Alden Richards, Derrick Monasterio another photo scandal?

After their video became viral, Kapuso actors Alden Richards and Derrick Monasterio are again in the headlines when a photo of them in a compromising position surfaced in the web.

The released photo was labeled "Derrick and Alden landian".

The two actors are currently one of the most promising young stars of GMA Network. Alden has already created a buzz with his promise in acting, with breakthrough performances on his first teleserye Alakdana and in the critically-acclaimed Yam Laranas' film The Road.

On the other hand, Derrick is already slated as the Kapuso network's next leading man with his towering height at a very young age, and smoldering good looks. It is then unsurprising that issues will be thrown to the two, as those with promise are the most probable to get issues in showbiz.

FHM pulls out alleged racist cover with Bela Padilla

FHM Philippines has issued an apology and decided to pull back its March cover after they received complaints from what was perceived as outright racism.

The cover featured actress Bela Padilla in a pink bikini surrounded by black models in black bikinis. The picture alone has no problem. What caused the spark of racism issue is the caption "Bela Padilla stepping out of the shadows."

FHM, the best-selling magazine in the country, announced its decision to change the cover after receiving slew of comments on the supposed racist cover. The magazine also vowed to be more sensitive in their pursuit for edgier covers.

Bela Padilla, on the other hand, took herself to Twitter and apologized for the offense caused by her cover.

First Pick: Bb. Pilipinas 2012 Top 5 (February 26, 2012)

PTV Critic is starting it's coverage of the Bb. Pilipinas 2012 pageant with it's first pick of the Top 5 ladies out of the 30 official candidates.

Bb. Pilipinas is the most prestigious and most traditional pageant in the Philippines, which selects the Filipina who will represent in three international pageants. The best placer will compete in the Miss Universe, the world's most prestigious and most followed pageant, which is reported to take place on December.

The second placer will be sent to Miss International pageant, the third oldest international competition pageant. The third placer will now be sent to Miss Tourism Queen International, a huge pageant taking place in China, as confirmed by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc.

Here's our Top Pick as of February 26, 2012:

Bb. Pilipinas-Universe - MJ Lastimosa

Mary Jean Lastimosa, 24 years old, is a sexy vixen with the sultry move that will surely make waves in Miss Universe. Criticized for lacking the towering height, Lastimosa complements it with her banging body, killer waistline and seductive catwalk. She looks vibrant on videos and has excellent styling. The only problem with her as of the moment is the lack of vibrancy and bubbly personality, which is what the MUO is looking for a winner. But it could be practiced. A stunner like her should be sent on the best pageant, and that is Miss Universe.

She was 2nd runner-up last year, and hopefully, with proper hairstyle and make-up come the finals night, this lady from Davao City will surely capture the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe crown.

Bb. Pilipinas-International - Nicole Schmitz

This 23-year old Filipino-Australian boasts doll-like Eurasian features which has proven successful for the country's quest for its 5th MI crown. Although all the country's winners in the Miss International pageant are not mestiza-looking, recent Eurasian candidates of the Philippines has secured the country's placement in the semi-finals in 2009 and 2010.

She has this radiant smile and bouncy personality which is the IN for Miss International. The problem with her is that she looks old on some pictures with her huge curly hair, a reminiscent of last year's Miss Universe pageant where candidates were made to sport hugely coiffed hair which did not do their beauty any justice.

Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism - Rose Ann Aguilar

Sweet Asian features, and a decent height, 24-year old Rose Ann Aguilar is a fit representative in Miss Tourism Queen International pageant. She is also a good alternative for the Universe title. A pageant veteran, Aguilar was a finalist in the 2010 edition of Bb. Pilipinas. That time, her body lacked the definition and the right curves as expected for a country's rep in international pageants.

I am hoping that she has done her assignments, and has now achieved killer curves that might lead her to clinch the top placement.

Karen Gallman

This 19-year old Fil-Australian has this seductive stare and a regal beauty that could be the next face of the country in the Miss Universe pageant. Though criticized for lacking the height, I am a firm believer, that a 5'6" Filipina with proper styling, radiant personality and a beauty that will stand out from a crowd of bevy beauties is a strong contender for the world's most prestigious crown. She can also be a good alternative for the Bb. Pilipinas-International title, given the fact that height is not a significant factor is the said pageant. Fact has it that the shortest Miss International which stands 5'6" is a Filipina, Lara Quigaman in 2005.

Jaine Hidalgo

A Filipina stunner, this 25-year old pageant veteran is an epitome of Filipina beauty, with a height to boot and a competitive figure. A native from Naga City, this lady is following the footsteps of fellow Bicolanas who were victorious in Bb. Pilipinas. She has a pleasant beautiful face, and with proper styling and training, could be a good choice for the Miss Universe quest or in the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant.

Gretchen Baretto speaks about cancellation of 'Alta', new drama series

Controversial actress Gretchen Baretto spoke of her disappointment on the cancellation of her supposed primetime drama series Alta with actress Angelica Panganiban, whom she had some misunderstanding years ago.

The beautiful actress denied rumors that she was the reason on the show's cancellation. Reports have it that Alta was cancelled out of the actress' numerous demands. Gretchen said that she believed in the show and the cast, that she had many preparations for her role in the show.

Aside from workshops with the supposed cast members, the eldest Baretto had several couture made for her role as a socialite.

Although the real reason of Alta's cancellation was not clarified, the exclusive interview of The Buzz however, revealed that Gretchen will be part of the upcoming drama which will star teen superstar Kathryn Bernardo. The show which is titled The Princess and I will feature THE Gretchen Baretto in a role she was born to, a Queen.

And the actress coming birthday, March 6, will require her to be working as she will be flying to Bhutan for the show's location shoot. Insiders reported that Gretchen and Kathryn will play royals from the landlocked country along the Himalayas.

Also part of the show is Albert Martinez, who was last seen in Nasaan Ka Elisa?. Kathryn's leading men will be Daniel Padilla, her Growing Up co-star, Budoy star Enrique Gil and Pilipinas Got Talent finalist Khalil Ramos.

Hayden Kho retracts statements, leaves Twitter

Hayden Kho Jr. hours after posting on his Twitter account the alleged affair of Dra. Vicki Belo and her yoga instructor Al Galang.

"In the height of my anger, I tweeted those things and now I regret it", he started.

He then posted a series of tweets, clearing the name of Dra. Belo in the infidelity issue, as well as denying that he's having an affair with Nancy Castiliogne.

"First, that letter was real. But Vicki and I spoke about it and I believe her. Vicki DID NOT have an affair with that guy."

"Al and I spoke already and he had apologized to me about that letter. I have forgiven him and that's finished", he then added.

After which, he then reiterated that Vicki never cheated on him, and denied that he neither dating of having an affair with Nancy. The controversial doctor then bid his goodbye to Twitter.

The Hayden Kho-Vicki Belo love saga has turned into an unexpected twist, as Hayden revealed on his twitter account that it's not him who caused the break-up.

Al Galang, in a photoshoot with Felix Alquiros.

Based on his tweet, Hayden named a certain Al Galang as Dra. Belo's new boytoy. Al Galang is said to be Dra. Vicki's Bikram yoga instructor.

Hayden also posted a photo of Vicki's alleged letter to Al before she left for the US.

Al Galang is a Political Science and Art History graduate from UCLA, who stands 6 foot-1, and was 2nd Runner-up in the 2007 Mossimo Bikini Summit. He settled in Manila, and was a popular Bikram yoga instructor.

Noontime is now a three-way battle, TV5 launches new show

It's been a long time that noontime is being contested by ABS-CBN and GMA.

The Kapuso network had been airing Eat Bulaga for the longest time now while rival Kapamilya network had a string of hits and misses in noontime, giving the longest show in the Philippines a pretty good fight. And the entry of a competitive player is poised to make the noontime competition stiffer.

TV5, the country's fastest growing and no. 3 network will launch a new weekday game/variety show that will occupy the noontime slot, directly competing with ratings juggernaut Eat Bulaga and demo winner It's Showtime.

The Kapatid network will introduce this March Game 'N Go, a daily game show to be hosted by award-winning host Edu Manzano, former Wiltime Bigtime host Shalani Soledad, Gelli de Belen, Arnel Ignacio, Wendy Valdez, Pretty Trizsha and Tuesday Vargas. The show will be under the helm of Danny Caparas.

It will be a difficult task for TV5's first attempt to penetrate noontime viewers, with Eat Bulaga having loyal followers all over the nation and getting the bigger share of the ratings pie, and It's Showtime having the upper hand among the younger and more affluent viewers.

The entry of a third player in the noontime slot is exciting, providing the Filipino viewers more alternative. The stiffer competition will then motivate the two existing shows to come up with better ideas and concepts to keep its viewers in the fold.

A pretty face who captivated the Filipino audience during her stint on Pinoy Big Brother, Sam Pinto has taken the next level as she jumped into a sexier career, and was eventually voted as FHM's Sexiest Woman 2011.

Born Samuelle Lynne Acosta Pinto to a well-off family, she started at the age of 10 as a print ad model, appearing on campaigns of Coca Cola, Sunsilk, Colgate, Palmolive, McDonald's, and Bayo.

But she became a household name when she joined as one of the housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Double Up, one of the show's highest rated season.

Post PBB saw Sam Pinto taking minor roles on several ABS-CBN shows, but was given a major break as Jake Cuenca's leading lady in the weekly primetime drama Elias Paniki. But with the number of big stars in the Kapamilya network, Sam decided to transfer to rival network, to gain more momentum on her career.

She signed a 3-year exclusive contract with GMA Network, and was casted on several shows. She has also appeared on Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote, the 2010 MMFF entry co-produced by GMA Films.

Vietnam will no longer host Miss Earth 2012?

After the successful staging of Miss Earth 2010 in Vietnam, the supposedly done deal between the Filipino-owned Miss Earth pageant and its Vietnam licensor seems to have fallen apart.

In an interview with Vietnam Express, Mr. Nguyen Cong Khe, the Chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corp, and licensors of Miss Earth in Vietnam, told that hosting the Miss Earth 2012 pageant in the country is not official and still under “discussion”.

He cited the gloom financial climate in Vietnam makes the staging of an international pageant in the country difficult, as production costs will be scrutinized and reviewed carefully by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

It was reported last year that Vietnam is constructing a special amphitheater in the coastal city of Ninh Thuan, which was said to be the venue of future Miss Earth and Miss Vietnam pageants. However, this deal might not push through based on later reports.

Kyle Imao is the 1st Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition

The 12-year old Kyle Imao of Marikina City was hailed as the first ever Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition winner after garnering the highest score in the live cook test.

The season finale featured 100 guest-judges, adjudged Kyle as the best kiddie cook with the score of 91.8.

The second placer, Phillip Amarillo of Cebu gave a close fight, as he received a score of 91.1. Third is Mika Tanaca with a final score of 84, and fourth is Jobim Jalbuena with 73.4. A dead-ringer of Atom Araullo, Jobim became a trending topic in Twitter just minutes after the live finale began.

As the winner, Kyle received a 1.5 million culinary scholarship and a cash prize of Php 1 million. The second placer received a 1.5 million culinary scholarship and Php 500 thousand in cash prize. The third and fourth placers, on the other hand, both received a Php 500 thousand culinary scholarship and Php 250 thousand in cash prize.

Alden Richards goes topless in Folded & Hung

Kapuso rising actor Alden Richards went shirtless with the recent billboard of Folded and Hung.

The actor was launched by the Kapuso network as a leading man on its defunct daytime drama Alakdana, opposite actress Louise delos Reyes. And it proved a right move for the network, as the 19-year old actor showed promise and now joins the Kapuso network's limited stable of leading men.

Alden once auditioned in two reality shows, first on Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition but was rejected. He then auditioned for Starstruck, but luck was not yet on his side. The two failures, however, didn't stop Alden's dreams for stardom.

Too much stars, less shows

The news of Kapuso stars transferring to ABS-CBN has raised some questions on the efficiency of GMA in managing their stars. But that is entirely a different story.

What bothers me now is the number of stars from other networks joining the Kapamilya network. The network has so many homegrown stars already, and now expats are flocking the network who are seeking for the so-called "career growth".

While there is nothing wrong with network transfer, I find it appalling that ABS-CBN continues to accept other networks' stars, while putting several homegrown stars in the sidelines. Too many stars are now vying for place in the network's limited number of locally-produced shows.

Daily dramas fill the country's local TV landscape. While most of the Kapamilya network's teleseryes are well-produced, the horizontal programming limits the number of shows being produced, thus leaving the stars with limited number of shows to take part with.

Though the ABS-CBN is now harnessing it's young stars, especially the Goin Bulilit alumni with its new crops of shows like Okatokat and Luv U, it is still undeniable that many of Star Magic talents are now left to do bit roles on daytime dramas, and perform one weekly prod number in ASAP.

I believe that, to accommodate the network's many talents, especially the bigger-named stars and make them a staple of primetime television, ABS-CBN should start adapting weekly shows --- from musicals, sitcoms and dramas.

The network has already found how to utilized the superstar wattage of Sarah Geronimo via her upcoming weekly primetime musical variety show. Following this, big stars like Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz, Piolo Pascual, Angelica Panganiban, Kristine Hermosa and othe underutilized A-listers could have their own weekly shows as well. And to make this weekly format fiscally feasible is for the network to find ways how to efficiently manage production costs.

Big stars don't have to wait for teleseryes to return to primetime TV. Big stars should topbill their own weekly dramas, and just leave the teleserye format to younger and lesser stars. Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Xian Lim, Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Enrique Gil among others can now topbill teleseryes without the much needed help of bigger stars. In fact, Kim Chiu is even more popular than the aforementioned bigger stars.

It has really been my advocacy for networks to start re-building the vertical programming on the 10 PM slot, and give in to demands of well-written shows, with fresh and innovative concepts. With a stiffer competition, I think the time has come for a revolutionary move on television programming in the Philippines.

The two actors wore Mint's hip and comfy fashion, designed for carefree yet classy men. Gerald is the newest addition to Mint, joining fellow Star Magic artist Xian Lim.

Gerald is the former screen partner of Kim Chiu, while Xian has just been launched successfully as the actress' new loveteam.

Rumor has it that one of GMA's leading men has a gay benefactor, whom he was reunited recently when the actor went for a show in the Middle East.

Of course, it first became a subject of a blind item, where blurred photos of the actor and his alleged benefactor were posted. It was said to be there reunion, after long years of being apart.

Accordingly, when the actor was still unknown, he and the said rich gay had a "special' friendship. And now that the actor has already made a name for himself, he still pays the gay benefactor a visit from time to time.

The said actor has been named. And the gossip mongers point fingers to Aljur Abrenica.

But the big question remains. Who is the rich gay benefactor?

Bb. Pilipinas 2012 Official Candidates revealed

After a back-to-back placement in the Miss Universe pageant, the Philippines is now on the road to select the next Filipina to represent the country in the world's most prestigious pageant.

MJ Lastimos, a heavy favorite last year, returns after bagging 2nd runner-up to Shamcey Supsup.

After a tough selection process, 30 gorgeous women were selected to vie for the crowns at stake, and the chance to compete in three international pageants --- the Miss Universe, Miss International and the Miss Tourism International.

Patricia Ejercitado, considered by pageant fans as this year's frontrunner, underwent some enhancement and now ready to conquer Bb. Pilipinas.

Naked Men abound in GMA-7's 'My Beloved'

This Monday will be the premiere of GMA Network's highly anticipated primetime series My Beloved. This sets the reunion of TV's hottest couple, MMFF Best Actor Dingdong Dantes and 2011 Reigning Primetime Queen Marian Rivera.

Dingdong Dantes playing the angel death who will fall for a mortal.

But what sets the anticipation bar higher is the inclusion of gorgeous and sexy men in the show, who will play angels of death in topless, aptly called 'Tagasundo'.

Aside from Dingdong, several high-profile celebrities and models will go topless in the show, including former Survivor Philippines castaway John Hall and Nippo-Brasileiro model Fabio Ide.

Although the show's premise is not new, but I am betting with Marian and Dingdong's undeniable chemistry will bring in great ratings. But I am sure, gay and girl viewers will flock in the show.

After all, the teaser released by GMA showed enough gorgeous bodies to drool with. And that's just the teaser...

Paco Evangelista is evicted, to return as houseplayer

Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited's latest evictee is Paco Evangelista from General Santos City.

Paco, who was nominated for eviction after talking to housemates the nomination process, which is a big No-no, was sent home after receiving 42.63% of the total votes. The other nominated housemate, Tin Patrimonio was saved with 57.37%.

Paco is a businessman and a law student, and was known as a vicious and very competitive housemate. I love his driven character, knowing what he wants, and definitely knows how to get it.

And because of that, Kuya announced to Paco in the confession room that he will not yet go out the house. He will remain inside the house as a houseplayer.

In the previous seasons, a houseplayer was used to test the remaining 10 housemates through various tasks to be determined by the viewers' text votes.
