I look forward to this conference every year as a way to meet new people & stay connected with our clients who come from all over the country. I am also still doing photography of my own as well, so the presentations are invaluable. After these two days I am always so pumped to get home and work on my businesses.

I didn't bring a camera (ha!) but Kenny Kim did and here's the three of us hanging out. Thanks for the photo Kenny!

Kenny is the man. He's also very good at documenting events & just finished touring with DJ in the Freedom Bus. Check out his blog here.

Design Inspired by Fashion

At pink penny we love clean designs that showcase the beautiful imagery we get to work with each day. We're always looking for inspiration and often find it in the pages of our favorite fashion magazines. These are two layouts I'd like to try and translate into wedding book designs soon (minus all the text of course)

This could especially work with bridal portraits

And I like the positioning of the small vertical images on the left across from a full bleed on the right.

It's fun finding these bits of inspiration and the challenge to produce fresh but timeless design keeps us on our toes. Where do you find inspiration?

Album Samples Anyone?

We have had a few photographers want album designs for sample albums that either show off their best work or a sample of what an album will look like for a bride. It is a good way to show off those albums and possibly get some brides to purchase. This month, amongst all the designs we have had come in, I have had the pleasure to design samples for Kristen Beinke Photography, Michael + Anna Costa as well as Matt Hall Photography.

For those of you who might have never seen a Queensberry matted album that we do, here are a few pics to give you an idea. These books are beautiful and are very massive in size. They are art forms of the photographers work. We love them and the brides are very much in love with them as well!

This a 12"x12" book with a left and right foldout which when opened like this measures to be 48"across! That is 4' across!

No, our blog is not dead : ) We're just so busy that sometimes we forget..okay, for four months we forgot that we had a blog. But today is a new day, and we're really going to try and get better at posting our new designs and other fun things.

Pictage's PartnerCon LA was great this year! All the speakers we heard were excellent, and there was so much good info about business, time management and also ways to improve your photography skills. I got to hear:

Chris Humphreys - all about photography techniques that can make your images really stand out.

Lauren Hillary - she said she wanted to be published and within a year she was. She gave some great tips on how to get your work out there.

Davina Fear - how to have a family and a business and do both successfully. This woman is full of energy and her presentation was so inspiring! Yay for Davina.

Amber & Nathan Holritz - Time Management. They have it down and it was a good refresher to hear how they do it and how we can improve.

David Jay - always a favorite because I can hear him speak about the same thing 10 times and always get something out of it, and he's a friend. This time he presented on a new topic: winning on the web through your website and really showing your clients who you are. He's in development on a new tool called showit sites that I am very excited about...

Robert Evans - an amazing photographer with an amazing perspective on shooting and the wedding day!

Kevin Swan - if you know him you know he does a lot. His own photography, KISS albums, a family, and I'm sure a lot of other things. He broke down a concept called "GTD" inspired by the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. Its the next book I'm buying..I'll let you know what I think!

Bob Davis - the master of using his Canon 580's at weddings to create great lighting. His demo was excellent - I never knew my flash could so much! Maybe now I will read the manual ; )

If you are a member of Pictage I would highly recommend making it out to their next conference which is going to be in Las Vegas immediately following WPPI. I will have a 1 mo. old baby at that time so I'll probably have to miss out, but you shouldn't! I'm sure it is going to be great.

We had a great time at WPPI this year in Las Vegas! It was my first year, but I'm definitely looking forward to next year. We met some great photographers and got to catch up with some old friends. If you weren't there, put it on your calendar for next year. pink penny might even throw a party!

Here's an album I have had the pleasure of working on for Blake of Blake Photography. Not only did I get to design the album, I also was able to be one of the second shooters for Blake. It was a great wedding and a lot of fun being able to shoot again.

We just finished adding all the bride and groom's favorites to this album - the final book has 103 images and is 54 sides.

Queensberry does these awesome flip pages, where one or both sides of a page flip out to reveal more photos underneath. We used flip pages twice in this album; I especially like the cake series, where you see the beginning and the end, then you open the pages to see what happened inbetween.
