I recommend a trip to the gallery to see both shows and in particular the incredible video work of Victor Alimpiev which I found both mesmerising and slightly disturbing with intricate choreography set against a backdrop of nothingness…

They just uploaded a quirky slow motion clip I made whilst testing out the slow motion capabilities of the Sony Z5 HDV video camera. It’s a pretty cool function on the camera allowing you to record 200fps in bursts of 3, 6 and 12 seconds! The camera records into its own memory at a slightly lower res than SD then records back to HDV… The quality still looks pretty good…

Penone is an incredibly important and influential artist, his work linked to nature and how we interact with our environment, it raises many questions and often challenges conventional notions of art.

I recommend giving the documentary a watch and taking a trip to the Ikon before the show closes on 19th July. 

About a month ago I went to visit and create the current Ikon documentary with Iain Bain, art historian and authority on Bewick.

Iain discusses his connection with Bewick and the tools used to create such detailed wood engravings and how these are then turned into prints using a hand press.

The video is now live on the Ikon site. Watch to get an insight into the talent of Bewick and what went into creating such magnificent prints.... 

The Destroyers music video I shot with director John Humphreys is now up online on the Prime Objective site! Was a hell of a shoot way back last May - there are some posts about it in related posts to the right....  Go take a watch!

I’ve been collaborating on Black Tonic since its starting point over a year ago and it’s great to see how it has evolved during that time! 

So far it’s piloted in London, had an incredible run in Manchester and over the next couple of weeks will take place at the Raddisson hotel in Birmingham. It’s also picked up a ton of good reviews such as this one in the Independent.

Tonight sees the launch of the 3rd Flatpack festival! You might be forgiven for thinking it’s a geeky furniture festival sponsored by Ikea but no Flatpack is actually one of the finest film festivals in Britain, the creation of 7Inch Cinema and will be bringing a hours of cinematic delights to the city of Birmingham over the next five days! The launch tonight is at Birmingham Town Hall with the Curzonora performance from my old pals The Destroyers, their 15 piece energetic performance will be set against a range of films originally shown by showman Waller Jeffs back in the early 1900s!

I strongly recommend you make an effort to attend as many of the Flatpack events as you can! Inspiration, fun and lovely film making folk guaranteed! 

Check out the video footage you can get using the Jag lens attachment! Make your handy cam images look closer to 35mm film with awesome depth of field! Amazing what a good piece of glass can do for you!

I’ve spent the last few days filming the installation down at Ikon and discussing Victor’s work with curator Nigel Prince. The edited video is now live on the Ikon site to aid a greater understanding of the work. Enjoy!

Set within a hotel, audience arrive 2 x 2, check into their rooms and make themselves comfortable before a journey into the dark world of Black Tonic begins. Unraveling a truly original detective story as they travel along corridors and into bedrooms, piecing together clues that uncover what really makes the hotel tick!

The show starts tomorrow at the Place Hotel, Manchester and runs until 30th November! See below for more info…

I’ll be doing a live VJ set to the tunes of Mr Dom Murphy from TAK! We’re on from about 10pm if you’re thinking of coming down!

Should be a fun night with some of the best Lithuanian hip hop acts in attendance, such as 3 times Lithuanian DMC champion DJ Mamania and the Baltic States acclaimed beatboxer Def One! 

It’s now set to do a short tour of cinemas throughout England, including Birmingham’s Electric Cinema 24th November! I was stood right next to the 16mm film camera on a lot of the shots so looking forward to actually seeing the finished film!
