In this tutorial, Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios demonstrates the process of COLORIZING a black and white photo. Mentioned in this tutorial, adding color is easier than the color selection process. First from the process, he converted the photo to a CMYK image to have more control on color adjustments. To specify which part of the photo color should apply, he used Quick Selection Tool and saved the channels. He Refined Edges in black and white mode and increased the Smart Radius to manage crooked edges. He started to ADD and MIX COLORS under Curves Adjustment Layer. This is the feature where curves in the color selections can be perfectly mixed to achieve the color desired. After coloring the image, he added adjustments in Hue and Saturation to make the picture look at its best.

Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios shows in this tutorial how to create a BLUR EFFECT on an image similar in the “Awake” movie poster. Before he explains the process of blurring an image, Howard covered the area of changing the background to a Diagonal Gradient. He extracted the model from its background by using the Quick selection tool to select an object and refined its edges. A new layer was added to make a work path for the Gradient background plus an added texture using Filter menu.
For the purpose of Blurring effect, the subject’s layer should be selected. Quick Mass mode was selected to protect non-blur areas before using Soft Brush to cover the said areas. After brushing, Quick Mass mode was deactivated and the effect will apply in the non-selected areas. Before adding a filter/effect, it is good to convert the layer to Smart Filters to be able to re-edit if needed. He used the Motion Blur to create the Blur effect and added a duplicate layer to add a noise filter for final effect.

In this tutorial, Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios demonstrates how to PUT A FACE ON A DIFFERENT BODY and match the colors and tones to make it look realistic. He explained that the new face should match the angle of the original, if not, face should be rotated correctly. To match the alignment of both faces, he dragged the face on top of the original image, reduced the Opacity up to 50% and increased it back to 100% once both are lined up accurately. Layer Mask was added on the top image and removed the areas not needed. He then used Color Balance Adjustment Layer to match the tones and shadow of the original face. For final touches, he used Soft Brush to blend images together and used Burn and Dodge tool to enhance life for the image.

This tutorial by Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios shows how to create a SUN GLASS EFFECT with a different image. Howard demonstrated steps in adding a beach scene reflection on top of the Sun glasses. Since the focus is the eye ware, he selected the sun glasses using Quick Selection tool and added a new layer mask to limit the changes in the selected area. Howard always suggests making a new layer mask for every channels of selection to have the opportunity of re-editing. He dragged the new image on top of the original and created Clipping Mass to fit the new image in the sunglasses’ selection. To make the raw image look reflective he played with adjusting the Blend Modes and Opacity and added additional Adjustment Layers to heighten effects. He also mentioned in this tutorial, aside from mixing brightness and contrast, Hard Light, Linear Light, Linear dodge or Color dodges are effects you can play with according to your desired look.

In this tutorial, Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios explains how to BURN and DODGE photos non-destructively. He demonstrates the difference of “burn tool” (darkens areas), the “dodge tool” (lightens areas) and which tones it affects. To make a non-destructive layer, he started to create a new layer, filled the document with 50% gray, changed the blend mode to overlay and made his dodging and burning. Howard emphasizes that creating a non-destructive layer adds up a new layer FOR RE-EDITING and retains the original layer even after saving your work.

In this video, Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios shows how to make a spooky pumpkin effect by creating an image of a pumpkin with a human face on it. Howard starts by dragging an image of a child’s face onto a photo of a pumpkin, decreasing the opacity of the top layer to easily position it. He then selects the mouth, adds a layer mask to hide everything outside the selection and uses the standard soft brush to remove everything but the lips and the teeth. Howard then proceeds to add a hue/saturation adjustment layer to make a color adjustment and repeats the process with the pumpkin’s eyes.

In this holiday-themed tutorial, Photoshop expert Howard Pinsky shows how to take an ordinary photograph and turn it into what he calls a winter wonderland. To get the desired effect, he uses a series of non-destructive techniques, including a selection method, a custom brush and different adjustment layers. Howard starts by duplicating the background layer and then proceeds to remove all the greens in the image using the Color Range feature. He then creates and modifies a custom brush and uses it to make snowflakes

In this tutorial, Howard Pinsky from IceflowStudios demonstrates an easy and short way to achieve an interweaving textured image effect using Photoshop CS6. He starts by creating and modifying a single weave that he will later choose from the Pattern picker. After saving the pattern, he chooses it and selects the Scripted Patterns feature to create an interweaving effect from the single weave he created. Howard then goes on to adjust the image by changing the blend mode and adding a level adjustment layer.
