No matter how our house is well insulated and with shut windows, it doesn't mean we are free from pollutions and allergens indoors. Being more airtight also means that there are chemicals, smoke and vapors emitted while cooking, smoking or many other things. These can actually cause asthma and other respiratory problems. It can also cause headaches, flu-like symptoms and other neurological problems.

As much as possible avoid using strong, harsh air fresheners that can cause irritation of eyes, nose, etc. Instead, go fragrance-free by dipping cotton balls in a sweet smelling extract like vanilla and stash them around the house.

Don't let the bad stuff in. So, let the shoes or any footwears stay at the door area or front hall because they carry dirt, bacteria, mold and chemicals.
If you dry clean your clothes, be sure to bring them home few days after being done because freshly dry cleaned clothes can emit chemicals that have been linked to cancer and other neurological problems. Try going to a dry cleaner that uses "wet" or CO2 cleaning.

Always ventilate! Turn your stove or microwave's exhaust fan when cooking. It will help smoke and other chemicals released outside. Open your garage door when turning on your car to avoid carbon monoxide exposure that can go inside the house.

Vacuu at least 2x a week to get rid of excessive dust, lead, mold and pet dander. Don't dust or mop woth dry cloths but use damp cloth or wipes so as not to put the dust up in the air where you breathe.

Don't spray cleaners directly but spray it into a rag or paper towels so as not to inhale the fumes in the air.
Every little bit helps you and your love ones live in a safer, healthier house. Fewer chemicals, less dust and smoke.

Getting Rid Of Red Wine Stains On Your Dress

Wondering how you could lift that splash of Cabernet from your fave dress?
Here are tips that help:

First, be sure that the fabric won't run, then press a wet cotton ball on an inconspicuous spot, then lift up. If any color bleeds on the cotton ball, stop and take it to the dry cleaner.

On a clean white towel, place the garment facedown, then blot up as much of the wine as possible using a cotton swab to press the garment into the towel from the reverse side.

Try by soaking the cotton ball in a white vinegar and dab the stain from the back of the garment. Move the garment into a cleaner spot on the towel and keep tamping until no red comes out.

Repeat the entire steps with a half teaspoon of dish soap which is diluted in a cup of water.

Take note; - if the garment is labeled "dry clean only", take it right away to a professional dry cleaner. If not, wash it with a dye and fragrance-free detergent with enzymes (such as Seventh Generation Free & Clear).

Do you have RV? I bet for those who really love to travel or for those that have jobs that are always on the road through RV, for sure, they have their insurance for it.

In swapping your bath towel for a fresh one, ideal days should be 2-3 days, and always hang them up dry to prevent the growth of bacteria. Wash them in hot water.

In washing your sheets and pillow cases, it is ideal to do it once a week in hot water, then dry on the hottest setting. Wash pillows every 6 months and your comforter every 2 months.

How often should you replace your toothbrush?...get a new one monthly (plus anytime you've been sick). Rinse your toothbrush under the hottest water possible after use and stand up to dry to keep germs away.

Replace your sponges once a month and scrub brushes every 3-6 months.

Okay, so this winter, I had discovered I now own 10 pairs of boots! I have been eyeing some online deals on ugg boots, but I have to face it, I need to be financially considerate this year. Cleaning Your Home Without Harmful Chemicals

But you can make your own asthma-friendly cleaning formulas at home with your own little effort, by using common household ingredients such as baking soda and vinegar.

Here are some helpful easy-to-make recipes that are effective and safe for you and your family to use:

For cleaning windows and mirrors:
Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 2 quarts of warm water, then apply it with a clean sponge. Wipe off any excess with a dry rag or paper towel.

For Oven Cleaner:
Mix 1 cup of baking soda with enough water to make a paste. Then apply it to dirty oven surfaces and let stand. After a few minutes scrub it using a scouring pad. This method requires a little more elbow grease but is not toxic.

For Woodworks, Tiles and Linoleums:
To treat some spots on them, Murphy's liquid soap is good and safe all-purpose cleaner.

For Toilet Bowl Cleaner:
Sprinkle baking soda around the inside of the toilet bowl, then add a couple drops of liquid soap. Scrub with a brush and finish outside surface with a rag sprinkled with baking soda.

For Laundry:
Use "non-chlorine bleach" for lifting stains from clothing, or try soaking fabrics in water mixed with borax, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, baking soda or white vinegar.

For Linoleum Floor Cleaner:
Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar in a bucket of warm water. The smell will disappear when the floor dries.

It feels good to give stuff away that you don't use.

Clothes can be moved to a standing rack, or bins and boxes under the bed or stacked properly in a corner for out of season clothes. Another option is folding them, mostly ideal for wrinkled style clothes, or clothes that need not to be ironed.

Get double cascading hooks that let you hang multiple items from one hanger. Make use of the wall above the hanging rod by adding an additional shelf for off-season storage.
You can also install mini-shelves or under-wire baskets for any vertical space between existing shelves.

Use the back of the door by hanging an over-the-door-rack or hooks to neatly hang your small items such as bags, hats or belts.
