Garnering entries from across Britain, the Guardian Britain iS was open to photographers of all abilities and attempted to find images depicting Britain today. Over 1,700 pictures were submitted in various categories.

Tamron has announced another advance in their pursuit of high resolution images in the telephoto lens category with the development of a 70-300mm F/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens featuring image stabilization––VC (Vibration Compensation) and an ultrasonic auto-focus drive –– USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive). The SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) high-resolution DSLR telephoto zoom lens has been produced for the Nikon mount, with the development of compatible mounts for Canon and Sony to follow.

iPad available in US on April 3

Apple have announced that the revolutionary iPad will be available in the U.S. from Saturday, 3 April for Wi-Fi models and late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models.

All models of the iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April. From March 12, US customers can pre-order Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store.

Giotto's ‘Vitruvian’ tripod

Inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, the new tripod offers photographers a lightweight and compact tripod.

The new Giotto’s Vitruvian VGR tripod can also be used as a fully functioning monopod and ballhead too. The unit has been designed with “reverse technology” legs so that when collapsed they fold through 180 degrees to “surround” the tripod centre and head – folding down to a unit that measures only 40cm long.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Firmware update

24 and 25fps HD Movie recording added to the 5D Mark II with firmware update 2.0.3

Canon has pre-announced the release of a firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark II. Originally announced at the end of 2009, the update adds 24 and 25 frames per second (fps) video recording to the camera’s EOS Movie video function and will be available from the middle of March.
