What's the pitch?
I'm working with a small business with a business model geared toward helping consumers save money in the real estate category. Due to the current economic landscape, their business is doing very well and they are seeing an increase in revenue.

I am speaking with an editor at a national online website that is interested in the broader topic of small companies that are emerging or launched a few years ago, which help consumers, and as a result are seeing an increase in revenue/sales etc. in their business (because consumers are actively looking for ways to save money in this recession).

 What's the pitch?
In recent months, hundreds of Israelis of Polish descent have been seeking assistance in obtaining Polish citizenship confirmation for purposes ranging from education to business to nostalgia. Cherski & Co. was one of the first Israeli law firms to assist in the process. The firm made headlines earlier this year when it was discovered that many clients were left in the dark after Ilan Cherski’s death as to what would become of their original documents and pending applications, not to mention the fees they had already paid.

Identifying the problem, Eranium – a subsidiary of the international powerhouse law firm Salans – has stepped in, pledging to represent the clients and only charge ‘success fees’ for approved applications. No additional fees will be taken until Eranium achieves positive results, an important stipulation as the intricacies of Polish law may complicate the approval of many files.

What’s the pitch?
I’m in the early stages of developing a pitch about the future of
narrative/nonfiction writing conferences as a way to promote the
University of North Texas’ Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference.
With the Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism suspended due to
budget constraints, organizers of writing conferences across the
country will be trying to standout and attract former Nieman
participants. The questions then become:
What is the role of writing conferences as the journalism industry
faces turbulent times?
What changes do conference organizers need to make to standout and
attract journalists?
What are the elite conferences around the country, and what makes them standout?
(and many more)
I’d love to hear from promoters of other writing conferences,
particularly conferences sponsored by a college or university. I’d
also love to hear journalists’ thoughts on these questions.
Thank you!
