Sandra Schmirler Golf Tournament Okanagan raises $20,600

Sandra Schmirler Golf Tournament Okanagan and the Sandra Schmirler Foundation donate $20,600 towards the purchase of a specialized incubator for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kelowna General Hospital.

The Sandra Schmirler Golf Tournament Okanagan was held August 19 to 21, 2011. The two-round golf tournament weekend took place at Shadow Ridge Golf Club, in Kelowna, BC.

The event organizing committee from the Kelowna Curling Club teamed up with the Sandra Schmirler Foundation along with presenting sponsor, Canadian Direct Insurance to raise funds for the NICU at Kelowna General Hospital.

“It was a fantastic weekend of golf and everyone had a great time while supporting the Kelowna General Hospital’s NICU,” says Norm Allen, coordinator for the tournament. “We are looking forward to the next tournament in the summer of 2012.”

Jacobs Crazy Eight-Ender

Brad Jacobs rink from Sault Ste. Marie captured their third-straight Northern Ontario Men’s Curling championship with a 9-2 victory over Sudbury’s Mike Jakubo. The victory comes with another trip to the Tim Horton’s Brier in Saskatoon and the goal to bring a Canadian Championship back to Northern Ontario for the first time since Al Hackner did it in 1985.

In The Dominion Men’s Northern Ontario Curling Association Championship semi-final on Saturday afternoon, Jacobs team of EJ Harnden, Ryan Harnden and Scott Seabrook scored an extremely rare eight-ender in the sixth end in their 14-3 victory over Sudbury’s Tim Phillips. Eight-enders are infrequent in club curling and completely unimaginable at the highest level of curling.

2012 BC Men’s Championship

The 2012 Canadian Direct Insurance British Columbia Men’s Curling Championship takes place Wednesday, February 8 to Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Parksville Curling Club in Parksville, BC. Sixteen qualifiers from around the province British Columbia will compete in the provincial championship to represent British Columbia at the Tim Horton’s Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from March 3 to 11, 2012.

For the first time this year, The Canadian Direct Insurance British Columbia Men’s Curling Championship is a triple-knockout event with three draws daily from, Wedneday, February 8 to Friday, February 10th. Four teams will qualify for the playoffs: one from the “A” Event, one from the “B” Event and two from the “C” Event. The Page Playoff begins Saturday, February 11th at 11:00am with the “A” and “B” Event winners playing for a spot in the final, while the two “C” Event winners playoff to advance the to semi-final at 7:30pm on Saturday night. The loser of the “A” and “B” event game will play against the winner of the two “C” event winners in the semi-final with the winner advancing to the final. The championship will take place Sunday, February 11th at 5:00pm.

Games start Wednesday, February 8 at 9:00am with triple knockout games at 2:00pm and 7:00pm from Wednesday to Friday.

2012 Northern Ontario Men’s in the Soo

The Dominion Men’s 2012 Northern Ontario Provincial Championship takes place Sunnday, February 5 to Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Soo Curling Association in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Twelve of the best Men’s teams from across Northern Ontario will compete in the provincial championship to represent Northern Ontario at the Tim Horton’s Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from March 3 to 11, 2012.

The Dominion Men’s Northern Ontario provincial championship is a round-robin event with two draws daily from Sunday, February 5 to Thursday, February 9th. The final draw of the round-robin takes place on Friday, February 10th. If tie-breakers are necessary, they will be played on Friday afternoon and evening. The championship will end with a four team Page Playoff beginning Saturday, February 11th.

Games start Sunday, February 5 at 2:30pm with round-robin games at 2:00pm and 7:30pm from Monday to Thursday. The final round-robin game is at 9:30am on Friday, February 10. The Page Playoffs begin on Saturday, February 11 at 2:00pm. The final is scheduled for 9:00am on Sunday, February 12.

New Brunswick Men’s Final 8

Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, New Brunswick plays host the Molson Canadian Men’s Final 8 from February 1 to 5. The top eight teams in New Brunswick will be playing to represent the province at the Tim Horton’s Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan March 3 to 11, 2012.

Games are underway beginning Wednesday, February 1 at 2:00pm with round-robin draws going Wednesday to Friday at 2:00pm and 7:00pm each day. The final round-robin draw takes place Saturday at 9:00am. The semi-final is at 8:00pm on Saturday with the final at 2:00pm on Sunday.

Ten of the best Women’s teams from across British Columbia will compete in the provincial championship to represent British Columbia at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer, Alberta from February 18, to 26, 2012.

The Scotties British Columbia Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western is a round-robin event with two draws daily, and will end with a Page Playoff beginning Friday, January 27 with the semi-final and final televised on Shaw. Ten teams from around British Columbia have qualified to earn their berth at the BC Scotties.

Games start Monday, January 23 at 10:30am with round-robin games at 10:30am and 6:30pm from Monday to Thursday. The final round-robin game takes place at 9:30am on Friday. The Page Playoffs begin on Friday, January 27 at 7:00pm if there no tie-breakers or only one tie-breaker necessary. The final is scheduled for 4:30pm on Sunday, January 29.

The 2011-12 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts takes place Monday, January 23 to Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Kenora Curling Club in Kenora, Ontario. Ten of the best Women’s teams from across Ontario will compete in the provincial championship to represent Ontario at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer, Alberta from February 18, to 26, 2012.

The Ontario Scotties is a round-robin event with two draws daily, and will end with a Page Playoff beginning Saturday, January 28 which will be televised on Shaw. Six teams from the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) and four teams from the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) have qualified to earn their berth at the Ontario Scotties.

New Brunswick Men’s Preliminary

Curling Beauséjour in Moncton plays host the Molson Canadian Men’s Preliminary Playdown from January 12 to 15. 17 of the top New Brunswick teams will be playing for 3 berths in the Molson Canadian New Brunswick Men’s Final 8 Curling Championship in St. John at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in February.

Games are underway all weekend with the final two qualifiers being determined on Sunday

The final spots in the New Brunswick Men’s Curling Championship will be determined at the Wildcard in Campbelton next weekend.

2012 NOCA Junior Provincials

The 2011-12 Northern Ontario Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championships take place Thursday, January 5 to Sunday, January 8. The Atikokan Curling Club will be hosting the Junior Men while the Sioux Lookout Golf and Curling Club will host the Junior Women. Eight Men’s and Women’s teams are playing in this weekend’s competition after qualifying through playdowns in their respective areas. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams are competing for one spot each in the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors in Napanee, ON February 4 to 12, 2012.

Games start Thursday, January 5 at 2:00pm with both the Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s final scheduled for 9:00am on Sunday, January 8. If tiebreakers are necessary, the final will take place at 1:00pm.
