New Environmental Song Called “Frac Sand Blues”

Folk Rock Singer Songwriter Corey Koehler (aka me) has released an environmental song in his song-per-month campaign. The song is titled “Frac Sand Blues.”

The song is an attempt to raise awareness about the controversial practices of Frac Sand Mining and Natural Gas Fracking.

And please, don’t just take my word for it, make up your own mind. Click the links at the bottom of this post to learn more on Frac Sand Mining and Natural Gas Fracking.

I was able to catch a presentation of his Winona State University a month or so ago. He presented some very interesting data about the amount of “recoverable” natural gas and its importance relative to relieving us of our dependance on foreign suppliers.

From Homeless to Hero in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Inspiring Story)

A few weeks ago before the release of “When The Rain” I posted a video asking all of you if you or anyone you know have ever did something special to encourage someone who is having a tough time either physically or emotionally?

I received a few really great responses (thank you all) but one inspiring story really stood out. It was from friend and fan Scott Hoskins. His story is both very personal and very instructive. With his permission I am sharing it with you.

Scott’s Story

Here is a photo video of last years tornado in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At the time I was homeless (yes, that is correct). I was homeless for almost two years. I started attending Church with a friend and was asked if I wanted to go on a Mission trip to Alabama. Not working and feeling empty and lost, I said yes.

The overwhelming disaster that I found when we reached our destination was as if it where out of a movie. Just unbelievable destruction everywhere we turned. At the time I was feeling sorry for myself. I had no job, no home, nothing. My self worth was at an all time low.

Once I grasped that this trip was not about me and my situation, I realized that there where people in this city that had less than I did. They only had the dirt that was once their yard.

Through the grace of God and believers in me, my life was changed forever. The friendships that were formed from that week have blossomed into an everlasting memory. Not only was I able to help others rebuild their lives, but they also helped me to rebuild mine.

Now I see that I am some one important in the lives of others. My self worth is at an all time high because of the positive people that God has brought into my life. Never again will I loathe or feel sorry for myself. There is always someone who has it worse than I do.

By The Way

Scott told me that he has found a passion for writing and hopes to start a blog soon. I don’t know about you but after reading the above I am anxious to read more.

Since I love it when people discover their life’s passion (hell, we should celebrate it like we do for weddings or birthdays), I will be sure to let you know when he gets it up and running so we can help him spread the word.

Corey Koehler Releases New Single “When The Rain” ( A Get Well Soon Song )

Here is the latest song in my song-per-month campaign. The song is titled “When The Rain” and was inspired by a trip to the the hospital to visit my cousin who was going through a rough time health wise.

The theme is sort of a “get well soon” song and is meant to remind her (and everyone going through a rough time) that – in my opinion anyway – the bluest skies come after rain.

New Lyric Video for Change The World

Change The World Sketch by Tom Van Wyhe

You can never have enough creative friends and today I have a few great examples one in the form of a sketch and the other a lyric video.

First up is the image you see to your right. Out of the blue, a tear or so ago, my friend Tom Van Wyhe sent in a sketch for for “Change The World.”

Next, YouTube friend Samantha Parsons whipped up a lyric video (below).

I think she did a great job capturing the feeling of the song while at the same time integrating some pretty cool effects to display the lyrics.

Joshua Fields Millburn - He is a minimalist and blogs about focusing on what is REALLY important to you.

Chris Guillebeau - Aside from setting a goal to visit every country in the world (he’s almost there), he teaches people who to dominate the world via Art of Non-Conformity (bold but you’ll understand when you get there).

Julien Smith - Julien is basically like your conscience. Like a little drill sergeant on your shoulder telling you to get your ass moving. When you are slacking, stop by and read some of Julien’s writings. He’ll whip you into shape pretty quick.

Steve Earle - A comment he made in a American Songwriter interview is what sparked this whole song. The Big Bang moment if you will.

Ben Franklin - Aside from being one of my favorite historical figures, he penned a quote that fits quite nicely with this song:

“Hide not your talents, they for use were made, What’s a sundial in the shade?”
