Mimas, one of the moons of Saturn, has been caught looking remarkably like that of the video game icon Pac-Man.

The image, taken by the Cassini spaceship which is orbiting the planet, measured temperature differences across the object’s surface and produced a map mimicking the popular character.

Mimas is about 400km (250 miles) across. It has a distinctive scar called Herschel Crater which has led many to draw comparisons with the “Death Star” from the Star Wars movies.

Colin Furze, a plumber who adapted his scooter to shoot 15ft flames from the rear, has been arrested for an alleged firearms offence.

Mr Furze, modified his scooter with an anti-tailgating flame thrower operated by the flick of switch. He was featured in the press, but when police saw the pictures he was arrested and held on suspicion of possessing an object converted into a firearm.

Speaking before his arrest, he said: ”Everybody wants a flame thrower on a motor bike. I don’t need a flame thrower on the back of my bike, I’m not going to set fire to people’s car’s, it’s just something interesting to do.”

The scooter, which was built before Christmas, was Mr Furze’s third attempt at the project after the first did not ignite and the second burst into flames.

Said to be the world’s cleverest man, Dr Grigory Perelman, 44, lives as a recluse in a bare cockroach-infested flat in St Petersburg. He said to The Daily Mail through his closed door: ‘I have all I want.’

Perelman has a history of not accepting awards for his work. Four years ago, the maths genius failed to turn up to receive his prestigious Fields Medal from the International Mathematical Union for solving the problem.

At the time he stated: ‘I’m not interested in money or fame. I don’t want to be on display like an animal in a zoo. I’m not a hero of mathematics. I’m not even that successful, that is why I don’t want to have everybody looking at me.’

Berlin-based artist Hans Hemmert threw a party where guests wore shoe-extenders to make them all the same height of 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches).

Aside from bringing the partygoers all to a common eye level, the gathering is lent an infographic nature by the shoes: all made from blue foam, the person’s real height is read in the visual uniformity of the sole instead of at the head – like a walking bar graph.

Earth Hour 2010 is set to be the biggest Earth Hour yet, with more participants expected to take part than in 2009, when 1 billion people switched off. 121 countries have signed up for Earth Hour 2010, and 812 iconic landmarks will turn off their lights. They include the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House, El Ángel, the Empire State Building and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Please do your bit by turning off all non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour at 8:30pm local time on March 27 and spread the word so others do the same. What a great way of saying thank you to our planet.

80% of Spanish travellers who were questioned said that they do not always tip when they visit other countries. They were closely followed by 78% of Italians and 76% of French tourists.

Commenting on the study, Emyr Thomas, director of concierge and lifestyle management company Bon Vivant, said: “Tipping can be socially awkward and can cause endless embarrassment, especially on holiday when we are unfamiliar with local customs.

“In some countries it is considered rude not to tip, so you might need to justify yourself, just as in others, such as Japan, it is often considered rude to tip at all.”

Since then chain letters have evolved and moved from paper mail to e-mails and later to social media networks. However, chain mail nowadays usually contains some clause which pressurizes the recipient into forwarding it to other people.

Of course this is complete nonsense, but many people still believe such threats and send it on ‘just in case’. As a result, the number of recipients grow exponentially and a worthless and pointless piece of text is spread around the internet.

29-year-old Carly Houston was arrested in Naperville, Illinois and taken to the local police station, where she was offered the chance to make a call to a friend or family member.

But instead Houston used the call to dial 911, which connected her to Naperville police dispatchers – to whom she reported that she was ‘trapped inside the detention facility’.

Unfortunately for her, the Naperville police department proved strangely reluctant to free her from the clutches of the Naperville police department. Instead, she was charged with ‘theft of labor or services’, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and, for good measure, making a false 911 report.
