A very special kokeshi

Finding a kokeshi in the Netherlands isn't easy. Finding a vintage kokeshi in a Dutch thriftshop..well, wasn't going to happen (I thought). But if you find that vintage kokeshi...in a Dutch thriftshop...and then give it away...well that's just more than fabulous. A while ago, when checking Instagram, I received a message and picture from Iris: that she found this kokeshi in a Dutch thriftshop and that I could have her, if I wanted. Well...geez, I had to overthink that....NOT! So, this sweet little girl came my way this week. With 12 dolls the kokeshi madness in our home now reached a new climax. Of course, this one is now extra special for me and I can't thank sweet Iris enough that she found this one and that she wanted to part from it.

If you think my collection is big, check out this ladies' photostream. Once in a while we share our tales about our quests for Japanese wooden dolls, I've learned so much from her about kokeshi. It's great to share one's mania with someone! ;-)

Een kokeshi in Nederland vinden, da's één. Om een vintage exemplaar te vinden in een kringloopwinkel, dat is schier onmogelijk (dacht ik). Maar om er een te vinden, in een kringloop en om die dan weg te geven..dat is werelds. Toen ik Instagram een tijdje geleden opende, zag ik een bericht van Iris staan: dat ze deze kokeshi had gevonden en of ik 'm hebben wilde? Tjonge...daar moest ik lang over nadenken. NOT. Dus, dit exemplaar nam deze week haar intrek bij ons. Met 12 poppen heeft mijn kokeshi bestand nu een nieuw record bereikt. Deze is dubbel bijzonder: omdat ze uit Nederland komt én omdat lieve Iris haar voor me meenam. Super bedankt!

Als je trouwens denkt dat mijn collectie groot is, kijk dan eens bij de verzameling van deze dame. Af en toe delen we onze verhalen over onze kokeshi zoektochten met elkaar, ik heb daarnaast enorm veel van haar geleerd over de poppen. Erg leuk om je manie met iemand te delen! ;-)

(Ons huis trouwens bleek deze week al in Flair te staan, één week na Ikea Magazine Live (zijn jullie me al zat?) Ik zal binnenkort de pagina's ook in mijn Flickr stream zetten!)

One of the main reasons my Etsy shop will stay closed for the upcoming Summer is that, after months of hard work, I'm now in the most important stage of this adventure of mine: the next couple of months I will be working on my business plan and thus on the official start-up of Planet Fur - the business (this will be just a workname of course ;-)). Making my critters takes an enormous amount of time and even though I love making them, I decided something had to be put on hold while working on my future plans. I will be back with my mounted heads ánd DIY deer kits though, at 8 September in Lommel, Belgium, at the garden of Yvonne's home. I was over the moon when she invited me to attend this event, I will be in the mighty company of such great women...oh gosh I can hardly wait!

Exciting times people! So many things to do, so little time. There's still much work and overthinking to be done before I dare to share them here...so please bear with me!

De Etsy winkel zal de komende zomer gesloten blijven en wel omdat ik, na maanden van voorbereiding, nu in de fase ben gekomen dat ik het officiële gedeelte van dit nieuwe avontuur moet gaan uitwerken: het schrijven van een business plan en daarna de officiële oprichting van Planet Fur - het bedrijf (dat zal slechts de werknaam blijven, haha). Het maken van mijn dierenhoofdjes is ontzettend leuk, maar ook enorm tijdrovend en er moest Iets op een lager pitje om tijd over te houden voor de rest van mijn to-do lijst. In september ben ik terug met mijn muurdieren én met de zelfmaakpakketjes en wel op 8 september in de tuin van lieve Yvonne die mij uitnodigde om aanwezig te zijn op de Yvestown Fair, gehouden in haar (ongetwijfeld) prachtige tuin in Lommel. Man, ik ben nu al over de maan (ze zeggen dat zo mooi in het Engels) over het feit dat ze mij vroeg mee te doen én dat ik een dag in het gezelschap van Grootse Creatieve Dames mag verkeren. Heel-veel-zin-in!

Spannende tijden dus. Zoveel te doen, zo weinig tijd. Er moet nog heel veel geschaafd en gedacht worden voordat ik ook maar iets durf te delen hier. Als je nog goede tips, links, advies of wat dan ook op bedrijfsgebied hebt: deel ze! Ik kan, als ondernemersgroentje, alle advies gebruiken die voorhanden is!

Snork Maiden

We added two more nicknames to the long list of Molly's aliases.

Now, Snork Maiden is of course a character from Tove Jansson's Moomin tales.
But, when Molly is in her deepest sleep, she snores. It's so cute. And therefore we now call her Snork Maiden.

Or, 'A very hungry caterpillar' (the title of Eric Carle's book in Dutch is translated as 'Little caterpillar Never-Enough'),
because there's not enough love in this world
that would satisfy her need for affection.

Wij voegden twee nieuwe namen aan Molly's lange bijnamenlijst toe.

Snork Maiden is natuurlijk één van de karakters uit Tove Jansson's Moomin boekjes.
Maar, als Molly heel diep slaapt, dan snurkt ze een beetje. Zo lief. En daarom gaf ik haar de naam Snork Maiden. Snurk Meisje.

'Rupsje Nooitgenoeg' naar Eric Carle's boek, is de tweede. Er is namelijk werkelijk nergens in de wereld
genoeg liefde te vinden om Molly's behoefte aan affectie te bevredigen. Lief dier.

Just a perfect day

Just a perfect day, yesterday. Caroline, Diana, Erika, Michelle and me met up in this beautiful place. The sun was shining, there was great food, it was so nice to meet up again with these like-minded ladies. To me, the world seemed perfect there at that moment in that beautiful garden.

Een buitenkans, gisteren. Ik ontmoette Caroline, Diana, Erika en Michelle voor de lunch op een prachtige locatie. De zon scheen, er was lekker eten en het was fijn om weer in hun gezelschap te zijn. Voor mij was de wereld, voor dat moment, op die plek, even helemaal perfect.

A very nerve-wracking but little project

It took me one whole weekend (one-whole-weekend) to design new businesscards ánd to be happy with the result. The printed cards didn't exactly turn out the way I expected - the colours aren't as bright as they appeared on my computerscreen, which is probably a major rookie failure - but it's way better than my former cards (I used the following disclaimers when handing those out: "The logo is very old...I still have to design new ones...Please don't pay attention to the amateuristic design..." etc. etc.) Next time when we meet, please be gentle with your feedback: after this project my nerves are in desperate need of a serious time-out.

And before I forget: Happy Mothers Day y'all!

Het heeft me een heel weekend (een-heel-weekend) gekost om nieuwe visitekaartjes te ontwerpen en ook nog tevreden te zijn met het resultaat. Uiteindelijk hebben de geprinte kaartjes niet meer de heldere kleuren die ze op mijn beeldscherm wél hadden (wat waarschijnlijk een enórreme beginnersfout is), maar ze zijn in ieder geval mooier dan mijn oude kaartjes (die deelde ik op een gegeven moment uit met één van de volgende disclaimers: "Ja, niet op het logo letten, dat is inmiddels verouderd...Ik moet écht nieuwe kaartjes ontwerpen...Let alsjeblieft niet op het amateuristische ontwerp van deze kaartjes..." etc. etc.). Dus: als we elkaar ontmoeten en ik geef je mijn kaartje, wees alsjeblieft omzichtig met je feedback. Mijn zenuwen kunnen na dit project voorlopig geen al te heftige zaken meer aan, ben ik bang.

En, voordat ik het vergeet: een fijne Moederdag gewenst!

Nice new books

During my trip through New England I collected a couple of lovely books (nothing nicer than visiting a foreign bookstore). I found this great book about drawing (cute) animals, a book about Frida Kahlo's wardrobe (pictures of her newly restored clothing paired with historic photos of her wearing them) and a book of Jonathan Adler on colours (his designs are very expensive, even in the U.S., so I settled for a book ;-)). Even Domino Magazine is back with a quarterly issue! (I found the Lego-like erasers at Dutch discount store Action by the way. It's the silliest name possible for a shop, but I don't complain since they're very cheap.)

Tijdens mijn reis door New England heb ik een paar geweldig mooie boeken gevonden (want, er is niets leukers dan het bezoeken van een buitenlandse boekwinkel). Ik nam een ontzettend lief boekje over het tekenen van (schattige) dieren mee en een boek over de garderobe van Frida Kahlo (klinkt saai, maar is erg mooi: ik lees dan ook graag over restauratie technieken en dat soort saaie aangelegenheden. Kijk zelf maar hier). Tot slot vond ik de spullen van Jonathan Adler ook in de Verenigde Staten te duur (zijn winkels zijn overigens alleen al een aanrader om in rond te kijken), dus kocht ik een acceptabel alternatief van zijn hand: een boek. Ik vond de Legoblokjesgummetjes (tjonge, is dat Nederlands?) bij Action. De naam van die winkel blijf ik werkelijk te sneu vinden..maar ik klaag niet aangezien ze zo lekker goedkoop zijn. Ha!

Charley Harper

I found this übercute Puffer Fish dish at Fishs Eddy, a very cool shop in New York. They sell this range of dinnerware with designs by Charley Harper, too bad I couldn't take them all home!

Ik vond dit überlieve schaaltje met Kogelvis bij Fishs Eddy, een hele gave winkel in New York. Ze verkochten er nog veel meer servies met prachtige ontwerpen van Charley Harper erop, zo jammer dat ik het niet allemaal mee naar huis kon nemen!

The Queensday loot

Last Sunday afternoon I visited the biggest annual Dutch thriftevent called Vrijmarkt during Queensday (do you still follow?) in Utrecht. Now you see, even though we Dutch are cramped with 16 million souls in the tiniest corner of this planet, I'm still not used to crowds. And crowdy...it was that Sunday. In fact, it was the mother of crowded, this Vrijmarkt and after an hour or so, I got really fed up with people shoving and pushing each other (if you ever decide to visit the Vrijmarkt yourself prepare for the ugliest of Dutch behaviour). There's one good thing about thrifting during this event though: the stallholders are often ~~a bit~~ tipsy after drinking Way-To-Many-Beers (it's kinda allowed to be drunk in public during Queensday) which is perfect if you want to bargain (it worked, for example, very well in the case of the worn bird statue. At first the lady that sold it didn't want to give a discount because the bird "had the major advantage of not singing like real birds". I really had this conversation. I did get my discount though, she was really drunk). The butterfly lady (by that I mean the woman who was just unpacking the butterfly displays just when I looked her way) wasn't drunk but could hardly understand why I was interested in displayed butterflies and so I bought the lot for just $13 (my Love is convinced he could have bargained a lot more, if I hadn't ~~screamed~~ said "done!" right after the lady mentioned her price).

So all's well that ends well...but if it wasn't for the birdstatue and butterflies, I'd never visit again. Ever.

Tijdens mijn bezoek aan de Vrijmarkt in Utrecht afgelopen weekend kwam ik tot de conclusie dat, ondanks dat wij met 16 miljoen zielen op het kleinste stukje aarde geperst zijn, ik toch niet kan wennen aan mensenmassa's. En was het de moeder van alle drukte of wat, afgelopen zondag? Na een uur te midden van oud Nederlandsch duw-en trekwerk was ik er wel weer aan toe om naar huis af te nokken, eigenlijk. De traagheid echter waarin wij ons door de stad verplaatsten gaf mij wél de tijd om over één groot voordeel van de Vrijmarkt te mijmeren. Want, ik deed nu geen zaken met pientere pensionado's in een kerkkringloop, maar met hevig aangeschoten types die van hun zooi af moesten. Zo was de dame die mij het vogelbeeldje (uiteindelijk) verkocht zó aangeschoten dat afdingen erg makkelijk bleek. In eerste instantie vond ze het argument "ja maar, hij fluit niet en dat is zo lekker rustig" (eerlijk waar, dit gesprek heeft plaatsgevonden) reden om niets van de prijs af te doen...gelukkig begon toen net dat laatste biertje door te komen..en kon ik toeslaan. Zo zeg.

De dame van de vlinderkastjes was niet dronken, wel verbaasd over het feit dat ik geïnteresseerd was in haar waar. Ik kocht ze uiteindelijk allemaal ineens, voor het fijne bedrag van € 10 (waarop mijn lief mij fijntjes inwreef dat als ik niet meteen "is goed!!" ~~geschreeuwd~~ gezegd had, hij makkelijk meer van die prijs af had kunnen krijgen).

Eind goed al goed, dus eigenlijk toch. Maar de volgende keer ga ik denk ik maar weer voor die kleine kringloop die geld inzamelt voor een nieuw kerkdak ofzo.

Big girl you are beautiful

I'm one of those persons who doesn't read the descriptions at Etsy products very well (shame-on-me). So you can imagine the surprise when I unpacked this kokeshi and discovered it's 8,5" tall! I took the Marimekko paper from the Crate and Barrel shop in New York. Apparantly there's a collaboration between both brands that goes back almost half a century! It was also the perfect prop for this image.

Today I've came to realise how much I missed taking pictures of my still lifes. Putting beautiful items together, the excitement of putting the memory card in the computer and seeing the results popping up on the computerscreen, playing with Photoshop...I love my quiet workdays. I'm working hard to get back on track again and I hope that I'm soon able to show you peeks of my hard work. Stay put!

Ik ben zo'n type dat de beschrijvingen bij Etsyproducten slechts vluchtig doorleest, dus je begrijpt de verrassing toen ik deze kokeshi uitpakte en ze bijna 22 cm bleek te meten! De Marimekko krant nam ik mee van Crate&Barrel New York. Blijkbaar werken beide merken nauw samen bij het samenstellen van de C&B collecties (weer wat geleerd) en het blijkt ook erg goed te werken als achtergrond bij een foto.

Vandaag realiseerde ik me weer eens hoe enorm ik het fotograferen van mijn stillevens miste. Het bij elkaar zetten van mooie dingen, iedere keer de verrassing van het resultaat op mijn beeldscherm, met Photoshop rommelen...mijn stille werkdagen zijn stuk voor stuk heerlijk. Ik ben hard bezig om weer op de rit te komen (jetlags hebben niet de gewenste uitwerking op nachtuilen als ik, ik ga nu nóg later naar bed) en ik hoop de komende weken dan toch echt die zelfmaakpakketjes te kunnen laten zien..en meer. Nog even geduld dus (ik heb namelijk de illusie dat er hele volksstammen al maanden gespannen achter hun PC zitten te wachten...NOT hahaha)!

What memories are made of

I'm back from my great trip to the U.S. I went to New England, the area where the English colonists started their separation from the reign of the United Kingdom and eventually declared themselves independent (roughly, I will not annoy you with some longwinded history lesson). A very interesting and above all, beautiful part of the U.S. We cycled through Martha's Vineyard, visited Cape Cod, went thrifting on the Brooklyn Flea and along with that I carried my three loyal and much needed travel compagnions: a brand new Holga camera I bought at Urban Outfitters, my trustworthy iPhone (as long as the homebutton works) and my much needed sunglasses. It's so great to be back though, to sleep in my own bed, to have Molly on my lap and to be home again. Tonight I'm going to visit Koninginnenach, the largest annual (and nocturnal) Dutch fleamarket..there's nothing greater than to thrift on your own territory!

Ik ben terug van mijn trip naar Amerika. Ik bezocht New England, het stuk Amerika waar de Engelse kolonisten zich afscheidden van Engeland en waar uiteindelijk de Verenigde Staten van Amerika uitgeroepen werden (ruwweg, ik zal je verder niet vermoeien met een ellenlange geschiedenisles). Een interessant maar bovenal ook een prachtig gebied. We hebben gefietst op Martha's Vineyard, reden door Cape Cod, bezochten de vlooienmarkt in Brooklyn...en tijdens dit alles sjouwde ik mijn belangrijkste reisattributen mee: mijn nieuwe Holga (gekocht bij Urban Outfitters, daarover later meer), mijn iPhone (trouw zolang mijn homeknop het doet en ik realiseer me nu dat hij zelfs nog voor 'geld' komt) en mijn zonnebril (ik ontwikkel op vakantie een soort lichtallergie...zodat ik constant met een zonnebril op mijn bakkes loop, weer of geen weer). Het is ook weer heerlijk om thuis te zijn, om in mijn eigen bed te slapen, om met Molly te kroelen en bovenal om weer in mijn eigen territorium te zijn. Vanavond (heerlijk, de jetlag houdt mij 's nachts toch wakker) naar Koninginnenach, lekker oude rotzooi scannen. Ik kan me geen fijnere bezigheid bedenken na drie weken afwezigheid!

I'm taking a blogbreak for a week or two! I'm travelling through the north of United States with my cousin (my poor Love is staying home to work work work and to give Molly her much needed TLC of course..that's secretly the main reason why he had to stay home, haha). These pictures where taken last year, when we travelled to Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California. Oh my gosh, that country is so beautiful (hence the smirk on my face)! Will be back soon, cheerio everybody!

Ik neem een kleine pauze van Alles voor de komende twee weken! Ik reis momenteel door het noorden van Amerika samen met mijn lieve nicht (Lief moest thuisblijven om te werken werken werken en om Molly natuurlijk haar dagelijkse portie liefde en knuffelen te geven..dat is eigenlijk de hoofdreden, haha). Deze foto's maakten wij vorig jaar toen we door Utah, Nevada, Arizona en Californië reisden. Och wat is dat land toch mooi (vandaar die grijns op mijn gezicht)! Tot snel!

Royal Copley

Etsy is still such a great place to rummage through if you're on the lookout for (Europeanly speaking) exotic second hand things. Like this vase of Royal Copley: being a brand manufactured in Ohio, U.S, one can probably buy this vase on every thriftcorner there, here in Europe that would be a whole different story. I have been on the hunt for this deer and fawn planter for a while (being on the hunt for a deer like this isn't that terrible, is it?) and since I did know what the vase looked like, but didn't know who manufactured it, it was quite a challenge to get my hands on it (but that's part of the fun, isn't it?). Eventually, the vase was featured in an Etsy Finds newsletter and I bought it in this lovely Etsy shop called Olea Vintage. There's a lot of beautiful vintage Royal Copley available on Etsy (if you like kitschy, tinsy hysterical statue thingies like me), from bird statues to, for example, this horse and foal planter. Furthermore, Etsy sellers are so kind and offer such great customer service, it's overall a great pleasure doing business with them. So, I'm curious: do you shop vintage on Etsy?

Etsy is nog steeds een geweldig goede plek om naar in-Europa-niet-makkelijk-te-krijgen tweedehands items te zoeken. Deze vaas van Royal Copley is daar een mooi voorbeeld van: gemaakt in de Verenigde Staten zijn ze daar wellicht in elke kringloop te vinden, dat is hier een ander verhaal. Ik ben best een tijdje op jacht geweest naar deze Hert-met-jong vaas (jagen op een hert als dit is zeker toegestaan lijkt me) en omdat ik wel wist hoe ie eruit zag, maar lange tijd niet wist van welk merk ie was, was dit best een uitdaging (maar, dat is natuurlijk ook het leukste aan zo'n zoektocht). Uiteindelijk stond de vaas in een Etsy finds nieuwsbrief en kon ik 'm zo traceren en bij deze Etsy winkel kopen. Er blijkt een heleboel Royal Copley aangeboden te worden in de vintage sectie van Etsy, van vogelbeeldjes tot deze Paard-met-Veulen vaas (je moet wel, zoals ik, van kitsch en hysterisch houden, dat dan weer wel). Daarnaast zijn de verkopers op Etsy over het algemeen ontzettend aardig en klantvriendelijk en is iedere transactie tot nu toe een prettige ervaring geweest (na mijn recente ervaringen met o.a. PostNL is klantgerichtheid een uitstervend iets aan het worden in Nederland..dat haal ik van lieverlee dan dus ook maar uit het buitenland..) En nu uit nieuwsgierigheid: kopen jullie vintage op Etsy?

This collection of curiosities

A while ago we visited Naturalis in Leiden. (Remember this post about a bizarre museum we visited in Saint-Petersburg? Naturalis is it's Dutch version..but less gruesome and with better preserved animals). It inspired me to give this corner in my studio a Natural Historic theme. What do you think, would I be ready to ask an entrance fee for my little Natural Historic museum? ;-)

Deze hoek in mijn studio heeft het thema 'Biodiversiteit' gekregen. Niet dat ik op een dag wakker werd en dacht "Ah! Biodiversiteit! Dat thema moet het worden!", maar het Nederlands heeft ook zo zijn beperkingen (want Natural History letterlijk vertalen klinkt voor geen meter...maar ik dwaal af).

Herinner je je nog dit bezoek aan een museum in Sint-Petersburg? We hebben een tijdje geleden de Nederlandse versie ervan bezocht, Naturalis in Leiden (Nederlandse versie is mooier en netter en op de een of andere manier verdenk ik die Russen er toch van dat ze die dieren allemaal een beetje té graag over de kling jaagden, maar dat is misschien wel een enorm vooringenomen idee van mij).
Maar vandaar dus deze verzameling zo.
(Wat denk je, zou ik al toegangsgeld kunnen beuren voor mijn museum voor Biodiversiteit?)

Lauwe pattas

Lauwe pattas is slang for cool shoes. I'm becoming a bit of a (preferably) sneaker collector, they come in so many great original shapes and designs! These were sold with a major discount (you know I'm a discount fan), so these goodies and baddies comic All Stars (though one size too large) had to come home with me.

Lauwe pattas is straattaal voor gave schoenen (maar dat klinkt natuurlijk veel minder lekker dan lauwe pattas). Het lijkt erop dat ik sneakers spaar, sneakers omdat ze in zulke geweldige uitvoeringen komen (zo werd ik vorig jaar al eigenaar van deze Star Wars Adidassen). Deze pattas met aan de ene kant de slechteriken en aan de andere kant de superhelden hadden ook nog 50% korting (nóg beter, ik ben van de korting). Ondanks dat ze een maat te groot zijn (ik ben een stuk minder kritisch als het Minder Kost), voegde ik ze dus aan mijn collectie toe.

Our temporarily pimped garden

Last week a stylist and photographer visited us to take pictures of our home for a magazine that will appear somewhere this Summer. Now, the pictures needed a Summery and outdoorish feel and unfortunately, our garden is still a project that's on our to do list (it's current bleak state really bugs me). So I lured the ladies of the shoot in with the one cool feature the garden currently has: blossom. And since the bloom of blossom isn't a thing that can be directed, the moment this shoot took place stayed quite unclear.. until all of a sudden, quite early, the tree sprung into this pale pink flowered explosion. And look how cool an overall pretty boring garden looks with a cute Fermob bench and some happy coloured accessories! (Too bad I wasn't allowed to keep the bench ;-)) Overall, I think we managed to catch that Summer feel pretty well (and don't you just love that bunch of flowers in the Jonsberg vase)!

Afgelopen week kwamen een stylist en fotograaf langs voor een shoot van ons huis voor een tijdschrift dat ergens deze zomer uit gaat komen. De sfeer van de foto's moest dus zomers worden, met veel buitenfoto's...en helaas helaas, onze tuin was nou net nog zo'n project dat op onze nog-te-doen-lijst staat (haar huidige kale staat is mij dan ook een doorn in het oog). Ik moest de dames dus lokken met de belofte dat onze Prunus echt práchtig bloeit...wanneer precies was dan nog slechts een kleinigheidachtig detail vond ik. Het moment van de afspraak bleef dus lang onzeker, tot, vorige week ineens (erg vroeg), de boom explodeerde in een wolk van bleekroze bloemen. En zie eens hoe die tuin opknapt van een Fermob bankje en wat zomerse spullen. (Jammer dat ik dat bankje niet mocht houden ;-)) Toch nog best gelukt met dat zomergevoel (en o wat vind ik die bloemen in de Jonsberg vaas geweldig mooi)!

Now that we mounted the Zilverblauw posters, the computerroom is finally finished (as far as a room in our home ever is finished, that is). It's kinda needless to say that I love Anki and Casper's new postercollection, I love their sense of aesthetic. Grouped together, these posters are an even bigger pleasure to look at. The computerroom is quickly becoming my favourite space in our home!

Nu we de Zilverblauw posters hebben opgehangen, is de computerkamer eindelijk klaar (voor zover er gesproken kan worden van kamers die 'klaar' zijn in ons huis). Het spreekt voor zich dat ik enorm fan ben van Anki en Casper's postercollectie, hun herkenbare en onmiskenbare stijl komt zo geweldig samen in deze posters! Ik kijk mij dus blij aan deze muur, deze kamer is hard op weg mijn favoriete plek in huis te worden!

Today is our weddingday. Now that you all so kindly shared your favourite party stories with me, let me share one of mine. Four years ago on this day we married, surrounded by our dearest family and friends. The weather wasn't as near as fair as it is today, but nevertheless, it was a perfect day. I married in a green dress (I still love that dress), with my one and only Love. And though this is one of the biggest clichés ever: life with him has been a celebration ever since I met him.

Vandaag is onze trouwdag. Ik las met veel plezier jullie favoriete feestverhalen, wat leuk dat jullie ze deelden en wat een mooie verhalen. Fijn om die fijne herinneringen terug te halen, vind je niet? Vier jaar geleden trouwden wij vandaag, omringt door onze liefste familie en vrienden. Het weer was in de verste verte niet zo mooi als vandaag (het heeft die week zelfs nog gesneeuwd), maar dat was natuurlijk helemaal niet belangrijk. De dag was perfect. Ik trouwde in een groene jurk (ik ben nog steeds verliefd op die jurk), met mijn jeugdliefde. Het is echt heel cliché (maar clichés zijn cliché omdat ze vaak zo goed de lading dekken, niet?), het leven was altijd al een feestje zolang wij samen zijn.

Vandaag kies ik de winnaar van de Hermelien de Neushoorn, met een beetje hulp van Random.org (je zal me moeten geloven op mijn mooie blauwe ogen, want Blogger weigert de screendump ervan op een fatsoenlijke manier in dit bericht te plakken). Het winnende nummer is 24, wat in de lijst met comments neerkomt op Wij eisen IJs! Stuur je me even een mailtje, dan kan ik dat grijze feestnummer klaarmaken voor haar vertrek. (Ik hoop dat je een stofzuiger hebt, want ze wil nog weleens voor de grap een bak confetti opentrekken.)

I have no idea why you would want to combine a pencil sharpener with a globe, but one way or another, some factory makes them (probably the same factory where the plastic swan planter is made). A while ago I visited a carboot sale where this man sold the most beautiful vintage globes, but asked a ridiculous high price for them (and they didn't even came with a pencil sharpener!). It did make me want to own my own globe though (not that I'm megalomaniac or something) and now I thrifted this globe for only $ 0.25. So if it's going to bore me I can always sharp my pencils with it, or give it to someone who suffers from megalomania (nothing better than to suppress your own plastic earth).

Ik heb geen idee waarom je een puntenslijper met een wereldbol zou willen combineren, maar blijkbaar is er een fabriek die ze maakt (waarschijnlijk dezelfde fabriek als waar de plastic zwanenbloempot gemaakt wordt). Een tijdje geleden was ik op een rommelmarkt waar een man prachtige vintage wereldbollen verkocht, maar hij vroeg er, zeer helaas, een belachelijk hoge prijs voor (en er zat niet eens een puntenslijper in!). Daarop was ik vastbesloten mijn eigen wereldbol te bezitten (zonder megalomaan te willen klinken) en nu vond ik toch dit handzame bolletje mét puntenslijper voor € 0,20! Voor die prijs mag ik 'm snel zat raken en kan ik er alsnog mijn potloden mee gaan slijpen of 'm cadeau doen aan iemand met grootheidswaanzin (wat beter dan heersen over je eigen plastic wereldbol?).

Well...that's a mouthful! This very cool Lego deer is designed by David Cole with existing Lego pieces. Me and my mounted deer obsession had to have it!

Da's een mondvol voor zo'n klein hertje, maar man wat vind ik deze leuk. Hij is ontworpen door David Cole met doodgewone Lego stukjes. Ik en mijn hertenhoofden obsessie moesten 'm hebben!

Last Friday I finally met Anki and Iris in real life, it was so wonderful to meet them in person! What a lovely afternoon!

Molly recovered quickly from her surgery, but for a moment I thought she'd never wake up from her drugged, deep sleep yesterday. After the wonky, let's-try-to-jump-on-furniture-with-a-drunk-head stage, she became her meowing, sweet self again. A great relief.

Today I had a great day with my beloved brother. We drank coffee, visited Ikea and a thriftshop, talked, laughed. Simple things make the most happy moments. The unicorn on the picture flew out to it's new owner, it's the first medium sized horse I made. I'm closing the shop for now though, in a couple of weeks I will be flying to the U.S. for a road trip with my cousin...can hardly wait, love that country. Ta now!

Afgelopen vrijdag ontmoette ik Anki en Iris in het echt, ontzettend gezellig en leuk! Wat een gezellige middag!

Molly is haar tandentrek avontuur inmiddels behoorlijk te boven, alhoewel ik gisteren even dacht dat ze nooit meer uit haar diep-verdoofde-slaap ging komen. Na de Laat-Ik-Met-Mijn-Dronken-Hoofdje-Op-Allerlei-Meubels-Proberen-Te-Klimmen-Fase, werd ze weer zo'n beetje haar miauwende lieve zelf. Opluchting.

Vandaag ging ik met mijn lieve broer een dagje op stap. We dronken koffie, gingen naar een kringloop, Ikea, praatten, lachten..geluk zit in hele gewone dingen. De eenhoorn op de foto is onderweg naar haar nieuwe eigenaar. De winkel gaat tot mei dicht, ik moet nog veel dingen afmaken en over een paar weken ga ik samen met mijn nicht op reis naar Amerika! Kan niet wachten, ik ben verliefd op het land. Tot donderdag!
