Saan na nga ba tayo PNHS CAT Alumni?

Una kong naisipang gumawa ng online site para sa mga alumni na CAT Officers ng Paranaque National High School (dating Municipal High School) noong 2006. Gumawa ako ng Yahoo Group at kinalaunan, Friendster. Uso pa kasi ang Friendster noon. MySpace lang ang kalaban na social network nito dati na hindi din naman uso sa Pilipinas. Sumunod yung blog. Sinabay ko sa sarili kong pagsusulat.

Sa mga pagtitipon-tipon, madalas ako tinatanong bakit ko sinubukang i-organize ang CAT alumni ng Mune. Simple lang naman ang dahilan talaga. Importante kasi sa akin ang manatiling konektado sa alumni officers. Ito kasi ang naging sentro ng buhay hayskul ko. Nandito ang mga pinakamalalapit kong kaibigan na nahigitan pa ang mga kaklase ko sa DOST na apat na taon ko din namang nakasama. Bukod doon, alam kong magiging kapaki-pakinabang sa ating lahat ang maging konektado sa isa't-isa dahil sa lawak at lalim ng ating mga talento sa iba't-ibang larangan, at affiliations sa iba't-ibang organisasyon.

Ginusto kong magkaroon ng one-stop portal para sa mga CAT Alumni na naghahanap ng trabaho, hayskul pictures, dating kaklase, dating kasintahan, dating kaaway; sa mga gustong mag-promote ng business o ng fans club, at magyabang nang kung ano-ano pa. Ninais ko na balang araw, nasaan man ang isang dating PNHS CAT Officer, mayroong siyang tatawaging "tahanan" sa internet. Dito, laging kang may ka-buddy. Dito, anong dekada ka man nagtapos sa Mune, siguradong may makakaintindi sa 'yo pag nag-emote ka ng mga di mo makakalimutang karanasan noong hayskul. Dito, sigurado kang pag sinabing mong "pumpings," walang mag-iisip ng porn.

Ngayon, 2011 na. Nag-reformat na ang Friendster. May Facebook account na rin tayo na may humigit sa 200 fans (lang?!). Halos limang taon na ang nakakaraan. Naka-ilang meetings na rin, naka-tatlong out-of-town outing sa loob ng tatlong taon. Naka-ilang birthday na rin si Ma'am Sim na kasama tayo. Naka-ilang reunion na rin ang iba't-ibang batch na nagsipagtapos sa Mune. Eh tayo, saan na?

Nasaan na nga ba tayo? Napag-iwanan na nga ba tayo ng panahon? Magkakatotoo pa ba ang mga pangarap natin na magkasama-sama? Mukhang sa wakas, ako na pasimuno ng lahat ay na-overtake na rin ng mga pangangailangan ng buhay.

Hindi ko na kayo masyado'ng masubaybayan. Maski sarili kong mga kaibigan mismo, hindi ko na makumusta. Masaya na ako'ng makapag-post sa Facebook Page natin ng mga job fairs at job posts at free seminars na natitisod ko sa pagbabasa ko sa internet. Kinakain na rin ng paghahanap ng pera ang oras ko. Paano pa pag may asawa at anak na rin ako'ng makikibahagi na rin sa oras ko? Magagawa ko pa kaya kayong maanyayahan sa kung saan-saan kahit sa sasaglit na kumustahan at pagbabalik-tanaw?

Nito lang summer, may nakasabay akong isa sa inyo sa MRT. Sabi niya sa akin, sabi niya daw sa sarili niya this time talaga sasama na siya sa summer outing. Tatlong taon din kasi siyang naging busy. Nalungkot ako nang sobra. Kahit kasi gusto kong pagbigyan ang ganun, minsan talaga dumarating ang oras na kailangan mo mamili kung ano ba ang uunahin mong paglaanan ng oras.

Nag-text din pala si Ma'am Sim nitong June na nami-miss niya na tayo. Ayun, naiyak ako. At nakakalungkot man, hanggang doon na lang muna ang magagawa ko sa ngayon. Tinatawag na kasi muna ako sa malayo. Hindi ko alam kung ano pa ang mga mangyayari. Babalitaan ko na lang kayo. Pero bago ang lahat, sana magkita-kita ulit muna tayo at magkumustahan kahit sa loob ng iilang oras lang.

Sa August 20, Sabado, kung nasa Metro Manila ka at kaya mong dumaan sa Paranaque, punta ka sa McDonald's sa Kabihasnan. Hindi sa Gatchalian ha. Sa Kabihasnan para maiba naman. May free wifi dun. Mag-wifi muna kayo habang naghihintayan tayo. Darating ako ng mga alas-8. Kung may dumating na iba, maghihintay kami sa inyo. Kung wala, uuwi na ako ng alas-9 pagkatapos ko uminom ng hot choco. Isang oras lang kasi halos itatagal nang battery ng netbook ko eh. Wala akong pambili nang kausap pag naubos na ang battery ko.

Seemingly harmless information can help ID thieves unlock key to your identity.

Your pet's name is a fraudster's best friend.

You may think you're revealing precious little when you tell your Facebook friends that you're dressing your pooch, Puddles, in your favorite color, red, for brunch at Grandma's on Sunday. But you've actually just opened a Pandora's box of risks.

The information consumers willingly, and often unwittingly, post on social-media websites can be a gold mine for fraudsters looking to steal everything from your flat-screen TV to your identity.

What's more, tidbits like your birth date, birthplace and the last school you attended are typically the challenge questions posed by bank websites and online retailers to verify your identity.

"Despite all the awareness that people have about identity fraud and privacy on social networks, there is a disconnect between [that and what they are] disclosing in online space and social environments," said Thomas Oscherwitz, chief privacy officer for ID Analytics, a San Diego-based consumer risk management firm.

More than 24 million Americans 18 years old and older are still leaving their social-network profiles mostly public, meaning they aren't activating privacy controls that limit who can see their information online, according to a Harris Interactive survey conducted in October for ID Analytics.

The survey also found that nearly 70 million U.S. adults on social-networking sites include their birthplace — one of the most common security questions asked by financial institutions — on their profiles.

"The information people are disclosing is not the entire piece of the puzzle but it's certainly helpful," Oscherwitz said. Thieves steal identities in pieces, he said, and layer them on each other for a clearer picture.

Say you post on a social-media site that you're at a tanning salon ahead of your week-long trip to the Bahamas the day after your birthday. You're telling potential burglars that not only are you away from home for an hour or so, but beginning Tuesday, your home likely will be empty for seven days.

"Even listing daily activities can let strangers know your routine and put you at risk," said Gail Cunningham, spokeswoman for the National Foundation of Credit Counseling.

Too much information can hurt you in other ways. John Sileo, a Denver-based identify-theft expert, said your online chatter could equip an ex-spouse with ammunition for a court challenge. Future or current employers could have a problem with information about your personal life that they deem inappropriate for a member of their staff, he said.

You also could be furnishing a would-be stalker with information about your whereabouts. "We are giving people the little pieces of our trust or access to our trust that allows them to get bigger things out of us," said Sileo, founder of the ThinkLikeaSpy.com newsletter.

Tips to Stay Safe

Here's some advice from Sileo, who wrote the "Facebook Safety Survival Guide," about protecting online privacy on all social-networking sites:

• Never post your exact date and place of birth. It's invaluable information to identity thieves, particularly when the two are bundled together.

• Never post your address, phone number or email address. This is plum information to scammers and marketers who are looking for nuggets of your identity.

• Control who can see your personal information. Many social-networking sites have privacy features, but they change often. Know what they are, stay on top of them and restrict your page to your real friends, not friends of friends or someone you met in a bar.

• Limit information about your activities. If you must brag about a trip or a fabulous party, do it after the fact.

• Remember that what you post is public and permanent. Don't put up embarrassing photos that you wouldn't show your grandmother. Don't complain about your job or your boss. Don't say something to or about someone that you wouldn't say to his face. Don't threaten others.

• Know the four types of Facebook users: friends, outsiders, businesses and enemies.

• You should know exactly who wants to be your friend or is asking you to link into their network. Some people will befriend your friends to get to you or your company.

• Be wary of seemingly harmless quizzes. When someone invites you to take a survey, say, "10 Things Others Don't Know About You" or "My Favorite Things," it may be designed to harvest your data. The name of the street you grew up on or your favorite vacation spot could be clues to your passwords.

• Before you share any information anywhere online about yourself or your workplace, ask this question: What would the consequences be if this information fell into the hands of my boss, competitor or people who don't like me?

December 18, 2010 -- CAT Alumni Meeting -- McDo Gatchalian

Marami pong salamat sa mga nagsipunta/ dumaan at pumirma sa ating attendance sheet. At least pumirma, hehe.. Hayst!

So ito po yung updates:

1. It was suggested that the date for the get-together be moved to summer, mga early April para di maging conflict sa mga company outings. Will be coordinating with certain people para ma-finalize na yung date ASAP. Will update everyone as soon as it is finalized.

Incidentally madami pala nagba-batch reunion ngayong mga panahong ito. Last Saturday may get-together yung batch 81 sa Trucos (kaya di kami natuloy doon), last Sunday yung batch 85 (25th anniversary) sa Fortunata, and yung batch 91 daw ay sa Boracay (sosyal!). Said information was provided by Ma'am Sim when I invited her sa Trucos sana. Ang batch 93 section 4 ay may get-together sa January 8, 2011 somewhere sa MOA. Paki-coordinate na lang po with Ma'am Berlyn Maricatol Ferrer sa mga members ng said class para ma-update nya kayo.

2.I am tasked to set an appointment with Principal Urbano Agustin para maka-usap regarding holding the event at the PNHS gym and also, to know kung ano ba yung priority needs ng school na puwede pagpuntahan ng mgaiging proceeds ng event natin. As of December 2008 kasi, we were asked if we can provide a water tank for the school. Sadly, di pa natin afford yun noon. Sana this time, kung wala pa ring tanke, makapagbigay na tayo. :) Before January 15 ay dapat nalinaw na ang mga detalyeng ito para makapag-proceed na tayo.

3.Ang get-together ay for graduates of the PMHS / PNHS Main campus only. Kasi nga naman, the annexes have their own set of teachers, own culture, and etc. Mas maganda mag-focus muna sa Main for a lot of reasons other than these stated differences.

4. Madami pa kailangan pag-usapan. Sample pa lang ang mga sumusunod:
- Sino-sino ang mga committee chair and members?
- Anu-ano ang mga kailangan for the event? Paano at saan makukuha yung mga kailangan na ito?
- Sino-sino ang mga lalapitan for sponsorships?
- Ano ang detailed na game plan for the various activities: solicitation, marketing, registration, etc.?

Thank you very much to everyone who attended! Sana sa December 18 may kasama na bawat isa sa atin to add to the numbers. We really need more people para matuloy ang project natin.

- Instead of a December 2010 activity, Sir Rommel suggested a 2011 date, possibly near Ma'am Sim's birthday, January 29 (saturday).
- nature of activity: reunion + fund-raising to benefit PNHS, i.e. clinic / library / educational materials / priority needs by the school (e.g. water tank)

- Can be promoted as a precursor event to the Batch 96 Grand Rock Reunion in March 2011

SALAMAT! SALAMAT!

Maraming firsts na nangyari sa outing ngayong taon. In the end, ang masasabi ko lang, salamat ng marami sa lahat ng tumulong and yung mga mismong dumating. You have all made this event possible. Iniisip ko nga kung itutuloy ko pa pag-organize sa annual outing. With the surprises that keep coming, siguro, hangga't may decent attendance and hangga't nasa Pinas pa ako, go.... ;)

So, ito yung mga sari-saring kuwento... (from my point of view syempre)

MISSING LA ROCA... sabi nga ni Sir Jojo. Yup, we miss La Roca too but I think a change of scenery did us good. madami na kasi memories yung La Roca, need to make new ones sa iba ding lugar. pero promise, babalik tayo sa La Roca, kahit unofficially. Lalo ngayon na newly renovated sila at may boating area na... :)

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE. naloka ako sa pamangkin kong 1 year and 6 mos old. hataw sa videoke, intsik naman. pero birit bebe pala ang lola mo.... mana sa mga tita na hindi na natulog sa kakakanta. loved the playlists of Jona - love songs (na bumirit nung tulog na lahat ng pipol), Dian- pinoy and pop alternatives (na lagi ko inaagawan ng kanta), and TJ - pop alternatives (konti praktis pa Kuya. sounds good naman lalo na pag may kasabay na "Sprite" hehe)

FIRSTS...

- na may kasama si Ma'am Sim - si Ma'am Tess and ang bagets and makulit na si Nathan

- na hindi nalasing si Ma'am Sim :p sarap Ma'am ng red wine na may coke

- Sir Matt, dumating straight from Tarlac and went back to Tarlac. He really made time to be with us, touched naman kami Sir! pa-share po ng pictures ha.... Also need to mention Sir Jojo's efforts na nagbiyahe pa from Meycuayan straight pa-Laguna para lang hindi ma-miss yung outing.

- na may guests tayo na hindi alumni associated. Yung mga friends ni Sir Jojo. but it was a pleasant surprise kasi masaya sila kasama. and game sa games... nga pala, two all yung score di ba Sir Brando? may tie tayong ibi-break next year...

- na may parent - nanay ko. ang saya!

- hindi umabot yung budget! waah! okay lang, buti na lang may paghuhugutan. Haist! Hirap ng hindi pa mayaman! Darating din tayo diyan, and then fully sponsored na yung outing taon-taon para pupunta na lang kayo... hehe...

- maaga umuwi the next day - 7AM. at least nakapagpahinga ng mahaba-haba before another work day begins. sana next year, may side trip na talaga sa LB.

- na halos lahat nag-sign (yung iba pinilit mag-sign, hehe) sa message board.... pati si Ma'am Sim! :)

PASAWAY... as usual, may mga tumakas sa mga bahay nila at nakigulo sa amin. Hay, puwede po ba next year, isama nyo na lang sila? Hehe... Sir Daga, may napapansin ako tuwing sumusulpot ka sa outing.... ayoko na lang sabihin dito. May isang mama na nag-tumbling sa gilid ng pool for an obvious reason. Si RJ pa yung naka-witness. Ahem....

This was forwarded to me by one of my office mates, perhaps being aware at least of my mounting frustration on not yet being able to decide who to vote for come May 2010. This has been actually reposted all over the internet but I just would like to especially share this with fellow alumni.

This was originally written by a Mr. Gary Tiongco, and posted on the Movement for Better Values site last December 2009. Perhaps the points mentioned here can help you as well (though it would be best to research on your own and not just believe everything that you read).

The Best Choice on Whom Not to vote For: A Non-political Observer's point of View

No offense meant to ardent supporters of Noynoy, some of whom are my close friends. Just a point of view of a non political observer.

NOY

In every election, the easiest choice to make is, who you would not vote for. This year, it is profoundly difficult because for me the easiest identifiable candidate whom I would not vote for, (aside from Erap of course, for who would vote for a convicted plunderer) is a leading candidate, with the widest of margin in the survey, Noynoy. He probably will be the next president and so, in my heart, I tried my best to consider and reconsider my decision, yet I became more convinced that he is my best choice on whom not to vote for. These are in my thoughts:

He is clean and honest

He really is unblemished, squeaky clean and immaculate.. . His record for nine years speaks for himself. I am reminded of a friend of mine, a cocky but very articulate and bright Solicitor General. At a certain time before he started winning his cases, his critics had a heyday criticizing the way he handled his job. They said, he had a perfect record of losing all cases. Thus, his record was clean and unblemished of victory. Like this solicitor general, Noynoy has also no record of dishonesty simply because he has no record of accomplishment at all. He was one of the prominent members of the committee of silence. I goggled his name to find out if, except for his name, there was anything he did that he should be proud of. I am sorry that I found nothing. It is time he reveals what he had done in congress for nine years, plus two years in the senate, to deserve the presidency. When he ran for Senate, he simply relied on his family name and the endorsement of his mother. Being in the Senate with no accomplishment will not hurt the nation except the wasted money paid to him as a public servant. But to be president and not knowing what to do is probably as disastrous as a corrupt president.

He comes from a good stock

A prominent columnist of the Inquirer believes that since hero's blood runs in his veins, he is a natural hero and would do nothing to shame the good name. The prominent columnist also said that what we need is a good heart and correct values and Noynoy fits to the T. Of course heritage is a plus factor but unfortunately, this is no assurance that he too will be as upright as his parents.. We do not have to look far. Look at his sister. She even gloated and flaunted her sexual indiscretions and gave press interviews of her indecent acts, in spite of the fact that at that time, her dear mother was very much alive. She fueled salacious gossip about her sexual escapades that she grabbed the headlines for days of the local papers. Not only that. She proudly proclaimed that she will have to do a wash over of sorts, on the personality of Noynoy. To be fair, since Noynoy is not the sister's keeper, he should publicly open how he spent his several hundred million, probably billions of pesos, if cumulatively taken together, of pork barrel. Joker and Lacson did not spend a single centavo on their pork barrel allocations. Moreover, Noynoy has not been battle tested; we do not know how he will react to temptation, simply because he has not been where the action is. He can not honestly and truthfully say that he is goodness personified and all others are evil just because he is the son of Cory. It is sheer arrogance and hypocrisy to make such claim.

He comes unprepared

Before the death of former Pres Cory, nobody considered him of presidential caliber, not even for vice president. His party mates knew of his capabilities and did not even look at his direction when they then considered their standard bearer. Noynoy himself, conscious of his own limitations, did not even dream of being one. When his mother died and there was public mourning, all of a sudden, his party mates in spite of knowing his limited capabilities, and taking advantage of public sentiments, pushed him to be a candidate to the noble office of the presidency. This factual milieu clearly shows that his popularity is solely and purely for sentimental reasons, the death of Pres Cory. His supporters are praying to high heavens that the public sentiments on his parents would not wane and that the public would not see through the real Noynoy. Stripped of all sentimentality, there is nothing in his bio data that shows he is capable of the challenges of the highest office of the land. His biodata is uninspiring, to say the least. Aside from his public office due to his lineage, he was a sales person of Mondragon Industries, and a member of the board of directors of a security agency which the family owns. How in heavens name will he run the country? Pres Cory's landmark of achievement in her administration was her Land Reform program. Our own 24 hectares of irrigated rice land in Kinamayan, Davao del Norte was subjected to land reform and my Dad wanted to fight it out but I counseled him to surrender the land as I explained to him that ultimately the entire country will benefit from this pestering problem of unjust distribution of wealth. He understood the situation that each of us had to make sacrifices for the common good. This is not a unique scenario in Mindanao, then known as the Land of Promise . Little did we know that Pres Cory distributed all other people's landholdings except her own Hacienda Luisita. She asked all of us to make sacrifices, except her own family. Her tenants protested and in the ensuing protest several tenants were mowed down. The tenants were unarmed and no casualties were suffered on the side of the soldiers trying to disperse the tenants. Of course, Noynoy is not her mother's keeper, nor do I intend to diminish her mother's role as our leader who toppled the dictatorship. But when Noynoy declared his candidacy, he was asked point blank, what he planned to do with Hacienda Luisita. He had no ready answer but promised to give a stand soon. Three months passed and still no answer. Is he really prepared?

Trust

The argument goes, that since the people lost trust in the present leadership, Noynoy comes as a white knight, enjoying the trust and confidence of the people. But why should we trust Noynoy? Has he done something to deserve our trust?" Trust is earned, deserved and not bestowed nor inherited. We are now bombarded with propaganda about the goodness of Pres Cory, to the extent that Noynoy propagandists even go to the limit of declaring her a saint, in the hope that people will also view Noynoy as saint- like. The Liberal Party had even formulated its battle cry: "this (the election) is a fight between good and evil". My goodness, don't you agree that a man who pontificates that he represents goodness is really suspect of some loose screws somewhere. Noynoy's handlers forgot the basic need of a responsible candidate-the need to have an advocacy. It should be pointed out that Noynoy has no advocacy at all in his public life. He won his senate seat solely upon his family name, like Loi Ejercito, Pia Cayetano, Bong Revilla and the like. This is very important to those who are very discerning. We do not know to what directions we will be going, with him as a leader. It is fearsome to have a president who is not only unprepared and unqualified, but also to be under the control of unknown advisers and heaven forbid, under the tutelage of his movie star sister. It becomes more dreadful because his popularity is seemingly sustained, thanks to the biased and twisted reporting of our media and most especially of a very large TV network who all have their interests to protect. The above mentioned points are correct. I am simply saying that Noynoy is "Not Worth Voting for" because:

1. He has no capability to govern
2. He relies solely on the name of his parents
3. He has no advocacy
4. He has no achievement on his own
5. He is pure creation of media

Sadly, only Noynoy has all these attributes among all presidential candidates.

This is for everyone who would like to greet Ma'am Sim personally on her 60th birthday this coming Saturday. According to Sir Brando, kita-kita na lang daw tayo sa Bernabe gate ng 10pm. For those who would like to hang out first, kita-kits na lang po tayo sa McDo Gatchalian ng 9pm.

Reminder po na potluck po tayo. Manggagaling pa po si Ma'am Sim sa isang kasalan kaya for sure wala siyang handa sa bahay. Please don't forget to bring your gifts to Ma'am Sim and/ or food/ drinks or kung anu man ang gusto nyo dalhin for the occasion. Magandang idea din yung mag-chip in yung magkaka-batchmates/ buddies. Also, bring your digital cameras (with cable para upload online na agad later. don't forget to charge your batteries) dahil out-of-service yung digicam na madalas dati gamit pag alumni events. Para siguradong may pictures tayo na ipo-post later sa ating sites.

Hindi po kami nagprepare ng program but puwede naman tayo mag-impromptu. Hehe. Welcome yung mga gustong magpakita ng talents especially fro Ma'am Sim. :)

It has been sometime since we last heard from each other, and since malapit na ulit ang birthday ng nag-iisa nating Ma'am Sim (January 30), I decided to call for a meet-up this coming Saturday... Please help me spread the word para madami ang magsi-attend. Wala po tayo naging activity after nung summer swimming, sana this year maging active ulit tayo.
