Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has announced the launch of a completely new regional jet. The new CRJ550, the first triple-class 50-seat aircraft in the world designed to offer more comfort to today’s regional airline passengers. The CRJ550 is a new CRJ Series aircraft model, based on the CRJ700. United Airlines is the launch customer of this new model, and the new aircraft will be flown by United Express carrier GoJet.

“The new CRJ550 model is the only solution in North America that can replace the existing fleet of ageing 50-seaters, a market of over 700 aircraft, said Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. It offers improved passenger experience with ample on-board storage for carry-on bags and more passenger living space. This is one more example of how we are focusing on creating value for our customers and a very important endorsement from United in regards to the CRJ platform.”

The CRJ550 will feature a self-serve beverage and snack station and more overall legroom per seat than any other 50-seat aircraft flown by any U.S. carrier, in addition to all the benefits for which the CRJ Series aircraft are known.

Aircraft manufacturers are developing new aircraft in response to the expanding airline industry around the world, driven by the record number of passengers who want to fly to their destinations. This expansion has created an incredible demand for new airline pilots and created opportunities to become airline pilots and fly for the airlines.

ATP graduates are meeting and exceeding their career objectives and positioning themselves for multi-million dollar careers flying for the airlines and programs such as ATP’s Tuition Reimbursement Program are helping them succeed.

The pilot shortage affecting airlines in the United States has become a problem for airline operations around the world, including our biggest and best airlines as reported on SeekingAlpha.com. FedEx has the highest paid pilots in the world but still needs to take action to deal with the fast-growing airline industry. The following news shows the opportunities made available for those willing to train for careers flying for the airlines.

With the peak holiday shipping season fast-approaching, global package delivery giant FedEx Corp is paying retirement-age pilots bonuses of $40,000 – and potentially as much as $110,000 – to keep them flying into next year, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter and a contract seen by Reuters.

The bonuses, outlined in the latest pilot contract and previously unreported, reveal that a wave of pilot retirements, global pilot shortages and rising cargo demand fueled by the growth of global e-commerce are straining the world’s largest air delivery fleet.

FedEx expects to lose about 150-200 of its roughly 5,000 pilots this year – and around the same number annually for the foreseeable future – as more approach age 65, the federally mandated pilot retirement age, one of the sources said.

The FedEx pilot contract seen by Reuters, signed in late 2015, includes a calculation that allows for bonuses of up to $110,000 per pilot. The two sources told Reuters they were aware of pilots collecting bonuses this year of $40,000 to $50,000, though the total number of payouts was unclear.

Flying for FedEx is the highest-paying job among U.S. carriers, with 30-year pilots making roughly $300,000 not counting overtime or bonuses, industry sources said.

People interested in pursuing a career flying for the airlines and beginning training now with ATP will join their first airline in about two years. They will make between $60k and $80k their first year and upgrade to Captain in another two years or so. The upgrade to Captain includes a 40% increase in pay. After a few years as a Captain, they will be eligible to begin applying for even more lucrative jobs flying for the major and legacy airlines.

A rewarding six-million dollar career begins by training with the company with the most proven record of training pilots for the airline industry: ATP.

In its recently released 2018 Pilot and Technician Outlook, Boeing is forecasting that the airline industry will need over 790,000 new airline pilots over the next 20 years. That figure is more than twice as many pilots that presently fly for the airlines according to an article in Civil Aviation Training (CAT) magazine.

The demand is being driven by an anticipated doubling of the global commercial airplane fleet – as reported in Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook – as well as record-high air travel demand and a tightening labor supply. This year’s outlook also includes data from the business aviation and civil helicopter sectors for the first time.

“Despite strong global air traffic growth, the aviation industry continues to face a pilot labor supply challenge, raising concern about the existence of a global pilot shortage in the near-term,” said Keith Cooper, vice president of Training & Professional Services, Boeing Global Services. “An emphasis on developing the next generation of pilots is key to help mitigate this. With a network of training campuses and relationships with flight schools around the globe, Boeing partners with customers, governments and educational institutions to help ensure the market is ready to meet this significant demand.”

The global pilot shortage is driving the airlines to improve work rules to make flying for the airlines an even better career than was available previously. They have also increased starting pay greatly over the last few years in order to attract new pilots to the airline industry and now offer huge incentives to come fly for them.

The safest, surest and quickest path to an airline career begins at ATP. Arrange for an Introductory Flight today at one of ATP’s training centers and begin on your own path to an exciting and lucrative career flying for the airlines.

ATP Flight School has accepted delivery of ten new Cessna 172 SkyHawks from Textron Aviation, Inc. The new deliveries compliment last year’s order of 15 Skyhawks, delivered in December. All of the new aircraft are equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXi electronic flight deck and will be utilized by students and instructors in ATP’s Airline Career Pilot Program, which provides pilots with a training path, from zero experience to airline pilot job in just over two years.

Over the past two years, ATP Flight School has taken delivery of 70 training aircraft; nearly half of which are factory-new Piper Archers that complete 2013’s 100-aircraft order for the single-engine Piper trainer. As airline pilot hiring demand rapidly accelerates, an additional 100-Archer order was announced by Piper and ATP in April, with firm orders for 30 aircraft and the option for 70 additional aircraft. Having consistently exercised options on the original 2013 order, ATP will continue to take delivery of new aircraft every month through the end of this year and into next.

“As the leading supplier of professionally-trained pilots to the nation’s regional airlines, we are continuing to invest in new, safe, and reliable training aircraft for our students and instructors,” said ATP president, Justin Dennis.

The ten Cessna 172 Skyhawks delivered this month will join ATP’s fleet of 313 aircraft, which fly 253,000 flight hours annually to place over 530 pilots at airlines in the last 12 months.

The demand for new airline pilots has exceeded the present supply. This has improved pay and working conditions for every airline pilot flying for the airlines. It has also created thousands of opportunities for people to begin an exciting and lucrative career flying in the airline industry.

The 4% year-over-year gain in travelers during March and April comes on top of a record number of travelers for all of 2017, according to Airlines for America, a trade group representing most of the largest carriers.

The average 2.47 million daily passengers means about 94,000 more passengers will be flying each day as compared to same period a year ago, according to the airline group. Airlines are responding to the increased demand by adding more flights and bigger planes on existing routes. That, the group says, will add an average of 114,000 seats each day.

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker argued at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Aviation Summit this month that the industry had been transformed to reliable profitability rather than just the beneficiary of lower fuel prices.

“We had a business in the past that was struggling to be a real business,” Parker said.
“We’re still a cyclical business,” Parker said, with peaks and valleys of costs and earnings. “But I fully believe in those times it will be a profitable business, unlike it was in the past.”
Well trained pilots are in high demand in the US as a result of this steady expansion by the airlines. This fact creates even more opportunity to become an airline pilot and thousands are taking advantage of that opportunity.

The largest and most successful flight training organization in the United States is focused on training the next generations of airline pilots, as we have done for over thirty years. Join the new airline pilots at ATP who are quickly completing flight training and entering airline cockpits across the US. There they will be flying for thriving airlines and flying the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world. A career in aviation begins at ATP.

Those of us here at ATP have had the pleasure of watching our graduates quickly move on to great jobs flying for the airlines here in the US. Occasionally I also have the pleasure of sharing one of those graduate’s story with you. Scott Weddell began his aviation career in March of 2013 when he arrived at our McClellan-Palomar Airport (KCRQ) Flight Training Center to begin flight training. Scott graduated from the Airline Career Pilot Program later in 2013 and began instructing for us at ATP at our Scottsdale, Arizona Flight Training Center. Scott was interviewed by SkyWest Airlines while he was still with ATP in 2014 and brought into the SkyWest Pathway Program. Scott shares the rest of the story with us.

March 4, 2018 will be 5 Years since I started my career in aviation. It’s amazing to me how much has changed and what I have learned during that time.

What sticks out to me the most is how fast it all goes. One moment I’m a senior in college googling flight schools and trying to figure out how I’m going to make my dream come true, and the next moment I’m working for SkyWest Airlines as a first officer flying an ERJ-175.

Being the first pilot in my family has made my aviation career path one I had to discover on my own. Growing up in a small town in Southern California with no airports for miles made it difficult to pursue my passion of flying. After much research and effort, I discovered ATP’s flight school.

ATP offered me the fast-paced accelerated program I had been looking for. Having already received my bachelor’s degree in communications, I was looking for a flight school that would help me to obtain all my certificates needed to become a professional pilot. So, on March 4, 2013, I started my flight training in San Diego, California.

After seven months of training and flight instructing in Scottsdale, Arizona, I was hired at SkyWest Airlines flying the ERJ-175. Flying at SkyWest is one of the most fulfilling things I have done with my life. From helping people travel to seeing new places myself, I have found that being an airline pilot is more than I ever could have hoped for.

After a year at SkyWest, I was given the opportunity to join their recruiting team. I now get to travel the country sharing my story and love of aviation, as well as helping people reach their goal of becoming an airline pilot. It’s amazing to me how small of a community the aviation world is. This community offers an immense amount of support and guidance. Helping people find their career path in aviation is one of my favorite parts of being a recruiter. It’s also allowed me to give back to ATP by mentoring the next generation of pilots that are starting their career in the same place I was not long ago. To use a rather obvious pun, these past 5 years have flown by and from where I’m sitting, you can’t get a better view to watch life unfold.

Scott made the correct choice in choosing the best Airline Career Pilot focused flight training available. Scott did his due diligence, and when he was satisfied that he knew enough to make the right decision he chose to train with ATP. The decision was too important to trust any other institution.

ATP has a 30-year history of providing aspiring airline pilots rock-solid flight training that gives them the best chance of beginning a well-paid career flying for the airlines. Your career is important too. When success matters the most, choose to train with ATP.

Learn how much airline pilots are paid and how much you can expect to earn as a regional airline pilot.

We have been following most trends involving the airlines in the United States for years, and there has recently been very good news on the pilot pay issue. Airlines have been raising wages and improving workplace rules that allow for a much-improved quality of life for pilots. So just what can airline captains plan to earn in 2018? With the global airline industry flourishing with net profits exceeding $31 billion, pilots can expect to earn more than they used to according to an article at Airline Pilot Central.

We will start with the Legacy Airlines:

United Airlines’ two-year pay extension to the United Pilot Agreement continues to keep them at the top of our list. American Airlines is ranked second-highest once again this year, with salaries expected to increase once again by three percent on the first of next year. Delta Air Lines also experienced a positive change, with average pay increasing thanks to the new labor contract that was ratified last year. Hawaiian Airlines finally ratified a new labor contract this year, with raises ranging between 36 and 86 percent.

All listed pay is hourly –

Major Airlines:

Southwest Airlines, considered one of the largest domestic airlines based on traffic, is at the top of our list. JetBlue Airways has once again secured the second position on our list. It appears that JetBlue’s plan to increase profits by adding more seats to A321’s has paid off. Holding the third position, Allegiant Air continues to be in the top portion of our list, due to the union contract that was ratified last year. Frontier Airlines experienced a $5 increase in pay on average. Frontier plans to increase domestic reach to 90% by April of next year.

All of these airlines are hiring pilots from the regional airlines in the US mainly (some come from military backgrounds). Those regional airlines are hiring new pilots to meet the increased demand but are having a tough time retaining pilots for more than a few years before they are hired by larger airlines.

The hiring across all levels of the airline business means that if you start training now for a career flying for the airlines, you can be seated in the cockpit in less than two years.
The airlines have increased starting pay for new pilots greatly over the last few years, and now offer huge incentives to come fly for them.

The safest, surest and quickest path to an airline career begins at ATP. Arrange for an Introductory Flight today at one of ATP’s training centers and begin your own path to the airlines.

“This extension is an investment in our people and our future,” said Matt Koscal, Republic’s senior vice president and chief administrative officer. “The fact that the agreement was reached well ahead of the amendable date is reflective of our commitment to a strong, mutually beneficial and proactive relationship with our labor groups. The agreement also is a vital element in making Republic the strongest and best regional airline in the industry.”

The extension better positions Republic to both retain and recruit the pilots necessary to maintain its industry-leading operational performance, and it is a credit to the hard work and good intentions on both sides. “On behalf of every Republic Associate, we’re grateful to the IBT negotiating committee and to our pilots for studying the agreement and participating in the shaping of our future,” Koscal concluded.
