Ciara on Big Morning Buzz | What She Wore

Ciara was on VH1's Big Morning Buzz this morning promoting her new album One Woman Army. Always on the "Hit and Miss", I'm not too sure what to call this one. I'm a fan of Red Bottoms, I'm a fan of boots, I'm a fan of drop crotch pants, and I'm a fan of black, but all put together like so....I just don't know?!

The drop crotch pant is SUPER dropped...

Maybe too dropped??

LOVE the shoes though!!

I don't know, I'm not able to reach a verdict, it's an "inbetweener" lol. It's not horrible, all black could never be horrible....

I got it! Like literally just now it came to me...I couldn't get my finger on it, but it's there now! I think what's bugging me is that from the ankle up (lol, yes the ankle up) she's in chill mode. She looks lounge-ish, except she threw on a pair of 15-inch heels, working under the rule we all use: "heels dress up any outfit"...but it didn't quite work! Lol Reworked, like mixed and matched with other pieces in her wardrobe, I'm sure it could have been a strong "Hit"!

Leona Lewis' Album Signing | What She Wore

Leona Lewis had an album signing at HMV in London's Oxford Street for her third studio album Glassheart. Cute girl, but I'm not really feeling this look. It's rumored that she was apprehensive about the signing, given she was attacked by a crazed fan at her last signing for Dreams in 2009. As a result, she upped her security for today's signing, but I'm wondering if this "apprehensiveness" played into effect with her wardrobe??

The shoes are cute......that's all I got! lol

Her nails are cute.....((crickets))

Idk, in my opinion that dress does nothing for her..((shrugs))

Leona's dress during her performance at London's G-A-Y on Saturday, however, was definitely the better look.

BAKERS CHAPTER 11!!!

It's been announced Bakers is filing for BANKRUPTCY! ((gasps))

Unfortunately, I'm not too surprised. When I think about where I've been shoe shopping these past couple years, it hasn't been Bakers! Lol, though I do believe they have great shoes :)

Apparently they haven't made an annual profit since 2006??!? Crystal Financial LLC is loaning them $22 million to get them through the bankruptcy, contingent upon the company either having a restructuring agreement in place by Nov 2nd, or finding a buyer.

This isn't the first time Bakers went into bankruptcy. Parts of Bakers (before it was named Bakers) was bought out of bankruptcy in 1999 by its chief executive officer Peter Edison, now CEO.

It's expected the file for Chapter 11 will render company shares worthless. Investors holding more than 5 percent of Bakers' stock include big names like Peter Edision (CEO), Steve Madden Ltd, and Wells Fargo & Co and investment funds.

So does this mean big sales for Bakers shoppers?? Well, I don't know if this means big sales, but there is quite the sale going on NOW both online and in-store including a FREE pair of shoes with your purchase of boots for $99!! I advise all to take a peek!

LOVE these Clover Canyon creations! SO0o0o, I received my Lip Savvy! Star Studded Shine Gloss in the mail a couple weeks ago. Receiving a package in the mail is always fun, but with the contents being a recently launched lip gloss you could only imagine my excitement! After weeks of usage I feel I am able to give my full opinion and review of the product, but first here's a little background on Lip Savvy!. Founder Deidra Whatley, Louisiana bred country singer, took her love for makeup/ lip gloss to the next level by creating a product she felt met her needs and lived up to its expectations. Her goal with Lip Savvy! was "to create an efficient, easy-to-use, multi-functional, on-the-go beauty that is a trend, fun to use and embodies the best age-defying technology available today". I based my critique on this goal, and a few other categories below, check it out!

The Facts

Quick wrinkle smoothing effect, minimizing and preventing fine lines and wrinkles
Long-term hydration due to ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in water
Contains Vitamin E, soothing and improving softness
Produces a long-term plumping effect

My Thoughts

Though it was launched over the summer, I feel Lip Savvy! is good for the winter. I found it to be thick and as a result long lasting, key things a winter lip gloss should have. Anything that contributes to keeping me moisturized and warm in the winter is the way to go in my book! When it's cold, I personally don't want to have to keep reapplying lip gloss, and if that's your attitude Lip Savvy! is for you!
Through eating, drinking, and excessive licking my application of Lip Savvy! not only stayed on, but continued to uphold its gloss finish. Not to mention, it has a nice flavor for those (such as I) who still lick their lips even with product on.
Lip Savvy! Star Studded Shine Gloss having a light tint and specs of glitter, is good by itself or over a colored lip. Though I'm not a big fan of glitter, it's not over done so I'm not completely turned off; however, I do feel the gloss is more about the shimmer than the color.
As far as the lip plumping, I guess only time with use of the product will tell, but at this point I believe it's the shimmer of the gloss creating the illusion of fuller lips.

Lip Savvy! VooDoo BABY

On a scale from 1-10, keeping in mind her goal, and consideration of whether I'd use Lip Savvy! in my everyday regime (which is a 50% chance, since my lips are already full and youthful, and don't feel the need for an added plumping effect), I give Lip Savvy! an overall rating of 7.5, which I don't think is bad at all! Again, I could do without the glitter, and actually prefer a bit more of a tint (perhaps a ColorGlam shade would be better); but all in all, I believe it's well formulated and does what a gloss is supposed to do...plus it comes in cute packaging and 22 shades!

Beyonce's "Love on Top" video is finally here, and I'm not disappointed! Dance steps were tight, paying homage to the great late Micheal Jackson with a few of her moves, but a couple key pieces in her wardrobe is what really did it for me. First off, Bey is rockin' sneakers, AND hightops at that! Crip walking!! LOL... Proving my answer to the question "Can Divas Wear Flats??" CORRECT!! Second, she took a serious fashion risk of wearing blazers, and blazers alone. YES you heard right, diva is dancing bra-less in just a blazer! Not just the traditional blazer either, a cut-out midriff one too! I mean people model and take pictures with just a blazer all the time, but to actually be functional and not look slutty... she did that!! I wish I could pull that off ;)

Kanye's debut at Paris Fashion Week: "A Love Letter To Fashion"

“The collection turned out to be neither triumph nor train wreck.”(WWD) Shown in front of a small crowd with just two rows of benches Kanye debuted the most anticipated SS collection for Paris Fashion Week 2012. With a transformed Lycée Henri-IV secondary school into a Dw runway, taking to assumption as many others, that Dw is the name of the collection (possibly a tribute to his late mother Donda West) those in attendance included top execs from Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York, editors from the major fashion publications like Anna Wintour, and a handful of designers and celebs such as Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Dean and Dan Caten, Oliver Theyskens, Jeremy Scott, the Olsen twins, Carine Roitfeld, Silvia Fendi, Jared Leto, Ciara, and Chanel Iman who flew in from New York to be in the show.

The rumors about who helped West with his collection can be put to rest, for now. It’s been concluded he looked to British designer Louise Goldin and to Central Saint Martins professor Louise Wilson for help and advice (respectively). Though those are all who were mentioned, I’m sure there’s more to the team.. however, I don’t believe it includes CSM fashion students.

After the show Kanye shared “I’ve had a lot of ideas, color palettes, a certain type of attitude I wanted to express.” At the Celine show the next day, West described his design process as a team effort. “Every designer works with a team, it’s just different for me because I’m a celebrity. I’ve learned so much even in one day.”

A lot of people had their take on the collection, but I found it most interesting the amount of support and positive feedback received from designers and fellow celebs:

“This is no J.Lo basics line... I adore him and I think that he is such a passionate and genuine artist in every sense of the word.” -Jeremy Scott

Imogen described the show as“A love letter to fashion.”

“I loved the pants, the color-blocking and the orange, I loved the fur accessories, I loved the black dresses... There was a lot of attitude. It was strong, sexy... I loved it. I kept seeing looks that made me think, 'Oh my God, I want that.' ”-Ciara

I personally don't think it was a bad a collection, especially being his first one. It could have been a little more cohesive and season appropriate, and I can't say I liked every piece...BUT I do believe it's a true reflection of Kanye, and what more can you ask for! Below are a selected few looks, judge for yourself!

Colors: Creme, blush, black, pale grey and teal blue.

Accessories: Fur stoles, Fur backpack, Strappy stiletto and Pearl-beaded sandals, "Yeezi" nameplate chain.

Who To Expect Seen In It: Carine Roitfeld (who is placing a personal order) & Ciara (who already expressed just how much she loved it).

Kanye kept it pretty professional with post show interviews, but at the after party the Kanye we all know and love came to surface:

“Thank you for anybody that didn’t believe, because they motivated us to break our boundaries...We don’t know what the reviews will be, we don’t know what they will say, but I got a chance to go to Italy and feel those fabrics. I begged Louis Vuitton to let me do more shoes after my shoes sold out in two weeks, and they did not. I begged Nike, I begged this company to let me do it. And I took out motherf---ing loans to get the best models, to get the best designers, to get the best venue. I gave you everything that I had.
This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow. This is not some celebrity s---. I don’t f--- with celebrities. I f--- with the creatives in this room, the amazing people who spend every day of their life trying to make the world a more beautiful place.
The amount of people that tried to get me a celebrity f---ing deal. They said, ‘You need to do boot-cut jeans, or you won’t sell.’ Shut the f--- up ! Or Hedi Slimane in the motherf---ing Mercer, sitting with me, saying, ‘Stop giving them your ideas, Kanye. Do your own thing.’ Hedi Slimane! To feel so frustrated. And I thank anybody who came to this party, everybody who supported, everybody who believed, because people thought it was a joke, and maybe people still do, but I can only grow from this point.”

I'm with Ye, but hey I'm a fan so what else can I say! Congrats to him on the collection, look forward to what he plans to bring our way next!

Kanye West: Expensive && Well Considered

There has been an overflow of rumors surrounding Kanye West and his still untitled womenswear collection for Paris Fashion Week. According to various sources, West recruited a team of Central Saint Martins (London) fashion students, who are supposedly working under designers Louise Goldin and Dean Quinn, "with the likely consultation of Louise Wilson", the head of CSM's MA fashion department. Professor Wilson is said to have advised West, describing him as a “global phenomenon and a very interesting person”, and expects the collection to be “well-considered”. She also mentioned his contribution to the college. (Some sources claim Louise helped and some dispute it, but one thing sources do agree on is Kanye's donation)

It has also been stated "Kanye was in fairly often; for all the fittings. [He] was very nice and polite and talked knowledgeably about shape etc, but was prone to changing his mind a lot – in fact the whole process was slightly excruciating as there were SO many opinions that it took forever to get anything done." Speculation designer Katie Eary is on board the project has surfaced as well... No one really knows, but after reported seen spending 14000 Pounds in an east London fabric shop, I think it's safe to say a collection has definitely been produced.

With the official invitations sent (#fact!), West is expected to make his Prêt-à-porter debut tonight (@ 9:30) at an off site location, being he's not apart of the official Paris Fashion Week line up (but who cares, creatively the best shows are off site anyway!) Given he’s a big fan of Céline, Givenchy, and Alexander Wang, most are presuming a mix of the three. Rumors his choice of colors are gold, ivory, and peach (a rumor I hope is true!), it has additionally been quoted he's into "Samurai-inspired, 'sporty' garments, with luxury fabrics" and "gold chainmail." It's been forecasted the collection "will be extraordinarily expensive" and "virtually unproduceable." I don't know about you, but I can't wait! Anything Kanye is something to see!! Louis Vuitton: "Always Very French.."

Opening Milan Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton's 'The Art of Fashion' exhibition displays 30 key looks going as far back to 1998, in hommage to Marc Jacob and his time as creative director for Louis Vuitton. Showing from Sept 22-Oct 9th at Milan's design museum La Triennale, fans have well over a week to witness more than a decades worth of work. Using LV Speedy bags instead of heads on the mannequins, the exhibit reveals a more modern representation in which "highlights Jacobs' collaboration with artists including Richard Prince, Julie Verhoeven, Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami." (WWD)

Katie Grand, Love Magazine editor in chief and "the most sought-out stylist in the industry"(The New York Times Style Magazine) is responsible for curating the exhibit, and this is not the first tme. Within her decade of working with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, she curated Louis Vuitton’s first ever exhibition paying hommage to his ready to wear collections in May 2010. She went on to do it again in Moscow that same year, and in Paris May 2011. This Fall's exhibition received a lot buzz, and after looking at it I can see why! Take a look at this "up close and personal", behind the scenes footage of Grand as she explains her creative process!

Grand wasn't coined "the most sought out stylist" for nothing, from her past involvement with Prada womenswear and Dolce & Gabbana and D&G menswear to her FW 2011 collaborations on presentations by Louis Vuitton, Giles, Loewe, Topshop, Jonathan Saunders, Emanuel Ungaro, and the Lanvin for H&M show last November in NY, she is what most would consider a 'Super Stylist' to say the least.

Her hard work styling shows, as well as advertising campaigns for six major fashion brands, including Marc Jacobs, has gained her great recognition including a nomination for the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator for the 2011 British Fashion Awards scheduled for November 28^th. Guess you'll be hearing more from Katie Grand in November!

Inside the Industry with..Ally Marie

PinMeUpAshley: Now, I know your interest in jewelry started at a young age, but when did you decide to take this interest to the next level?

AllyMarie: I decided to take that big leap towards the end of 2007. I figured life is too short to not even try, so I literally went to the bead store and bought a whole bunch of stuff, and through lots of trial and error and beads falling all over the place I created my first collection.

PinMeUpAshley: That's Awesome! How would you describe your style?

AllyMarie: Hmmm. It’s hard because I have never been one to purposely follow trends and I’ve never had an interest in something just because it’s a name brand. If I had to describe my style it would be simple chic. I love white baby T’s. My ideal outfit would be skinny jeans, a sick shoe, a white T, and one of my necklaces.

PinMeUpAshley: "Simple Chic," love it! Where do you draw your inspiration?

AllyMarie: My inspiration comes from so many things. I could be watching a show or see something in a magazine or even be observing a pretty color in nature.

PinMeUpAshley: Nice. So you majored in Broadcast Journalism and some big things have came from that as well. Care to share with us?

AllyMarie: Sure…lets see, after I graduated from Temple University I got my first job working at 'Hype Hair' magazine. I have also been a career editor for 'Honey' magazine, and am currently a contributing editor for 'Today’s Black Woman Style Report.' The key to breaking into your industry is thinking out of the box, remaining true to yourself, and being a nice person. When you are nice and people like you they will always look out for you.

PinMeUpAshley: Wow you just dove right in! Great words of advice, and so true! You're proof nice people don't always finish last. On another note, who are some celebrities that have worn your jewelry?

AllyMarie: Alicia Keys, Estelle, Rebecca Crews, actress Lisa Arrindell Anderson, and host Shon Gables from 'Black Enterprise Business Report.' And I am really excited because Estelle is wearing my "Clearly Yours" necklace in her new "Break My Heart" video...she's such a sweetheart.

PinMeUpAshley: It sounds exciting, congrats! Not to mention, a pretty well rounded selection of celebs. What designers do you look up to?

AllyMarie: I really admire Kimora. I love her drive and the way she handles her business…it’s inspiring.

PinMeUpAshley: I definitely agree, and I think it's safe to say a lot of young aspiring business women feel the same. I've seen some of your recent pieces, which I LOVE by the way. What have your collections consisted of in the past?

AllyMarie: In the past I used Swarovski crystals, glass beads and lots of precious stones. My latest collection “Behold A Lady” is very feminine and modern. You can wear all of my pieces with skinny jeans and a tank or dressed up.

PinMeUpAshley: Fancy materials, Classic namesake, I can dig it. Can you tell us about Ally Marie Custom Couture Clothing?

AllyMarie: I made dresses when I was in college and sold a few, but decided to pursue jewelry and accessories first. I still have lots of great ideas for dresses and tops, but that may come later down the line.

PinMeUpAshley: Okay cool! It's always nice to branch out. What other interests/ passions do you have, and how do plan to integrate them with your current projects?

AllyMarie: Oh I have so many interests (laughs). The best advice my mother gave me was to do one thing at a time because if you don’t nothing gets your full creativity and attention. So although I would love to start thinking about my non-profit for little girls, or my idea for a shoe boutique, I have to stop myself. However, I have always done my own marketing and public relations and I have a passion for helping people get started so I’ve been consulting for small businesses and people who are trying to reach for their dreams and I love it.
PinMeUpAshley: That's Amazing! And true words of wisdom from your mother. How do you balance everything, and what do you set as priority?

AllyMarie: Balancing everything is an ongoing challenge. I have learned to slow down a lot. I was running around from meeting to meeting and making necklaces and writing articles and while I still do those things it is just at a more relaxed pace. The most important thing is my sanity and peace of mind. I keep things in order by making to do lists and not beating myself up if the whole thing doesn’t get done in one day. I am just happy if at least three things get done.

PinMeUpAshley: Ms. Ally Marie you just have it all figured out! (laughs) I'm taking notes! What are some other challenges you have overcome in this journey so far?

AllyMarie: I think the largest challenge is financial. It is super challenging when you live in New York city and you have to pay rent and bills and student loans and buy food and jewelry supplies and marketing materials and pay to be a vendor at shows. It can get overwhelming, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am just letting it flow and when I do get a little discouraged I just remind myself that everything always falls right into place.

PinMeUpAshley: Amen! With that said, what level of success would you say you've achieved, and what do you see in the near future?

AllyMarie: I think I have been very successful and not just because of the celebrities or really amazing women that have been customers, but because I tried. The fact that I got started and put all of my effort and creativity into something I am super passionate about makes me feel successful. It takes a lot of guts to go against the grain and live a different lifestyle then most people you know.

Belt ATTACK!!

Belts are so0o0o back in style!! I was always a belt lover, so they will forever be in in my eyes, and taking a look at this past 2011 BET Awards, it seems like a few celeb stylist are finally in agreeance! Just as I mentioned in an earlier post Red Lips && Embellishments accessories such as a belt, help make a statement. Embellishing with a belt can change your outfit from plain and drab, to bold and fab!

What would this outfit be without it? This belt was a necessary addition, as it pretty much made the outfit.

Then there's Ms. A Keys..

This is not a belt, however, fitting into the category of embellishment this adornment saved her all black ensemble from turning her into a disappearing act. That stage was dark!!

Can you imagine this dress without a belt? Omg, hideous! It would not be form fitting at all, this embellished belt helped reveal shape, which is something every woman needs, thick or thin.

This was a simple addition. In her case a belt wasn't needed, but it was a nice compliment. It's not making that much of a statement, but that was a good way to go because her dress is saying it all.

Not to mention her Laruicci Silver Megawatt Ring making her too, a fellow inductee in my Book of Fierce. Go Ledisi! Simple yet bold!

PinMeUpAshley: What influenced you to start a career in fashion design?

StaciSherri: Growing up in a hair salon at an early age with a passion for dance & costume led me to design. Surrounding myself with glamour not only did I dream of wearing heels and fur, but I realized I was meant to dress beautiful women in even more beautiful pieces.

PinMeUpAshley: That's amazing to nurture a passion from such a young age. When was Staci Sherri officially launched?

StaciSherri: STACI SHERRI (INC) has been an official company since June 11th 2010, running & operating as such. Staci Sherri Inc. debuted the brand & the lady behind the brand on Thursday, May 12th 2011. (http://vimeo.com/23800832)

PinMeUpAshley: Oh wow, that's pretty recent! Congrats on what you've accomplished thus far! Before Staci Sherri Inc. you designed for a few big name labels, care to give us some insight?

StaciSherri: I was blessed to be part of a few amazing design teams, to name a few 'Dereon' by House of Dereon, sportswear brand of Singer/Song/Writer/Actress & “Mogul” Beyonce Knowles, and 'Luxirie' by LRG. I learned the ability to design outside of myself, designing for two companies whose style & customer are very different from mine. Often designing things that I would not design, nor create for a Staci Sherri customer.

PinMeUpAshley: Those are some heavy hitters! That's definitely a big deal, not to mention versatility is a very important trait to have as a designer. So describe your style and how you incorporate that when designing for the Staci Sherri customer?

StaciSherri: I am a 'pile of love' and I incorporate a lot of passion into my designs. I am also very adventurous so I take risks. [In the end] you can describe my style as flamboyant-- I do me as you should you. You will not say "I saw that before” when referring to Staci Sherri designs [that's] for sure.

PinMeUpAshley: Nice! Who is Staci Sherri "the woman" in connection with Staci Sherri "the brand"?

StaciSherri: I {the woman} was pregnant for years with this 'love', this burning passion, and finally gave birth to this beautiful brand. It’s my offspring, my baby. It's safe to say a lot of me {the woman} is in this brand, with the help of God I created this & will continue to nurture her {the brand}. 'Staci Sherri' is what I call her, (laughs) she’s named after her mother (giggles). As she {the brand} continues to grow I am sure she will develop her own personality.

PinMeUpAshley: Very well put. "When I grow up, I want to be just like me," we see this everywhere there's Staci Sherri. Can you explain this mantra in relation to your vision and brand?

StaciSherri: When I was kid this was my mantra. I lived by this mantra as well as some of my peers. It’s more than a statement it is a movement to empower across the nation. I believe that everyone should love & cherish exactly who they are, and how they impact the earth. By doing so, you inspire to be like you. PinMeUpAshley: That's awesome! I like that, and I definitely admire your ambition. How would you describe the journey of Staci Sherri so far?

StaciSherri: This journey is a marathon. It’s a lot of hard work, exciting, loads of fun, & very scary. I am enjoying empowering women, by enhancing their outer beauty while fostering their inner beauty. All while doing something I love. (sighs) I am in Love.

PinMeUpAshley: That has to be a amazing feeling! Do you have a celebrity following? Who would you like to see wearing Staci Sherri?

StaciSherri: My customers are the celebrity, you know my mantra “when I grow up I want to be just like me,” I mean just that. Therefore I refer to my customers as 'StarZ'. These women dare to live differently, exceptionally, beautifully and excitedly through creative arts, travel, entertainment and experience. It is flattering [however] when I see well known celebrities wearing Staci Sherri.

PinMeUpAshley: That's a great mentality to have, way to stick by your words! Tell us about "Magical Black".

StaciSherri: "Magical Black" is a trans-seasonal collection. Have you ever had a few pieces in your closet you can wear year round? Well that’s "Magical Black". I used some life experiences that created clouds in my life as well as the stigma behind a black cat crossing your path and giving you bad luck. I wanted to message women across the world that Black is beautiful and can be Magical. It does not have to be just worn to funerals, cocktail parties, or interviews. Lets have fun with your BLACK, BLACK IS HAPPY, BEAUTIFUL & BOLD. Step out in "Magical Black!"

PinMeUpAshley: LOVE that! How is this collection different from your previous collection?

StaciSherri: "Papillon Amour" means Butterfly (in French) Love (in Spanish), this collection is a very small group of pieces that were inspired by my love for butterflies. This collection today is known as "SS Signature," many of these styles will always be available & considered a 'Staci Sherri Staple' on our planet.

PinMeUpAshley: I like!! What can we look forward to for future collections?

StaciSherri: A breath of fresh air, innovative designs at affordable price.

PinMeUpAshley: That's always a good thing! Staci Sherri is still a fairly new brand, where do you see yourself say 3 years from now?

Up and coming designer Alejandra G debuted her very first shoe collection of textured heels earlier this month. Officially launched, her self titled collection entails a unique mix of fabrics, patterns, and colors giving a bold new face to glamor. With her daring approach of patenting the black and white striped sole, Alejandra G has made her shoes as identifiable Louboutins!

Her signature luxury label, made with quality materials entirely imported from Italy, is already creating a buzz with a focus on the brands exclusivity. Alejandra G truly believes accessories are the “heart and sole” to a woman’s outfit, and I have to agree! These fun and flirty heels,(which I have inside word are also comfy!) have a futuristic time stamp on footwear, and will definitely turn heads!

My opinion: BRAVA! It's really hard to come out as a new shoe designer and develop a fan base because when it comes to footwear, everyone's loyalty is already set on their favorite brand; on the contrary, Alejandra is taking full stride to just that! I think Miss Alejandra G is genius for the patented "black and white bottom" and predict she will achieve the attention and positioning she's setting out for.
