<p><span style="color: #000000">Though each parrot is an individual, with their own idiosyncrasies and quirks that make them WHO they are, the different types also tend to have personality tendencies that shape WHAT they are.  For example, cockatoos will behave and interact differently than Amazon parrots.  Military macaws will behave differently than scarlet macaws.  Blue head Pionus parrots have a different temperment than blue head conures or blue crown Amazon parrots.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000">The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education &amp; Adoption Center (PEAC) is presenting a class on, &#8220;PARROT PERSONALITIES&#8221; on Saturday May 19, 2012, at 11:30 AM.  This will be followed at 1:00 PM by a round table discussion, &#8220;LET&#8217;S TALK ABOUT YOUR PARROT&#8217;S PERSONALITY&#8221;, in which attendees will be encouraged to participate, discuss their birds, and ask questions.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #000000">This is one of the required classes to adopt a bird from, or foster a bird for, PEAC.</span></strong></p>

<p style="text-align: left"><span style="color: #000000"> This class will be taught by Scott Reichert, Director of the Pittsburgh affiliate of PEAC.  Mr. Reichert is  extensively experienced with the techniques he will be discussing and has taught this class numerous times in the past.  As he interacts with absolutely all of the birds that come into our adoption program, he is constantly using them with new birds, refining and improving, even more, his proficiency with this discipline.  We are lucky that he is available to share his knowledge and experience with us.  It is unusual to find someone who is constantly interacting to make friends, with such a variety of new birds, on the scale that Mr Reichert does.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000">The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education &amp; Adoption Center (PEAC) and The National Aviary at Pittsburgh present a class on Parrot Enrichment.  This class will be primarily conducted by a staff member of the National Aviary.  This is expected to be completed by approximately 4:00 PM.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000"><strong>Enrichment</strong> is anything that encourages natural behaviors, and in doing so, enriches and improves the quality of life for captive animals. Enrichment can provide a wide variety of benefits to pet birds, including fewer undesirable behaviors and more opportunities for meaningful interaction with your bird. In this workshop, we will discuss different kinds of enrichment and techniques that you can use with your own birds. <p><strong><span style="color: #000000">Membership:</span></strong><span style="color: #000000">Membership in the Pittsburgh affiliate of PEAC is inexpensive.  A single membership is only $20.00 for a year.  A family membership is $30.00 for a year.  If you join at this class, the appropriate discount will be applied to your admission cost.</span> </p>
<p><span style="color: #000000"><strong>A benefit of membership</strong> in PEAC is a discount on, or free, admission to a variety of bird related classes or other events, throughout the year, regardless of which affiliate of PEAC is presenting them. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000"><strong>Representatives of PEAC will be present</strong> at the class to discuss the activities of the organization, adoptable birds, volunteer, and fostering opportunities.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000"><strong>Parrot Education &amp; Adoption Center was established in 1996</strong> and has affiliates in several states in the US.  It purpose is to promote education on topics related to the keeping of parrots and to rehome parrots that have lost their homes into appropriate new homes, where they will receive proper care.  The Pittsburgh affiliate of<strong> PEAC is approved by the IRS as a not-for-profit, public charity, under section 501(c)3 of the tax code</strong>.  <strong>It is staffed entirely by volunteers.</strong>  Donations to PEAC in the form of monetary, material, or service performed, as well as expenses incurred in the conducting of PEAC service, including vehicle milage, may be tax deductable, depending on the specific circumstances. </span></p>
