We are still have dreams of replacing our beat up IKEA sofa but who knows when that will happen, in the mean time I will still drool and dream about the most killer sofa. The Friday line by Zeitraum has a pretty incredible sofa. Wood curves, slung leather and contrast stitching, whats not to love about this? I would like to see it in a longer version.

Laslett House - Designed by the architect Trevor Dannatt

While looking through The Modern House Estate Agents website there were two houses that stood out to me, I already posted about Tavistock Terrace. The other is the Laslett House, Designed by the architect Trevor Dannatt for the Cambridge professor Peter Laslett in 1958. There is something so authentic about this home, it has been so well taken care of. I would say that most of the furnishing are of the time period as well. The home was for sale with plans for an annexe also designed by Dannatt that is sympathetic to the original building, but the home is currently “under offer”.

Acciaio Series - steel chairs, inspired by the bicycle

The Acciaio Series by Max Lipsey is modern seating made from steel, inspired by the bicycle. I am quite smitten with these chairs, mostly the lounge chair, what a killer design. I am really not into cycling but I do appreciate the technology that the cycling world presents. The concept and execution of the Acciaio Series are visually quite nice. I love the perforated leather against the “stilt” like frame work of the chair. I need a pair of these in green.

Modern interiors captured by Tim Van de Velde

Tim Van de Velde has seen and captured some stunning modern interiors. Every time I see a photographers portfolio full of amazing images like these I get a little envious, envious because I would love to see these places and experience the atmosphere that they create. Oh, some day wouldn’t it be great if I could take a semi decent photo……some day.

Concrete sinks by Gore Design Co.

I am totally amazed at what Gore Design Co. is doing with concrete. For me their modern concrete sinks are their strongest design elements. Their different designs and concepts are pretty limitless, but their execution is flawless. I am totally digging on the geometric designs that they have. Tavistock Terrace - Modern in London

Listed on The Modern House Estate Agents website, Tavistock Terrace is a great industrial building turned modern living space. From the inside you still get some of those reminders of what the building once was. Exposed brick and a steel beam running through the home adds some great visual texture. I love what was done on the inside with the design choices, clean minimal and modern.

Two modern tables by Studio Intussen

A while back I posted about a really cool table called Pixel Table. While looking through my bookmarks I found Studio Intussen again and looked through their “projects”. They have made two tables both used different material but they had some similarities in function. I love the idea of having “visual storage” seeing what has been put away. I am digging on both the use of plywood and bamboo.

Sugar Bowl House by John Maniscalco Architecture

I am not a fan of cabins or romping around in the woods but the Sugar Bowl House by John Maniscalco Architecture would for sure change my mind. There is something about the overall shape of this house that has me intrigued. Maybe it is the mix of wood and metal siding on the exterior? Maybe is is the “clear story” in the center of the house that would flood the place with natural light. Or could it be that killer stair case? What ever it is, the house is stunning.

Award objects by Fraser Reid

When I first saw these award objects by Fraser Reid, my first thought was, “that’s a great looking modern planter”. It turns out hey aren’t planters at all, they are actually awards, a trophy if you will. I think they need to be planters but the concept is really cool.

Since ancient times awards have been given out to recognize success and achievement, the modern ‘trophy’ is based on the vessels given out during the Olympic Games in ancient Greece which were designed to contain sacred oils. Over time the focus of the trophy’s form has shifted from a container to what is now merely a symbol of its past function The awards were created by casting synthetic plaster into sports trophy forms.

Lake | Flato Architects

The style of architecture found at Lake | Flato Architects is very appealing in many ways, shall we count them? OK maybe we won’t count them but here are some design elements that I think are killer. High ceilings, exposed beams, extended roof lines, loads of natural wood details and blurring the lines between inside and outside. What elements do you notice in these amazing modern homes?
