I am in awe over the needlepoint lace creations by Toronto-based artist Dorie Millerson. Her work addresses and questions topics like family, fragility and home. Millerson is also "concerned with the themes of attachment and memory" and "adapts textile techniques in order to explore these concepts." As a result, both the process and the form of the pieces become equally important in presenting her ideas. These thought provoking works are stunning and inspiring.

I've been dreaming of cool autumn nights and forest inspired living ever since I saw Julie Brabec's fabulous A-Frame house featured in ReadyMade. Cozy textiles and mid-century modern furniture fill this beautiful New Hampshire dwelling. Bring on the fire pit, roasted marshmallows and apple cider!

On a side note - I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a Happy Halloween! I took a little time off and had fun at a local amusement park filled with crazy rides and haunted mazes. Ahh...isn't this time of year so fun?

Max Attenborough

I can't get enough of these inspiring interiors by photographer Max Attenborough. An interesting mix of objects, colors and patterns make up these wonderful spaces. Plus, ideas to use for your next remodel project. Pink phone? Yes! Patchwork wallpaper? Sure, why not! British Union flags? Of course (even if you aren't from the U.K.). Sounds pretty good to me.

You know what else sounds good? We're halfway through the week and Halloween is getting closer. Ghouls and goblins here we come! How are your preparing for the holiday?

Vintage Collections

Vintage collections are a great way to add interest, texture and fun to any room. Design company Lost Found Art specializes in sculptural installations and assemblages using antique and vintage pieces. Above is a glimpse into their unique collections including pinball games, vintage carpenter paint brushes, space ray guns (my fav!), antique hand mirrors and metal children's beach pails. Besides selling these special pieces Lost Found Art also presents interesting display ideas for showcasing an unusual collection of items.

Who would ever think tricycle seats and antique bunsen burners could look so good? Luckily Lost Found Art did!

Trip to Ahhs

The High Point Furniture Market offered stylish furniture, accessories and the exciting “Trip to Ahhs” visual presentation by artist Mike Farrell. Recycled shoes, post-it notes, crayons and even toasted bread slices were used to re-imagine the "Wizard of Oz" on the classic movie’s 70th anniversary. The innovative installation encouraged ideas and inspired retailers to get creative with their store displays. Luckily my co-worker snapped a few photographs, although I apologize for the poor camera phone quality. My favorite is the Seven Wonders of the World on toasted Wonder bread. So clever...I'm still swirling with inspiration!

Quiet

It's nice to end the busy week off with reflective and quiet images. The photographs by the talented Ana Cuba are a perfect way to ease into the weekend. Nothing big going on this weekend, but that's exactly what I need after this crazy week...make that crazy month. Where did October go?! Nonetheless, here's to a good ol' lazy weekend...enjoy.

Bold Design at Market

The atmosphere at this year's High Point Furniture Market was uplifting and positive. The market was filled with buzz and excitement over the interesting use of colors and patterns. Browns and neutrals were happily replaced with bold blues and metallic grays along with playful textures. Designers reacted to the uncertain economy by emphasizing selective, simple, detailed, and quality built pieces. Retailers also turned up their creative juices and re-vamped showrooms to promote their unique style and get consumers interested.

One such designer and showroom that stood out to me was Julian Chichester. Dramatic pieces paired with pops of color created a refreshing look. This market definitely captured my glam side and I look forward to exploring more with you this week!

Nature

After the Rock and Shop Vintage Market on Saturday I strolled into the nearby LabourLove Gallery. I was immediately impressed by the lovely work and Nature series created by Kelly Dew. Her large and pattern filled illustrations are playful and instantly brighten the space. I look forward to a future gallery visit and following the evolution of each artist.

Weekend Review

Saturday was filled with inspiring sights from the Rock and Shop Vintage Market in Durham, NC. The venue was amazing along with the endless array of talented designers and vendors. The show was packed (yay for vintage!) and I managed to snap a few photos from the fashion show. If you look closely at the top model you will notice a vintage owl necklace, which is very similar to the owl necklace I found at a yard sale. Pretty neat, eh? And although not related to the show, I enjoyed the clever re-purpose of red construction pieces turned plant holders found outside the venue.

At the event I also meet two wonderful NC bloggers...Michelle Smith, producer of The Rock & Shop Market and founder of indieNC, as well as Ellie Snow from Mint. Rock & Shop Vintage Market

Featuring over 30 designers selling a well-curated selection of upcycled, eco-friendly & vintage goods, live music by Mount Weather & Lonnie Walker, plus a fashion show and a bar! Above is a glimpse of the wonderful vendors and items being sold. Admission is $3. First 50 attendees receive a free shopping tote. If you're not in the area you can still view the designers and their shops online!

Missing the Beach

Summer has ended, but it's nice to remember warm, beachy days. I finally had a chance to view my Diana Mini beach trip photographs and was delighted by the results. The second photo is my favorite because I clearly remember taking the photograph and praying that it would come out. And yay...it did! I'm also happy with the images of my beach breakfast and the wonderful trees found along Fort Fisher.

I already miss the beach, but Fall is quickly winning me over. Here's to a photo-worthy weekend ahead!

Liberty Finds

Original 1940's shopping cart. It was a great price...I got it...what was I thinking?!?!

Rain and mud didn't stop this year's Liberty Antique Festival. I managed to snap a few photos of items I purchased including two old school clocks and a vintage shopping cart. I was hesitant to buy the small shopping cart because well...it's a shopping cart! Plus, I don't have the space for it...no clue what I'm going to do with it...but the price on this unique piece was too good to pass up. My brain racked with obsession and my gut said GET IT. So, I did. It's in the basement waiting to debut in an awesome shop somewhere. Hello Anthropologie...don't you need a vintage shopping cart for display? It's a stretch, but hopefully I haven't become a crazy, vintage bag-lady for buying an old (but cool) shopping cart!
