I have seen people often asking the question “do I need a box spring?” or “How many slats does a bed need?” Well, if you bought a bed with slats, then you have the option of adding a box spring or not using a box spring because bed slats is actually a built-in frame that supports mattress on a bed. Bed slats usually provide a more rigid support than a box spring does. On the other hand, most people choose to add a box spring on top of the slat because they don’t feel comfortable sleeping to close to the ground.

For the question “how many slats does a bed need?”, this would only be a concern if you wants to build the bed yourself. Generally speaking, the more slats you have, the more reliable the support. First, you need to decide the width of your bed and divide the width by n. For example, if the width of the bed is about 120cm. Then you can divide 120cm by 6, you get 20cm. This will be the space between your slats and number of slats you needed will be 6-1=5. So if you want more slats, you can divide the width by 8 or 10, then you will need 7 and 9 slats respectively. As a result, the space between each slat will be much less and you get a much better support to mattresses.
