I come bearing great news! Piclyf for iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) has just been updated in a BIG way. Out with the clunky in with the sexy. Here’s the list of features that are waiting for you in your gorgeous Apple device:

1. A sexy new profile page (you can Follow, See Stats, Look at Coverpic, see Faved pics, look at pics under 3 main categories, see Comments/Reactions)

   

   TIPS: Delete a pic by tap+holding them, Change your coverpic by tapping it, display bio by tapping the profile pic

2. A slicker Home feed (the 3 main categories – Life, Things and Interest are now unified, floating Snap and upload buttons, side menu for other sections of the app, color bars for notes [yellow], things [pink], people [blue])

The easiest way to photo blog your life. That’s our goal. One of the main component of that goal is to have a platform where your followers can easily keep track of your updates with minimal noise & great ease. With the original structure of putting every pic update in one stream, we found the stream all over the place in terms of topics. Mixed in with moments & life updates were LOLcats, pics about news and events, movie posters, etc. After analyzing it all, we found a great way to funnel all these cool pics into a cohesive manner – have 3 main categories!

Life – pictures or photos about life’s moments and updates. A night out with friends, a romantic date, a quiet moment, little snapshots of your everyday life – they all go here. This categories will be your visual diary or a journal of your life.

Things – these are pictures of things you possess, just bought, are selling, received as a gift, collections, artworks, and the likes. Think of it as a catalog of your items.

Interests – should contain pictures that you are interested in but mostly found elsewhere. This could be movie posters or scenes, funny pictures of cat, a job ad, photos of your favorite celebrity or band. This could also contain stuff you are promoting like a flyer or a banner. Interest pics have the unique ability to be reposted by anyone. This will re-use your pic but would automatically show your profile on subsequent repostings, giving you exposure to get more followers.

So there you go, you now have a diary (life) + a catalog (things) + a bookmark (interests) all in one place! Happy posting!

Here in PicLyf, one of our core goals is to increase the depth of details that is conveyed from a picture. The big default size of the pic, the notes, tags, the metadata and the way we auto organize your pics into one big timeline all serve that purpose. The main by-product of that is you will remember moments better but another by-product is there are much more to talk about.  And out of that comes the need to provide commentary on specific parts of the picture. Well, we made that delightfully easy with PinPoint! No more “what’s that thing to the upper right of that thing in the lower-left of the person to your right” type of queries cause you can now point to an area and have that attached to your comment. Other uses may be to use pinpoint as a punchline to a funny comment or even play Hidden Mickey! Go ahead and try it. Its such a groovy feature.

Emoticons are so 1990s, so we devised a way to bring a new level of expression that is utterly personal and potentially hysterical. Introducing Faces! (faceticons or emotifaces sounds & looks horrible) .

Faces are your actual face used in lieu of emoticons. Its used on the picpages where you can react to pictures easily and ,in the future, will also be used on the user page, comments, doodle and other top secret modules of the platform. Thanks in advance to Jehzlau for not being in mad when i used his faces as an example. What a swell guy!

The old doodle was a really really really barebones way to post an visual update (it only had a pen & eraser for chrissakes!). While we love that baby doodle for its simplicity, its time that we unleash the creativity of PicLyfers and present the real Doodle!

Armed with 12 brushes, brush color picker, brush size control and a background or paper canvas, the new Doodle will now let you do a lot more convincingly drawn updates about your day like the one above.

We had so much new stuff rolled out the past few months that a (long) series of blog post will be necessary to fully grasp the awesomeness of it all. Lets start with the most latest and obvious one – The Headline Pics! The very newest pic on your picfeed will now be large thumbnail to visually emphasize it. Your followers can now also react to it right from the dashboard. Now that’s handy! Soon the Newest pic will be joined by the Featured, Promoted and Random pic all sliding in & out inside the same block. For now, enjoy the Newest pic by its cool lonesome.
