Pro or Bust

In the Midst of &#160;recession, economic depression and a great deal of other global issues I don't care about&#160;- It dawns on me; &#160;what better time could there be to carve out a career as a Pro Poker Player.
My Situation:
After flunking out of university a few years ago due to lack of motivation, (well actually; due to the fact that I'm a massive pot head), I found myself bouncing around from one dead end job to the other - serving drinks, working in call centers; all the usually customer service crap.
I've been playing poker for about 4 years now, the last 2 online, and after losing my Job two months ago I made the decision to try and play poker for a living.
My total profit online amounts to about $1000 all of which I have cashed out and spent. My plan now is to A) Build a bankroll B) turn a profit of over $1600 per month C) Not get another Job.
Now I am no idiot. I realise that I may not have proven statistics that say this is a good idea, and trying to earn more money in 1 month than I have in 2 years may not seem achievable, but this is my reasoning -&#160;
- The money I have earned so far has been from playing the odd few games at the weekend, I have never sat down and decided to play long shifts.&#160;&#160;I would have several thousand more if I did not enter large tournaments so playing SNG only is profitable for me.
- I have never had the time I need to devote to playing poker and this point in my life may been the only chance I have to attempt it.
- If I focus all my attention on playing sound poker and stay within my limits I am confident I can maintain and build a roll.&#160;
- I am great at HU Poker - my biggest winning streak is 13 games on Pokerstars.
- I really, really, really, don't want to get another job&#160;
So call me arrogant, call me stupid, call me crazy, Call me Susan - I don't care! This is what I am going to do, so I thought I would open up a little blog to chart my voyage into the unknown.
My current Balance on Stars is $0.00 I am going to take my laptop, sell it, and cash the proceeds onto my account - (Don't worry, I have a desktop PC too)&#160;I Plan to build up to about $500 on HU before multi-tabling SNG's,&#160;the rest is history (Well technically its the future).
I'll let you know how it all pans out.......

Fun With Hold'em Continued

On my last post I&#160;talked about the change from Razz back to Hold'em. I&#160;hadn't played much NL Hold'em in a while, and it did me a lot of good. I'm having fun again, and winning too - funny what some time away can do for your frame of mind. Anyway, I've played NL Hold'em for several days in a row now, and I'm winning at almost every session. Maybe it's just a run of good luck, maybe I'm playing well, or maybe some of both. Either way, I'm having fun and make bankroll is going up! The last session was earlier today, at Pokerstars. Played some $1/2 NL, then $2/4 for a while too. Here's a hand I thought was funny, and I didn't realize people were still playing this bad. I'm UTG with KQ os. Action folds to me, I raise to $6. BB&#160;reraises to $15, I call. About 2 hands prior to this he'd lost a sizeable pot when he got rivered by a 3 outer, so I had a gut feeling he was on tilt. Flop comes AQ4. He leads out for $10, I raise to $25 to see where I'm at. He flat calls. Turn comes a 9. He checks, I&#160;bet $35 into a pot of $80, he reraises all-in for about $65 on top of my $35. No straight or flush draws, I don't have him on an ace, and I think he's tilting. I have second pair and go into the tank for a bit, and call. My opponent shows 7,3 os, for absolutely nothing, just like I suspected. I win the pot, and for the next 5 minutes while he sits there broke all he does is berate my 'donkey call' with nothing more than 2nd pair. Lol. It cracks me up when people don't realize there is more to the game than the power of your hand. They'll never learn, and thank god for that. Anyhow, I take that and move up to $2/4, feeling my oats, and feeling good about my play. I used to play $5/10, but I haven't played NL&#160;Hold'em in so long that I've been taking it slow, relearning wtf I'm supposed to do. A little more than 2 hours later I'd made another $84, and finished for the day. To be perfectly honest, I&#160;was actually up about $220 at one point, then donked off about $110 within a couple of hands. I&#160;realized my game was getting bad, so I left with my profit before I gave it all back. That's another thing that is good about coming back to the game with the mindset I have now. Now I play for fun, and I have fun if I'm playing well. If I'm playing bad, its not fun, so I stop. Why did it take so long to figure thatone out? Duh. Ok, I realize I'm rambling now, so I'll stop, lol. Before I go, I have a little Pokerstars Coupon Code site you can check out if you're looking to open an account at Pokerstars. Although, to be honest it shocks me there are still people out there who don't have accounts there. It's kinda like being 30 years old and having never eaten at McDonalds. Thanks for reading!<div class="feedflare">

Playing The Bubble Going Out 10th In MTT With QQ

HI ALL

I was playing a 180 players MTT and was down to 10 players. I had been card dead and was sitting on 5900 and the blinds were 300 - 600 with a 50 anty. I wanted to just sit till the final table and increase my pay out but you can not be a punk and lay down good hands here. I was on the big blind I was delt  The button raised to 1800 (he had 59k) and I pushed all in. I had seen that player steal blinds before with crap so I was farly certin I was ahead. When the cards were turned over he had . Needles to say he hit an ace on the river and I was out. Now all that being said I think I should have folded and waited for the final table on the other hand you can not just lay that down could I have called pre flop then shoved the flop? What do you think I would love any input form any body.&#160;
I was making a training video so once it is ready I will post a link.&#160;

Having Fun With NL Hold'em Again

After taking a good amount of time off from NL Hold'em cash games, I'm finally having fun again. In case you don't want to read a bunch, I'll tell you the moral of this story right off the bat. If you're bored with NL Hold'em (or any game for that matter), try something else for a while!
I've spent most of my time recently playing Razz, until yesterday when I was looking for a change. Like most people, when I first started playing, I started with NL Hold'em. After a while I moved to FL instead to keep the fluctuations (and my blood pressure) down. I&#160;enjoyed the slow but sure rise in my bankroll that FL games were giving me, but after a while it just got incredibly boring to me. Of course I play a lot of NL Hold'em tournaments, but that's a whole different animal than cash games.
Yesterday I sat down at a NL cash game at FT and decided to take it seriously. About 1 hour in I had almost tripled my initial buy-in, and I was playing well. Well, to be honest I'm not really sure how well I was playing, but I felt like I was making some good decisions (and the deck hit me nicely a few times also).
This morning I got onto Pokerstars and played some more. The game was so tight that I started playing almost every pot, getting very aggressive. Only one guy at the table wanted to play with me, and he was playing with as much junk as I was. We went back and forth, trading pots and stealing everyone elses blinds. Eventually we were even joking that nobody else had the heart to play...trying to get them to loosen up of course. One guy started playing a bit, the rest continued to play like rocks.
One sequence of hands had me lmao. First, I made quad J's against my opponents full house. The very NEXT hand I made 6's full of J's when that SAME opponent made quad 6's. How bizarre is that? About 3 hands later we had someone with the small end of a straight flush get beaten by the big end. Within the next 10 hands we had 4-5 more monsters beat by monsters, it was pretty sick - and fun!
I have come completely full circle with poker. When I first started playing it was for the fun of it. Later it was to make money, albeit not a 'lot' of money. For the last 8-10 months I've let the dreams of becoming a poker champion go away, and the fun is coming back. I play more hands, make more moves, take it less seriously, and have been enjoying the game a lot more. If you're getting bored with your regular game, try something new. It might be what you need to start having fun again.
Btw, if there is still anyone who isn't playing at Pokerstars, did you know they have a $600 bonus now? They had that little $50 bonus FOREVER and they finally got rid of it. Before you sign up, you have to get a marketing code for Pokerstars so you can get the bonus.<div class="feedflare">

Laying Down Ace King On The Flop

Hi AllI have been inspired to write a little bit on AK on the flop. From most position pre flop you are going to raise with you AK, sometimes even call a raise or re-raise. You often find yourself missing the flop. How you play here depends on alot of things. If you were the raiser pre flop make a CB IF you think you have a good chance of taking down the pot. If you are in with a call station and get a check in front of you or think you can get a check behind you this may be a spot to check and try and catch up. Now if you CB and get a call or a re-raise slow down and procide with caustion. Sometimes you have to lay down the AK here to a re-raise. Sometime you can bet again on the turn to rake the pot but you have to evaluate the texture of the other players hands and how they play. Only bet if you are sure you can take down the pot. Have a reason for betting beside it is the thing to do CB. Just because you have AK does not mean you have the best hand. Now sometimes you hit the flop. Top pair good kicker. Make you CB here and be bold. Bet to win the pot no need for any more action. Top pair with AK often falls to a straight if you let someone get more cards. Take the pot here. Now when faced with a re-raise again you have to evaluate why that player is making that move and with what cards. You should already have a idea of what cards they play if not you may want to give them credit for a hand and lay down. Now if you know them to make foolish all in moves take them down. Top pair is a good hand but dont get cought overplaying it.Now somethime you hit a monster. Trips a straight what ever. If you think you can raise and get action raise. If you think the player will bet check raise. Your goal is to exstract chips. Well I hope you like the post please comment.<div class="feedflare">

Getting Jobbed at the Table? Follow this Saintly Advice!

You're playing that tournament and the hands you see are, at the best, off suit 3-gappers. Hand after hand after hand is 9/5, 7/3, J/4 and maybe a K/3 UTG. Then the UTG (a solid player) makes a min raise which is 2-bet from UTG+1 (who's the tightest rock of a player you've ever seen). It folds to you in the hijack position (2 to the right of the button) and you look down at K/Q suited. Your heart momentarily flutters. "Ahh, FINALLY a decent hand," you say to yourself. "I haven't had a good hand in days - I've got to play this." That's a big mistake. You should fold - yet again - and wait for a hand or good situation - yet again.Today we live in an age of instant gratification. We can get instant credit, search the web for instant answers and much more. We have little patience for anything that takes time. The average attention span for an adult is about 20 minutes (can you say 30-minute sit com). That's bad if you're a poker player. What you should do is to try and follow the example of St. Monica - the patron Saint of Patience. Years (and I mean years) of prayer, coupled with a strong, well-disciplined internal character, finally led her to convince her husband and son (later to become St. Augustine) to become pious.Recently, I have been reminded of the value of patience several times when it comes to poker. A couple weeks back I was watching a friend of mine play a 45 person SNG on FullTilt. These pay out the top six. He made the final table (9 players) as the short stack with 7 or 8 times the BB left. He folded. He folded again. He kept folding until he was down to 3 or 4 times the BB when he went all in and doubled up. He went back to folding - living up to his home league nickname "Blind Me Down". He got down to 5 BBs, moved all in and doubled up again. He got into the money. Some more folding took place before another double up (with about 7 BBs) and a card rush propelled him to full victory (and the hefty first place prize for this was no $2.25 tourney).Later that week I was in the bar poker league I play in. We reached final table (8 players) and I had 4BBs left. I folded and folded and folded. I was able to double up (plus a little extra) once and steal blinds once but pretty much kept folding. I got a little lucky when the big stacks decided to start to take each other on with 5 people left. Next thing I knew (in literally 6 or 7 hands) I was heads up with the chip leader. I was in terrible shape with only about 10% of the chips (about 10K in chips to 110K) and finished in second after two hands of heads up play. But, even in free bar poker, 2nd tends to pay something - 7th or 8th doesn't. I didn't needlessly push or call and was rewarded, just as Blind Me Down got rewarded. An additional two or three clear examples of the value of patience happened to me or others I was observing since then. It's happened often enough that it seemed like a good time to write about the importance of patience and to reiterate the gem that ancient Greek poet Hesiod wrote: "If you add a little to a little, and then do it again, soon that little shall be much." Or, in poker parlance - a few double ups puts you back into the game. You are never forced to call (or push). And, sometimes, even when the "math" is right or you've FINALLY gotten a hand after being "card-dead" since Air Supply was HOT, your knowledge of the game screams at you to exercise patience (i.e. - "I'm beat, fold and wait") or, at least it should (see the example I led off with at the top).Saint Augustine learned well from his mother (St. Monica) and wrote that: "Patience is the companion of wisdom." I hope this post reminds you of that truth.<div class="feedflare">

I&#160;use the Google Toolbar in Firefox and stumbled across a cool use for it!&#160;Put your home poker league scoreboard or personal poker player stats directly into the toolbar. This means you can access your poker league scores from where-ever you are with a simple click...
Here is a screenshot of my own player scores in the Google Toolbar, but you really should try it with your own poker league to see how cool it is!
&#160;

Just make sure you have the latest Google Toolbar installed and check out our Google Poker Widgets and add the ones you want!<div class="feedflare">

Thank You All

Hey everybody, I appreciated all the thanks and congrats I re'cd....u all are a wonderful community.Life changes and I now have to move on so to speak. I start a new job (my first in like 4 yrs, guess I have been really lucky) tomorrow. So no more 5,000 hands a day, no more playing till 2:00 a.m. I am grateful that I did hit it big last week and still havent spent the money lol...our only plans for the money (besides saving for retirement) is to take a vacation to Australia, New Zealand and Saipan to see relatives and friends. That probably wont happen for another year atleast till I am eligible for a min of 2 weeks vacation. All that being said, I think I will invest in a coach for Pot Limit Omaha (anybody have some recommendations?) and take it really slow. I really enjoy that game, and there is still alot of money to be made.Today feels like the last day of summer break, and I have to go back to school tomorrow. So, I will hit the casinos today looking for a fun place to play Pai Gow. All the casinos have little different bonuses for playing, like at the Coast casinos which all have a progressive jackpot like the one I won. The Orleans progressive is currently at 121,000.....Maybe lighting strikes twice eh. cya<div class="feedflare">

OMG...I Hit The Progressive Jackpot

Well. Finally I hit it pretty big. I learned how to play Pai Gow poker last week while having dinner at the M casino. While there, I started playing PG poker, they told me that the silverton had a super bonus and it was only a 5.00 table (most or 10.00 tables)Last nite the wife comes home and goes she feels lucky and can we go to the south pointe. I said no I was not interested (she loves the slots and I get bored waiting for her). I then said, I will drop u off and I will go to the silverton and play pai gow poker, she says, okay, I will go with u to the silverton and forget about the south pointe. After one hour at the table, (i started with 100.00) I was down and had not hit a hand I changed seats. I started to hit a few hands like some straights, and flushes, and a bunch of two pairs. Then it happened. I looked at the first 3 cards, they were 2, 3, 4 of clubs. Next card 5c, Oh shit, I said look guys one card to the straight flush, then the 6c, all of sudden I peek at the next card and its the joker, OMG......6 card flush, last card was the 8c....I hit the jackpot being a 7 card straight flush. 46,112.04 CASH.........Thank you very much, cya<div class="feedflare">

Last 20 Home Poker Games on League + Report

Someone requested that the last x home poker games are shown on the league scoreboard page so that you have a quick way of seeing the last couple of games your league has played (useful for double-checking those scores too!) This made sense so this enhancement went live today. There is a new tab on the League page showing the last 20 home poker games (regardless of which season they were played in). It also lists the date played, winner and number of players in the game. The view is alson on the iphone/mobile version and the poker league scoreboard report (automatic and manual) now lists the last 3 poker games for your league as well as the winner. You can also click on a Poker Season withing a League to see ALL&#160;the poker games played for that season with more info. This is just a quick link to the last few games. Thanks for the suggestion - what else would be useful for your league?<div class="feedflare">

Auto Poker League Scoreboard Reports to Players

Poker league scoreboard reports are now sent by default automatically whenever your scoreboard changes.
This saves you as the poker league owner having to manually send a leaderboard update after each game.
Reports are queued up and sent 6 hours or so after the last game (this is to make sure that all the games are finished for a night - for example, if you play 2 games on a night you do not want to send a scoreboard report immediately after the first one). Games have to be active and there must be non-hidden players in a game in order for the report to be sent.
One situation where you might want to send a manual report is when you want to include some custom message about the game or league. In this case you will need to do the report within 6 hours after the game. The auto-scoreboard reporting will check if you have sent it manually so you will not get duplicates.
You can turn this feature off for your poker league by editing your league but we recommend leaving it on as the scoreboard report is very useful to your players to keep them interest in your league!

The scoreboard report will also update your poker league Twitter account if you have set this up for your league.
Note: Auto scoreboard reports only go to active season players (league members who have played at least one game for the current season). If you wish to send a report to all league members you can do this manually as before.
Reports are sent on behalf of the poker league owner as Private Messages (your players can opt not to receive email notifications about this).<div class="feedflare">

Poker league scoreboard reports now update Twitter

Do you have a Twitter account? (It's all the rage these days!). If you are a poker league admin on PokerDIY you can now automatically update your Twitter status when you send a poker league scoreboard report. The advantage of this is that&#160;your players can subscribe to that league account and be alerted on Twitter when the league leaderboard changes! Here is a live example of how the status update will look. This is a personal player account on PokerDIY&#160;a home poker league in Sydney, Australia. When you edit your poker league you can associate a Twitter account with your poker league (if you don't have a twitter account, why not set up one now (it's free). You can of course use your own personal Twitter account too. There is now a new optional section on the Scoreboard Report screen where you can choose to send an update to Twitter: Here's how it looks on Twitter: Why not try it now? Go to your own league and click on "Scoreboard Report"!<div class="feedflare">

Variance. She has been with me for many years now. She can be extremely wishy washy, and very scary at times. I usually find her in one of 3 moods. When she is happy, loving, and caring...she smiles upon me and I tend to be a winner at the tables. Then there are those times where she's not really angry but not happy either. I think she's on her period during these times and I tend to be breakeven at the tables. But look out when she is angry, hurtful, and mean....you know what happens then. You lose, and you lose big, she makes sure of that. Its a real love hate relationship that you cant get away from. So understand her, know her moods and act accordingly. Thats the best advice I can give. Tomorrow I will explain how her moods have affected me in the last 3 weeks. cya<div class="feedflare">

All-In for the Win

I love playing poker, all its variations, but I really fell in love with Texas Hold 'Em. My father taught me everything I need to know about the game. From all the possible hands a player can get, the technicalities of betting and ante to the more complex bluffing and reading required to knockout players and get to the heads-up, my father taught me everything as we played for countless hours with his friends and my siblings. Of course we don't play for money, just chocolate chips (the ones that look like pirates' gold) and good old fun. Sigh, those were the days.
The game became the avenue where we bonded as me and my father grew closer. You can learn a lot about people by watching them play and how they react in different situations of the game. I saw loud-mouthed and arrogant players fold under pressure and I saw some quiet and reserved guys rake in the biggest hauls. I also watched some people who are usually shy and timid in real life but make aggro plays once sitting in the table that baffles even the most seasoned players. Bluffing is my favorite element of the game and I confidently believe that no one can read my poker face except of course my father. When I have something big, he simply folds and he calls my bluffs every single time. Oh well, I can read him also and so it's a tie.
I am attending university now and I miss how we always play poker in the evening in our family room after dinner. I miss the laughter and jeers when a bluffer is caught and the loud hoots and claps when someone pulled in the big one. Now when I am not to busy writing essays and other requirement for schools, I play online poker or sometimes I visit fraternity houses which host mini poker tournament. And I get them everytime. Thanks, Dad, for all the tips and strategies. But now I play for money; no more choco chips for me!&#160;&#160;&#160;<div class="feedflare">

An Agressive Bankroll Management Growth System

Say I am crazy......maybe? So this is an experiment that I will blog every day about. So after much thought and reading a bunch of material on Double or Nothings I came up with an idea. This, after my failure to move up in levels. If you can improve, or refute my system please do.BR $500.00 (could be $300...whatever)start with the $5.00 ( I play regular, not turbo) and play till you win 20 buy ins so you can play the 10.00 tables (if you can't win and lose all your money you shouldnt be playing). So now your br is 600.00.....500+100Start at the 10.00 and the goal is again to win 20 buy ins. if you lose 5 buy ins move back down to the $5.00 tables where you now just lost 1/2 your winnings (50 dollars) and start over. Not sure if we play the 5's for another 20 buy ins or just replace the 10 lost ones? ( Your input is needed and this will applyl to the 20.00 tables too). Now your br is 800....600.00+200start at the 20.00 and rinse and repeat, win 20 buy ins and quit with 700.00 or u lose 5 buy ins and back to the 10.00 tables and repeat .I wanna multi table and be smart but the amount of tables. I will not lose more than 5 buy ins (this equates to 10 of the 20 previous buy ins I just won to move up according to the system. I'll just play 5 tables. Depending on the win ratio I will always play the max tables based on the system not loosing more than 5 buy insThis system started yesterday for me cause I won yesterday and lost today so I think thats a good starting point. I actually played over 40 games sunday, but that was partially 10.00 tables so count 30 to 60 games a day. Here is my current status for the goal of winning 20- buy ins at the 5.00 Dons...steps to 700.001) Sunday- 21 games +46.20 (8 buy ins)2) Monday 38 games -45.40....running total (ZERO) Had alot of trouble on the bubble, its been one of those kinda days, and spent alot time studying and have to go to my poker meeting. cya<div class="feedflare">

Damnit, never fails, every single time I move up in levels whether it be cash games or sit and go's I get burned. I was pretty smart yesterday and in playing both the tens and fives. check this out.I won 76% ITM for over $46.00 profit in the fives, and lost $56.00 playing the tens. So it wasnt all bad. I am back to playing the fives again. Maybe after another $200.00 profit I will try again.<div class="feedflare">

Playing AK In The Early Stages Of A Sit And Go

So I got over 500 sit and go's in about 2 weeks and doing pretty well. I get alittle frustrated playing AK early on in the tourney. Sometimes it seems like a waste of money. You raise preflop, miss and cbet and get called. This can be eating into around 30% of your chips. So what if we play it based on position, and the number of callers. I need to ask is there anyone ever limping with AK to save money? Are you ever stacking off with AK preflop? Are u folding to a reraise?.............some examplesUTG+2 blinds are 15/30 and u open up for 90.00 and get 2 or more callers and miss the flop we are done, no Cbet? In the Cutoff, 4 limpers in front, you raise 120/150 and 3 callers and you miss the flop and we are done, no Cbet? Now change the above to one caller and we cbet 100% and put no more $ in if we are called? So does this sound like a good strategy for AK?<div class="feedflare">

A Great Double Or Nothing Sit And Go Strategy Article

I found this on another website . I'm not sure if someone has already posted this or a link to it but it's the best , most concise guide to DoN strategy I've seen. Online ***** - Double or Nothing SNG Tournaments By Jennifear | Published Feb 09 2009, 09:58 AMThe latest craze in the ever-changing poker world is the Double of Nothing SNG Tournament. A Double or Nothing SNG is a tournament with 10 players that pays the last five players double their buy-in amount. Although it's not a new form of poker, the recent addition of this game type to the more established poker sites has caused this boom. Like any new game, there is little information available on proper strategy. The purpose of this article will be to give you an overview of how and when your strategy should change. If you have contemplated switching to Double or Nothings, but haven't made the move yet, the section of this article defining the advantages of playing these events will be of particular interest to you. While this article is geared towards poker players who are just learning how to play these events, I'm positive that many experienced players will learn something as well.Pregame Strategy- Before the game starts, check out the lobby. If the second SNG yet to go off has four or more players registered, you have found a table with too many regulars. If you sit here, the other regulars, plus the rake, will eat into your profit enough that this game is not worth playing. It is likely to go off with 6-7 regulars, and there may not be enough fish to spread the wealth between everyone.- It is vital that you identify the regulars. Know who is who, because you are going to play one type of game against the regulars, and a totally different game against the random players.- Have enough buy-ins in your bankroll to play your game comfortably. For professionals, that's about 40 buy-ins and for recreational players who can easily replenish their bankroll, that's about 20 buy-ins.Before You Play: Basic ICM Strategy- In a $10 SNG, your starting equity is $10 and should you double up, to 3000, it becomes $15.55.Player Chips Equity Player 1 3000 $15.55 Player 2 1500 $10.55 Player 3 1500 $10.55 Player 4 1500 $10.55 Player 5 1500 $10.55 Player 6 1500 $10.55 Player 7 1500 $10.55 Player 8 1500 $10.55 Player 9 1500 $10.55 What this means to you is that, should you end up all-in on hand one, the chips that you risk are worth $10, and the chips that you stand to gain are worth $5.55. $10/$15.55 = 64.5%, so you'll need to win an early all-in confrontation approximately 2/3 of the time just to break even! Try not to get committed in any pot that you don't expect to win at least 2/3 of the time.Just to give you an idea of how tight that means you need to be, check out this fight between KK and {JJ+, AK}:Hand Pot equity KK 62.6% {JJ+,AK} 37.4% - When two players collide, the missing equity doesn't just disappear. It goes to the other players. What this means to you is that, as in the example above, when two players collided, one player loses $10.00, and the other player won $5.55. That leaves $4.45 of "missing equity". That $4.45 doesn't just disappear from the game. It gets divided up among the remaining players. In this case, $.55 goes to each of the eight players that were not involved in the clash. So, if two players do battle on the first hand, and one doubles up, your 1500 chips that were worth $10.00 are now worth $10.55. As you can see, if there is one really bad player in your SNG, this nice benefit can basically eliminate the rake for you. Later, as more players are eliminated, the "missing equity" from these clashes becomes greater, and gets divided up among less players. This means that your benefit from watching two other players collide later in the game will become immense!Early Game Tactics- To open from early position, you need a very strong hand. I would recommend opening only with big pairs and possibly AK from very early position. Feel free to play a wider range of hands in late position if your opponents in the blinds are 16-tabling regulars that are only playing 10% of the time or less against a raise.- It is very seldom correct to flat call. In general, re-raising or folding is the most appropriate avenue to take. - Don't do too much set mining. In most games, set mining requires approximately 11-1 to 15-1 implied odds to profitably try. However with the difference between cEV and $EV being as great as it is (as in the example of risking $10 to win $5.55), you now need 20-1 to 24-1 implied odds to set mine! Therefore, as a general rule, don't set mine, even at the early levels, unless you are limping behind in late position in a multi-way pot.- Your main motive at this level should be to preserve your stack, because if you succeed in doing so, this offers you the chance to threaten a large raise at the later levels. If you can maintain even just 1300-1400 chips, you'll really put the pressure on even a bigger stack to fold in the later stages. Also, tighter play may earn your raises some respect later in the game when that respect might make the difference.Mid Game Tactics- Once the antes have kicked in, the incentive to steal blinds is much greater. While the antes seem small, in relation to the blinds they are actually very great. By the time 50-100 rolls around, stealing blinds becomes an important strategy to preserve your stack.- Be aware that the shortest stacks will need to make a stand, and as a general rule, avoid playing pots where you are not at least 70% to win. This is especially important in games where more than two players have busted.- Fighting and losing against a big stack is a disaster at this point if your stack is healthy. With a healthy stack, you generally need to win 80-85% of your pots against them. Keep in mind that usually amounts to calling with AA only, and sometimes, not even that!Endgame Tactics- With 6 players remaining, so long as you are not in last place, the value of your chips is likely 85% of the final prize or greater. In a $10 SNG what that means to you is that your chips are worth approximately $17 to you, even though the prize is $20. Given this, calling shoves with even aces is often borderline, and definitely a no go if you are in 4th or better.Player Chips Equity Player 1 2500 $16.67 Player 2 2500 $16.67 Player 3 2500 $16.67 Player 4 2500 $16.67 Player 5 2500 $16.67 Player 6 2500 $16.67 - If you have a large stack, it is NOT your responsibility to eliminate players. Your responsibility to yourself is to finish top 5. Don't worry about calling with exceptional pot odds, or whatever. Your main priority is to avoid disaster. There will be times that raising or shoving is still appropriate, especially if a regular is sitting on a lot of chips behind you.- Push wide into regulars who are intelligent enough to fold, and push very tight against loose players when your stack is healthy. It is your responsibility to range the potential caller(s). There are many situations where pushing any two is correct against regulars, and pushing only the top 15% of starting hands or so is correct against others. Therefore you cannot solely rely on proper ICM recommendations, and/or knowing the Nash Equilibrium of a situation. You must adjust, so the slightest difference in an opponent's calling range can often completely change the range you should be pushing with!- Never limp pre-flop with intent to trap someone into shoving, even with AA. In other types of poker, the advantage of trapping with aces is the strong edge it gives you when you fish someone in. In Double or Nothing events, if you catch someone, you are in a situation where you are 80-85% to win, but you need to win 65-90% of the time just to break even, so your edge isn't large enough to trap. It's hardly a disaster if you raise and win the blinds, and that result will usually be just as favorable to your winning chances.- Time the blinds if you can. At key times, consider stalling to allow the blinds to move up. While this may cause the table to have a vendetta against you, if you can bring the blinds up to the point where someone else is all-in on their BB, you very well might be able to back into a top 5 finish, even with a micro stack!- If you are in last place, and the player to your left won't fold to your shoves, it may be worth it to make a borderline call on another hand to save your skin.<div class="feedflare">

I need some specific sugestions at both buy ins or dollar amounts. Whos got ideas. I intend to play close to 30 of these every day for the next 3 weeks. Could be interesting where I wind up at.
How to upload images, links and other HTML

It is really easy to upload your own images, links and other HTML in your own blog posts, leagues and other content on PokerDIY. Only certain places on PokerDIY allow HTML editing - usually it is the large text boxes on edit forms, like the Body field on a blog post or the league description when setting up a league. Firstly - you need to switch the editor from "Plain" to "Html" if it is not already in Html mode (if you can see a toolbar or little arrow above the textbox then it is already in HTML&#160;mode if it does not say). Once you have done this you should see the iconbar at the top of the textbox like this: &#160; Note: Sometimes the icon tool bar above is not expanded by default (usually when there is not space). In this case it will look like this: &#160; All you need to do then is click on the little down arrow on the left-hand side to get your toolbar. We'll now go over some of the basic formatting tricks: You can format your text with the usual cool stuff like bold, italics and different font colors. Note: You can use keyboard shortcuts like Ctr-U, Ctr-I and Ctr-B. If you want to test it out - start a new blog post and write some text and play around with it (you can always delete it if you don't like it!). If the textbox is too small you can click on the Expand button (the first icon one that looks like a monitor) to get full-size editing. Creating links is also simple - just highlight the text you want to link and click on the link button (it looks like a chainlink). Enter your URL you've got a link. You can insert smileys (and poker cards , check it out!) by clicking on the smiley face icon (you can't miss it) - start making your posts more fun and it helps a lot when showing what cards you had. The icon that looks like a picture of a sun and mountain is the Insert Image icon. Use this if you want to upload pictures into your post. You can enter a URL (if the image is online, for instance in flickr or on your website) OR you can upload it from your computer by clicking on "Browse&#160;Server". Click on the "Users" folder and in the top right you will see "Upload new File". You can use this to select a file on your PC&#160;and add it to the folder. Find it and select it to add it to your post. The last icon we'll cover is the Source icon. This one is a little technical (most users won't need it) but it can be useful. If you are familiar with HTML then you'll know that some editors can distort your HTML when pasted in from Word or other programs. If you click on the Source button you can see the HTML&#160;view of your post and make changes in direct HTML&#160;(for example, if you have bold text it will show as "&lt;strong&gt;bold text&lt;/strong&gt;". This can come in handy sometimes. There are a couple of other icons on the bar to play around with - don't be afraid to click them and see what happens - now you can make your posts more fun!<div class="feedflare">

Best x Results (Top Scores) scoring for a Season

You may have noticed a new Season scoring option today - you can now score your leaderboard on the Best x Results.
The poker league management websites comparison chart&#160; has been updated. Thanks to Wick for the feature request - please let us know what else you want for your scoreboards!
You can change this scoring setting at season level so why not try it for your next season? (obviously if you turn it on halfway through a season the scoreboard would change drastically ;)
How it works: Lets say you set it to the best 10 results over the season.
Harry plays 12 games and his best 8 are used. Mary plays 5 and all 5 of hers are used. Mark plays 9 and 8 of those 9 are used to work out their best scores for the leaderboard.
Let us know if you have any particualr scoring needs for your home poker league that we don't cater for yet!<div class="feedflare">

Man I'm Loving Razz!!

I swear Razz is the most beatable game being played right now. After playing micro-limits for a few months I finally decided to step it up a bit. I started playing $3/6 about a week ago and the players are almost just as bad as they are at $.25/.50. It was the terrible play at $.25/.50 that inspired me to move up, and bankroll isn't an issue so I moved up several levels to $3/6.
At both Pokerstars and Full Tilt I've been doing well, and finding situations where opponents can't possibly have the winning hand, yet they're raising me on 7th st.! How is it possible that people can be this bad at the game?
While the $.25/.50 games usually have 4-5 real bad players, and although there are fewer bad players at $3/6 I'm still finding at least 2 or 3 suckers at every table. Here's an example hand from a couple days ago:
Me: A3 5648 K
Opponent: XX 79QJ X
With my A3 down, of course I raised before 3rd, then bet 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. On 7th I bet, he raised, I&#160;reraised, he capped it!? The best this guy can have is 9732A when obviously I was at worst holding 87654, and likely better. This is at $3/6! Wouldn't you think donkeys like this would be playing micro-stakes?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining...I'm just scratching my head. Were we this bad at hold'em in 2003 when we first started playing? Were we playing $3/6? No wonder the pros got rich.
I know that part of the reason so many players at the Razz tables are so bad is because they're coming from HORSE, trying to learn Razz. They come to the Razz tables with little experience at the game, then leave once they have a grasp on it. This means that there's a steady stream of bad Razz poker players. This is great and it's the reason I keep playing this game.
Hey, I&#160;noticed there's a reload Pokerstars bonus right now for a free ticket to the Win a Posrche promo. It's a freeroll tournament with a Cayman S up for grabs, kinda cool. Ok, I'm out.<div class="feedflare">

Bubble Trouble

Okay, I am doing so well at the multi table sit and go's I thought the strategy would really help me at the single tables again and see if there was an improvement ......NOT............
So what I related is that I can make it to the bubble no sweat, its actually pretty easy&#160;for me (single table that is) so the issue arises making it past the bubble, and then making it past 3rd.&#160; Here are some numbers, your thoughts as usual is much appreciated.
Sat and Sun I played 38 sit and go's, made it to the bubble 21 times (pretty good huh) only made the money 12 times with 3rd 7 times, 2nd 2 times, and&#160;first 2 times-pretty bad huh.
So do you get real active on the bubble or do you bide your time.&#160; I hear so much about &#160;both strategies and dont know which is applicable as everyone knows about them.&#160; I started to improve alot late yesterday as I was reading Neil Timothy&#160; "How to beat sit and go poker tournaments"&#160; which really helped me alot in the late stage play, and the bubble.&#160; I am almost ready to give up the single table and head back to multi table sng, and double my bankroll again.&#160; HELP<div class="feedflare">

Any Sit And Go Suggestions?

After I posted my graph yesterday I made another 117.00 thru this a.m.&#160;which has officially doubled my bankroll since losing alot of it last month playing the cash games YIPPPPEEEE. &#160;Going to a free show this afternoon, no music,&#160; just a magic show for a change.
Okay.&#160; My sets currently consist of 4 5.00 2 table tourney, with 2 10.00 2 table tourney, along with 2 5.00 3 table tourney for a total of 8 games per set.&#160; It can take up to 1/2 an hour to load all 8 games as the multi table games only go once at a time unlike the single tables where there is always a game open with no player regardless how many are ready to start.&#160; I then takes up to another 1 1/2 hours to complete my set.&#160; Seems like a long time to me.&#160; I gave up playing turbos, and the double or nothings.&#160; I seem to be killing the multi table sng's.
Whats a good roi, itm for multi table tournies?&#160; All Ideas, and suggestions acknowledged.&#160; Thanks all<div class="feedflare">

Add Guest (with no email) option for Poker Leagues

You can now add Guests to your poker league. You may want to use a Guest if the person does have an email address (or want to use it for privacy reasons, even though they are never shown on PokerDIY). Another use might be if a person plays once and never again. You can add them as a Guest instead of a normal user - all you need is their name or nickname.
This feature was long overdue - most of the other poker league sites have this feature but it kinda got left behind on PokerDIY for one reason or another.
One thing to bear in mind when adding a Guest is that because they have no email their is no way to contact them or send the league report updates for example. They will not be able to log in and change their name or profile pic. It really is just a name, although they will have the complete player stats and a profile on PokerDIY.
Note: If a Guest wanted to "claim" their account for whatever reason, they would need to send an email to the League Owner who would need to approve it and let us know. We can then update their profile, they can request a Forgotten PW&#160;and they are no longer a guest...
What other features do you need for your league?<div class="feedflare">

Introducing Bluff Avenue: Play private online poker games

Hello, my name's Kevin Tao, and I'd like to announce a new website I created, Bluff Avenue, now in public beta! Bluff Avenue is a site where you can play poker for free, no downloads required. There are plenty of online poker sites to choose from, you might be thinking. &#160;What's different about Bluff Avenue? &#160; It's Social Online Poker On most online poker sites you play against random strangers. There's not much of a social element--you show up, you play, you win or lose. Maybe you get berated for drawing to that inside straight. :) On Bluff Avenue, the whole focus is on the social side of the game: playing online poker with your friends. You create a group for your friends, you create private online poker games for them to play in (cash games, tournaments, and sit &amp; go's), you choose the stakes and the rules in effect. Use Bluff Avenue's brand new TableTalk VOIP feature to voice chat with your friends as you play! &#160;No more typing into cramped chat windows. &#160;All you need is a microphone--no special software or set-up is required! Poker Your Way Play Texas Hold'em and Omaha with optional rules that you might use in your home game but don't usually find on online sites: Live straddles Checking in the dark Calling the clock Rabbit hunting Showing a hole card while in a hand Even play the Seven-Deuce game!

Okay since last sunday (1 week) I got 164 sit and go's done. I started out with the regular DoNs, then tried some DoN turbos. I discovered that even when you doulbe up in turbo early, it still may not be enuff to carry you thru. You have less hands and have to shove, and steal way sooner than a regular sit and go.Then I started the 2 and 3 table sit and gos. I hit the jackpot dudes!!!! I know its still early, but a great start.87 reg DoNs ROI 6.4%, ITM 57.5% for a profit of $30.2024 turbo DoNs ROI -11.9%, ITM 45.8% and a loss of$14.8031 2 Table regulars ROI 52.89%, ITM 32.3% for a profit of $87.0522 3 Table regulars ROI 50.00%, ITM 31.8% for a profit of $56.70.......So this is thru last saturday. Since them I have doubled my profits and the 2 table tournies, and lost 1/2 my profit in the 3 table tournies. I also noticed that in my 2 table tourneys I have only bubbled out 4X in 58 games. I was thinking of quitting the 3 tables, and concentrate on the 2 tables, and get more games in. Having fun, cya<div class="feedflare">

Send a personalized Poker League Scoreboard Report to your Players

After a good poker game the league host&#160;normally&#160;updates the league scoreboard and sends out an email with a report about the game and a link to the latest results.
This is something that is usually done every time the scoreboard changes after a game and takes some time. We decided to make this easier by adding a new feature to all poker leagues on PokerDIY - League admins/deputies can now send generated league leaderboard reports with just a few clicks.
Each player will receive a personalized report about the league, ie. where they are ranking currently, how many points they have, how much cash they have won (hopefully) and how many times they have been hitman etc.
It will also show the top 3 positions, who is coming last, who has lost the most cash, won the most cash and a lot more...
Here is an email snapshot from a recent&#160;home game to give you an example:

This was an actual&#160;league scoreboard report sent for the Sydney Home Poker League.
If you manage your poker league on PokerDIY you can send your own players reports right now. Go to your poker league home page and click on "Scoreboard Report". You can chose which of your poker league members receive the report (only the active players this season, or ALL&#160;of your poker league members?) and include message if you want.
We've got some great enhancements for this feature planned:

    Twitter integration
Auto-scheduling (everytime the scoreboard changes we can send a report)
    and loads more!

Thanks to the PokerDIY&#160;member who suggest this feature, we've updated the Poker League Feature Comparison Chart!
Let us know what else you'd find useful for your home poker league...<div class="feedflare">

Add players to game filter - Active season players

There's a nifty new feature on the "Add Players to Game" screen which should help the larger leagues when adding poker games. In the past, this screen showed all your league members. So imagine a home poker league that has been running for for a few years (maybe a season per year) and had around 80 members. Some of these members might not play regularily or haven't played since the first season. This made the adding players to your game a little tricky to navigate. So now there is a nice little filter you can use to only show the players that are active for the current season (Active means they have played in a poker game this season). It will default to this filter if you have more than 20 league members to make it even easier. &#160; Remember to give us your feedback and raise your poker league feature requests here - what do you want to see on PokerDIY?<div class="feedflare">

I can't believe just how popular poker has become in the past 3 to 4 years. People from all around the world are playing and playing all different variations.

Of course, the most popular is texas holdem, but you can't ignore the other variations like draw and stud.

I've found a lot of content on the internet is useful, but I found a great resource at www.onlinegambling.com, specifically the
online poker
section of their website.<div class="feedflare">

Moving on.........

Thanks so much to all of you for your input and comments. Its all really much appreciated. I am still waiting to hear back from that big bank. I really do want the job.......So I have been playing alot of sng's (double or nothing). I am not sure which fits better the turbos, or regulars. I know that you can play more turbos, and make more money. The turbos seem to be more of a gamble and a luck fest. I've been reading up on sng's and they say you have to know the other players. How can that be. I have seen this one guy, and others playing close to 40 tables. How in the heck can you be playing the player. Believe me I know all about multi tabling. So far playing the regulars tables I have 84 games in my pocket with a ITM of 60%. I think my goal will be to win 500.00 and then move up to the 10.00 tables. Ive been avg about 30 games a day, mostly 6 at a time. If you guys have any strategy posts guides let me know. Cya<div class="feedflare">

I Give Up.....I Surrender

It's over, atleast for now. I am quitting NL cash games. Just when I thought I was moving forward, and I was. Who hit the Doomswitch and why?I had just got a handle on restealing, positional poker, stealing, 3 betting and Cbet. All were showing profits. I even had profits in the SB over 1,000's of hands. I say WOW. But Nooooo.............I lose 1/2 my bankroll in 2 days. Guess how I l lose it! I lose it at showdown. I only play 50BB (can you imagine if I bought in for 100BB----can u say broke). I had a good strategy of only playing top pair, top kicker and overpairs to the board. This amount enabled me to Preflop bet, Pot the flop, and then pot the turn, and I was done, That's all I had....no river play. Bad beat upon Bad beat...one after the other. It was relentless. I mean c'mon...I usually had the best hand pre and or on the flop. I still cannot win. DONE...So what do I do now....Play sit and go's. I guess so. Yep, thats what I will blog about...or maybe I will get lucky and land the job I applied for with a big bank. Cya<div class="feedflare">

A Lizzards Slow Death

Well I feel horrible and not sure what to do. Yesterday I heard a noise in the garage, thinking maybe a rodent I didnt give it much thought. Later in the day I was in the garage again and heard a noise, and this time I checked it out. I discovered that a lizzard (6 inches long) chased a bug into bug glue trap which is placed by a tiny opening in the garage from outside. So it was horribly glued by his head and feet. I starting thinking maybe I can free him, so I started to pry at his head and feet, but to no avail. For a minute I thought if he lost some body parts they would regrow ( isnt that just the tail?) What If I did free him, could his mouth be possibly glued shut (a real possibility) and if he lost his feet would he make it?Today, he is still alive and trapped. and now the thought comes do I leave him to die, and throw in the garbage can or do I put him out of his misery first......I dont know????????????????<div class="feedflare">

For those of you who didn't know, PokerDIY&#160;was due to be upgraded to a&#160;new core version today (this would have meant some cool new features - more on this later).
Unfortunately things didn't go as planned!&#160;7 hours of downtime later and we finally managed to restore our site to exactly how it was. For this we whole-heartedly aplogise and we promise it will never happen again ;)
In a nutshell, our engineers hit some hicups which tested our backup/restore processes to the max. At least we know they work, albeit a little slow!
So... the upgrade is still planned but it's been postponed for a week or two while we get our act together to make sure this does not happen again!
Thanks for your patience...<div class="feedflare">

I hate driving out to the casinos ,and I recently found a place on the northwest corner of 51st ave and northern, that has a really cool mixed 3-6 poker game during the days. And a 3-6 and a 4-8 holdem game that starts at 6pm really nice people and every time ive been there they always are ordering pizza or subs, or other home cooked meals for the players. So if your looking for a good limit game check it out its called VIP POKER<div class="feedflare">
