We have a shorter episode this week due to BigSt3ph3n's absence, thus why this episode is only called "68.5" and not the epic "69". We have a fairly decent-sized Sausage Dump this week, but let's start things off like every other week and get right into "What We've Been Playing".

This week's "What We've Been Playing" features discussion of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, Terminator Salvation, Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon, TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Shatter, and much more. We follow that up with some gaming news including the new Left 4 Dead DLC, the Starcraft II delay, the announcement of a Wii-port of COD4, and plenty more.

We end the show with a Sausage Dump featuring some film discussion including Funny People and The Brothers Bloom. We also talk about some TV shows and some exciting news from Comic-Con! The reason I find all this praise and crazy fanboyism odd is that this story directly compares the game with the CGI of Toy Story 2. Maybe it's just me, but I find it almost pointless to praise a video game for delivering graphics of the same quality as a 10 year old movie. Shouldn't we be questioning why there is such a gap in the quality of pre-rendered graphics compared to CGI? It's not that I don't understand why it's more difficult to reach CGI-level graphics, but I just find it odd to praise a game for looking as good as a 10 year old movie.

We have an extra long and extra special episode for all our listeners this week. We have a special guest who will be joining us as a permanent co-host for as long as he wants. This special guest goes by the name of BigSt3ph3n, formerly of Why Are We Friends, and he is big, black, and proud! (minus the being black part) We had a blast with our new guest this week and hopefully you enjoy this new addition just as much as us!

This week's "What We've Been Playing" features a very lengthy and in-depth discussion on Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, as well as some little baby discussions on The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Wheelman, Sonic Unleashed, Bionic Commando, Raiden Fighters Aces, and much more! We follow that up with some gaming news including the Bioshock 2 delay, the leaked redesign of the Tomb Raider franchise, and the absolutely ridiculous "Prestige Edition" of Modern Warfare 2.

We end the show with a tiny Sausage Dump. We talk about a few of TV shows once again including True Blood, Weeds, and BigSt3ph3n's man-crush for Grey's Anatomy. We hope you enjoy the show and don't forget to rate/review us on iTunes.

The Podcast - DF #66: Call of Juarez's Secret Monkey

This week's episode is particularly crappy (and short) and isn't even worth pimping. If you're interested in making your ears bleed then I highly recommend you listen to this here piece of poop!

We start off the show unenthusiastically with "What We've Been Playing" just like any other episode. We talk about Prototype, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Trash Panic, Gunstar Heroes, Peggle: Dual Shot, and more. We follow that up with the shortest news segment in recent memory, basically consisting of the rumors that "Project Natal" is actually the next Xbox. We end the show with a sausage dump featuring my dislike for the HBO series True Blood. I hope you live through this episode and please be kind in your reviews on iTunes.

The Podcast - DF #62: We Panic Ghostbusting Our Trash

I was extremely hopeful for this series and expected to enjoy it, even if it was only because I love vampires. Sadly, I was in for quite a downpour of disappointment.

The premise is interesting; Vampires are now out in the open, "out of the closet", and live among humans, all while being discriminated against. Apparently this is supposed to be a metaphor of the discrimination of homosexuality in our world, but the show doesn't do a good job of portraying this in a serious tone. There is so much potential in True Blood, but one, very specific thing holds it back...

...Sex. The show is full of explicit, pointless and unneeded sex scenes. There is no reason for the show to throw this much sex at you, especially when there is no legitimate reason for its existence. Every time that I would start to get interested in the show, I would be immediately taken out of the experience because apparently I need to watch some people hump the crap out of each other like a couple of horny bunnies.

I have only seen the first two episodes of season 1 (I love you Netflix!), but those episodes were enough to turn me away from giving the series another shot. I will consider watching more of season 1 if I'm told the show changes its ways after the first few episodes, but from the little I've heard, True Blood keeps the pointless sex coming and coming (sorry, it was just too easy) all night long!

I am giving the first two episodes of True Blood two sausages out of five.

That amount would be one hundred thousand dollars!!! Actually, it's only one hundred dollars.

I was seriously thinking about picking up the Guitar Hero: World Tour band kit bundle through Walmart's website for $99, but I wanted to just pick it up in store. This was impossible thanks to the fact that Walmart does not match their prices in store with their prices online. I could purchase it through their website and choose "ship up at store" (which is free) as my shipping method, but why should I have to do that? Why does Walmart feel the need to waste my time (and theirs) just because they won't match their own friggin' prices?

The other game(s) that I was considering instead of Guitar Hero was The Sims 3, as well as the recent "Complete Pack" of Civilization IV. I would have most likely picked up the limited edition of The Sims 3 because I am a bit of a Sims whore, but my fear that the game may not run on my system halted my purchase. The total of these two games would have equaled $110. I did not buy them, nor did I buy Guitar Hero. What did I end up buying you ask? Find out with more sausage...

What I ended up buying was 4 copies of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (w/Subzero animation cell) for the X360 at $15 a pop, Prince of Persia (X360) for $15, Need for Speed: Undercover (X360) for $12, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (NDS) for $5, and Metal Slug 7 (NDS) for $10.

This all ended up costing me roughly $110 after taxes. The awesome part of this tale is that I can pretty much get all of my money back by selling these sealed copies (yes, they are all brand new copies) on eBay for a nice lump o' change. I must thank Target (and small town stupidity) for making this all happen. I may actually go back and pick up some more copies since they still had about 10 copies of MK and PoP each. Thank you Walmart for being completely ridiculous and thank you my computer for being outdated! None of this could have ever happened without you!

I also have to throw a shout out to K-Mart for Metal Slug 7 and a shout out to Shop Ko for Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime.

There are no special guests. This is not a special show (unless you consider us "special). This is just a regular ol' episode with a man from Kentucky and a fella from Chi-CAAA-GO!

This week's episode starts of with the predictable "What We've Been Playing" and it was quite the interesting bag o' games. We talked about Prototype (and Rob goes crazy over Metacritic), Punch-Out!!, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Ninjatown, Hakuna Matata (Afrika), Gunstar Heroes, and much more! Question for all our listeners out there: What are your thoughts on the way Metacritic converts scores from 1UP? Anyway, we follow up what we've been playing with some gaming news...

There wasn't too much exciting news going on this week, most likely due to everyone recovering from E3, but we managed to find some random crap out there. We discuss the announcement of Battlefield 3, the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott shenanigans, and the sad fact that Criterion Games (Burnout Devs) is working on a Need for Speed game (insert sad face here). We wrap up the show with a small sausage dump and then call it a night (technically an afternoon). I hope you enjoyed the show and don't forget to rate/review us on iTunes!

The Podcast - DF #61: Punching Out Prototype

You can follow her on Twitter, check out her writings at Consolemonster.com, or give her blog a visit at viera.nu!

We start off this show like any other with “What We’ve Been Playing”. We talk about Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Resistance: Fall of Man, Overlord II, the Uncharted 2 multi-player beta, and much more. We continuously stray off-topic, but eventually managed to get through “What We’ve Been Playing” and get down to business, the business that is “E-Trio”.

We began our E3 discussion with a breakdown of each of the Big 3’s press conferences and eventually choose a “winner”. We then talked about the surprising absences of E3, such as the absence of Rare and the lack of a PS3 Slim announcement. We follow that up with our best and worst moments/news from E3 and end it all with our game of the show.

We had a lot of fun recording this episode and we hope you enjoy listening to it. Once again I just want to thank Atheistium for joining us on this very fine day and wanted to let her know that she is always welcome to stop on over as a guest anytime. Just remember: You bring the dumpage and I’ll bring the sausage! The press conference was not perfect, but it was a great way to start a relatively enjoyable E3.

The press conference started off with Beatles: Rock Band and while I’ve never been much of a Beatles fan, I actually found the game to look rather enjoyable and it looked to catch the Beatles vibe perfectly. It did feel a bit weird and uncomfortable when they started bringing out family members of deceased Beatles, as well as Paul McCartney and Ringo Star. It was as if they were trophies that Microsoft and Harmonix wanted to show off.

Then Microsoft started to show off some of their lineup for both 2009 and 2010. The first game shown was Tony Hawk: Ride, which will be coming out for $120, along with a weight limit of 250lbs. The game looks ridiculous and I don’t expect much of a wait before someone seriously hurts themselves on that flimsy piece of plastic. This was followed up with a live gameplay demo of Modern Warfare 2, which looks to be essentially more COD4, but that’s not exactly a bad thing. At this point the show wasn’t too bad, but it started to pick up after the announcement of some known (and unknown) new games.

Forza 3: Motorsport was officially announced (surprise?) and left me with mixed feelings. I love Forza 2 and I know I’ll likely pick up Forza 3, but there was just something odd about this presentation. The live gameplay demo looked good, but graphically not as impressive as Gran Turismo 5. The odd part is that they showed a video after this that supposedly was made using the in-game video editor and that footage looked amazing. I’m not sure if that was actually taken from the game, or if we’re looking at another case of “Killzone 2-anitus”.

We then got some surprising sequels in the form of Crackdown 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 (that’s right, we’re already getting a L4D sequel). While I think L4D2 will likely be a great game, I can’t help but be annoyed that we’re getting a sequel to a six month old game and we still haven’t heard a word on Half-Life 2: Episode 3. I’d rather have heard that Portal was getting a sequel and I haven’t even beaten the game. Then we got our token Halo news (Halo: ODST), which was followed by a second bit of Halo news (Halo: Reach). It was also announced that an invitation to a closed beta for Halo: Reach would be included with the purchase of Halo: ODST. This begs the ultimate question: Can a Halo beta make a Halo game sell better? …did I just blow your mind!?

The most surprising game of Microsoft’s press conference came from EPIC Games and was an XBLA title called Shadow Complex. There isn’t much info on the game currently, but it’s essentially Castlevania in the future, with guns. The game is what looks to be a 2.5D side-scroller and screams Castlevania/Super Metroid and I can’t wait to get my hands on it; it’s part of the “Summer of Arcade”. Another surprise of the show was how good Splinter Cell: Conviction looked, along with how different it was from when we last saw the game. It’s hard to describe why the game looks so amazing (check out the live demo), but Conviction has gone from a blip on my radar to one of my most anticipated games of 2009; yes, the game is coming out in 2009!

Alan Wake also came by to say “Hello. I’m still alive. Please don’t think of me as the new Duke Nukem ‘Fornever’.” I believe that Alan Wake is not the type of game that would demo well and the demo they showed did not excite me, but it also didn’t turn me off in any way. It was just nice to see an actual demo of the game running on a 360 and being given a release window of “early 2010”. The final major game announcement was that Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which will star Raiden, is coming to the Xbox 360. I’m extremely excited for this game, but I am a bit surprised that there was no announcement of a port of Metal Gear Solid 4 for the 360.

Microsoft followed up this terrific lineup with some unexciting, but understandable new content for the Xbox 360. They announced that the Netflix “Party Live” system will finally get up and running this fall, along with partnerships with Last.fm, Facebook, and Twitter. Now we can all look forward to even more spam “tweets” in our Twitter feeds. The last big announcement of their show was that of “Project Natal”, their answer to this whole motion-control bug. “Project Natal” is obviously still in its infancy, but the technology looks very promising and its potential use for games, specifically adventure games and RPGs, is quite intriguing. I’m all for the exploration of these new motion-controls, but if gaming ever goes completely controller-less, I’ll have to say “goodbye” to gaming. Innovation is a key to keeping things interesting and fresh, but that doesn’t mean we have to completely disregard the old way of doing something.

There were a few absences from the Microsoft press conference, including no mention of Rare at all. I did find it a bit odd (and disappointing) that Rare was nowhere to be found, but it is highly probable that they are behind much of the workings of “Project Natal”. There was also no mention of the new upcoming GTAIV DLC, The Ballad of Gay Tony, nothing on XNA Community Games, and no mention of the new Zune. It’s a bit surprising that none of these topics were mentioned and I was particularly disappointed with the lack of anything XNA related at all. It is also important to mention that while it wasn’t mentioned during the press conference, Microsoft did announce that they would start selling full retail games digitally through XBL. This service will be called “Games on Demand” and will launch in August with such games as Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, and Bioshock.

We discuss it all, from the announcements of Left 4 Dead 2 and Crackdown 2, all the way to a bunch of crap about Facebook and Twitter. We hope you enjoy our extra special, tiny edition of Distributed Failure and look forward to another episode tomorrow! Cheers.

What are the plans for Distributed Failure (and Pixelated Sausage) during E3 you ask. The plan is to do a show each day of E3 and post them on the same day of recording. These episodes will likely be shorter than usual, probably running about 30-45 minutes. We will have a "real" show coming out this weekend, along with a very special guest if everything goes according to plan. I'm quite excited for E3 this year and hopefully you are too!

Now it's time for some sausage discussion. I'm finally getting to the point where I'm going to have a lot of free time to get back to writing on a consistent basis. My first post not relating to the podcast will be a review of Up (the film, not the game). I have also finished putting together The Craplop EP1: Two Worlds, but since I will be using the same feed as DF; I won't be uploading the episode until sometime next week. I don't want people to get confused while looking for DF and I also don't want to see The Craplog get lost in all these E3 shenanigans.

I also have some ideas that may bring about a lot of changes to the site, but those would be way down the road at the moment. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the extra abundance of Distributed Failure this week and now let's rock the biznitch that is E3! This week's "What We've Been Playing" includes inFamous, Saint's Row 2, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Terminator Salvation, Bionic Commando, UFC 2009 Undisputed, Wallace & Gromit: Fright of the Bumblebees, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and much more! We follow that up with some gaming news including the rumors of Apple joining the console market, the Kojima countdown bullshit, and the official announcement of the new GTAIV DLC.

We end the show with a rather decent sized sausage dump and it's rather delicious this week. We discuss stupid McDonald's commercials, our personal thoughts on swearing, a few recent films and the weirdos you'll find in the state of Indiana. We also can't help but talk about Netflix once again...why the service gives me the desire to watch so much crap will always escape me.Hope you enjoy the show and don't forget to rate us on iTunes!

DF #59: Sony Hates Us

Subscribe to Distributed Failure on iTunes

Question for next week: What has surprised you at E3 this year?

He may come back down the road, but for the time being he will no longer be pooping on air for your listening pleasure. We're sure as hell going to miss him and hopefully he hasn't been scarred too deeply from chatting with us for all these weeks. Here's to you Gus Yoo, the man best known for his poo, you were one of a kind!

We start this week's show like every other show (big surprise?) with "What We've Been Playing" and discuss such games as Bionic Commando, inFamous, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Resistance: Fall of Man, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Wheelman, and much more! We follow that up with some gaming news including the leaked trailer for "Project Trico", the news of Atlus bring Demon's Souls stateside, and more. We end the show with a tiny dump of sausage and can only think to plug my sausage of pixelation.

The show was a little "wack" this week due to all the crizzle-crap that went down, but it still turned out to be an alright episode. Stay tuned for a more upbeat episode next week...who knows, we may even have a special guest! All I can say is that it looks pretty damn legit and I hope it's real because I love the premise of what I've seen. Having a companion throughout the game that can't directly talk to the protagonist is really appealing. It reminds me of all those old "human and animal" companion flicks that I used to love as a kid, as well as slightly reminding me of how a character like Wall-E is forced to use other means in order to expression emotion since he cannot speak.

I also just want to say that I hope this trailer is from an early build of the game because it didn't impress me graphically. I'm not saying it looks bad by any means, but it didn't "wow" me like I'd expect from Team ICO, not to mention the fact that this game has been in development for so long. Enough jibber-jabber from moi, enjoy the trailer below!

This game, and the fact that it exists, truly disgusts me. The same reason that I don't care for the cable television station B.E.T.(Black Entertainment Television) is the same reason as to why I dislike this game (moreso the idea) so much. It just bugs me that the race card is thrown around so easily and yet there's nothing wrong with an "All African-American TV channel" or "All African-American video game". Imagine how much controversy would come if someone tried to make a White Entertainment Television (W.E.T.) channel. Maybe it's just me, but I personally find this type of seclusion annoying and hypocritical.

Black College Football the Xperience(X360) on Gamestop

After that, we have a short segment of Gus and myself talking about Patapon 2 and wonders/horrors of Netflix. This is all due to Gus' attempt at becoming a "rockstar" up in good ol' Canada, but we all know that he uses the bathroom way too frequently to ever make it in the music business.

This week's "What We've Been Playing" features a wide range of games including Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Rune Factory: Frontier, Patapon 2, Plants vs. Zombies, Legendary, Hellboy: The Science of Evil, and much more! We follow that up with some gaming news including the closure of Factor 5 studios and the possible announcement of a "slim" PS3. After that, we dive into the "Sausage Dump" and chat up some movies, as well as the Lost finale. I hope you enjoy the show and don't forget to rate us on iTunes!

DF #57: My Patapon is Sacred Too

Subscribe to Distributed Failure on iTunes

Question for next week: What does "chit" more closely resemble..."shit" or "clit"?
