During June, Judy Javidpour, Partner at PMN, spoke to a group of students enrolled in an accounting course at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica about the opportunities and career options available to those who choose accounting as their major in college. Judy shared her personal experiences in selecting a major, explained the differences between public and private accounting and described a typical day working at a public accounting firm.

Parent, McLaughlin & Nangle Associates, Peter H. Dinsmore, Partner, and Erica L. Colbath, Audit Manager, were the featured speakers at the December 8 meeting of the Eastern New York Area Council of Boys & Girls Clubs. They spoke on the topic “Opportunities Can Be Created by Working Together.”

Two seminars were recently presented by associates of Parent, McLaughlin & Nangle.

The first seminar, titled “Compliance and Board Responsibility,” was sponsored by Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools on November 5 and was facilitated by Peter Dinsmore, Partner, and Daniel Brennan, Senior Audit Manager.

The second seminar, sponsored jointly by Boston Private Bank & Trust Company and Lawyers Clearinghouse, was held on November 8. Peter Dinsmore led a session on “Navigating the Waters of Financial Reporting for Nonprofits.

Shannon Bollin, Tax Manager, will be participating in the Hearts & Hands Walk for Autism and Family Fun Day on September 24 to raise money for Community Autism Resources Incorporated. Shannon is walking for her son, Drew, who was diagnosed with autism when he was two. All proceeds from the walk will benefit the free services that Community Autism Resources provides to children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families. Brenda J. DeCosta, partner, attended the 16th annual SuperConference of the Not-for-Profit Services Association. During the event she met with peer firms from across the country that also specialize in not-for-profit audits and consulting services, discussing relevant industry topics and developments.

A seminar for nonprofits was held on Wednesday, July 28, on the “New Reporting Requirements for 403(b) Plans.” Sponsored by Boston Private Bank & Trust Company, Lawyers Clearing House, Parent, McLaughlin & Nangle and Mel King Institute, the seminar was held at 10 Post Office Square, Boston. The speakers were James Kennedy, Parent, McLaughlin & Nangle, and Chris Hulse, NRS, Inc.

Mr. Kennedy, an audit partner at PMN, has been with the Firm since 1978 where he has provided audit and consulting services to employee benefit plans and not-for-profit organizations. Currently, Jim is the director of the Firm’s employee benefit plan practice which consists of approximately 80 audits.

Mr. Hulse, Chief Operating Officer for NRS, Inc., delivers innovative trust product administration services to over 400 clients. NRS provides accounting, valuation and reporting services for retirement, non-profit and investment management programs.
