Its Monday again so let Pink Mist awaken you from the weekend’s adventures. Please meet Australia’s Förstöra. Based in Perth, Förstöra play heavy, urgent hardcore that’s unrelenting and addictive. Having just released their debut album via Bird’s Robe Records in Australia, the band have put together a video for lead track ‘One Last Stand’ that Pink Mist have the pleasure of premiering over here in the UK. As you can see, their live shows are tense and exhilarating, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed that they head over to play some shows in the UK soon.

Brighton’s Bearded Youth Quest play intricate, pretty but intense instrumental music. With the exception of a few gang vocals to shake you awake, the band let the melodies and space between the instruments do the talking. This track ‘Banana Flip Flop’ is from an older EP release, but has been revamped and titivated here in a live session for the brilliant Small Pond Recordings - who you may know as the guys responsible for some of that kick ass live footage from last year’s ArcTanGent Festival.

BYQ are playing a highly anticipated show with our very own Axes at the Hope and Ruin in Brighton tomorrow night (12th March) and you’d be a fool to miss it if you happen to live by the sea. Watch the band in action and see you at the gig.

Rolo Tomassi are back, armed with a brilliant, brand new album ‘Grievances’, set for release on Pink Mist’s Holy Roar Records (the band’s first ever record label 10 years ago) on June 1st. ‘Grievances’ was recorded and mixed by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House, Southampton, and is the band’s 4th studio album.

Look out for a special live, launch event happening around week of release as well.

On top of all of this, Feb 18th 2015 (TODAY!) also marks Rolo Tomassi’s exact 10th year anniversary as a band. To celebrate, Eva and James Spence went through their back catalogue and personal histories of being in Rolo Tomassi with The Independent which you can view HERE

From Eva (Spence): “At 10 years in I feel more enthused than ever with where we’re at as a band. With ‘Grievances’, we followed on from the sound we developed on ‘Astraea’ and pushed that even more so to make an album we’re all really proud of and which I consider to be our best material to date.”

James (Spence): “Creatively we wanted to do something ambitious and took our time in making sure the material was right. We tried new ways of writing including collaborating with other musicians for the first time to make sure we could capture the feel we wanted on this record. The Ranch provided the ideal location to make this happen and having worked with him last year on our single ‘Adrasteia’, we jumped at the chance to work with Lewis again who has really brought it all to life with his production.”

‘Grievances’ track-listing:
01. Estranged / 02. Raumdeuter / 03. The Embers
04. Prelude III (Phantoms) / 05. Opalescent / 06. Unseen and Unknown
07. Stage Knives / 08. Crystal Cascades / 09. Chandelier Shiver
10. Funereal / 11. All That Has Gone Before

Festivals confirmed for 2015 so far include Takedown, ArcTanGent plus more to be announced.

Undoubtedly one of the most inventive and unique bands to grace UK screamo and hardcore, Maths are finally back after a four year hiatus. Brand new EP ‘The Fires Courting The Sea’ is to be released on 12” (limited edition grey / black /white marble) via our very own Tangled Talk Records this spring.

Having previously received great acclaim with debut album Descent in 2009, The Fires Courting The Sea marks a turning point for Maths, with each track lyrically representing just that – pinpointing poignant moments in lead vocalist Zen Zsigo’s personal life. Whilst Descent and Ascent (2011) dealt with themes such as adolescence and surviving the negative things that go hand in hand with it, The Fires Courting The Sea peers at life through adult eyes, looking back with nostalgia and the maturity of knowing that those bad parts were important. Zen Zsigo undeniably delivers his most moving lyrical work to date, whilst the band encapsulates his throat-shredding vocals within a cathartic torrent of scattered riffs and furious drive.

A self-confessed long and convoluted process, Maths worked on the EP for a year, every instrument recorded in a different space at a different time, and produced completely by the band themselves. The result is an explosive and incredibly technical record, teeming with dynamism and a new found vivacity.

Punktastic are premiering the new track HERE and if you like what you hear (you will) click HERE to pre-order. The album is out on 23rd March.

Tracklisting

1. Child Wandering Along The Thames
2. The Fires Courting The Sea
3. Last Night Silhouette
4. The Water is the Colour of the Sky
5. Laughter Stirs the Canyon
6. Outside the Window

Having just thrust their rather exciting debut album ‘Everything Else Matters’ at us, this uber cool five piece from St Petersburg recently released a kung fu inspired video in support of one of the album’s most stand out tracks. Russian renegades Pinkshinyultrablast like mixing up genres and ‘Holy Forest’ is no exception. We get bit of shoegaze, math, grunge, electro, punk and pure pop thrown in the mix for this one, and the result is a soaring, heady cacophony. Listen below.

This Chicago three-piece have intrigued us for a while. Describing themselves as ‘intrepid questers of new’, Yeesh have previously released an eclectic debut cassette and follow up EP, via visits through various punked up genres, with the band landing comfortably in a new territory. The guys are releasing their debut full length ‘No Problem’ through Already Dead Tapes & Records on 17th March, and you can pre-order the vinyl or digital versions here. Being kind fellows that they are, the band have graciously given Pink Mist readers something to whet their appetites with in the form of lead single ‘Slip’. A instantly satisfying track about wanting to get out of the routine of constant partying by moving on and growing up. A track steeped in regret and slacker whimsy, but with a determination make changes. We think its killer, and hope you do too.

Boston trio Krill are streaming ‘Foot’, taken from their forthcoming album A Distant Fist Unclenching, released February 16th 2015 via Steak Club and our very own Blood and Biscuits. A wiry and feverish listen, the track is a lyrically compelling exploration of desire, backed by typically unpredictable yet controlled songwriting.

The forthcoming album A Distant Fist Unclenching is Krill’s most considered release so far, however it never loses the idiosyncrasies that have seen the band praised from the likes of Pitchfork, NME and BBC 6Music. Across its nine songs, the albums existential examinations tread the fine line between complete control and unravelling anxiety.

Having toured the US extensively, playing shows with the likes of Deerhoof, Speedy Ortiz, Big Ups and The Thermals, Krill begin their first ever European tour on February 23rd.
