We thought this was interesting. Not only was it a sports related podcast which topped Podcast.com’s top 10 list of 2007, but it was an independently produced podcast.

To us, this illustrates that the grassroots philosophy on which podcasting was founded, nurtured and grown pre-iTunes (circa June 2005) is still alive and well.

First, you find your voice via your passion, however niche that may be.

Second, you don’t need to be part of old media to have a successful podcast.

This second point is very refreshing, especially when you glance at the top podcasts in iTunes (the podcasts receiving the most new subscribers); the vast majority are from old media sources (TV and radio). But the Podcast.com rank for an indie ‘cast shows that indie shows can be popular.
