Updates to TPC and SolVin S.A.

Not much to report, but I just finished updating a few data sheets for TPC, The Polyolefin Company (Singapore) Pte Ltd and SolVin S.A.

Updates for DuPont Performance Polymers and REPSOL YPF

DuPont Performance Polymers sent in another data file last week. I was able to finish importing it today. Not much to report, just a couple of new grades and some data updates.

Today I also finished an extensive update for REPSOL YPF. This included a data update as well as a product line card update.

Overall nearly 600 materials were updated between these two updates. Watch for these updates to hit Prospector this week!

Total Petrochemicals Updates Include Asia/Pacific Availability

I added 21 new grades to Prospector from Total Petrochemicals. A Ordinarily this type of update wouldn't be newsworthy enough to justify a complete blog post, but as part of this update I added Asia/Pacific availability to 75 Polypropylene and Polyethylene grades based on information that changed on Total's site since I last looked in July 2011. Up until this point, Total Petrochemicals only reported Asia/Pacific availability for their Polystyrene grades.

EMS-Grivory Updated

I just put the finishing touches on a data update of EMS-Grivory. This update includes all 341 grades currently available on the EMS-Grivory web site. The updated data will appear in Prospector on Thursday evening.

Updates for DSM and RheTech

I updated the data sheets for RheTech, Inc. I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that there wasn't much that changed, so updating their data was very easy. The bad news is that they dropped all their mold shrinkage data. Here's a possible scenario: somewhere someone cut a mold based entirely on a mold shrinkage value from a technical datasheet and blamed it on RheTech. In response (or in advance of such a scenario as the case may be) RheTech idiot-proofed their data sheets by removing the oft-misused data. If you are designing a mold and are facing a deadline, do yourself a favor and do the design right the first time!

I spent the last 3 or 4 days verifying ALL of the data for DSM Engineering Plastics. That's right, I looked at all the data points for nearly 350 data sheets! Nothing much to report, other than their data is even fresher than before.

Massive Sylvin Technologies Incorporated Additions

DuPont has been busy

I just put the finishing touches on yet another data import from DuPont Performance Polymers. This update is the most drastic I've seen in the many years I've been handling their data imports. While there haven't been any big changes to their product offerings (a couple of new grades and a handful of discontinued grades), there has been a significant reduction in the amount of data that is available. Lots of ASTM mechanical and electrical data has been dropped as well as a lot of UL flammability data. Suspecting that there was an issue with the data file, I contacted DuPont and confirmed that the data reduction was expected.

Various Updates Interrupted by Vacation

I haven't posted any progress for a while, and that's because I took a week off for a much needed vacation. To keep me busy while my sunburn heals, I'll list a few updates I've completed.

Prior to my vacation, I performed various updates to UNIPETROL RPA, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, and IRPC Public Company Limited.

Today I put the finishing touches on NOVA Chemicals. This was primarily a housekeeping update. NOVA's product offerings within Prospector have been updated. A few grades disappeared, a few grades were added, and a handful of data sheets were updated. The update was done at the request of one of our many wonderful users.

Complete update for Kraiburg TPE Corporation

It took a while, but I updated lots of Marplex Australia Pty. Ltd. This update included 12 new materials.

What made the update so difficult? Well, whenever their product list changes, their hyperlinks change, so any semblance of organization quickly turns into something like this:

DuPont, E-Polymers, Petropol, and Sumitomo Bakelite

Once again DuPont Performance Polymers has been updated. Luckily I've been handling them for years, so the updates don't take a lot of effort.

I've also added 59 new materials for E-Polymers Co., Ltd., 35 new materials for Petropol Industry and Trade Polymers LTDA, and 33 new materials for Sumitomo Bakelite North America.

I recently added over 80 new Petropol Industry and Trade of Polymers LTDA technical datasheets.

Sometimes data imports are the digital equivalent of fitting a square peg in a round hole. For the past week I've been working on a data file from Plastcom. This morning I finished the import process. This update includes nearly 40 new grades.

The folks at DuPont must be busy, because they sent me another data file, just a couple of weeks after the last one! The update included multi-point curve data as well.

Other notable updates include a complete overhaul of AdvanSource Biomaterials Corp. They produce specialty medical grade polyurethanes.

I updated 39 Bhansali Engineering Polymers Limited data sheets and added 39 new grades.

I also updated 34 data sheets and added 120 new data sheets for flexible PVC manufacturer Manner Plastics, L.P.

Kicking off the year with updates to DuPont and DSM

I'm getting ramped up for another fantastic year at IDES. Last year IDES updated over 21,000 individual materials (14,000+ by yours truly). This number doesn't include the many thousands of other materials that we kept an eye on, but didn't need any updates.

Coming back from the IDES holiday break, I've been hard at work trying to keep up with all the changes coming through the system. The most notable updates to take place so far this year include a complete data update to DuPont Performance Polymers (they provide their own data), and numerous data changes for DSM Engineering Plastics.

Nangtong Polymax Data Updated

Data for DuPont Performance Polymers has been updated. Periodically DuPont sends me a data file, and I get it into Prospector.

Not only does Prospector get updated, but so does DuPont's site and all of the distributors whose sites are supported by IDES!

Eastman Chemical Company Data Updated

Some minor changes were made to several Eastman Chemical Company materials. A number of these changes were that several materials are tagged with "Cradle to Cradle Certified^CM Silver".

This is an eco-friendliness certification related to a material's safety with regard to humans and the environment. Head on over to MBDC's website for an overview of the certification.

Samsung Data Updated

Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG Data Added to Prospector

Data for Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG has been added to Prospector. The Vinnolit® line of materials were added at the request of a client to further expand our coverage of PVC materials. Without input from our clients expanding our database of over 84,000 materials from more than 850 suppliers in Prospector would be a far more daunting task. Thanks PVC client guy!

Improved PVC Data Representation

A few months ago a client called in and was having difficulty finding some PVC materials in Prospector. Any time someone is having a hard time finding something means I have some work to do.
The result of the discussion with this client has been the creation of two new data fields: K-value and Viscosity Number (also known as Reduced Viscosity). Both of these properties are from the ISO 1628 test standard.
