What happens when Doctor to the Stars Vicki Belo comes face to face with Betty Pengson? Well, that’s what fans of the top rating series I Love Betty La Fea are waiting with baited breath for.

With Betty (Bea Alonzo) dreaming of revenge towards Armando Solis (John Lloyd Cruz) by winning a free cosmetic surgery package in a “beauty” contest, who else would be perfect to play godmother to TV’s ugly duckling but Dra. Belo herself. “This was the idea of Deo (Endrinal, Business Unit Head of I Love Betty La Fea). Ever since the beginning of the teleserye alam niyang may papasok na doctor na magpapaganda kay Betty. Sabi niya sa akin ‘Ikaw na ang magiging doctor!’ So thank you kay Deo at palagi niya akong naiisip. Ito lang naman din ang kaya ko to play myself on screen. Hindi ako marunong umarte (laughs). But I’m open to new experiences like kung paano mag-deliver ng lines. Most of the time kailangan mo ulitin because of the mistakes,” Dra. Vicki happily shared to ABS-CBN.com during her first taping day on the show.

Being in a profession that values precision and perfection, Dr. Vicky was very critical of her own performance in the scene she did with Bea Alonzo, Pooh, and Candy Pangilinan. “I’m very stiff and nervous when I was delivering my lines because it’s not something I am used to. But enjoy naman siya because now I know Betty is the most supportive co-actor because when you’re talking to her mafi-feel mo talaga ‘yung emotions. Ngayon ko lang naintindihan ‘yung meaning ng ‘supportive co-actor’ because they really coached me, sina Bea, Pooh, and Candy.”

The famous cosmetic surgeon confessed that she herself felt what it’s like to be in Betty’s shoes. “That’s why I became a cosmetic surgeon. When I was young I was very fat. I used to weigh a hundred pounds when I was a kid. All my life I was fat so I saw how people treat you differently because you’re mataba. Nung teenager pa ako ang dami ko pang taghiyawat sa mukha. Every week akong pumupunta sa dermatologist. Doon ko pinlano kung anong gagawin ko sa buhay ko. I’m going to make people with bad skin look better, make fat people skinny. You will only live this life once and if you’re going to live it mas maigi na ‘yung maganda kaysa pangit.”

When asked what she would advice people who are considering going under the knife, Dra. Belo said it is important for them to invest in a very good surgeon. “If I were them I would save all my money and then go to a very good doctor the first time. Ang nangyayari kasi kadalasan is kapag kulang ng pera pupunta sila sa doctor na bago, wala masyadong experience, mas mura. Nasisira tuloy. The best thing is i-save niyo na lang ‘yung pera ninyo then pumunta na kayo sa magaling na doctor.”

In "I Love Betty La Fea" episode 88, Betty auditioned for a makeover contest so she can help financially for the heart operation of her father. When she also becomes beautiful, she is dreaming of revenge to those people who made her life miserable, as well as make Armando pay for his ultimate betrayal. There is a scene in Episode 88 where we see a teaser of her future transformation to "Beautiful Betty". Well, she's still wearing her prominent big glasses, bangs, and brace, so the audiences won't be spoiled right away. However I'm sure she won't look like Bea Alonzo in her "Betty La Bella" persona! Certified doktora pala ang bagong dagdag na character sa Betty La Fea na si Maricar Reyes. Pero hangga’t maaari, ayaw niya sanang pag-usapan ang kanyang propesyon lalo na nga’t nag-uumpisa pa lang ang career niya. May pilitan factor pang nangyari bago niya idinitalye ang kanyang pagiging doktora. HUNKY men who cook— you see more and more of them on TV and the movies—are edging out our stereotype image of chefs (there’s the classic taba in your favorite restaurant in Chinatown) and trotting out dishes that are as chewy and delectable as their abs. Are the best dishes served on TV today? Maybe. Too bad you can’t taste them.

Now comes a twist to on-TV dinners: dishes that come to life from your favorite program on TV.

“I Love Betty la Fea,” the soap opera on ABS-CBN Channel 2, has inspired Bacolod Chicken Inasal (BCI) to create a new style of chicken barbecues that Betty would love to eat with gusto, without straining her fake designer bag and “Eco Moda” meals (named for the advertising agency where she works) that her bosses John Lloyd Cruz and Ruffa Gutierrez would spend on, given their big representation allowance.

If you’re puzzled about what I’m talking about, tune in to Channel 2 at 8:30 p.m., after “Dyosa” (“Dyosa”? Are we muddling it further for you?) on weekdays. But before you do, let me tell you what: Two of the best reasons for viewing “I Love Betty la Fea” are 1) Watching how the lovely Bea Alonzo, as Betty La Fea survives her bad hairdo and clothes, her thickened eyebrows and teeth braces and gives a credible performance and 2) Watching how Ruffa Gutierrez can be the most beautiful villainess ever created on TV.

How about the meals designed after the show? Taste them for yourself. BCI has come up with “Betty-friendly” bbquitos (small barbecues) that Pinoys love to eat on the sidewalks. “We went sampling all the well-known barbecue places in Manila and Cebu and the provinces,” says Bing Tanalgo, chef of BCI, “and we came to know that basically, Filipinos love in their barbecues the sweetish and spicy taste and the reddish or orangey look; not to mention, of course, the easy-on-the-pocket price.”

BCI has thus created the appetizing and budget-friendly Bbiquitos—the Chiquito (chicken), Ataquito (atay or liver), Batiquito (chicken satay, liver and gizzard), Porquito (pork), Isolquito (pork, liver, tail) and Batiquito (pork, liver and tail)—that you can order in combos with garlic rice and a 12-oz glass of iced tea thrown in.

I’ve sampled these Bbquitos at BCI’s newest branch at the Fastbytes Square in Filinvest Northgate in Alabang (surrounded by buildings housing call centers), and I’m sure that budget-watcher Betty would loosen her purse strings for them. It’s also the favorite of the call-center zombies who keep BCI open 24 hours everyday. But would her bosses at Eco Moda go for the more “sophisticated” meals BCI has designed for them?

These sophisticated meals are the Pollo Galantina, a quarter of chicken stuffed with meat, cheese and vegetables served with gravy; and the Liempo Sabroso, a no-fry pork dish infused with lemon grass and onion flavors with a dip and relish of tomatoes and onions.

The Pollo Galantina is a Tanalgo family heirloom recipe that would delight Ruffa Gutierrez’s Daniela if she had an old-family history backing up her pedigree and palate. (The show does not suggest as much; local TV dramas seldom bother with in-depth characterizations.) Ruffa’s character notwithstanding, the galantina is the best thing you can have for an everyday meal outside of fiestas and the Christmas holidays.

The Liempo (pork belly) is an unexpected matter: It’s roasted, not fried. Roasted (“Healthier,” says Tanalgo, and true enough), however, does not taste as good as deep-fried, in the good old, if unhealthy, way. BCI’s roasted liempo may take some getting used to.

Previously, Bacolod Chicken Inasal tied up with another popular ABS-CBN teleserye, Ysabella, which starred Judy Ann Santos as the chef whose restaurant was famous for its chicken dish called “Kinasal na Manok,” which BCI and ABS-CBN’s food stylist developed. That dish became known in all BCI branches as “Ysabella Chicken,” prepared with multi-regional ingredients including the little-known tabon-tabon, a hard nut indigenous to Camiguin and Cagayan de Oro, commonly used in these places in their kinilaw. It has remained one of the popular dishes in BCI even after the end of the Ysabella series.

Betty La Fea’s bibiquitos, if not Daniela’s liempo, may likewise endure longer than the teleserye, enjoyed by viewers long after Betty sheds her wig and braces and becomes the dish that she is. It only has to keep itself on the level of good old reliable mass taste.

Manila Bulletin technology editor Art Samaniego calls it the "Betty la Fea of the mobile phone industry."

In an interview on ANC's Tech Talk, Samaniego said the new T-Mobile G1 could be likened to the fictional character Betty la Fea because "it looks ugly but what's really important is what's inside."

The description, of course, is remarkably apt. At first glance, the G1 loses pogi points for lack of design originality especially when placed side-by-side to the more futuristic-looking Apple iPhone. It also loses points for functionality because the phone's "chin" or the bottom part of the handset actually hampers the right hand of the user when typing on the sliding QWERTY keyboard.

"HTC or Google could have raised the bar by making a prettier phone but they failed to grab the opportunity," says Samaniego.

Samaniego, however, points out that what the G1 loses in beauty, it more than makes up for in ease of use.

For starters, the G1 uses the same glass capacitive touchscreen first used on the iPhone, which discards the need for a stylus. It also discards the need for a password to open the phone by allowing the phone user to set a pass pattern to activate the phone.

The G1 is also the first mobile phone to use the Android Operating System developed by Google. Like any PC running the best of Google applications, the G1 has pre-installed software apps such as GMail, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Talk and a YouTube video player.

Samaniego says the G1 also earns extra points for not creating folders within folders for the different apps, unlike some phones running on Windows Mobile OS.

He also points out that G1 users can download various applications to the phone for free unlike other phones where every additional application has to be purchased.

More importantly, he says more handset makers such as Sony Ericsson, Vodafone Group Plc and Samsung Electronics are embracing the Android mobile device platform.

According to Samaniego, the G1 phone could soon be made available to Filipinos by a local telco.

HTC Philippines country manager Mark Sergio earlier said the company is still considering various ways to market the Android phones once they are formally unveiled locally.

Betty La Fea Finally Meets the Beautiful Bea Alonzo

There was an episode before in I Love Betty La Fea where Betty was eager to see the 4G endorser Bea Alonzo in person but Hugo didn't permit Betty to go with him to the commercial shooting. Well, not so soon, Betty's dream to meet Bea Alonzo herself finally came true. However that rare encounter never happened in the actual series, as it was just a VTR Promo for 4G antioxidant product shown in ASAP '08, originally known as simply A.S.A.P. (All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party) is a Philippine noontime variety show aired every Sunday.

Here are the other trivia happened in International "Betty La Fea" of the actors who portrayed themselves, have multiple roles in the series, or have crossed over with other Bettys.

Mario Duarte (Nicolás Mora) portrayed himself in an episode in Yo soy Betty, la fea
In La fea más bella, Sergio Mayer (Luigi Lombardi) portrayed himself in a couple episodes that took place at a performance of "Solo Para Mujeres," a live stage show featuring male celebrities dancing like the men of Chippendales. Eduardo Rodrigues, who would later appear as Galo Rivera in some of the "Vidas de Fuego" scenes on "Ugly Betty," and who would also appear in an episode of LFMB as Aurora's boyfriend Lalo, was a member of the "Solo Para Mujeres" troupe.
Angélica Vale appeared in the first-season finale of "Ugly Betty" as a character named Angélica, who looked exactly like the pre-makeover Lety. In the episode, Betty had to visit her orthodontist's office, where Angélica worked as a dental assistant.
In one episode of La fea más bella, Mariana Seoane not only played her character, Carla Santibañez, but she also appear of ed as herself, singing at an event to celebrate the launch of Aldo's gastronomic tourism idea. During Seoane's performance, Carla makes some slightly disparaging remarks about the singer's style to Fernando, then Omar mentions to Fernando that Mariana and Carla look exactly the same.
"Ugly Betty" producer Salma Hayek appears as a maid on the telenovela that the Suarez family watches. Later became Sofia, a popular author of books that help to empower women and recruited Betty to join her company.
In "Ugly Betty", Ruthie was the Assistant Editor of MYW magazine, working directly under the publication's Editor-in-Chief, Sofia Reyes. She's played by none other than Becki Newton, known also as Amanda, the Mode receptionist. Becki Newton (Amanda) also played Fey in some early 1980s flashback scenes and still photographs.
On July 10, 2008, Angeliki Daliani ("Maria, I Asximi"), Veerle Baetens ("Sara"), and Nyncke Beekhuyzen ("Lotte") appeared at Roma Fiction Fest to participate in a celebration of "Yo soy Betty, la fea" and all of its international incarnations. The event, entitled "Fenomenale Betty", took an in-depth look at the cultural impact of the show's various incarnations and their effect on pop culture worldwide. Fernando Gaitán, creator of the original telenovela also appeared, along with representatives of other versions, such as Marianna Cortes McAllister, who was responsible for adapting Spain's "Yo soy Bea", and Michael Esser, who wrote Germany's "Verliebt in Berlin". In I Love Betty La Fea Episode 49, Daniella is seen watching a telenovela on TV with real-life Filipino actresses Princess Punzalan and Jacklyn Jose. I never imagined that diva is also hooked on Telenovelas just like Ignacio, father of Betty in US Ugly Betty where he loves telenovelitas (fake novelas). But in I Love Betty La Fea, it's an actual episode from the old TV series titled Mula Sa Puso (From the Heart), topbilled by Claudine Barreto and late Rico Yan. Macario accidentally sets the Pengsons’ house on fire while he was looking for the original financial report inside Betty’s room. Though he merely comes up with Betty’s resumé, Daniella feels contented at the mayhem he created instead. As for Betty, she risks her life by saving the pertinent papers of Eco Moda, gets crushed by the falling debris, and ends up in a hospital where Marcella is also confined.

Armando has just visited Marcella at her ward when he learns about Betty’s accident from her brother, Andrew. But aside from the danger she went through for the sake of the company’s copy of assets, Armando also unearths Betty’s deepest secrets through her diary lying alongside the financial report. There he retraces Betty’s encounters and impressions of him and their work in Eco Moda.

If Armando realizes Betty’s worth after reading her emotional account of her life, it still remains to be seen. But what’s important for now is that Armando takes it upon himself to look after Betty while she’s still in the hospital. There’s even a hilarious point where he, Jeremy, and Nicholas happen to meet in Betty’s room looking as if the three of them are vying for her attention.

Tension rises though when Armando and Betty bumps into Marcella who angrily blames the two of them for the ugly scars on her face brought about by her second suicide attempt. How will Marcella plan to take her revenge against them? Will she conspire with Daniella’s latest evil scheme?

Marcella still can’t believe how Armando easily dumped her so she confronts him again in his condo. When things didn’t turn the way she wanted it to be, she rushes to the street and lets herself be hit by a car. But not even such drastic measures can change Armando’s mind. Luckily for her, the accident has caused her minor injuries save for the bruises on her face. Though it was all Marcella’s fault, Daniella insists to put the blame on both Armando and Betty. She even grabs at Betty’s hair the instant she saw her at the office.

Adding to her fury is the fact that Armando came up with a financial report that deterred the board from considering a loan that’s supposed to destroy Armando’s credibility. Daniella believes that Betty has a hand again on that financial report so she persuades Macario to trail after her. Then she later turns up at the Pengson’s house offering her sincere apologies to Betty. But the latter calls her bluff knowing full well that Daniella is up to no good.
