand why my mom and friends were standing there and then someone said “surprise it’s really for you, not Ashley”. I’ve never had a surprise party before and am not the type to volunteer to be the center of attention, but after a few moments I snapped to and started really enjoying myself. The best part was who was there. I had my mom and cousin, old friends and new friends…it was really amazing to see everyone together in one room. I kept wondering how on earth did all these ladies keep this a secret. Usually someone slips, but I really had no clue. Good job ladies!

You know when people say “it’s all in the details”? Well, that’s what this shower was…all about the details. The food was all made by scratch by Kathleen’s husband, Luke and Joy made her yummy lumpia and potatoes. Jessica made the most adorable cake made out of fondant. This was her second time making a cake with fondant and it turned out amazing and tasted even better. The chocolate cupcakes were delectable too. Another great treat was instead of the traditional baby shower games, Kimberly, Rosie & Ashley brought all their scrapbooking stuff to make baby pages for baby #2. They turned out so good and I can’t wait to take pictures to make them complete. Everything was so special and well thought out. A girl couldn’t ask for anything more. I am so blessed to have these women in my life and thank God for them.

Papa, Luke and Corbin took an hour walk down in the canyon behind the house to check out the waterfall and creek. Usually it’s all dried up, but after all the rain we’ve had this past week, there is plenty of water flowing through the boulders and creek. Corbin kept referring to all the mud as “muck” from a book he likes us to read about a duck that gets stuck in the muck and all the animals help to get him out. They all had a great time. When they guys got back, I asked Corbin what they did and he said “walking, water and papa”. I added that dada went too and he nodded. I look forward to joining them on their next walk. We have been working on our numbers with Corbin and this particular day we were driving back from church and he started counting randomly on his own. Luke and I were both surprised and tried to get it on camera right away, but unfortunately he stopped by the time Luke had his phone ready and that’s why you can hear me counting with him rather than him counting solely on his own. Corbin stomped around the yard in his one size too big rain boots and extra warm coat. He had a great time walking around and exploring before the next rain. The best part of our outing was when he saw that the bird bath was full of water and picked up a stick so that he could splash. He didn’t even mind getting splashed by freezing water. Silly kid!

All moms need a night out with their friends. Not saying we don’t miss our kids or our husbands, but we need a break from time to time. Adult conversation is a plus even though most of the time we end up talking about our kids. We can’t help ourselves! Kids bring us great delight as well as frustration. Sharing stories help us know we are definitely not alone on this journey of motherhood. Friend time also give us a chance to laugh out loud or have that good cry we have held back.
