Every wedding is filled with wonderful moments. When Kari and Tommy saw their wedding photos for the first time they couldn’t believe all of the wonderful moments that happened and were captured. I love that! I love capturing the beautiful moments that tell the unique story of the day. Kari and Tommy’s story was filled with wonderful laughter from every guest and bridal party member. It was also filled with the joy of two little girls. These laughing little girls were the first thing I heard when I arrived to photograph the wedding. Enjoy!

Candid Wedding Photos and a Conversation

The other day I was on the phone with a videographer who was telling me all about the new photography promos he had been working on. The conversation was taking place because he was trying to sell me on a new promo video. Honestly I like mine already and though some time has passed, I still like it. The one thing that I have been really focusing on this year is being narrow. Funny, huh to be narrow? The world is wide and though the photography world is a small part of that, it is a huge industry. Anywhere from Ashton selling Nikons to The Cannon L Lenses being sold to photographers that can’t shoot manual. It is huge, I am not insulting it. But I can buy a custom purse that is ultimately a camera bag for $500. Any woman out there knows that a $500 purse is a great amount for a stellar brand. I bought the brand… Sorry photography world. And because of the way it is made I cary my 5D M2 in it with the 50mm. Just to clarify: It was less than the $500 bag.

The market that is coming after photographers is impressive and what I am saying about being narrow is that as a photographer I have to focus on the things that will progress my business. Not everything that is shown to us is needed. Now is a time to “narrow” down and focus on what is needed. I have goals, and a new promo video… isn’t something we need. But the conversation was fun. There were several things said that I agreed with, that I thought were funny, and that I really didn’t agree with. But hey we are all open to our opinions. One thing the videographer talked to me about was how tense and uptight photographers are, how they take their job “Too seriously”. The easiest way to describe this is that they are no fun. The photographers stress out, get mad, order people around, take it so seriously that they are kinda mean. Happens a lot. Here is what you miss when a photographer gets “TOO” serious. The lack of Candid photos. No one wants to shoot a random goofy smile at photographer having a bad day. I’m not saying that we all don’t have bad days, but you should enjoy your job. Some weddings are more stressful than others, some couples are easier to work for, but that shouldn’t change the fact that if you are good at something it shouldn’t look as hard as it is. It should never interfere with a wedding. We both agreed on the fact that photographers have to be good photographers and that the best are fun! Here are some of my favorite candid photos. Enjoy!

A Close-Up on couples

Engagement Environmentals

Engagement sessions are all about the couple, it’s true. It’s about who they are, their relationship, where they are going. While close-ups and mid body shots really pull the focus onto the couple, there is nothing like an environmental shot to set the scene. Close ups are great, and can be very moving, but I have to be honest in saying I am a sucker for a great environmental and it just so happens Erin rocks at finding just the right location, pose, and angle to pull them off with a bang!
