The car features a system converting the grounds into flammable gases which fuel the engine instead of petrol.

Jem Stansfield build the vehicle in an effort to encourage young people to think about how we can tap into energy from waste products and new sources.

He said: ”Everyone recognises that coffee can give a person a bit of a boost, but many probably had no idea it had enough energy locked away to power a car.

”It’s important for kids to understand that power is not something that is mystically there, simply at the flick of a switch or by pushing a pedal.

”With the energy challenge that is facing the world, the more we encourage children to think about alternative fuels, where energy is stored and how it can be released, the better.”

I’ve never seen anything like this before. It happened during a high school basketball game between Rhinebeck and SS Seward. Did that guy really mean to slam the ball onto his opponent’s head for a shot? It’s almost as unbelievable as this throw:

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a village on the island of Anglesey in Wales. It is the longest recognized place name in the United Kingdom (58 letters), and with a population of just over 3,000, it’s definitely a mouthful for the people. Imagine having to write that on the back of a postcard.

With 45 letters to it’s name, Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is certainly a tongue twister. It’s a lake in the town of Webster, Massachusetts and is recognized as the longest place name in the United States. It’s also known as “Webster Lake”… Much easier.

#4 Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik

Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik lake holds the record for the longest place name in Canada. The lake is situated in Manitoba and Nunavut. In total it contains 31 letters, not including “lake”. It literally means “where the wild trout are caught by fishing with hooks”.

#5 Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya

With a mere 26 letters, Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya Hill completes our list of the top 5 longest place names in the world. It’s a hill in South Australia and it’s officially the longest geographical place name in the country. According to general belief, the name means “where the devil urinates” in the regional Pitjantjatjara language.

Also… A notable mention should also go to “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit“, which is the official name of Bangkok.

It translates as “The great city of angels, the supreme unconquerable land of the great immortal divinity (Indra), the royal capital of nine noble gems, the pleasant city with plenty of grand royal palaces and divine paradises for the reincarnated deity.”

Unfortunately, it’s got spaces in it though, so it couldn’t be put on the list above. Still difficult to say though.

Slim Helu is a telecoms tycoon who controls a number of companies, including Telmex and America Movil. His net worth is a staggering $53.5bn.

Meanwhile, American investor, Warren Buffett fell to third place with a net worth of $47bn, Indian businessman, Mukesh Ambani takes fourth with a net worth of $29bn, and Indian steel magnate, Lakshmi Mittal is close behind, with $28.7bn.

Bill Gates was knocked off the top spot for only a second time since 1995, despite gaining $13bn in the past year. I’m sure he won’t lose too much sleep over it.

Forbes’ 24th list of the world’s richest people sees the number of billionaires rise from 793 last year to 1,011 now. In 2008 the total was 1,125.

With 80% of Canadians watching the game, they all used water at the same time during different periods of the day. Who doesn’t go to the bathroom during the break anyway?

Becoming engaged is meant to one of the best days in a person’s life, but when something goes wrong with the proposal, it can end up being one of the worst. Here are the top 6 marriage proposals gone wrong.

#1 Man Dropped Ring On Brooklyn Bridge

What was meant to be an elaborate marriage proposal turned out to be a nightmare for one man and his partner.

Don Walling and his girlfriend, Gina Pellicani, had gone to dinner with family to celebrate his 29th birthday. Afterwards, they decided to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge where Don would propose.

With a relative filming the event, Don got down on one knee, took out the ring box and opened it, but to his horror the engagement ring fell out of the box and into the New York traffic below.

Don scaled the side of the bridge as motorists, thinking he was suicidal, begged him not to jump. Next, a suicide prevention van pulled up and police stopped the traffic.

When the ring was eventually found, the platinum band was damaged but all the stones were fine, luckily… Not really.

#2 Rejected in Front of a Sell-Out Basketball Stadium on National TV

(Youtube Link)

This guy had it all planned out. What better way than proposing to the one you love in front of a stadium full of people and a national television audience? How could she possible say no? Watch the video to see how it turned out.

#3 Engagement Ring Flies Away Inside Helium Balloon

Lefkos Hajji wanted to do something creative when he proposed to his girlfriend. The idea he came up with was to put the engagement ring inside a helium balloon, give it to his loved one and then pop the question, literally. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite turn out like that.

Lefkos asked a florist to place his $12,000 diamond engagement ring inside a helium balloon, but as he left the shop a gust of wind pulled it from his hand and it soared into the sky.

Despite chasing it for nearly two hours in his car, Lefkos eventually had to give up the pursuit and the ring or balloon were never seen again.

Needless to say, when Lefkos told his girlfriend, she went mad and refused to talk to him until he got her a new ring.

#4 Live TV Show Proposal is Painfully Awkward

(Youtube Link)

When this guy decided to propose on live television, he envisioned it to be the best day of his life, but it ended up being probably the worst. Check out the video to feel his pain and everyone else’s awkwardness.

#5 Woman Swallows Engagement Ring Hidden in Milkshake

Reed Harris did something different for his proposal, by hiding the ring in a Wendy’s Frosty milkshake and then giving it to his girlfriend.

However, as she ate the milkshake, girlfriend, Kaitlin Whipple, didn’t find anything and by the time she had finished there wasn’t a ring in the glass.

It turned out that Kaitlin had ate the ring without noticing. How could she possibly do this? Well, the other women that were with her made the mistake of challenging her to a milkshake eating race, eager to speed up the process of finding the ring. Unfortunately, Kaitlin grabbed a spoon and wolfed down the entire contents of the cup, including the ring!

#6 Valentines Day Public Hockey Match Rejection

(Youtube Link)

Proposing in public is a risky thing to do, because if she says ‘no’, then you’re going to be totally humiliated. What could possibly be worse than that? How about if it was on Valentines Day? Well, that’s what happened to this guy in New York. Ouch!

They say you can’t help what you fall in love with, but in the case of one Korean man, it’s more like ‘what’ you fall in love with.

Lee Jin-gyu fell in love with, and has just got married to, a pillow. It’s not any ordinary pillow though, it’s a “dakimakura” – a large pillow from Japan, which translates as “hugging pillow”. It’s similar to a body pillow as some may know it.

Lee, 28, dressed the pillow in a lavish wedding dress for the ceremony, which was held at a local church.

A friend said: “He is completely obsessed with this pillow and takes it everywhere. They go out to the park or the funfair where it will go on all the rides with him. Then when he goes out to eat he takes it with him and it gets its own seat and its own meal.”

I assume it was a mutual agreement to get married. Maybe Lee was worried dakimakura might leave him for another pillow. Each to their own, i guess.

How long can you hold your breath? Well, the average person can hold their breath for around 1 minute, however there is on man who defies human lung capacity, and that is David Merlini.

David Merlini, 31, is an escape artist from Budapest who has broken several World Records for holding his breath while underwater. For his latest World Record, Merlini held his breath for 21 minutes and 29 seconds underwater at the starting line of the Sakhir Circuit at the 2009 Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix.

So how can you hold your breath for longer? Well it all comes down to health and practice. A slower heart rate consumes less oxygen, a healthy body uses oxygen more efficiently and practice can increase your lung capacity. All of these combined can help increase how long you can hold your breath for, just in case you ever needed to do such a thing. I’m feeling breathless just writing about this.

Mexico City’s police department have put their officers on a diet after finding out that almost three-quarters of them are overweight.

On Sunday, a new three-meal-a-day menu was introduced which consists of healthy portions of vegetables, as well as being 500 calories less than the previous near 3,000 calorie daily serving.

However, authorities may find it hard to enforce the diet plan, with Mexican City cops famous for their bribes from motorists which often involve food or soda. Ay-ay-ay.

Do you find yourself getting lost in your own home? No? Me neither, but this compass table will make sure you never do. If you find you’ve got a load of spare compasses lying around the place, shove them all in a table for storage and have a fantastically creative coffee table that will impress all of your compass-loving friends. Even better, build a lazy susan full of compasses. That’ll keep you entertained all day long, guaranteed.
