When I first heard about a weight loss expert that said to go ahead and shirk workouts, there was a lot of eye-rolling and skepticism on my part. Weight loss for couch potatoes? Oh had Judd Apatow diversified his endeavors to now include both rom-coms and diet books? Then I found out that the woman, Susan B. Roberts, was a Ph.D. teaching nutrition and psychiatry at Tufts University, which quashed my Dr. Apatow theory faster than you can say “Knocked Up.”

Roberts recently wrote a book called The Instinct Diet that the medical community loves. Her approach has garnered her loads of brownie points from the people who have been treating people who love brownies too much professionally. So why has her book quickly become such a nutrition bible? Well, it’s the result of over two decades of research and hundreds of pounds lost by fatties who don’t even make a go at step aerobics.

Unlike most approaches to working towards a healthier weight, The Instinct Diet does not revolve around a single principle or technique. Roberts advocates addressing all five of factors that make us lard-asses: hunger, availability, calorie density, familiarity, and variety. If that seems like a lot to juggle, it’s actually not. Most of her techniques revolve around common sense.

For example, when you’re hungry, fill up mostly on low-calorie foods like vegetables. Make food less readily available, so that you’ll eat less; just buy less food. Combine the calorie-density delicious foods you love with less dense stuff by doing things like starting your meal with a salad before eating heavy foods and then ending your meal with more healthy foods. Get yourself used to eating healthy foods by forcing yourself to eat them. Keep a variety of healthy foods stocked and fewer kinds of unhealthy foods so you won’t have as many ways to make yourself fat.

One of the keys to Roberts’ plan is eating more fibrous foods like vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, and whole grains, while also making sure to get in lean protein like eggs, chicken, and fish. Most importantly, never eat your favorite fatty foods by themselves. Eat them with some healthy, fiber-rich foods, so you can’t eat as much. There’s only so much room in your stomach, so don’t make it full of the materials of thunder thighs; make it mostly full of stuff that’ll keep you svelte and enjoy a smaller portion of the fattening stuff you love so much.

The Instinct Diet certainly isn’t going to make lights go off or exclamations of “Eureka!” hail from your scale, but it does make sense and seem to work. And anything that shaves off time at the gym while also shaving off the pounds is okay by me.

I always correct someone when they say, “I like your man bag.”

Quickly, and without apprehension I say, “It is not a man bag, it is a messenger bag.”

Needless to say, it is technically a bag - not a purse or pocketbook.

The man bag as it has begun to be known, is the ultimate men’s accessory - and if you think you are not man enough to carry one around, guess again.

Think about it if you will, as a gym bag that you carry around with you everywhere.

As someone who was born into the backpack journalist generation, my work requires me to carry my office around with me. This would be incredibly difficult without my handy dandy man bag.

Not to mention, they are stylish as hell.

The best part, designers are beginning to incorporate the man bag into their arsenal of accessories for men - realizing that the man bag has become an essential wardrobe piece to the stylish man.

And as pop culture continues to flourish, and more shows, movies and music is being produced by, for and about the stylish male - more fashion forward men are coming to the forefront.

Furthermore, just like the word stylish doesn’t have to be synonymous with gay, neither does the man bag.

How did the man bag evolve?

Here’s my theory. I think they have been around since togas - but I won’t take you that far back.

Instead, I will start with the book bag. Men have always had some form of a man bag.

In grade school, middle school and in some cases, high school boys were militant about their respective book bags. It had to be blue, it had to be big and it had to have a superhero on it - preferably Wolverine.

And if it didn’t, we were not happy campers.

In high school when some of us would carry our girlfriend’s books, that extra space in our book bags helped free up our hands for groping.

Then in college, the book bag made its final appearance.

After college, it was no longer called the book bag because if seen wearing one, textbooks would probably not be in the bag.

What happened next?

The transition into a professional lifestyle - the suitcase.

Ever elusive - the suitcase is a great accessory for the man on the go, but it is not as versatile as the messenger or man bag if you will.

The suitcase almost sounds like a welcome alternative, but then what happens on the weekends, or casual Fridays?

Here comes the man bag to the rescue.

Aside from it being a versatile accessory, the man bag, if worn correctly can add masculinity and sensitivity to an outfit. They can be worn on dates, interviews and nights out on the town.

Perhaps the most convenient thing about shopping for man bags is that they can generally be picked up anywhere.

Because designers recognize the trend, they had incorporated man bags into their store and boutique inventory - this makes getting one the easiest.

Right now, my favorite man bag is the all-black Ben Sherman Wet-Look Messenger. It’s black, sleek and fashionable. Because black is such a versatile color, the bag can be dressed up, or dressed down.

Other great places to look for messengers are: Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom’s.

Almost every label seems to have jumped on the man bag bandwagon. I’ve been hearing a lot about the Air Jordan Messenger. Just like the iconic sneaker, the bag is made for optimal endurance and style.

Too many different people have decided that the man bag is a necessary fashion piece for any guy’s wardrobe. That means that there are different kinds of man bags for everyone.

And hey, if it’s good enough for Indiana Jones - it is good enough for me.

Yes, this kind of gallery is the epitome of Link Bait - there’s really no chance we’d ever link to a website named “MomLogic” otherwise - but it’s necessary viewing for all Simpsons fans. In other words, necessary viewing for everyone, ever.

In short, some industrious soul went through your favorite characters from The Simpsons, made choices as to who should be cast in the roles, and put together a few decent Photoshop jobs showing how they’d look after a few hours in the makeup chair. The actual photos are decent enough - a few are actually kind of creepy, these people will yellow skin and strange haircuts - but the choices are so spot on you can only wonder in your head how great a live-action Simpsons movie would be with this dream cast in place. The first few ones are kind of cute, but the choice for Moe is the one that won me over completely:

Steve Buscemi as the bitter, lonely bartender Moe? Perfect.

Scroll through the rest of the gallery to some more inspired choices - I’m particularly fond of their Otto - but do feel free to voice your dissent or better choices in the comments below. The point is, let’s get this movie off the ground people.

I got a last minute email from one of the guys in the Austin Society, a local pick up group, saying that a speaker had canceled and they were looking for someone to fill in. Awesome. I love public speaking and have actually been meaning to do more of it (in fact, I’m thinking about giving talks in every city I hit when I start my RV trip).

There are pick up groups pretty much everywhere now. They’re great because they can provide a good support and accountability system, but they there’s a certain rut that they can push members into. Often times you’ll see members totally overwhelmed with ideas, tactics, and styles, that actually get in the way of real progress.

So I decided to take it back to the basics and talk about the fundamental things a student of pickup should focus on. The topics I covered are focus, storytelling, being yourself, and your comfort zone.

I videotaped the talk so that I could post it for you. The sound is pretty low and it’s dark by the end, but I think the video should be valuable for any budding pickup artist. I also have ten minutes of question and answers but didn’t post them because the video was totally black by then.

Because of Youtube’s rules, it’s cut into three parts:

A huge part of a man’s attractiveness comes from his ability to lead.

Will Smith is one of the most respected and loved actors in the entertainment business, and a true leader in his field. The reason why he is so successful is because he has the most important traits that that all great leaders have.

In this article, I’ll talk about three of these most important traits. Let’s get to it.

1. Being a Great Decision Maker

The first and most important trait of a great leader is a high level of decision making skill.

Destiny is not a matter of chance. It’s a matter of choice. Or in other words, our reality is simply a result of the decisions we have made.

“….Just DECIDE, what it’s going to be, who you’re going to be, and how you’re going to do it, just DECIDE, and then from that point, the universe is going to get out of your way, it’s like water…” - Will Smith

Are you someone that is good at making decisions throughout your day? Or do you keep delaying things that need to be settled, worked out, or acted upon?

I see more and more men who settle to just flow with the crowd without taking the time to decide what they want, wondering why they are unhappy most of the time. And when it comes down to making some decisions, they are busier thinking up excuses why they can’t do something, instead of trying to figure out how they can do it.

The man who isn’t constantly making important decisions in his life has no vision, and with no vision there aren’t strong goals, and without goals, there is no progress — only mediocrity at best.

When it comes to making an important decision, you should have no hesitation to get out a piece of paper and a pen, sit down with a cup of coffee, and spend however long it takes to work it out. It should be second nature.

When a man can lead himself in his personal goals, he can be an attractive leader in social situations and in business. When friends don’t know what to do or where to go, a leading man steps up and is the first to suggest something. At work, when everyone is waiting for orders from the boss, he thinks about the company’s most important objectives and takes the necessary steps to get everyone moving.

He shapes his reality by deciding what, why, and how things are going to happen.

“But what if you make the wrong choice or decision?”

Too many people are on the fence for way too long because they are afraid of making a bad decision. But the biggest mistake is always trying so hard not to make any.

It’s important to do as much of your homework before making an important decision, but it’s even more important to just launch and get things moving. Too many people get stuck trying to make sure everything is perfect before they take the first step. And people who never take the first step, never takes the second; getting no where near what they want.

Recently, I learned that a perfectly straight line does not exist in nature. Even if you put a straight line under a microscope, there are jagged edges that go in different directions. It’s only when you zoom out that it looks straight. Just like in nature, a straight line towards our desired destination does not exist either.

For example, when a pilot is flying a plane towards a destination, they never go in a straight line. They are constantly zigzagging onto and off the best course. The most successful leaders make the best choices they can with the information available to them, they LAUNCH AND GET GOING, and appropriately adjust their course as they go.

Is there any situation in your life right now that needs a decision? What have been holding off?

Today, try making all the necessary decisions you can before the day ends. Don’t leave anything to chance or delay any longer. Not only will you realize how many decisions you may be procrastinating on, but you’ll realize how much power is contained in a moment of choice.

2. Taking Full Responsibility

The second greatest trait a successful leader has is being able to take full responsibility for his choices.

A great leader always thinks about what the situation needs, not just his own selfish needs.

Many times our choices not only affect ourselves, but the people around us. When that’s the case we can’t wait for everyone to agree before we act. The best way to create results in this situation is to take full responsibility for whatever happens - especially if it involves lots of risk.

It’s hard to find great leaders today because nobody ever wants to be the one to blame if something goes wrong. The way we were raised by our parents and in school conditioned us to fear making mistakes and being rejected.

During stormy times, you have to be willing to steer the ship when nobody else wants to, or else you all might die.

So many necessary things that need to get done in our homes, businesses, and the world we live in aren’t getting done because people aren’t willing to step up to the plate.

It’s in our nature to want to feel safe and secure, but the only real security exists our ability to take action. One of the reasons why we’re the greatest species on earth is that we have no limit to what we can achieve. No matter what happens to us, we can do something to improve the situation.

It’s mostly the fear of failure that stops us in our track, but all of the most successful people I know have an unending list of “failures” under their belt. They wouldn’t be where they are, living their dream, if it wasn’t for all the “mistakes” and “failures” that happened along the way.

A great leader isn’t afraid to fail or make mistakes. And they don’t take what other people think of them too seriously either. They never act like a victim like most people do, blaming others or some outside condition when they are met with resistance.

They have confidence in the fact that if anything goes wrong - no matter what it is - they can quickly take action to improve the situation. This belief is what enables them to take full responsibility for what needs to get done. They lead themselves into action, take the load on their shoulders, and people inevitably follow.

3. Relentless Action Following Decisions

A lot of men are good at making decisions, and some even take full responsibility for their choices, but most quit at the first few signs of resistance.

The leading man consistently takes actions towards his goals until he achieves them. He works and works, changing his approach when it’s not working, and works and works at it some more. He does whatever it takes to win.

“… if we get on a treadmill together, either you’re getting off first, or I’m going to DIE trying…” - Will Smith

Countless studies have found that the most successful people are quick to make decisions and slow if ever to change them, where unsuccessful people are always slow to make decisions and quick to change them.

This sounds so simple but just look around and you’ll see so many people making a decision to do something and than quickly change their minds. And not because they found a better route, but because they gave up when it started to get a little uncomfortable or hard.

When successful leaders make choices, they do not RELENT. They’ll do whatever it takes to reach their goals, to live up to their decision.

It’s important to maintain integrity with yourself, and take massive action towards your decisions. For example, if you make a decision to go to the gym three times a week, it’s so important to honor your decision. The more you keep your word to yourself, the more power you will gain. To the point where if you say you’re going to do something, not only do you have complete confidence that you’ll do it, but others will trust you as well. This is monumentally important to becoming a great leader.

The most successful and attractive men out there, are those who can make the hard decisions, take full responsibility for their choices, and take relentless action towards their goals. They are respected in their line of work, are much more desirable by women, and loved by the people around them.

Every man has the choice to be a leading man. If you recognize that you need to work on one of these areas, quickly resolve to begin working on it today.

And don’t stop running. Stay relentless,

In my last LR I talked about the benefits of social circle game which I truly feel is the best way to go about things. However I wanted to cover the other end of the spectrum namely being SNL (same night lays). While there’s nothing wrong with it I’ve never been a huge fan for a few reasons. The quality of girls you get are usually not as good, there’s no real connection which makes the sex kind of meaningless (at least to me), and if this is what the majority of your game consists of you’ll need to go out hunting every night and busting your ass to make it happen no matter how good you get.

This night started with me doing a one on one with my student. While doing a bootcamp I always demo of course but never long enough or seriously enough to get a girl all the way into bed because it’d take to much time away from helping my student’s game. However once the bootcamp work is officially done it becomes another matter and then Psych can go to town. I decided to stay out with my student this night and just wing him to see what would happen. We go out to a popular lounge in the area where I meet up with a good friend of mine who’s actually an instructor for another company and specializes in SNL game. I figure “when in rome” and the hunt begins for which girl I’ll be taking home with me tonight.

Now the first thing to realize when it comes to SNL game is that it kind of takes a “PUA radar”. The thing is that not every girl, regardless of how good your game is, will be the kind to sleep with you that night. Even if she is often times logistics wont allow it. What this means is that you need a radar to quickly determine which girl seems like a SNL girl and then quickly figuring out logistics to see if they can be handled in set otherwise you waste your time. At first it didn’t seem like there were any real possibilities, it was a small bar lounge with only about 50 people and only half being women. However when the other guys began giving up it only motivated me more to make something happen. As I’m making my rounds I’m keeping an eye out for two things, somewhat buzzed and sexual. I see a large set with giggling girls who are slightly high energy, probably buzzed so one out of two is there. I go open the set and immediately one of the girls touches my chest and gets close to my face when talking to me…bingo on the sexuality.

Once you spot your SNL girl there’s a few things that always need to happen. The sexual tension must be built really high, strong frame control needs to take place, you MUST know exactly how to lead the set and handle all obstacles and logistics to get her to your place, and also have the ability to handle any shit/congruence tests she throws at you.

As soon as she touches my chest and gets close my hands go around her waist and I bring her in close to show dominance. I begin using AFC Adam’s formula of comfort and breaking rapport while keeping my nonverbals (such as eye contact) extremely sexual. What resulted was fluff talk with slight sexual innuendos to break rapport and physical take aways and turns. However my hands never left her side. I then began leading the pick up by isolating her to get a drink of water with me. This is what I call a visual isolation since the group can still see where you both are, from here I told her we should sit somewhere to drink since my feet hurt and brought her into full isolation away from the friends.

Once seated the qualification and sexual escalation begins. The kino is massively turned up with my arm wrapped around her while I stroke her leg and thigh qualifying her on topics that are either sexual in nature or lead to sexual frames (for example being fun and wild). From here I go for the kiss and get it and from experience I’m pretty sure that I can close as long as logistics can be handled. However it’s always around this point that the shit tests begin to come. With this particular set I handled the logistics by being completely unnreactive and extremely ballsy/confident with my sexuality. For example at one point the girl said “I think I’m going to have to go back with my friends tonight” which implies she IS thinking of a SNL so I respond “And I think that you’re going to have to come home with me so I can ravage that body of yours”. The shit tests comes again with “Hahahaha no I don’t think so…” which I reply “We’ll see…before this night is done I’m going to be fucking the shit out of you.” Her face was priceless here and she was literally speechless but eventually just settled for a disbelieving smile.

As the night progressed I’d amp up sexuality in more ways by grabbing her breasts, kissing her neck, and anything else that went with the moment. It became to much for her though and she went to the bathroom. While doing that I opened her group of friends and began winning them over so that when she came back she saw me in set with them. Not knowing what to do she eventually grabbed one of her girlfriends and went over to the bar. Eventually her other friends joined her and I was left chilling with my student. What then took place was a huge test…who would break first me or her? Often a massive hidden test that needs to be placed is the girl seeing that you have the ability to walk away and when this test is given it’s usually the last one. I remained with my student until finally the girls friend came over to tell me my girl wanted me to come over there. Many community guys I know would mess up here as well and refuse in order to stay “alpha” but the act of her sending her friend over already means I won…I just need to accept her invitation.

I go over and join her and flirt some more. She brings up the fact that she has to leave with her friends so I tell her that she’s an adult and can do whatever she’d like. I flat out refused to be needy or try and manipulate her into coming with me. I knew she wanted me and all I had to do was make sure I didn’t chase in the slightest, just keep her being aroused and let it be her choice what she wants to do. I saw the raging battle inside her head and figured she might need SOME plausible deniability to not feel like a slut. Because of this I suggested we instead just go get something to eat and her friends could even come to (if they don’t perfect and if they do I can always bounce her to my place after). Her friends weren’t hungry so this was a no go. Sometimes things don’t work out though and that’s when you need a plan B. I tell her that my friend’s place (the student’s) has an amazing view and she should come see which she agrees to along with her cousin. I pull up my car and take her, her cousin, and my student to the student’s apartment. Once we get in there sex is just implied. Everyone gets some water, I tell the girl “hey come check out my room”, and then throw her on the bed. I always tell people this but just like some PUAs assume attraction I assume sex. The clothes come off easily and she begins giving me head. From there I put on a condom and get on top of her to close the deal. I was told later that my student was talking to the cousin and heard the banging of the bed against the wall. When the cousin asked what it was he replied…must be construction work.
