Pokemon Coloring Pages

Image via WikipediaIf you have kids or you like coloring, I'm sure you realize that you aren't limited to coloring books anymore. With everything and anything up on the web now, you're just a quick search away from tons of coloring pages. And since this is a Pokemon blog, of course we're going to be searching for Pokemon Coloring Pages.

Most coloring websites are organized by popular characters or themes. For example, click on Pokemon Coloring pages and you'll get a grid of small sized images for you to choose from. Click the one you want and it'll load into the full browser window for printing. Some sites have print links directly on the page. This is helpful when a site has tons of ads on the same pages as the images. And believe me, all of these coloring sites have tons of ads.

This site is in French but there's very little advertising that gets in the way of printing out these coloring pages. And the selection of Pokemon is very much up to date. Lots of these sites have pages from the original Pokemon game/cartoon and have never updated.

Although this is one of those sites with a selection from only the original 151 Pokemon characters, it's still very good. Ads and pop-ups are there but don't get in the way too much. What's also nice is that they pages are categorized by Pokemon Type. Want to color a Psychic Pokemon, then click on the Psychic category link.

These Pokemon Coloring Pages are a mystery because they're listed as Page 1 through Page 20 and that's it. You have to view each page to see what's on them. Works out great for their pageviews but not too great if you're looking for a specific Pokemon to color.

If you're looking to for specific Pokemon to color then this is the site for you. The text links on these pages are set up to mirror a Pokedex. Find the Pokemon or number that you want and print away. They only go up to #251 so it's not too out of date.

Darkrai at Toys R Us

If you're looking to play Pokemon online, you are sadly out of luck.

I just saw this on Mahalo:

"Pokemon Crater was an online Pokemon battle arena that allowed users to sign up for a free account, acquire Pokemon and then battle with them over the internet. The site has not been operational since December 1, 2007. It is speculated that the site's creator "Aaron" closed Pokemon Crater when he graduated from college."

Well congratulations to Aaron for graduating college but what about Pokemon fans? I'd still really like to see Nintendo make a 3-D, online, multi-player Pokemon game sort of like Worlds of Warcraft but I'm not getting my hopes up.

The Rise of Darkrai

The latest Pokemon Movie, The Rise of Darkrai premiered on Cartoon Network a few weeks ago but if you missed it, it'll be available on DVD, May 27, 2008. The animation in this movie is definitely a step up from the other Pokemon movies and it's leaps and bounds ahead of the TV show. Everything has been drawn in more detail with a lot of attention paid to shading and shadows. Very nicely done.

The Rise of Darkrai story is a little on the metaphysical side with Dialga and Palkia fighting above Alamos Town with the fate of the space-time continuum at stake. Then there's Ash and his friends getting involved in their usual exploring and Pokemon battles as well. Once Alamos Town starts disappearing, the gang figures out that there's something wrong and tries to help.

So who's Darkrai, you may ask. Well Darkrai is a loner Pokemon that can give everyone bad dreams. So of course he's being blamed for the town's disappearing problems. One of the best scenes in the movie is when Darkrai turns stuffed shirt Baron Alberto in a Lickilicky Pokemon and who doesn't love Lickilicky?

So if you're looking for some nicely drawn Pokemon action, The Rise of Darkrai is right up your alley. The story is a little odd but still enjoyable.

Pokemon Lollipop Recall

Pokemon Valentine Lollipops are being recalled after several incidents in Florida where metal was found in the candy.

Investigators are saying that it doesn't look like product tampering and that they suspect it was a manufacturing problem that caused the metal fragments to become embedded in the lollipops.

I'm very happy that Super Smash Bros. Brawl was finally released in Japan and that it's selling really well. But I'm also really jealous that 1.08 million people are already playing the game and I'm not one of them.

I guess everyone has been waiting for a hot new game for the Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl seems to be it.

Of all the Pokemon Toys that I've seen in the stores, I'd have to say that the mini action figures have to be my favorite. They're really more like collectable statues than action figures but I still think they're a lot of fun.

What's good about them is that they really look like Pokemon. You know how sometimes toys that are based on television shows or movies look pretty bad? You've definitely picked a bad one when you give one of those toys to your kids and they're like, "who's this?".

These Pokemon figures are inexpensive too. You can go to any ToysRUs and get three of them in one package for less than $10. That means you're paying $3.33 cents per Pokemon and in my book that's a bargain.

A lot of times all the bells and whistles and latest doo-dads make for good toys. But every once in a while, something simple and fun comes along and makes me rethink what I'm looking for in a toy. These little Pokemon figures do just that.

It looks like Pokemon Ranger 2 will be released for the Nintendo DS sometime in fourth quarter of 2008. And that's good news for people who like to use the stylus to catch Pokemon. Of excuse me, it's actually called a Styler in the game itself.

Pokemon Ranger was a fun game and I can't wait to see how they've improved the game for the sequel. As far as I'm concerned the more Pokemon games that are released, the better. But I would really like to play Pokemon online.

The people in charge of making Pokemon popular again have done a great job. Pokemon was big a few years ago and it's recently made an amazing comeback. A whole new generation of kids are trying to catch them all.

It's a very good time to be a Pokemon fan. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS have been in the Top 10 best selling games for months now and the Diamond and Pearl cartoon is pretty popular too. But why stop there? I have a vision and Pokemon people feel free to borrow this idea from me, that would make Pokemon an even more dominant gaming franchise. I'd like to see a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) based on the world of Pokemon.

Sure, I know that's there's a few Pokemon games online like Pokemon Crater and Pokemon Online (POL) but those games are pretty simple and based on the the game play of the Game Boy Advance version of Pokemon. And I don't even think that Nintendo has anything to do with them. They could be one cease and desist letter away from being shut down.

I'd like to see a World of Warcraft style Pokemon game online. Use the same story line and game play but put the players in a cartoony 3D environment. Choose your trainer avatar and start your adventure. Think about how cool it would be to wander around different towns and cities, catch wild Pokemon, train them, battle other trainers, do gym battles, collect badges and enter tournaments and do it all in a online 3D environment that you share with other Pokemon trainers. And to make it interesting they could add some members of Team Rocket to mix.

This would be a great game for the Wii's Online Service. Pokemon Battle Revolution is out and it already has online play in Japan but that game is just an extension of Diamond and Pearl. Without a DS, that game isn't too good. No, they need to start over with a whole new online Pokemon game.

The Nintendo Wii is the hottest selling new video game console right now and it's outselling the PS3 and XBox 360. The Wii is still hard to find in the stores and that isn't going to change anytime soon. The Wii's only weakness seems to be it's online play which is weak at best. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is going to have online play but it's release has been pushed back to February. My Worlds of Warcraft Pokemon game idea (let's call it Worlds of Pokemon for this article) if done right, could become the game that puts the Wii Online Service on the map.

Hopefully someone at Nintendo has already come up with this idea and programmers are already hard at work on Worlds of Pokemon. If not, then I hope they have enough free time to come here to PokemonToday and get inspired.

Want to read an article by someone who blames Pokemon for the downfall of civilization? Then be sure to check out, "Japanese anime destroying American Society".

The author claims that shows like Pokemon have no redeeming value and the children who watch it are destined to lead society into ruins.

"So what is Pokemon teaching the next generation of kids? The virtues of capturing exotic animals and making them fight for your amusement? I already learned that from Michael Vick."

"The next generations of kids aren't even getting a chance. Unless something is done to reverse this trend, we're going to be looking at millions of high school dropouts who don't see the point in going to college unless it teaches them to capture magic crystals."

When I posted this, there were 77 angry comments and I'm sure he's going to get more, but I think that was the idea. I'm not familiar with this "Independent student newspaper at the University of Oregon" but this article is probably getting a lot of pageviews which will definitely make their sponsors happy. Mission accomplished, Pokemon hater.

Pokemon Pokedex - Posters and Guide Books

If an electronic Pokemon Pokedex isn't your thing, there are some alternatives for all of your Pokedexing needs.

Pokemon Posters are an easy way to look up all of your Pokemon. In fact, using them could sometimes be quicker than scrolling through the electronic versions. All the information you need is right there on the poster.

Pokemon Guide Books will often include a Pokedex. The guide books usually contain more information than the posters because they can spread it out over several pages.

So if thought of Dexter talking to you while your playing Pokemon is kind of creepy, you still have a few Pokedex options.

Pokemon Trainers not only want to catch them all but they also want to catalog them all too. And to do this, they need a Pokemon Pokedex.

A Pokedex is a valuable tool to help Pokemon trainers identify the Pokemon that they find out in the wild. It's sort of an Electronic Encyclopedia of Pokemon. And since no one has time to read a tiny little computer screen in the middle of a Pokemon battle, the Pokedex can talk.

Let's say you run into a wild Pokemon out in the tall grass. Hmmm, never saw one of them before, better consult the Pokedex. Just hold it at the Pokemon and it'll tell you what you've got.

I'm guessing that the Pokedex in the cartoons has some sort of sensor that can tell what kind of Pokemon it's being pointed at but I've never seen any details about how it works.

In the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl cartoons, Ash and Dawn also use their Pokedexes as a form of ID to enter a Pokemon Contest.

The Pokemon Pokedex Toy that appears above is made by Jakks and looks exactly like the one Ash has in the cartoon. It contains over 150 Pokemon and displays short animations of Pokemon on it's small LCD screen. This Pokedex also speaks and the voice is the same on that you'll hear from the cartoon. There's a couple of games included but don't nothing too fancy. If you want to play Pokemon games, stick to your DS or GBA. But definitely a fun toy that your favorite Pokemon Trainer will enjoy.

New Pokemon

At the beginning of the old Pokemon video games, your character pays a visit to Professor Oak. Being the nice old retired Pokemon Trainer that he is, he gives you your very first Pokemon. After many years as a Pokemon trainer himself, Professor Oak now spends his days messing around with his Pokedex, so it's only fitting that he gives away his last few Pokemon. You get one and one goes to your rival.

The exciting part is that now in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl you get to choose from three New Pokemon. The old games (Red, Blue, Green, FireRed and LeafGreen) had Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur. I guess they felt that New Pokemon trainers needed some new choices so now you can choose from Chimchar, Piplup or Turtwig.

Chimchar is a fire type Pokemon that looks like a monkey, Piplup is a water type Pokemon that looks like a penguin and Turtwig is a plant type Pokemon that looks like a turtle.

In the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl cartoon, Dawn got a Piplup from Professor Rohan and Ash eventually found a wild Turtwig. If you think you'll miss Squirtle and the gang, give these new Pokemon a chance. They'll definitely grow on you.

Piplup To Appear In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The marketing guys for Super Smash Bros. Brawl are super geniuses. We keep hearing little bits of news about the upcoming Wii game on the Super Smash Bros website all the time. And that's much more effective for building a buzz than the usual methods. First because people like me are checking the site almost everyday for new announcements and second, because it's keeping Super Smash Bros. constantly in the news and constantly in the minds of the people looking to buy it.

I'm only posting about the Pokemon related news but even so, there's still a lot of it. There was the announcement about the addition of the Pokemon Trainer, then they let us know that the Pokemon Trainer would have a total of 9 special moves by using his three Pokemon (Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard). And just recently Munchlax was added to the brawl as well.

Now this week we get news on the official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website that that Piplup has now been added as an item. This game is turning into a Pokemon fan's dream. Piplup, reportedly comes out of it's Pokeball and uses surf to wash away anyone in it's path.

I hope that those marketing guys are being rewarded for the excellent job that they're doing.
