Buzz This, Integrate That!

Hello again Pingers! How is everyone doing this fine Wednesday? We wanted to do a quick update for you to explain the new stuff we have available for your social networking goodness.

First off, what's all this Google Buzz about? Well we know for sure that we've integrated the latest and greatest Google Buzz service as one of the networks we post to. Yes, the long awaited day has finally come to where you can post directly to Google Buzz from Ping.fm. Thanks to the Google team and the recent API launches at Google I/O. It has all come together very nicely. As they increase their API's functionality, we will be adding additional and more rich features as well. Hop on over to the Google Buzz page and let us know what you think!

And last, but by no means least, we are officially integrated into the ever-growing-in-popularity Seesmic Web client! We've had a swarm of requests for this since our recent Seesmic acquisition and now the day has finally come. This is just a small step in the Seesmic integrations, but a very important one. Soon we will also be integrated in all of the other clients Seesmic offers.

So, there you have it. Keeping it short, sweet and awesome. Keep on the lookout for more news in the near future. We are definitely brewing up some killer stuff.

See you soon!

Adam, Sean and rest of the Seesmic team

Read It, Feed It

Hello everyone! We know it's been a bit since you last heard from the Ping.fm team. So this is to help make up for lost time!

First, we want to let you know that everything with the Seesmic merge is going great! We're adapting well and working very hard integrating the products. It's been a tough year so far, but it's all been so worth it! Thanks again to everyone supporting us through the transition. You guys rock!

Now, let's get on to the goodies!

We've added two new features to the Ping.fm line-up; Feeds and Google Reader. We've had these requests sitting on the stove for some time now, and now we've whipped up the feature monster and are giving you access!

With the help from our mates over at Superfeedr, we can now take your RSS, Atom or other variants of feeds and pump them right into your Ping.fm social networks. And the best part about it all; it's real-time! Get your feed content delivered instantly to Ping.fm by just simply adding your feed into the system and poof! Magic.

Cool huh?

Using the same technology, you can also independently add your Google Reader feed (http://ping.fm/reader/) and have your "shared items" post instantly to your networks.

Sweet!

So, go get to feeding! Let us know of any suggestions with the new stuff by visiting our suggestion forum.

Thanks again for your continued support! We plan to really start busting the new features and integrations out like crazy!

Keep on the up and up by following @pingfm and @seesmic on Twitter. In addition, if you're having trouble, you can always voice questions on our help site: http://help.seesmic.com/ or for a quick response, contact us at the official @askseesmic Twitter page.

Seesmic(ing) Is Believing

The rumors are true! We have been acquired by Seesmic! If you aren't familiar with Seesmic, they are the guys who have created an ensemble of fantastic Twitter apps.

So what does this all mean? Well, a lot! Maybe too much for a single blog. You can definitely expect to see full integration of our services into all Seesmic clients within a few weeks. These clients include Seesmic Desktop (Adobe Air for Windows, OSX and Linux), Web, Android, Blackberry and the brand spankin' new Seesmic for Windows! We will be also improving the core service to provide more requested features and more ridiculous, infinite awesome that you all have been asking for. We are looking forward to joining the Seesmic team in this grand cohesive effort to bring you some real-deal, cutting edge applications.

Never fear! This move in Ping.fm's history is good for everyone. Our service is only going to get better. Joining Seesmic will grant us access to more resources for development and improvement as well as access to a kick-butt customer service team. And, for those of you developing on our API, you should also not worry. We will continue to support and update our API (that has over 100 active apps in production), and there will soon be a plugin architecture for Seesmic Windows and Seesmic Web. So you code smashers will have even more stuff to create!

We are very excited by this announcement, and we hope you are too. We want to give a ton of thanks to everyone involved with the Ping.fm project; including, but absolutely not limited to our investors Joi Ito (@joi), Reid Hoffman (@quixotic) and Mohamed Nanabhay (@mohamed).
New Friends, Better Connections

Hello again Pingland! We've come back again with some new stuff that you might take kindly to. Gonna keep this short and sweet, so prepare!

We've added two new sites to our arsenal. Everyone welcome Ning and MerchantCircle to the ever-growing list of unstoppable awesomeness.

For those who plan to add Ning, you can currently only add one site connection, but we are researching the best way to provide multiple sites support. This goes along with the other services that people want multiples of too. So, just know it's coming!

Aside from the new adds, we've improved connections with Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed. We've moved authentication over to OAuth for Twitter and Friendfeed.

For Facebook, we've moved the setup process over to Facebook Connect. You no longer have to add the Ping.fm Facebook app to connect your account and pages.

Awesome!

In lieu of keeping this short, we will leave you with that. We have incredible new stuff coming real soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Until next time,

Some of you have been already informed of our latest feature added to our menagerie of awesome. For those who have not, here it is.

Link stats!

That's right. If you are a fan of our URL shortener, and are familiar with it's antics, you will be glad to know that you can now track incoming statistics on the URLs you generate.

We track all sorts of cool information like link visits, unique visits, referrals and referral country origination. This is all presented to you in a fancy interface that let's you see how well your posted links are tracking with your social network audiences. We think it's pretty rad!

While we gather some feedback from you folks, we will be pondering other statistics you might want to see on your links and adding to the output every so often. You should totally give us a shout and put some bugs in our ears.

This is a user-opt in feature that you can turn on here.

If you're curious for more, you can read all about how this works right over heeeeere!

We have more stuff coming out soon, so keep on the lookout for forests full of unexplainable and ridiculous magic.

What does it all mean?

At around 11AM CDT, one of our database servers decided to take a leave of absence. What seemed like a routine "reboot and go" situation turned out to be much much worse than assumed.

We run daily snapshots of databases to ensure data integrity for situations like this. About 6 days ago, the backups started to crash out and not save properly.

This is bad for a few reasons: We dump backups for situations just like this. When we cant restore from last day's backup, it forces us to restore from an older one. We have to repeat that process until one takes and is restored successfully.

That being said. The last backup we had successfully post was 5 days ago (09.06.2009). Not cool at all.

While we have restored services, we are still working on restoring the last 5 days of data.

What's this mean for you?

New users within the last 5 days won't have an account anymore, any changes you've made to your services (i.e. updating passwords) will need to be reapplied, all short links posted in those 5 days will be invalid and redirect to the Ping.fm homepage and recent message lists will be behind 5 days.

Outside of the missing days, the service is back and running 100%. If you notice anything unusual with your account or posted messages, please shoot us a support e-mail (support@) and someone will be there to assist.

We apologize for these interruptions and are doing what we can to restore the missing data. You know us, we love to work! Check our Twitter feed for updates on things to come with this as well as the new stuff we are about to introduce into the pingosphere.

Cheers!

Plug In With Conduit (And More!)

We know it's been ages since our last fancy blog update. To be honest, we've been seriously busy beyond blogging. We've been hard at work increasing the ping power as well as adding some handy dandy new features.

So, first things first, let's talk about what we have new for you.

If you haven't noticed already, we've put some cool little banners up on the dashboard about a "Ping.fm Toolbar." For those of you wondering, yes it's the latest addition to our methods of posting. We've been working with Conduit, using their very cool toolbar creation platform to create a Ping.fm browser toolbar. Yes, now everyone that has been salivating over such feature can finally end the hunger pangs.

This toolbar is pretty slick. It's supported on Firefox, IE and Safari browsers. And, any time we feel like adding new stuff to it, the toolbar will automatically update without you having to download a new version. We think it's awesome!

For those of you already using other Conduit toolbars (like the CrunchBar), you can easily add the Ping.fm straight to the existing toolbar without downloading a new one.

If THAT interests you, head on over to the Conduit Marketplace and check check check that out. Search for Ping.fm in the Conduit Marketplace to see the dealies we've created.

We hope you enjoy what we've done with Conduit to further improve the giant we call Ping.fm. As always, if you have any questions or problems with the new toolbar, just drop us a line and let us know about it. Be sure to check the "Ping.fm Browser Toolbar" product too, so we know you're talking about it.

But wait! There's more! (R.I.P. Billy Mays):

We've added two new sites to the Ping.fm consortium!

Everyone welcome Yahoo Profiles (formerly Yahoo 360) and Tagged.

These are two services that we've had an immense amount of request for, and now it's done! So enjoy!

We promise not to wait so long for updates like this next time.

Enjoy the new,

Facebook Pages, Grooveshark & Metadata

We've officially launched support for <a href=http://facebook.com/" target="_blank">Facebook Pages. You can now add your Facebook fan pages as you would any other service we support. What does this mean to you? Well, if you're a business, artist, celebrity, public figure or any other entity that has a fan page for your people to come hang out with you on Facebook, then now you can not only update your Facebook profile status, but your messages will be syndicated to your fan page as well.

If you're still a bit lost, head on over to our fan page to see what they're all about.

In addition to this slick update, we've added some new message posting options to more personalize your posts. We're talking about tagging and mooding.

What, you say?!

Tons of users have asked for the ability to tag posts with tags they specify to help them catalog the posts on the various services they are using. We've done work, and now you can reap the benefits!

Tagging is now a part of your everyday pinging experience. Posting photos, links, blogs; if you post it, you can tag it. Click here to learn all there is to know about tagging your posts.

As well as tagging, be sure to check out how to also include mood tags in with posts. Now you can tell everyone how you feel with as little effort as possible (or something).

Last but not least, we bring you to a nice little gem we just added as of last night. With the vast improvements to the user dashboard we are rolling out, we decided to go ahead and sneak one of the updates into production so you can get busy with it.

We've added a new icon above the post form that resembles a music note. If you were to click this cute little button, you will be presented with a screen that allows you to attach songs to your messages you post. Cool huh?

Let us introduce you to Grooveshark. Grooveshark is this awesome web service that allows anyone and everyone to search for music and play it straight from their website. Their library is intense too. We've had quite a hard time not finding songs we want to hear. And the best part about their service is that it's FREE.

Yes, absolutely free. You don't even have to sign up to search and listen (though you probably should).

This is just a tip of the iceberg on the up and coming user dashboard improvements. So, you will be seeing more very soon.

Don't forget to tell your friends!

Be safe, and keep up the ping.
Today, Blip.fm announced their integration into our ever-growing-in-popularity developer API.

If you aren't familiar with Blip.fm, they are a social network similar to Twitter, only they allow you to post inline music with your updates (Check out Sean's Blip.fm page). It's a great concept and it's fun to use. You should check it out for sure.

With their integration, you can now post tracks from their interface and have them automatically pinged into the pingosphere with no effort at all.

Cool huh?

We think so!

Also, be sure to check out ShoutEm and StreetMavens (incidentally, a Tulsa-based site) as we now support posting messages to their services. Wee!

Keep in touch, pingites. We got more cool stuff coming soon.

Skype, Intl. SMS, HootSuite & Notify.me

It's been a little bit since we had one of these rad update blogs. So, here it is. This one will be extra special too. Not only are we announcing some new features, we're also announcing some really cool application integrations that have just hit the circuit.

First off, let me go into what's new at Ping.fm. We've taken two of the most requested features wanted by you guys and made them happen. Not saying that this will be all. This is just the tip of the up and coming iceberg monster of features we will be pouring out in the coming weeks. This is merely a sample of awesome!

First, we've ramped up our SMS services to now support posting SMS messages from inside of Europe. That's right, all you pingers from across the pond can now use an international number to ping your pingy goodness! We're sorry it took so long to get this rolling. We had to spend a lot of time researching the best way to make this happen. Luckily @DanLane came to the rescue and provided us an awesome solution for taking care of you guys. So, be sure to give him a tip and a follow for being so resourceful and technologically advanced. Hats off to you!

Second, we've created a Skype posting bot. Now, in addition to our army of other bots, you can add Skype to that list. Cool, huh?

Now that we've gone over what's new with us, let's talk about what's new with some other guys we've been working with.

Everyone, meet notify.me and HootSuite. These are some of the awesome new integrations we have on our developer API.

Why should you care? This is why!

HootSuite is the ultimate Twitter toolbox. With HootSuite, you can manage your entire Twitter experience from one easy-to-use interface. Pre-schedule your tweets, send updates from multiple accounts at once, track clicks with the ow.ly URL shortener, and much more.

To make things even sweeter, HootSuite is introducing integration with Ping.fm. Now the tweets you schedule with HootSuite can be automatically sent to your other social networking accounts via Ping.fm.

So, there you have it. HootSuite is incredible. And, no, they aren't paying for that plug!

So yeah, now let's talk about notify.me. One of the biggest requests from users is having the ability to feed in your social network timelines. With notify.me, your problems are pretty much solved.

notify.me has this crazy little app that allows you to syndicate any sort of feed from any type of source and have it stream back to you however you want. E-mail, IM, SMS, apps, widgets...anything you use regularly, you can have your updates delivered to it. Think of it like a digital paperboy, bringing all your internet goodness right to your eDoorstep. Lovely, isn't it?

With all of this being said, you should gear up and check these guys out. I know you're all about the latest and greatest and they've definitely hit the nail on the head.

Thanks to @GeraldBuckley and his office space hook up, we are in prime time feature-crank-out mode and will be flooding the pingosphere with awesome awesome.

Yeah, that's right, awesome awesome.

Stick around pingers, it's starting to get real good.
