Project FeederWatch begins November 1!

Each winter, thousands of people come together to monitor birds in neighborhoods across the U.S. and Canada. Will you join us this year?

Sign up for Project FeederWatch, a fun and easy way to make your bird observations count this winter. By sharing your observations, you help us understand how birds are doing and identify effective conservation actions. This year, FeederWatchers will also have a chance to participate in an international study on bird-glass collisions – one of the major threats facing birds today.

What will I receive as a participant?

Your participation supports vital bird research and conservation and connects you to a passionate community of bird lovers. In addition, you will receive:

a backyard bird identification poster
a calendar to help you remember your counting days
access to an app to keep track of birds at your count site
invitations to special events, including webinars and bird trivia nights

Why is there a fee?

The $18 fee supports our non-profit monitoring program, providing the critical revenue we need to operate Project FeederWatch and fund our research.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have caused devastating destruction, leaving thousands of families in crisis, wildlife killed, injured, and displaced, and communities in urgent need of support. While the Endangered Species Coalition (ESC) does not work on the ground in Los Angeles County, we recognize that this emergency requires a collective response.

You can help firefighters, wildlife, and other animals by participating in Explore.org's 5:1 match for the Pasadena Humane Society or the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, who are rescuing animals displaced by the fires. Visit Explore.org's website or Facebook page for more information.

ESC member organization, Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has more information here about animal-related response to the wildfires including additional ways to help.

You can also help those who are in need of immediate support through this tandem fundraising page supporting 5 organizations who are serving communities in need right now.

Pasadena Humane Society

California : Fires cause much hardship for pets and widilfe as well as humans. Monetary help is the #1 need at Pasadena Humane Society now so that they can acquire supplies as needed.

I read that one shouldn't assume people left their animals behind on purpose. Tthe fires started at ~10:30 AM and evacuation orders were issued two hours later, and many people would have been at work.
