LEGOLAND Hotel Windsor (United Kingdom): Apart from Billund (Denmark) and California (USA), this image of LEGOLAND Hotel Windsor offers us a sneak peek into what is in store for LEGOLAND Hotel at Nusajaya Johor, Malaysia. It will be the fourth LEGOLAND Hotel and the very first in Asia. The ground work for the Hotel began last month.
LEGOLAND Hotel at Nusajaya Johor will be the fourth LEGOLAND Hotel to open and the very first in Asia. The ground work for the Hotel began last month. Other LEGOLAND Hotels are located in Billund (Denmark), Windsor (United Kingdom) and a third will open in California in the USA in 2013.

LEGOLAND Hotel Windsor (United Kingdom): From the spectacular entrance right through to the themed rooms, the colour, fun and interactivity of LEGO is stamped throughout LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia, scheduled to be opened in 2014.

Ng Ah Sio Bakuteh at Raspura Masters, Marina Bay Sands

I remember I wrote about my experience having Ng Ah Sio, Singapore’s Best Bakuteh in Rangoon Road last year. That was in Rangoon Road and little did I know that they have another outlet in Marina Bay Sands.

What is bakuteh?

As long as I can recall, bakuteh is originated from Malaysia. The real term of bakuteh is “pork ribs tea” in Chinese Hokkien dialect. Bakuteh is best to be taken in the morning so you have enough energy for the day. That’s why in my early days, I remember taxi drivers will have bakuteh in the wee hours of the morning before sunrise. Like I blogged before, bakuteh has a few variations, Singapore’s version is slightly hotter with pepper. Bakuteh is herbal soup cooked with pork ribs, pork meat and pork intestines. It is best to have with “taufupok” and “you tiao” accompanied with either white or “oil” (butter) rice.

Back to Singapore as we were shopping in Marina Bay Sands, we stumbled upon the Raspura Masters a food court. We needed a quick bite and we settled with Ng Ah Sio Bakuteh.

Braised Beancurd Taupok and Peanuts Combo was the starter. The taupok is different with the ones in Malaysia and the taste of the peanuts is similar with the titbits in many Chinese wedding dinners.

Blanched Lettuce with superior say glazed. In layman terms, steamed lettuce and glazed with soy sauce. I would prefer the lettuce glazed with oyster sauce though.

Signature Pork Ribs Soup was the star of the night. For those who enjoy Klang thick bakuteh soup, you might not enjoy this. I must say every variation has its own uniqueness. Like my previous review, Ng Ah Sio’s version of bakuteh soup is bland with lots of indications of hot pepper.

For the whole she bang, it was only S$ 19.80, we have no complains on that. Love it or hate it, Ng Ah Sio Bakuteh still remain the favourites among the locals.

Ng Ah Sio’s Bakuteh is located at Raspura Masters, Marina Bay Sands.

If you are in Hobart, you definitely will visit Constitution Dock. Nicknamed as “Fish Market” of Hobart, Tasmania, there is a number of seafood restaurants parked in Constitution Dock. Well known for its seafood restaurants, I went there for a different reason. I went for desserts.

The time was in between lunch and dinner and I can’t stuff myself for another seafood feast. I opted for a simple dessert tea time with fellow Malaysian travelers, Rachel and Kenix.

The Deep is hidden with the seafood restaurants in Mures.

We went to The Deep is located inside Mures, The Lower Deck at Victoria Dock or Constitution Dock. I need some research and The Deep has amazing reviews on its desserts especially their ice creams.

I had the Oreo Cookies Ice Cream with a baby size of A$ 2 (RM 6 / US 2). A baby size in Australia is almost a large size in Malaysia. As expected the ice cream was creamy and heavenly with hints of crushed Oreo cookies.

The girls ordered the Carrot Cake with Spearmint Choc Ice Chips Cream for A$ 4.5 (RM 13.5 / US 4.5). All the cake slices came with either cream or ice cream. The carrot cake was soft while the Spearmint Choc Ice Cream was minty with hints of chocolate chips.

Lastly, how about a Pecan Pie with Caramel and Choc Chips Ice Cream? I can’t recall when the last time I had a Pecan Pie but it wasn’t as creamy and yummy as this one. The ice cream was indulged with caramel and hints of chocolate chips. This was A$ 4.5 (RM 13.5 / US 4.5).

We enjoyed ourselves inside a cool air conditioned café enjoying the breathtaking view of the dock and the ultimate blue sky. We loved this place, Constitution Dock in Hobart, Tasmania Australia. Love Tasmania!

We heard so much about Sea Shepherd or SeaSheperd.org on its battle with whalers around the world. Have we ever seen one of its vessels? I have recently in Constitution Deck, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

I thought it was a warship as it looks like one. Somehow it didn’t make sense as how can a warship docked on a public docking area? Well as I went closer, it was the Bob Cat, one of the vessels for Sea Shepherd Conservation Organization.

Who is Sea Shepherd Conservation Organization?

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was formally incorporated in the United States in 1981 in the state of Oregon. Previous to this, the idea of Sea Shepherd was formed when Captain Paul Watson founded the Earth Force Society in 1977 in Vancouver BC, Canada. The original mandate of both organizations was marine mammal protection and conservation with an immediate goal of shutting down illegal whaling and sealing operations, but Sea Shepherd later expanded its mission to include all marine wildlife.

In 1978, with financial support from Cleveland Amory of the Fund for Animals, the Society purchased its first ship (a British sea trawler Westella) and renamed it the Sea Shepherd. Its first mission was to sail to the ice floes of Eastern Canada to interfere with the annual killing of baby harp seals known as whitecoats. In the same year, the Sea Shepherd hunted down and rammed the notorious prolific pirate whaler the Sierra in a Portugal harbor ending its infamous career as the scourge of the seas.

Since those early days, Sea Shepherd has embarked on over 200 voyages covering many of the world’s oceans and defending and saving defenseless marine life all along the way. – SeaSheperd.org

Check out our exclusive stock pictures at Humpback Whale Pictures from Antarctica: 4x4WorldExplorer.com 2010 Patagonia-Antarctica Adventurel. Their mission is to protect whales like this from the whalers.
Although I thought I was lucky to bump into one of its vessels but my luck ran out as the visiting hours for the vessel was over.

It was a close call as it was as close as I can get onto the vessel but probably it will be another time for such chance. Hope you all like my pictures of Bob Cat as my battery ran flat after these pictures.

SeaSheperd.org is one of the most active anti-whaling organizations with many of its battles with whalers make headlines to many newspapers around the world.

Want to have something different for lunch? Why not French lunch cuisine with wine at Millesime. Millesime? Yes, it is a French restaurant located at Menara Kenchana Petroleum, Solaris Dutamas. It is beside Publika, now you get the idea?

The restaurant is located at LG facing the outer ring road, you need to enter Menara Kenchana Petroleum building and go to the Lower Ground level, exit the building and turn left. Keep on walking you will reach the beautiful restaurant on your left.

It is a quiet and cozy restaurant, an ideal place for dates and business lunches. The beauty of having lunch in Millesime is they don’t have a fix menu. The lunch menu changes every day and it depends on the chef’s daily shopping cart. Expect the Chef’s best recommendation menu daily and have the unexpected!

Firstly it was fresh baguette with butter. The baguette was soft and delicate, loved it.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild VDP Chardonnay

It was a wine pairing lunch and they started off with Baron Philippe de Rothschild VDP Chardonnay. The chardonnay will be paired with the first starter, the Tartare of Yellow Fin Tuna.

Tartare of Yellow Fin Tuna was decorated with raspberry with Fennel Salad. The tuna chunks were fresh and it blends well with the salad. The portion was just nice and it was like a teaser to us.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild VDP Merlot

We thought the Baron Philippe de Rothschild VDP Merlot was rich and tasty. It will be paired with Bresaola of Beef on Poached celery flan with wilted spinach.

Bresaola of Beef on Poached celery flan with wilted spinach. This might looks simple but it was quite complicated. The beef and the spinach were salty but it was well balanced with the sauce and of the Merlot. It was well done.

Crustacean oil Roasted Green garoupa Fillet.

Crustacean oil Roasted Green Garoupa Fillet. The most important element for a fish based dish is the freshness of the fish. Instead of the usual pan fried, the green garoupa fillet was roasted to perfection. The sauce was not for show, it blends well with the fish and went well with exotic fish roe and French long beans. The sauce is concentrated lobster flavour.

Duck confit Tian, Parsley crust, and Truffle sauce.

Duck confit Tian, Parsley crust, and Truffle sauce. We got a little surprised by this. We assumed the duck confit came with the whole duck leg. Instead they served the shredded duck confit with tian, parsley crust and truffle sauce. it was a different style of cooking, no problem for us. You get a bit of crunchiness due to the crust and it is important to mix all the flavours together for this. Truffle sauce was marvellous.

Silver Rum Macerated Strawberry Pastilla

Silver Rum Macerated Strawberry Pastilla was the dessert of the day. Triangle wrapped filo pastry was stuffed with macerated strawberry with hints flavour of rum and delicately topped with icing sugar. Not forgetting also the creamy ice cream with rolled white chocolate.

The lunch will not be over without a great cuppa of hot coffee.

If you wondering how much is these exquisite French wine pairing lunch, it is only from RM 120 (US 40) net per person inclusive of the lovely wines.

Quite and cosy environment, very well trained staffs and good food. Please do make a reservation to avoid disappointment as the restaurant is usually packed for their set lunch.

Sukiya Restaurant Review Namba Osaka Japan

If you are like us taking the AirAsiaX flight to Kansai International Airport from LCCT Malaysia, you will reach there late. It takes another 40 min by car to reach Osaka and by that time, you will be hungry.

We checked in at Smile Hotel Namba and we asked the receptionist for restaurants and they were everywhere near the hotel. We chose Sukiya Restaurant for our supper.

On top of their attractive menu as I can’t read Japanese and Rachel can picked up a few Kanji (Chinese) words, the pricing in Sukiya Restaurant was attractive or cost effective.

I ordered the Rice with Stew Beef Bowl. Depending on sizes, the Rice with Stew Beef Bowl starts at 230 Yen (RM 10 / US 3.30) and the extra large size will cost at 610 Yen (RM 24 / US 8). I ordered the medium size at 380 Yen (RM 15 / US 5) and it was very reasonable considering the portion. Since I have explained the prices of the food in Sukiya, you might wonder isn’t food in Japan is expensive? Well, apparently it is not and cheaper than we expected.

Believe it or not, the Rice with Stew Beef Bowl is one of the best beef rice I had in the longest time I can remember. They were really generous with the beef and their special stew sauce was mouth-watering.

Then we ordered the Jade Green Onion Beef Bowl. This is 100 Yen more expensive than the usual because of the additional egg.

How to eat this? Crack the egg and let the raw egg infused with the Jade Green Onion Beef Bowl. Isn’t this reminds you of raw egg with Nato?

Well, the end result was scrumptious beef rice topped with fresh green spring onion with raw egg. This was tasteful and it was only 480 Yen ( RM 19 / US 8.30). We love their fresh crunchy jade green spring onion, we don’t think we have it here in Malaysia.

Lastly, we ordered the Japanese Curry Chicken rice. For those who indulged with Japanese curry, the Japanese curry has a very strong and distinctive curry fragrant. For 530 Yen ( RM 21 / US 7) we had one very enticing Japanese Curry Chicken Rice. I know my sister would love this as the curry was palatable.

Our first meal in Japan turned out to be more than we expected. Sukiya restaurant is a chain of restaurants and also a direct competitor to Yoshinoya as we were informed. Sukiya restaurants are almost everywhere in Kansai Japan. For more info you can check out their website (in Japanese) at http://www.sukiya.jp

By the way green tea is Free Of Charge!

Borderless Satun Thailand

We often heard about Thai border towns like Golok and Dannok but many might never heard of Satun. Yes, it’s Satun and not Saturn, please. It shares the border of town Wang Kelian of Malaysian state Perlis.

The uniqueness of Satun and Wang Kelian is it is borderless and you don’t need a passport to enter both towns. It is an agreement made by Malaysia and Thailand for years and it benefited both countries economically.

The Satun province is located on the Malay Peninsula, on the shore of the Andaman Sea. It is separated from Songkhla Province by the Nakhon Si Thammarat mountain range, and from Malaysia by the Sankalakhiri mountains.

The Ko Tarutao and Ko Phetra marine national parks are part of the province. Close to the border with Malaysia is the Thale Ban National Park, a big freshwater swamp area. – Wikipedia.org

I was there late last year with Santai Travel Magazine and a group local media representatives and bloggers. With was 3bittersweetlemon.blogspot.com and annna.net. It was a 3D 2N trip to Perlis organized by Santai Travel Magazine and sponsored by Tourism Malaysia Perlis. It was my first official local travel trip to Perlis and I had fun.

We had a lengthy briefing at the Immigration Office at the Satun border. I’m not going to elaborate on that.

We walked over to the Thai side without any documents as I mentioned. It was just like crossing to the opposite side of the road.

As usual when we entered Satun, we were immediately hit by the “Thai effect” as stalls were selling Thai products and Thai food.

A little bit quick history of Satun. Satun was part of the Kedah state before it handed to the Siam (Thailand) as part of Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909.

For that, majority of residents in Satun are Muslims. Thus, most of the food in Satun is cooked by Muslims for Muslims.

One of the unique food must try is their glutinous rice (nasi pulut) with fried chicken. Like it or not, the combination actually blends well together.

Forget Chatime or Gongcha, try the local Satun own mixed drinks. These colourful drinks are commonly sweet and locals’ favourites.

If you always fancy with roti canai, try the Thai’s version of roti canai.

Thai’s version of roti canai is crispy and sweet. Pan fried with butter to crispiness and topped with sweet condensed milk, their version of roti canai can be addictive but beware, you might end up with sugar rush at the end of the day. Hence, you can always tone down on the sweetness when you order.

Food stall traders never stop impressed me in Satun. Check this out. It is a homemade waffle maker.

You choose and pick your own flavour for your waffle. This was delicious.

An hour in Satun was not enough. Should I rephrase, time is never enough in Thailand. It was sad to leave Amazing Thailand but it was good to go back to Malaysia Truly Asia. Lastly we thank Santai Magazine and Tourism Malaysia Perlis for the invite and the trip.

Ipoh On York Review, Sydney Australia

If you are one of those who love to indulge authentic Ipoh food, you can read on. This is a hidden gem in Sydney. The restaurant is only 3 months old and the queue is getting longer by day during lunch hour. Well, this is Ipoh On York on Lower Ground 89th York Street. Opened by Malaysian and cooked by Malaysians.

There is no secret that I have insider information on this restaurant, thanks to my dearest cousin in Sydney. The Malaysian food craze in Sydney is not something new. The success of Mamak in Chinatown had created more just than awareness but the rigid fact that Malaysian food are delicious.

Back to Ipoh On York, they sell most of the originals from Malaysia. From Hainanese chicken rice to nasi lemak and not also forgetting our popular satays. But the most popular of all is their curry laksa. It is their cream of the crops.

I ordered the Chicken Laksa of A$ 9.50 (RM 33 / US 11). I bet many Malaysians would complain about the pricing. Thus, you can’t compare the prices to the ones in Malaysia as it is a totally different ball game.

To be fair the Chicken Laksa comes with big portion. Rich with coconut milk and thick laksa paste, they were also generous with slices of chicken and tau fu pok (deep fried bean curd). Most notable ingredients missing are the bean sprouts and cockles.

I had a little chat with the chef and they told me it is near impossible to get fresh cockles. There are can cockles but the taste is incomparable with the fresh ones. I know where they come from.

Overall, the chicken laksa was as good as the ones in Malaysia. I dare to say it is better than some of the laksa stalls in Kuala Lumpur. It is just simply amazing to have the chance to savour authentic Malaysian food in Sydney. If you are looking for one like me, go Ipoh On York.

How to make a great trip in Tasmania? Start from Launceston and end it at Hobart and the best way of having the Tassie experience is by self-drive tour. Hence, you wouldn’t want to miss the beauty within the island.

I landed at the Launceston Airport in late afternoon after transiting at the Melbourne International Airport. There I was joined by other media representatives from Singapore, China and Hong Kong. Yes, it was a media trip and one of the biggest I have participated.

The first pit stop was the Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston, northern Tasmania.

The Cataract Gorge is a river gorge in Launceston, northern Tasmania, Australia and is one of the region’s premier tourist attractions. It is found at the lower section of the South Esk River. The earliest known European visitor to the site was William Collins, who discovered its entrance in 1804. – Wikipedia.org

Did you know that they have the World Longest Single Chairlift World Longest Single Chairlift? We wrote an article a few weeks go and you still can read about it at World Longest Single Chairlift at Launceston’s Basin Chairlift, Tasmania. The chairlift, built in 1972, has a total span of 457 m (1,499 ft).

There is a swimming pool near the Cataract Gorge Basin. It looks unreal having a pool beside the basin.
There is restaurant at the Cataract Gorge Basin by the name of The Basin Café and it has the best view of the Cataract Gorge Basin.

That’s me on the most right with Malaysian Discover Tasmania winners and Singapore blogger MelChoi.com

It was a sunny afternoon, bright and shine for a short walk. Short walks are extremely popular in Tasmania and there are dozens of recommended short walks within the island. One of the popular ones is the Enchanted Walk which you can read it about it at The Enchanted Walk at Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania

There are a few short walks in Cataract Gorge Reserve. There are pathways and signage everywhere so it was easy to walk around.

A view from the pathway, you can see the whole area and also the swimming pool from here.

We spotted a couple swimming in the river. It was a hot day indeed.

Another panoramic view from the pathway, picture is taken with Samsung NX-11 Panoramic mode. Camera nowadays do wonders.
We went to the Alexandra Bridge which was opened by Lady Edeline Strickland on November 29th 1904.

The beautiful suspension bridge hanged on top of the flowing South Esk River.

Fret not, even though it is more than 100 years old, the bridge is still intact and like new.

The calm South Esk river.

Another picture of Alexandra Bridge and South Esk River.

We didn’t walk far as we have limited time as we were rushing to check in to our hotel.

The chairlift on top with the South Esk river below.

The walk is approx 20 minute and the pathway is around the basin. There is no difficulty in this walk, very easy and no risk.

The Cataract Gorge Reserve is one of the places that you can picnic and enjoy the beauty of the basin. Not forgetting you can also dipping into the swimming pool during summer. There are a few walks in the area and you can try venture all of them. We will welcome feedbacks from your own experience.
