Craig Good has been at Pixar since 1982, when it was still a division of Lucasfilm, Ltd (LFL). He started as a janitor and security guard with an interest in computers. That interest led to some on-the-job training in programming and eventually the job he has today as a layout artist working on the upcoming feature Brave. He tells this story on today's episode. He also explains what a layout artist does and how Pixar's rendering software works. Craig was recorded in Pixar's sound studio, where voice actors record dialogue, so the sound quality is superb. Listen to hear him talk about "student" films he and his fellow Pixar employees have been involved in recently, and other great stories from his time at Pixar. Jennifer Inez Ward sits down with Elyse Klaidman (Director of Pixar University and Archives) and Rene de Guzman (Senior Curator of Art at OMCA) to talk about the museum exhibit Pixar: 25 Years of Animation, currently showing at the Oakland Museum of California. She conducted the interview for her review of the exhibit back when it opened in July. It was so thrilling for Jennifer to be so kind as to offer to send me the audio to her interview. I had never considered asking for that. Her feeling was that because everything she writes for Oakland Local and her blog are the written text, it is a shame that the reader can't usually hear the entire audio interviews. Christopher Nolan/Toy Story trailers (FUNNY! MUST WATCH! Go to www.thepixarpodcast.com for the links!) FindingNemo 2 and 3 in the works? An old Walt Disney "sequel" that blew my mind. Fan mail to Lee. John Scalzi on filmcritic.com shared his Buzz Lightyear movie idea. Real life Buzz Lightyears. And real-life WALL-E and EVE? And finally, the Oakland Museum's website And one more comment, if I may, about FindingNemo2.com, which I mentioned has been owned by Disney since 2000. While it DOES seem possible that Disney could have been just securing the spot online, it is also possible that Disney was already planning a sequel as this was a very sequel-driven time for the company, and Pixar had by this time proven itself it be a great moneymaker for the company. Then again, Michael Eisner is now infamous for his public opinion that Nemo would be Pixar's first box office flop (it became their most successful). Who knows!
