Bridal Fashion Brings Home the Gold!

As the sweltering summer heat bares down upon us, there are some folks that are already looking towards fall, and the season's latest trends within the wedding industry.

Last October, fashionistas, designers, publicists and media all gathered in New York for the annual Bridal Fashion Week, and this time the focus was on the upcoming Fall 2012 fashion season trends. Who knew it would be Gold?

Almost all of the wedding gown designers (including Vera Wang) featured a gown with just a hint of gold all the way to complete saturation of the metallic color. Fabulous!

Just when you think you know all there needs to be known about planning a wedding, check out the colorful and latest trends (did I mention COLOR?) for 2012!.

From the china in colorful, new bold patterns, to a 'royal' wedding palette of Tiffany blue, teal and gold, and even decadent Tiffany blue cupcakes, there is definitely something for everyone !

While most of your traditional weddings will usually have

wedding cakes at the reception - one for the bride and one for the groom -

nowadays other 'cakes' are becoming a popular trend, and for different reasons.

The past year or so, brought cupcakes to the forefront of wedding trends, offering guests an easy and convenient way to taste both cakes. As a less expensive alternative to the massive tiered cake, serving cupcakes at the reception seemed to be ideal.

This spring however, a new trend is 'popping' up for wedding receptions.

New Ways to Top Your Tables this Spring!

What bride doesn't want her wedding day details to be unique and special, just like she is?!

Well, a darling idea came to me from one of my favorite wedding sources, 'The Knot', showing a cute and creative (and easy-peasy!) way to craft those pesky table numbers for your reception tables! So simple, why didn't I think of it?

Here's the low-down for this clever little idea...

Painted Table Numbers

Take chip board or wooden numbers that can be found in a variety of sizes, at your local crafts store, and paint each either white, or one of your wedding colors. When dry, attach (we used wood glue for ours) to patterned paper and set inside pre-painted wooden frames to mark each table.

Experiencing Your Event...

Recently, I was telling one of my brides all about the importance of carrying one design, or theme, all the way through her wedding - from beginning to end. Whether it be a monogram or a flourish design, the continuity of the element is important, in order to tie the entire experience together for the guests.

Apparently I was spot on. I ran across a similar article written by event planner, Amy Zaroff, of Amy Zaroff Events + Design. It goes like this:

"You’re Invited! The Guests’ Experience Starts with the Arrival of the Invitation

Who among us doesn’t love getting a beautiful invitation in the mail? The anticipation and excitement as you make your way from the mailbox, oohing and ahhing over the calligraphy, admiring how the stamp so perfectly coordinates with the envelope and feeling like a child as you eagerly wonder who it could possibly have come from.

All of these feelings further the notion that setting the tone of an event through a great invitation is a sure way to get people thinking about the festivities and looking forward to being part of an amazing experience.

As I have said before, all events should have a distinct beginning, middle and end. Thinking of the invitation as the start of the guest experience forces the planner to choose styles, themes and motifs that will be carried through the event from the time the invitation is opened all the way through guest departures.

Placecards, table numbers, personalized napkins, menus and favor tags can all coordinate with the invitation. Instead of using the same design throughout, taking a flourish, a font style, a color or a portion of the most pronounced design element and including that in each of the various pieces will create a familiar feel for guests while continuing to peak their interest throughout the time they spend with you.

The weight and texture of the paper you choose can also add to the tone of the event. While a heavier paper or one with texture is often desired, it is possible to create incredible visual texture through graphics that pop, allowing the budget to stay in tact while still accomplishing a powerful statement.

At a time when paper is becoming passé, it is more important than ever to continue the time-honored tradition of the art of the written (or printed) word.

Take the time and care to plan the printed pieces that will communicate your event carefully and you are sure to receive rave reviews and excited guests as they can’t wait to see what more is to come!"

Fragrance your Wedding?

One of my favorite life-stylists, Colin Cowie, talks about a wonderful way to create extra ambiance at a wedding, through fragrance. It's a great way to stamp your 'signature' all over your wedding, and allow your guests one more way to enjoy the event!

Colin says "Selecting a fragrance for your wedding day is one of the most important details in creating lasting memories. It's a very personal choice and one you should make with great care. Once you've determined your wedding perfume, consider wrapping yourself in the accompanying shower gel, shampoo and body lotion. This an emerging trend of layering fragrances that's gaining momentum. Maybe there's also a soap or hand cream. Each layer adds a soft, light veil of fragrance to your skin.

"This is a key point and one to keep in mind, simply because you're layering one singular fragrance doesn't mean you'll overpower your guests and groom. Each layer should be a hint, a subtle suggestion of fragrance."

The Romantic Ranch Wedding...Part 3

Now for the REST of the romantic Star Hill Ranch wedding story!

The bride's family were all together at last,

when Meagan's sisters arrived, it was a blast!....

The next day 'Green Pastures' held the Bridesmaids Lunch,

where the setting was fabulous, with lots to munch...

Then it was a rehearsal dinner with time to boast,

at Maudie's Tex-Mex in Austin....

...where Dad gave his 'toast'!

The wedding day finally arrived...

and so did the guests!

'Pretty little (brides)maids all in a row',

each one ready to do her best...

Next came the children carrying the signs...

They were so precious, I wish they were MINE!

Big brother was ring bearer and the one with the curl....

She was big sister, and Meagan's flower girl!

Now it was time- the moment was here....

Dad walked his daughter down, trying hard not to tear...

To Mom, who was waiting, for one more hug, so dear...

The Arbor, was where Dustin stood...

So, Dad 'gave her away' as only a daddy could.

Family photos that were taken after the ceremony were great...

The Romantic Ranch Wedding - Part 2

One of the best parts about being a wedding designer,

is that sometimes you get to travel to new locations

and work sites you might not see otherwise.

That is, if the wedding is not held locally.

This was just the case for me last week when I traveled

to Star Hill Ranch outside of Austin, Texas.

I felt like I had stepped back in time, into the show,"Gunsmoke"!

There just aren't enough words to describe this place, but I'll try:

VERY cool, Texas, rustic charm, western, historic, authentic, new,

beautiful, unique, rural, Texas-friendly....are you getting the picture?

A Romantic Ranch Wedding...

We're just two weeks away from the wonderful ranch wedding of Meagan Rogers and Dustin Wilson. This cute couple have been nothing short of delightful to work with, and I can't wait to see them 'get hitched'!

So for an introduction to what will undoubtedly be a very cool and chic wedding, with a Texas twist, I thought I'd post a photo or two of what's to come, starting with this adorable invitation set...
