PBB Unlimited Popularity Poll Update: Seiichi leads the pack

Japinoy housemate Seiichi Ushimi is leading our Popularity Poll of this season's Pinoy Big Brother.

As of January 25, 2012, the funny and high-spirited housemate has already amassed more than 3,000 votes. It is roughly 33% of the total votes received by our Top 14 housemates, making him by far the most popular housemate this season by a wide margin.

On the second place is the Captain's daughter, Tin Patrimonio. The aloof and reserved housemate got more than 900 votes or 9.49% of the total votes received. Following her on the third place is the first openly lesbian housemate Divine Maitland-Smith of Cebu, whose 760 votes translates to 7.97%.

Close in the fourth spot is Pamu Pamorada with 733 votes (7.69%) and fifth is the controversial Biggel who earned 709 votes.

Apart from Seiichi, the other thirteen housemates are relatively in a tight fight. However it is interesting to note that Joya Genzola has remained the least popular housemate, with only 52 votes.

'Walang Hanggan' is now the most watched primetime show in Mega Manila (Jan. 20-23, 2012)

Aside from topping the national survey, ABS-CBN's newest drama offering Walang Hanggan is now the most watched primetime program, dethroning erstwhile leader Munting Heredera.

However, Eat Bulaga on GMA has remained daytime's number one show, trumping its rivals from ABS-CBN and GMA.

Emile Hirsch is Sean in 'The Darkest Hour' 3D

Emile Hirsch plays Sean, an upstart young software developer dispatched to Moscow, where he’s caught in the middle of an alien invasion in Chris Gorak’s The Darkest Hour.

Filmed on location in and around Moscow, the movie picks up the action in immersive 3D, after an alien attack. It follows Hirsch’s Sean and a ragtag group of survivors made up of actors Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Max Minghella as they move around the city trying to hide from the invaders, who are cloaked in darkness.

A lifelong fan of science fiction, Hirsch cites “The Matrix” as his favorite sci-fi film, and worked with directors Larry and Andy Wachowski on “Speed Racer.” It was this love of the genre that drew him to “The Darkest Hour.”

Q: Who do you play in THE DARKEST HOUR?
A: I play a guy called Sean, who’s with his buddy Ben, played by Max Minghella. They’re software designers and they both come to Moscow to pitch a website that they’ve come up with. The deal goes badly and this shady Swedish businessman, played by Joel Kinnaman, dupes them. They’re at a bar nursing their wounds over a couple of beers and then suddenly, there’s this crazy invasion of aliens.

Q: What grabbed you about the script?
A: It seemed like a mixed genre movie, in the sense that it’s sci-fiction but there are also elements of horror and suspense. There are bits and pieces of “Jaws” and “28 Days Later.” Also, after AVATAR, which was one of the greatest movie going experiences I’ve ever had, I remember walking out of the theater and saying, “The next movie I make, I want to make it in 3D.” I wanted to be a part of the wave of the future, in a sense.

Q: Does it change the language of the performance you give, to deliver it in 3D?
A: Not for me. I know it does for the camera guys but we had a really sophisticated camera crew; They’re the same guys who made “Avatar.” It was fun because they had familiar American voices while we were far away in Moscow and that was comforting sometimes.

Q: How have you been enjoying shooting on location in Moscow?
A: Where I’m from in Los Angeles, people don’t really talk about Moscow and it isn’t a city that is visited by the people I know but I think that was also something that, when I read the script, offered a different angle. It was such an unfamiliar environment, so to set a story like this in a place that was alien to me made it a lot more interesting. It makes for a really exotic backdrop.

Q: You worked with Chris Gorak on “Lords of Dogtown” when he was a production designer. How have his talents transferred into directing?
A: I think that, in the case of Chris, he’s worked with so many amazing filmmakers in the capacity of being an art director and a production designer: Spielberg, Fincher, all these incredible directors, getting to work alongside them. He’s a very thoughtful and articulate guy. He takes his time. He’s not an egotist; he’s a sensitive artist. It’s really nice working on a movie like this with a director like him because if he were different I think it would make for a different kind of challenge.

Hirsch’s career on the big screen began in 2002, when he starred as Francis Doyle in Peter Care’s “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.” It was a performance that put him immediately on the map and led to a string of challenging roles in independent cinema.

In 2004, he was introduced to Hollywood audiences starring as Matthew Kidman, the high school student who discovers he has a porn star neighbour, in “The Girl Next Door.” Alongside Elisha Cuthbert, Hirsch drew impressive reviews for the role and became one of America’s most exciting young performers in the process.

A steadfast refusal to be typecast ensured a remarkable list of credits to follow; the young actor has worked with high-profile directors including Sean Penn, Gus van Sant and Ang Lee. It is with Penn that he has collaborated most, both as a co-star in “Milk” and as the lead in Penn’s Oscar-nominated directorial effort Into The Wild” where Hirsh took the lead role and was nominated for a Screen Actors’ Guild award for Best Actor.

“The Darkest Hour” (3D) opens January 25 nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Kim Chiu covers Maven magazine, What's next with Xian Lim?

Primetime superstar Kim Chiu is looking gorgeous in the upcoming February to March 2012 issue of Maven magazine.

The actress has just wrapped up her primetime teleserye My Binondo Girl where she made a phenomenal team-up with hunky actor Xian Lim.The new kilig team-up has proven Kim's star power, and gave her the leverage as one of ABS-CBN's most important star.

In My Binondo Girl, Kim was partnered for the first time with another actor from the Kapamilya stable, after being the half of the successful loveteam with Gerald Anderson for several years..

ABS-CBN definitely hit a goldmine with Kimxi, the name of their loveteam, as the team-up has now won the hearts of many viewers , earning now a huge fanbase.

And from the success of the team-up, Kim and Xian deserves a follow-up project.

'Walang Hanggan' tops primetime nationwide (Jan. 20-23, 2012)

ABS-CBN's new powerhouse teleserye, Walang Hanggan, is now the new primetime leader. The Coco Martin-Julia Montes starrer topped the nationwide survey on its premiere week.

Meanwhile, Rated K and Maalaala Mo Kaya maintained their lead in weekend primetime, further solidifying the network's national primetime supremacy.

Rogue and Speed magazines unveiled their recent covers for January to February 2012.

KC Concepcion, 26, almost showed her butt in her recent cover with Rogue. She has already graced many magazines before, but this Rogue cover may be KC's fiercest and most daring to date.

On the other hand, Kapatid star Nadine Samonte graced Speed magazine's cover. The 23-year old actress is set to star in the upcoming remake of the TV classsice, Valiente.

The latest edition of these magazines are now available in newsstands and bookstores nationwide.

Iza Calzado is now a Kapamilya

Kapuso actress Iza Calzado has now turned Kapamilya.

The talented actress has ended speculations when she signed with ABS-CBN a 3-year exclusive contract which makes her the new host of the Philippine edition of The Biggest Loser.

And according to her manager, Noel Ferrer, the actress is also guaranteed to do 2 teleseryes every year and a quarterly guesting in Asia's longest-running drama anthology, Maalaala Mo Kaya.

Angelica Panganiban also tweeted that Alta is not shelved. The story is just being revised since Iza Calzado will be added in the show.

Iza is a good catch for the Kapamilya network, she being already a proven actress with several awards to boast. I think Iza could be a good partner to the network's top leading Piolo Pascual, having seen their chemistry in the movie Milan, where Iza had a brief yet memorable performance.

Nicolas Cage in Favor of Darker, Scarier 'Ghost Rider'

Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze in Warner Bros.' 3D supernatural action-thriller Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

In the film, Johnny - still struggling with his curse as the devil's bounty hunter - is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy from the devil. At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy - and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

During a press conference at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, Cage assured fans that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be scarier than his first outing as the comic book-inspired character. “This one, with directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, will go into the wonderful bliss of the nightmare imagination. I think it will be very entertaining.”

Q. What new things were you able to add to “Ghost Rider” this time?

Nicolas Cage: When I was trying to think about how the Ghost Rider would move, I wanted to find something really weird, which would be like levitating in circles. We called it 'the compass' together, to mess with how he would attack his enemies. It was like trying to design a body language from another dimension that would hopefully scare you and entertain you.

Q. Were there any stunts that really stood out for you, that really pushed your personal limits?

Cage: All the wirework was very stimulating, but also very nauseating, literally. I was going around in circles, upside down, and I was really trying not to throw up because it kept spinning and spinning. It’s one of my favorite things that we all came up with together, so I’m glad it’s there. It was well worth it.

Q. Did you have any pressure to make this film lighter?

Cage: There’s a lot of humor to be found in sarcasm and darkness. You talk to any paramedic, they survive by developing a pretty off-kilter sense of humor. I think Blaze, with any luck, has that because he’s really dealing with the fact that his head goes on fire, for years now. In the first movie, he kept it at bay. He was more like an innocent goofball. In this movie, there’s been a little fiery tapdance on his head, for several years. I think it should change his personality quite a bit.

Q. You played a character who had escaped from hell in “Drive Angry.” Are there any similarities or differences between that and this version of “Ghost Rider” ?

Cage: They’re totally different. In “Drive Angry,” I was playing a living dead man. Blaze is a living man who turns into a demon, so it’s a totally different kind of energy. A living dead man has to be a little bit more dead, whereas a living man who turns into a ghost can still be very alive.

Q. When you read comic books as a kid, it wasn’t always the coolest thing, but now you’re in a position in Hollywood to make those seemingly uncool things, cool for everybody. What’s it like to be in this moment in time, when all these characters you loved as a kid are being loved by the masses?

Cage: I actually had a vision of it when I was 9, that this was going to happen. It took a while because we didn’t have the technology to make them come to life so magnificently, as we do today. It was always so goofy, the stupid costumes of “Spider-Man” in the old movies in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and “Captain America.” But now, it’s become all the rage because there’s something in it for everybody. It’s perfect entertainment. It’s exciting for me. I love seeing all the movies happen.

Q. What comics do you read now? What are you passionate about?

Cage: I was into Planet Hulk. I thought that was pretty inspired stuff. I went back in time and looked at Batman vs. Predator. I just had to see who won that battle. There’s a lot of fun stuff. It’s always a good experience to go shopping in a local comic book shop.

Q. Who won that battle?

Cage: It was kind of a tie-breaker, but they usually are. I think Batman won, which was a bit of a stretch.

Brian Taylor: We’ve decided that Ghost Rider can kill all the other superheroes. Ghost Rider can beat Superman.

Cage: Because he has the penance stare, and everyone’s done something wrong. He will just look at you over and over and over and over again.

'Showtime' to replace 'HYY' in noontime slot

Gossips are flying high in the Kapamilya lot, and it's all about the network's one-year old noontime show, Happy Yipee Yehey, getting axed.

According to network insiders, the hosts were already informed on the show's eviction from noontime as early as January 4 this year. An emergency meeting was called by Cory Vidanes, channel head of ABS-CBN Manila, and there the hosts were informed about the cancellation.

And from that same meeting it was revealed that Showtime will replace the vacated slot on February 6 and will change format --- from a talent competition to a full-blown variety show. Accordingly, the Showtime hosts will be retained which include Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Karylle, Kim Atienza, Jugs and Teddy plus Jhong Hilario.

And when asked about the soon-to-be vacated slot of Showtime, nothing is slated yet. Perhaps the network will air old movies on it, same with rival GMA (who's movie blocks include weekday, weekend Saturday primetime, and Sunday morning and back-to-back in primetime).

Also revealed in the report that a new show will be launched for the 10:30 morning slot. However, details of it were not yet revealed.

During her recent concert in Manila, global pop star Katy Perry took a random guy from the crowd and kissed him on stage.
And the lucky guy was no other than Ivan Dorschner, an alumnus of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition.

And Ivan looked so hot on stage. Katty kissed Ivan on the cheeks, and she even allowed the lucky bastard to kiss her back.

But what made the audience to go wild? It's when Katy squeezed Ivan's nippy.

A part of me is hoping that Ivan has already mastered Tagalog, and went into intensive acting workshops, so he can now be launched by ABS-CBN as the network's next leading man. I mean...look at him? He has all the goods to be the next matinee idol.

Vice Ganda second thoughts on show's reformat

It has been reported earlier that Vice Ganda's top rating and Twitter-trending Sunday comedy talk show will be refortmatted. (Complete story click here)
But the recent tweet of Vice Ganda may signal that the this might not be final after all. Last night's Gandang Gabi Vice episode was preempted by ABS-CBN's Chinese New Year celebration. However, the preemption didn't stop the netizens to talk about the show, making GGV a trending topic.

"Your support for GGV is overwhelming! I really appreciate it. I feel your love for me and my show. Makes me want to RECONSIDER my decision", the box-office comedian tweeted.

According to insiders, it was Vice who made the decision to change the show's format to explore his musical side. But based on the tweet, Vice's decision might change.

I personally think that the show's current format hasn't been saturated yet. And with the show's celebrity guests changing every week and Vice's comedic antics, I don't see the audience getting tired in time being. Perhaps, being shown only on Sunday's helps build anticipation, making the show and event television for Pinoy viewers.

Sarah Geronimo topbills 'Sarah G Live', Vice Ganda on 'The Singing V'

Rigodon royale will be happening soon on ABS-CBN's weekend line-up. A shake up is being reported by insiders as Sarah Geronimo leaves ASAP and will join primetime, while Vice Ganda's top rating show reformats.
According to reports, Sarah Geronimo's new primetime extravaganza, Sarah G Live, will premiere next month, occupying early primetime. The pop superstar will be joined by a special co-host weekly.

As for Vice Ganda, the comedian will veer away from his Twitter trending comedy talk show. Gandang Gabi Vice will be reformatted and the new show, The Singing V, will feature the box-office comedian's musical side. It has been rumored that Eugene Domingo will join as co-host. But that will be so Comedy Bar...right?

It is quite an adventurous move for ABS-CBN, knowing that as a network, it has been a tradition that it sticks to successfully formulated genres and franchises. Yet, in the face of stiffer competition, it seems that the Kapamilya network is now exploring more of its talents' potentials for new program platforms.
Expect these new shows to rate well. Sarah Geronimo has been one of the most followed performers in ASAP, and bringing these viewers to primetime will be no difficult feat for the superstar.

For Vice, he's already ABS-CBN's most bankable TV presenters, next of course to the Queen. And we all know who's the Queen right?

Heidi Klum, Seal heading for divorce?

Yesterday, TMZ reported that supermodel Hedi Klum and husband Seal were heading for divorce, where Heidi is filing the papers, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason of the break-up.
However, Us Weekly reported that 38-year old Heidi and Seal, 48, are still together --- for now.

Though full of tension, according to sources close to the couple, the two are trying to patch things up since they still both love each other, and they have beautiful children who they both deeply love.

Seal, reportedly flew back from UK, and he and Heidi are now together in house talking. The singer is set to spend the next month in Australia, serving as one of the coaches in the Australian version of The Voice.

The couple has three biological children, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2, plus Klum's 7-year-old daughter from her previous marriage, Leni, whom Seal adopted in 2009.

Kobe Bryant's wife walks off with $75 million

Kobe Bryant's soon-to-be ex-wife has been awarded with $75 million in a divorce property settlement, TMZ reported.
The settlement, which has already been finalized, sees Vanessa, 28, takes almost half of the former couple's total assets estimated at $150 million.

According to the report, she was awarded with all three family mansions in Newport Beach. She is staying in one, her mother occupies another, and the other was just recently finished after a 2-year construction contract.

The soon-to-be former wife of the Lakers superstar also filed for a joint custody with their two kids, 8-year old Natalia and Gianna, 5.

It was reported that Vanessa filed for divorce amid reports of Kobe's extramarital affairs. In 2003, Kobe admitted adultery after a hotel employee implicated him in sexual assault charges. It was later dropped.

Beauty Queen-model Wendy Tabusalla is nominated for eviction after she received the most number of votes in the 7th nomination night of Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited.
Wendy received 11 votes, and only one vote shy is housemate Divine who got 10 votes. Completing the four nominated housemates are Joya and Carlo who both received 7 votes.

This is already the 4th time that Wendy is facing the possibility of eviction while first for Divine, Joya and Carlo. Wendy is now the second most nominated housemate in this season after evicted housemate Tol who got 5.

And based on our popularity poll, it is highly probable that Joya will be the one to be sent home next Saturday. Joya is the least popular among the nominated ones, as well as among the 14 remaining housemates in general.

'Munting Heredera' grabs lead in Mega Manila (Jan. 17-19, 2012)

Last week has been a big one for primetime television, with the premiere of two series --- Legacy and Walang Hanggan, and the finale of Kim Chiu's My Binondo Girl.
Walang Hanggan, ABS-CBN's new teleserye starring Coco Martin and Julia Montes registered high figures which has strengthened the Kapamilya network's line-up. GMA's Legacy, on the other hand, got modest numbers but still very competitive for its timeslot.

But GMA's Munting Heredera is the runaway winner as it grabbed the primetime leadership, now that Amaya had its finale a week prior. It is also interesting to note how My Binondo Girl rated so high amidst the very late timeslot.

Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman's kids make rare public appearance

Tom Cruise, wife Katie Holmes, and their daughter Suri live a very public life. The are everywhere, in magazines and tabloids, and photographed by throngs of paparazzi wherever they go.
But Tom Cruise has also two other kids from his previous marriage with Nicole Kidman. And the two kids made a very rare public appearance when Connor Cruise, 17, celebrated his birthday with a big bash. He posed for photos with his 19-year old sister, Isabella.

Connor and Isabella are both adopted. After their parents divorce, the two chose to live with their father.

And in 2010, when Nicole was asked about the kids living with their father, she said "They live with Tom, which was their choice. I'd love them to live with us, but what can you do?"

GMA's 'Legacy' used Song Hye Kyo's photo

In an episode of GMA Network's newest primetime drama, Legacy, a particular scene showed Heart Evangelista with boxes of soap bars branded as 'Tala' with a photo of a woman.
The show is about a cosmetic empire where three heiresses vie for control of their so-called inheritance. With that, a fictitious brand of soap was created, which falls as one of the products being manufactured by the said cosmetic company.

However, if one looks closely, the picture used in the soap bars is that of a Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, who became popular in the Philippines through the hit Korean drama Full House.

Did GMA ask permission to use the actress' face in the show's fictitious soap brand?

The good thing is the soap bar was not that focused, and it came quickly off screen. I am just wondering if this could ignite some legal repercussions for the network if the use of Song Hye Kyo's photo is indeed unauthorized.

Carmina Villaroel, Janice de Belen to do a talk show with ABS-CBN

Carmina Villaroel and Janice de Belen had finally inked with ABS-CBN exclusive contracts after staying in the Kapuso network for several years.
Last year, de Belen joined ABS-CBN's advocate-serye Budoy, and after rave reviews of her performance, the actress/TV host decided to sign a 2-year exclusive contract with the network.

And after much speculation, Carmina has decided to also jump ship and join her former SIS co-host in ABS-CBN to take part on several acting vehicles and hosting stints. According to reports, she will topbill a primetime drama with child superstar Zaijan Jaranilla no less.

A talk show is also being cooked for the, which will serve as a sort of reunion after their 8 years of hosting GMA's morning show.

The morning slot, however, is still being occupied by Kris TV hosted by the network's unofficial Queen B, Kris Aquino. Unless Kris' show is cancelled, which I doubt since Kris TV is doing well among the advertisers, a daily morning show for Carmina and Janice is highly improbable.

But if the Queen of All Media decides to concentrate on her acting career, as she claims 2012 is the year of her being an actress, then the morning slot would be free soon for a new show and a hosting reunion would then be possible.
