We are in the midst of a number of conversations with companies about their projects. We are thankful for the opportunity to present our solutions. Our team will undoubtedly provide the best possible services for those clients once we are awarded the business.

It will be interesting to see how the economy affects the number of companies that have the advertising budgets for online marketing. To this point, we have seen a trend of business owners looking to update or re purpose their websites to serve their business needs better. Websites are now being considered as a vital stream of leads more so than previous years. Companies are expecting more performance from their websites in terms of conversion of traffic to actual sales or qualified leads.

Our solutions have laid the groundwork for clients to establish a better rate of conversion along with the growth in the amount of traffic that arrives from the search engines. Targeted marketing has provided an improved environment for bringing more qualified traffic to the site. This qualified traffic consists of website visitors that have found our client sites on the search engines through the most relevant keywords. Our purpose in optimizing client sites is to position client brands on the search engines for the most relevant terms that consumers use for searching product and service solutions for their needs.

We look forward to helping our existing clients have more successful and effective Search Engine Marketing campaigns. We also welcome the opportunity to bring results to new clients.

Internet Explorer 7.0 Sucks

I know this is not a new thought, but I've finally had it with that browser. Here goes:

Convenientarians are those people that are quick to tell others about their beliefs or even how others should act or deal with a certain situation, but when it comes to applying the same advice to their own lives they are far doing what they tell others to do. It's all about how others should act or believe, but when it comes to them whatever they say is what is right for them at the moment. How convenient!

I know a few convenientarians...in fact, I lived as a convenientarian for many years.

It's a strange world that we live in. Far too much selfishness. And that's all I have to say about that.

Have a great weekend.

Project Updates

We are working on completing some Phase I items for Service-Connected (http://www.service-connected.com/) and that beta version of the site will be completed within the next week.

The Emergency Response ID Card (http://www.eridcard.com/) project is underway as well. The design has been finalized and approved and we are currently in the mockup stage to show the client what the different functional pages of the site will look like. This is also Phase I of the ERID project. The client has plans for additional service offerings through the site to be delivered at various stages in the next 3-5 years.

An agreement was reached with Foothills Acceleration & Sports Training (FAST® - http://www.fast-training.com/) for the design and development of a new site specifically for the FAST® services offered by Foothills Sports Medicine. That project will begin soon. We have also been discussing the Search Enginge Marketing (SEM) strategy for the FAST® site and plans for a SEM program are near completion.

Final build-out of the AZ Skin Aesthetics website (http://www.azskinaesthetics.com/) is in process as well. We have an approved design and have been given the majority of content needed to complete the site. The site should be completed within 2 weeks.

Research and implementation for the initial stages of the SEM program for ExecuTrain West (http://www.executrainwest.com/) have been completed. The keyword discovery yielded a set of keyphrases with decent search numbers. The keywords have been put in place. This client had very little optimization done to their site, so the program will provide more favorable placement and better search engine visibility.

We are in discussions with several other clients for varying types of projects including; SEM, business productivity tools, web design & development.

pixel effects client to appear on HGTV!

One of our clients will appear in the October 15, 2007 episode of Designer's Challenge on HGTV.

Cindy Atchley will be featured on the show, which pits three designers against each other to compete for the chance to remodel a room in a house, on Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m.

Her website was found by the HGTV staff doing searches for remodeling companies in Arizona. We have taken our search engine marketing strategies another step further to create our search engine reputation management programs. The programs are designed to manage the online reputations of company brands and maintain consumer confidence in those brands.

There are instances where a company brand or reputation may be attacked by malicious attempts. Those attacks seek to reduce consumer confidence in the company brand. Our services work to protect the brand and the search engine listings related to the brand.

The programs are also designed to manage the reputations of the management team members of our client companies. Consumer confidence can be affected by the opinions regarding company officials. Many time malicious attacks are focused on the individual members of the company, not just the company brand.

Any negative reputation will have an affect on overall sales. Our programs work to maintain a high level of consumer confidence regarding the company brands and the leadership. The end result is the protection of the brand to reduce the risk of any decreases in sales through any and all sales channels.

Contact our team for more information about search engine reputation management and how search engine listings can affect your business or visit our website for more information: pixel effects search engine reputation management programs

Mommy's First Ultrasound

We had the first ultrasound a couple of weeks back. I got my certificate for Christmas (Thank you, David & Sarah) and I set out to find my new pair of shoes (a few months after Christmas to avoid the crowds).

A little background on me and workout shoes. I'm extremely picky when it comes to workout shoes. Dress shoes, casual shoes....whatever, but workout shoes have to be perfect. I go for comfort more than for looks or even price.

So, back to the shoe adventure. My wife & I visited at least 5 different places looking for the right workout shoes. I tried on countless pairs of shoes only to have them be too tight near the toes or uncomfortable in the heel.

We make our way over to Sports Authority and to their shoe department we go. The story was pretty much the same. Shoes were not comfortable, so I looked around a bit more and saw the big, bold Nike shoe display. There were select pairs of shoes there, so I looked at them and liked the way one pair looked. Then I saw the price and thought I would just find a less expensive pair that was comfortable enough for me to deal with. My wife convinced me to try the Nike shoes on, so I did. They fit perfectly. I decided to buy them and was happy to find the perfect shoe...the Nike Shox TL3.

I've had the shoes for nearly 10 months now and they still look great:

There's one major problem with them though. The soles are tearing in an area that is shaped like a 'v' between different sections of the sole (you can see the 'v' shape in the picture above). And below you can see how the shoes are coming apart:

I've tried contacting Nike on several occasions and have yet to hear back from them. I've sent numerous e-mails to them through their customer service form on their website, I've been on hold so long I just can't take it any more...and I never get any resolution from Nike. I took the shoes into Sports Authority to show them the problem and they can't help me because the store has a 30 day return policy. This is more of a Nike product defect issue anyway, so I don't have a problem with the store policy.

I've been looking online for other information about the problem with Nike Shox TL3 product defects and found several people had the same issue. When they were finally able to speak with someone from Nike, they were told that they did not purchase a Nike brand product and Nike customer service refused to help them. The others dealing with the same issue were told that the product they purchased was a "knock-off" product, not a genuine Nike product and Nike would not honor any policy regarding their products for that reason. How could this be, when they too purchased their Nike product from authorized Nike retailers? What do we consumers need to do in order to get these companies to support the products they manufacture? What proof do they need? Where will it end?

Here is the product label:

It's extremely disappointing to me that Nike had taken such a poor stance on supporting their products and offering such poor customer service and absolutely no product support. I have been buying Nike products for over 25 years now and feel that their products are becoming sub-standard and their styles are degrading with each new year. I looked at the newer model of Nike running and training shoes and did not like one single pair of them. They have lost my business.

What is unfortunate is that I was finally happy with a Nike product again. I had been wearing New Balance workout shoes for nearly 10 years because the Nike product couldn't compete with the comfort, durability and price of the New Balance products. I thought the new pair of Nike Shox TL3 would finally be the shoe that brought me back to Nike. They were for a while until Nike customer service or lack there of ruined the experience for me.

I need to find a new pair of workout shoes, because the Nike Shox TL3 shoes that I have now don't support my feet the way they should. I can hear and feel the broken sole shifting when I walk in them, let alone exercise in them.

This next time around, I'm going to skip over the Nike products altogether. I'm thankful there are brands out there like New Balance that make quality products that last. Incidentally, none of the New Balance shoes that I have owned had ever had a defect. Even when I got rid of them, there were in decent shape for shoes that had been put through what I put my workout shoes through. They usually retire from workout shoe duty and become my home improvement, dog park & general messy activity shoes. Too bad the Nike Shox TL3 shoes are going right in the trash...or maybe they would make a good dog toy. My 2 Rotties would probably love to rip them apart.

I'm also glad there are other fitness clothing brands out there like Under Armour. Their products are far superior to Nike fitness clothing as well.

Bibliopracticalophobia

I've discovered a new phobia...and am the first confirmed case in the State of Arizona and in the United States.

The condition is know as bibliopracticalophobia, which is the fear of applying biblical doctrine to one's life for fear that they may have to change their ways.

I'll admit it, I'm afraid that I'll have to give up control of my life and not be able to have any fun.

Maybe it's not a phobia after all, but rather just plain laziness and lack of discipline. It's all about Mimi. Mimi is our 6 year old Miniature Daschund. She passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2006.

The Emancipation of Mimi is all about her being set free from the pain she was suffering through the last few months of her life. Mimi was blind and was having 4 - 5 seizures a day.

It all started when we took her to a local vet's office to get a teeth cleaning. We were afraid that she could develop an infection from all the gunk built up on and in between her teeth. Her breath was pretty foul, but even so we let her get up close to our faces to say hello. Shad had a loose tooth as well, so that needed to be extracted.

We took her in and got her back and she was never the same since. She came home and seemed to be recovering from the anesthetic they gave her. She seemed dizzy and couldn't focus on objects very well.

A couple days had passed and we noticed that she was having more and more trouble seeing things. Mind you, this is a dog that could catch a snack in mid-air or track a ball down like the way a hawk swoops down to snatch its prey. We called the vet and they said to bring her back in. Their ingenious test to check for blindness was to take her out into the light and say, "yep, her pupils are dilated and won't constrict." After the visit to Dr. Obvious, we took her to our primary vet who said we should see a specialist.

We began treating Mimi with some holistic treatments in the attempt to help her overcome whatever it was that she was dealing with. She began having seizures and the number of seizures increased with each passing day. The ophthalmologist examined her and found that her eyes were perfectly healthy, so we were told to take her to a neurologist. We took her to our primary vet again to get a full blood panel and to get something to help with the ever increasing seizures.

Unfortunately, Mimi passed away before we could ever get any test results to find out what else we could do for her. She began having consistent seizures, one after the other and her body decided it had had enough. We got her to an emergency hospital and the vet told us she had begun to go into cardiac arrest. We were allowed to be with her and she was gone.

Mimi is finally free of the pain and suffering she was going through. I think she decided to spare us from all the pain we were feeling seeing her go through it. She always came to us for comfort and in the end she sought comfort for us. It is not easy to let her go, but we knew it was best for her. She will be missed tremendously, but never forgotten.

Mimi came into our home as a tiny little thing, no bigger than the palm of my hand. She had quite the attitude and was the alpha dog no matter how many dogs were around or how big they were...ask the dogs at the dog park...or our 2 Rotties that always took orders from her. Mimi will always be with us and we are thankful for the time we got to share with her.

Here are a few pictures of her from the last year or so:

Baron, Kira & Rosco miss you too. We will always have our memories of you and the silly things you used to do. You were a beggar and a user, but we always gave in and let you clean off a plate or two. You always loved it when Grandma came over, because you knew you would get even more treats and people food. You even showed Grandma where the treat jar had been moved to. You went on trips with us and Momma took you everywhere with her...even into stores and restaurants tucked in her purse. We had a lot of fun playing with the squeaky ball and the feather duster. Rest now and we will take comfort knowing that your suffering is all over.

WE LOVE YOU MIMI....

New Identity

pixel effects is in the process of launching its new company identity. It has been a decade since the early beginnings of the idea for pixel effects. What started out as a small side project to supplement income has grown into a full-time endeavor. We are fortunate in our growth and hope that pattern remains a constant in our business. To mark the 10 year anniversary of the idea behind pixel effects, we have developed a new company identity:

A new website is in the works to accompany the new identity. The new site will reflect the new company identity as well as offer more detail about the services we offer. Our development capabilities have grown over the last few years, so our website needs to indicate the greater degree of skill we can offer our clients.
The site will also highlight our web applications which are customized to fit a any business / industry. These custom web applications include, but are not limited to (OMPS) Online Management Project Systems, (BPT) Business Productivity Tools, Database Connected Forms, Content Management, Database Modules & Dynamic Newsletters. There are no limits to what we can develop to provide business management and / or productivity tools to our clients.

Custom Shopping Carts / Order Processing
Custom Shopping Carts are now highly requested & have become one of our specialties, so our new site will reflect that. Our clients seek more than just an out of box shopping cart in which they need to adapt their information to work within. Each e-commerce solution is designed specifically for each clients products or differing product lines, which makes managing the products and orders much more simplified and specialized to the client's specifications.

We have also been developing customized order processing systems for our clients. These system are designed to complete the order fulfillment process in a similar manner to the current order fulfillment processes used by our client's business. Some of the systems are fully automated with minimal need for input by our clients. The order processing systems include e-mail notification systems, order tracking and order finalization. Our systems can be designed and developed to fit the needs of our clients.

Search Marketing Programs (SMP)
The greatest area of growth in our skill set will also become a focal point of our services on the website. Our Search Marketing Programs (SMP) have been very successful, especially in the past couple of years. Our SMP's are aggressive, effective & ethical. What does this mean for you as our client....clean search marketing. So many SM companies miss the boat with old ideologies that base all of the importance on lots and lots of keywords. We don't participate in practices such as link spamming, keyword spamming or any other unethical tactics frowned upon by search engines. Our SMP techniques adapt to the changing environment of search engines and what elements of a website are considered of greatest value and importance for placement. Our plans include the monthly research, analysis and code modifications needed to maintain or improve placement on the search engines. However, our experience has shown us that there is more to having a successful website than just participating in a search marketing program. Effective Search Marketing begins with a professionally designed & developed website. Search Engine Optimization is substantial part of a properly developed website. Simply submitting your website..will do more harm than good. Search Marketing is the final component to keeping you climbing the SE & in top placement. Choose your SM company wisely...Ask us questions...and we will show you why you should leave it to the experts.

Our philosophy in Search Marketing is "We'll bring it....you close it...". That means we will work hard to drive traffic to your site using our SMP's, however it is up to you as business owner to have the elements of a website that will attract site visitors, get them to come back, or allow them to complete a sale or process while there.

The new site should be launched in the next month, so be on the look out for it. Thank you for 10 years of growth and education. We look forward to many more years of creating useful tools for our clients and for internet users around the world.

Complete Content Management Systems

We recently launched a site for a long-standing client, Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy, that selected pixel effects to re-design their site. This time around they wanted a complete content management system that allowed them to add or edit text and images at their convenience. The system we designed and built for them also allows them to add new locations to the navigation (since they have 5 locations now and plan to have 8 by the end of 2006). The client can also add, modify or delete any of the content pages of their site. So, if they add new services...they can create a page for those services or if they want to provide information about their treatment, physical therapy or training services they have the ability to create new pages to do so. The content management system allows the client the ability to add photos to the content areas and place them where they choose.

The system also includes a PDF management system for newsletters and patient forms. Those documents can be kept up-to-date by simply uploading the newest version of the document...or they can archive their newsletters to allow site visitors access to past issues.

The website URL is: www.foothillsrehab.com

Search Marketing Programs

We've been doing quite a bit of research on search marketing over the last couple of years. Our search marketing programs are bringing positive results to our clients. Our goal is to continue to improve upon the techniques we use to further benefit our clients and to become a well established search marketing solutions provider for small companies to large corporations.

Search Marketing isn't just submitting a website to the search engines. There are far more things that need to be done in order for the submissions to be effective. One major element is search engine optimization. Improper search engine optimization (SEO) can hinder your search engine marketing efforts. The techniques we apply are based on the current search marketing environment.

In addition to marketing your website, you should also evaluate the functionality of your website. If you have large numbers of site visitors but do not convert those visits to sales or leads, then your site is not effective. Our design & web application development solutions provide you with a more efficient method of converting site visitors into sales. We have several different tools available to help you retain and convert site traffic.

For more information about any of our services contact us. We'll be happy to design a complete solution for your website.

Entrepreneur Magazine lists gorage.com as an alternative to eBay

Entrepreneur Magazine prints a publication dedicated to start-ups titled appropriately enough: Entrepreneur StartUps.

gorage.com is mentioned in one of their feature articles. The article in the magazine is about sites that are of value to entrepreneurs, one of which is gorage.com. They do a great job explaining the idea behind gorage.com and the costs associated with using the site.

Entrepreneur.com online article gorage.com is mentioned on page three of the article.

Look for future articles about gorage.com in Entrepreneur publications as we continue to make the site more effective for small business owners, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts.

Streaming Media & Rich Content

I just got a copy of the Streaming Media magazine and thumbed through it yesterday. What really strikes me as odd, is the fact there were no names of contributors that I recognized. I'm not saying I know much about the streaming business any more, since it's been nearly 5 years since I did any webcasting. What I find odd is that none of the brightest people in the early infancy of the industry are still around.

I'm talking about the group of people that I used to work with at webcasts.com. That group pioneered much of what is commonplace today in the streaming industry. In my opinion we were 5 years ahead of our time when we started...and now to look at what the industry is doing I would say that statement is correct. We had the products to deliver rich media and were working on several areas to really make it effective...until the unthinkable. That's topic for a whole other post, so I'll save it.

The "last mile" has come a long way since the days of webcasts.com and many more people are on broadband connections...even cell phones are starting to come into play. I can't help but to wonder how many of the current streaming (webcasting) companies out there got their ideas from the products created by the most talented group of people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

It saddens me to think that their zest for the industry was ripped away from them only to have them seek other endeavors. The only thing I can say to that is the streaming industry is at a loss...and has no idea what advances could have been.

Here's to those great days (albeit long stressful days and nights getting things working) at webcasts.com and to pioneering spirits paving the way for things to come.

How could I forget

Tomorrow is the Phoenix Supercross!!!

If I can muster up the strength, I'll write a race report.

Check out the Supercross website for more info.

Where has time gone?

They say that time flies when you're having fun. Why is it that time disappears when you are up to your elbows in things to do. I beginning to firmly believe the adage "Be careful what you wish for."

There was a time when I was struggling to find work and spent a good deal of time just laying in bed not wanting to face the day. Now, I have plenty of work to do...and need to find more efficient means of time management.

Here's a quick run down of things that have happened in last few months since my last post:

Business is still moving along. We closed some projects and are working on others. We had a chance at a company with some widely known products...but they chose another company. Oh well, part of business.

We took on a professional supercross team - CrossX. That has been going very well and we are happy to add another client in that industry to our growing list.

We'll be launching some additional sites soon and may even find the time to redesign and re-work our own website this year.

Not much else beyond that. Jennifer & I are considering selling our house to find another, then maybe start having children and raising a family. Negotiations pending.

Hope everyone had a joyful Christmas and a safe New Year's celebration.

Until next time....
