I don’t have excuses and can’t say I’ve been all this time configuring the new Wordpress installation either. I guess someone trying to configure its own Wordpress site is well capable of it, so actually this post brings nothing new but it is written for my own record.

Before getting into the details, just a few words about Wordpress: the more I use it, the more I like it. There might be a little problem when trying to do something advanced because some technical knowledge is required. Ops! I was forgetting to mention how alarming could be the Wordpress news releases… just when I got something in the right place, let’s start again.. for sure!

blog.txt is a Wordpress theme that perfectly suits what I was looking for: simplicity. I had to do some fixing about uppercases and add some new styles for the new side bar elements.

To deal with spam (so far not much) and according what I read, akismet is the best choice and with free personal non-commercial licence… you know, best things in life are free™.

I always liked to have a small pic/avatar when a comment was posted: gravatar provides a centralized service for this, and there is this plugin to get it into Wordpress.

A multilingual site is a hard goal to achieve but it was my intention to have it so at least with Spanish and English.. so language switcher was there to help!. I know my English is not as good as it should to post on the net, so any corrections would be greatly appreciated.

Comments and participation bring life to a blog so I invested some time looking for some sort of plugin that allowed agile commenting… and the outcome of the search what this two gems of plugins: this one for adding and that one for editing.

para escribir menos y para mejorar los enlaces internos.External links are managed by external links though all of them are built by smart link to keep writing at a minimum and to improve inner content/article/post linking.

When it comes to posting, remember what to link to is a task that can be automated by related posts which automagically™ will write a related posts section at the end of the article based on tagging.

Despite the easy straight forward plugin installation on Wordpress, the plugin needs to be configured, determined where to place it (home, single post, sidebar, etc) and even some php coding to fix some other plugin compatibility issues (e.g. language swithcer). Nevertheless, I hope someone find this piece of info useful.
