Right now the walls are primed, the sanding is done and now comes the fun stuff. What is it going to look like? Don’t you just love this part. Researching, looking around and gathering ideas.

I put together some inspiration boards. (The pictures came from my Pinterest board – bathroom. You can go there to get more information on the pictures.)

Here’s a breakdown of the work to be done.

Paint

The colours have finally been decided. I took a super long time picking colours. I think it was because I needed to get an idea what the rest of the house will look like and make sure what I picked for the main bathroom would actually work with the rest of the house. So of course I had the pick colours for the house. Each room now has a colour scheme that will get painted sometime in the future. So the colours we will be using are; a bright white called Simply White by Benjamin Moore in semigloss, and a dark grey called Chelsea Gray also by Benjamin Moore in a pearl finished. The white will be used on the fake wainscoting with the gray on the upper walls and ceiling. Yes the ceiling is being painted dark gray. I will also prime the fan and air vent and paint those gray also.

Walls

We are putting in fake wainscoting. I love this idea it’s cheap and looks easy to do. It will be up the walls over half but less than three quarters. I’d like a little lip on the top to be able to place pictures.

Lights

The light fixture on the ceiling will be replaced with an antique light I have dragged around for years. It came out of a house being torn down in Bonne Bay. My mother knew I would love it so she asked for it. It will now finally have a permanent home. Also a new gold/brass fixture will be going over the mirror.

Vanity

The base of the vanity will be staying because its solid and provides good storage. But it will be getting a facelift. The cabinets will be painted Chelsea Gray with added glass knobs and brass hinges. We will be making a vanity top with some beautiful thick maple boards we have. We will glue them together, sand and restain in a dark colour. The sink will be replaced with a vessel maybe. I love those. If not a new sink basic is needed. We are also getting a new faucet. I am hoping for a gold colour but I have noticed that they are hard to come by. I was surprised by this. So we might have to put in a cheaper version until I find the one I want. I have a mirror for over the vanity that I will be painting gold or white, not certain yet.

Accents

I would like to use gold. Gold frames, facets, knobs, and hooks. I am thinking white and gray towels with a white shower curtain. Oh and we have a new shower rod the one that curves out to allow for more elbow room and light. I want to add fake gray brick for the bottom of the tub. It looks easy enough. Time will tell.

I think the main things will get done and make the bathroom functionable but I know we won’t get it all done before the wedding. We had to sit down the other day and organize what is a priority and what can wait. So besides a super deep clean of the house and some re-organizing we are going to focus on the garden where the wedding will take place.

Loving this rug.

While twacking around with a friend I saw this rug. It’s old but in excellent shape. I love the bright colours. Upon close inspection the rug is done with various scrapes of material but not wool. The flower design is so simple. I would love to have it but the price tag was $350.00.

Anyway I want to talk about that lovely thing called the bathroom scale. There are all kinds of advice out there about when to weigh and what type of scale to buy. I ignored it all and did my own thing. Too much information is confusing to me I get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing.

I just own an ordinary cheap scale, the kind that when you stand on it the needle moves, very old school I know. You can not see half pounds or three-quarters of a pound. Actually you barely see one pound but can definitely see two. I’m fine with that. As long as I see that needle going in the right direction it’s good. There is no BMI or body fat counter, it’s cheap and plain. I might buy a fancy one but not yet. I think seeing .02 of a pound or telling me my BMI is still in the obese arena would just piss me. And besides I have better use for the sixty plus dollars it will cost. That’s like a lot of bananas. Which I eat everyday.

So I got a cheapo scale and I use it to weigh myself. Pretty simple. I stand on it, it tells me whether I am eating too much because really what else would it say to you. I weigh everyday. Yup, every morning, I just like to see if that needle will move throughout the day or the week. I even put things in my hands because some days or even weeks I think it must be broken. And yet sometimes it can go up four to five pounds from the morning to-night! For some people, weighing everyday might be a little discouraging but for me it’s the opposite. I want that needle to move so I want to see where it is everyday. I want to know what my body is doing. Too much food, too much salt, retaining water, monthly cycle. It all shows up eventually on the scale. I now know that I weigh less in the morning than at night. I know, you all probably know that.

But seriously as long as the thing is working I don’t care. I just like to jump on that thing. It’s there in the bathroom where I go ten times a day so why not jump on it. Maybe I’ll break it and just go by the feel of my pants. That’s a way better feeling anyway.

So there you have it. My view on the scale. What’s your view? What kind do you have and how often do you weigh?

Ok the walls are finally primed in the main bath. We had to plaster and wait and plaster and wait and then sand. I really did do a number on the walls. But all is forgotten and the priming is done. This is taking a bit longer than I thought. That red is stubborn.

The cabinet has been lightly sanded and a primer applied.

The small area above the tub is now smooth and primed.
You might have noticed that the primer looks thinner at the top and you’d be right. The bottom half of the walls are going white and the top a dark colour so I really only needed one coat up there.

Next up the plans.

Now I really should of had a plan but the one thing I do know about me is if I am going to get something done I need to start and by starting I mean making a mess. Once this is done and I know there is no turning back and it must be completed then I kinda make a plan. Right now my plan is to make it over. ha.

More priming after Todd does some repair work on the walls. I was a little hasty on getting those blue tiles off.
