Each month, PLUS Model Magazine features a model hopeful and brand new plus size model. In the February issue, meet Spotlight Model Cassandra Cabral of Toronto, Canada. Tiffany Bank (of “Big Sexy” on TLC fame) interviews an up and coming model.

What made you decide to become a plus size model?
What made me decide to become a plus size model is really my passion within. Ever since I was a little girl I loved trying on clothes, going into my mom’s makeup, dolling myself up and posing in the mirror! My mom also ran a clothing company from home so I was able to do fashion shows for her and model the clothes all the time! However, through my teen years as a plus size girl I often found it hard to appreciate what I have to offer and always felt I was different from other girls. But as I finally grew into the person I am today and realized what a beautiful person I really am at any size, the possibilities for my plus model career became endless. I now feel I can empower other young girls who have yet to realize they are amazing and have a lot to offer the world regardless of which size they are.

Who are your favorite curvy role models?
My favorite curvy role models are definitely Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé Knowles! JLO and Beyoncé are both known for their amazing curvy bodies. They are both known to be very “bootylicious” and both know how to rock their hot bods! They show girls everywhere that confidence is key, and one must love oneself before anyone else can. This month’s cover girl is a beautiful Chicago native who is one of the new faces for Igigi.com. Meet plus size model Nikki Muffoletto.

[Maddy] When did you first become interested in the plus size modeling industry?

[Nikki] During freshman year of college my school had a booth requesting for people who would be willing to cut there hair for an upcoming hair show. Since I was a broke college student at the time I thought, “Oh great, a free hair cut!” When I got there all the girls were models and one of them told me I should try plus size modeling. So I looked up plus size modeling in the yellow pages and went to a few open calls.

[Maddy] Once you went to the open calls? How did you obtain an agency?

I went to 3 open calls. Elite being the first, they liked my look but told me at the time I was too thin and that I would need to gain 20-30 pounds. I went to Aria and I received the same advice. Then I went to Ford, they signed me on the spot, I signed a contract with them and within 1 week I had paid for pictures to obtain a portfolio and got my first modeling job.

[Maddy] How did you research the plus size modeling industry and gain modeling experience?

[Nikki] I feel as though modeling in some weird way was God’s calling for me in my life, every door was being opened. It was somewhat easy to get into the plus size modeling industry. The hard part is taking pictures good enough for the clients to book you for jobs. I have had to spend a good amount of money to test with photographers to get pictures that my agencies like. In my opinion the experience is gained through keeping clients, being friendly and having a good positive attitude.

Sisters Tionna Smalls and Antonia “Toni” Reason launch new online plus size boutique, Majesty’s Closet, on March 31, 2012.

TV personality, Tionna Smalls, is known to be a curvy woman. The world was introduced to her in April of 2010 when she co-starred with Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas in the hit VH1 show, “What Chilli Wants.” After being fed up with not being able to find fabulous clothes to accentuate her womanly frame, she called her sister Antonia “Toni” Reason. Reason, being known for her sense of style and Smalls conversed on the telephone about what the plus size industry was missing and exchanged ideas; it was then that “Majesty’s Closet” was created.

Majesty’s Closet named after Reason’s daughter and Smalls’ niece Majesty, is the answer for plus size women everywhere wondering where can they find trendy clothing in their size. Majesty’s Closet is an online women’s boutique that specializes in fabulous contemporary clothing for sizes 12-28. The sisters replaced the phrase plus size, instead they use ‘majestic’ size.

The company’s colors are purple and gold which stands for the way the company plan on treating their customers, as “Royalty”. The motto of the company is ‘we dress better than our size 4 friends!” The motto was created to dispel the misconceptions that a voluptuous woman couldn’t able to dress better than a woman of traditional size.Majesty’s Closet is by far not the average online boutique; the company will open a showroom later on in the year. The showroom which will open in Richmond, Virginia, is for customers who would like to receive the attention they deserve when they get dressed and step out. The Majestic Diva’swill be able to get one on one fashion consultations and be able to try on merchandise once the showroom is open to the public.The website, www.majestyscloset.com, will be launched on March 31, 2012 which is also the 28th wedding anniversary of the owners parents. The sisters are hoping that the launch date will bring on many blessings.
