DOJ indicts founders of top US online poker sites – Seizes Domain Names

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Federal authorities unsealed an indictment Friday against the founders of the three largest internet poker companies operating in the U.S. The indictment charges eleven defendants, including the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker, with bank fraud, money laundering, and illegal gambling offenses, according to Federal authorities in New York. Restraining orders were issued against more than 75 bank accounts used by the poker companies and their payment processors, while five Internet domain names used by the companies to host poker games were seized, federal authorities added in a statement.

Vancouver’s Ben “NeverscaredB” Wilinofsky Wins EPT Berlin

Canadian poker player Ben “NeverscaredB” Wilinofsky took down a field of over 750 players to take down European Poker Tour Berlin. Ben has had a a great amount of success in online tournaments finally broke through and made his first cash in a live tournament for a huge pay day of €825,000 ($1,138,000 CAD).

I played just over $1200 in buy ins today and cashed for about half that to put me about $600 in the red for the session. I played tournaments on Party Poker, Ultimate Bet, Poker Stars, Full Tilt Poker and Playnow.com with buy ins ranging from $5 to 2 Sunday Majors at $215.

I played nearly 30 tournaments today. I’ve listed a few of the the more notable ones below.

Party Poker, 2x $33, $55, $99, $109
Poker Stars: $22, $55 – $300,000 Gtd., $215 – Sunday Million
PlayNow.com: $55 – $6000 Gtd, $215 – $15,000 Gtd.
Ultimate Bet: $55

I min cashed the party poker $33 and $55 tournaments and bubbled the $99 which was frustrating. My only other cash game from a deep run in the $55 $300,000 guaranteed tournament on pokerstars. I managed to finish 70th out of just over 7300 participants for a pay day of about $550.

The Vancouver Poker League ( http://www.604poker.com/ ) also hosted its weekly tournament series tonight which consisted of a $11 Pot Limit Omaha, $11 No Limit Holdem and a $11 Badugi tournaments. It was a lot of fun and I ran decent which resulted in me winning the pot limit omaha event. I bubbled the badugi tournament and busted out midway through the no limit holdem. Can’t wait to play these events again next week!

Another Small Victory

I’m having a pretty good month on party poker so far. I’ve only played about 15 tournaments so far but have managed a 5th place finish in the $55 buy in $10,000 guaranteed and two 1st place finishes in the nightly $33 buy in $2500 guaranteed ( the second win came tonight ).

I probably skip out on grinding Friday night to go out with friends but will be back at it Saturday morning to put in a session before watching UFC and then a big session Sunday like usual.

Monday Grind

I took the weekend off from poker to spend some time in Vancouver with my girlfriend while she was visiting. We did some fun tourist activities like visiting the Vancouver Aquarium and Granville Island Market Place during the day and then spent the evenings enjoying the night life of Granville Street and Yale Town. It was a nice change from staring at the computer screen for 14 hours on a Sunday.

Monday night after work I decided to squeeze in a quick session.

I Bricked 3 tournaments on Ultimate Bet ( $66 – $10k Gtd, $66 – $7k Gtd, and $27.50 – $10k Gtd). I had built up a good stack in the $66 7k but lost KK vs QQ and then AJs vs KQo to end my chances.

On Pokerstars I had deep runs in a bunch of low stakes tournaments but didn’t manage any final tables.

16th / 1300ish in a $13.50 Knock out Tournament.
58th / 2400ish in the $8 – $16k Gtd Turbo.
and a couple other min cashes.

My best result of the night came on Party Poker in there $33 – $2500 Gtd. I came in to the final table as one of the shorter stacks but was able to win a few key hands earlier ( KQ vs QJ, 88 vs A6 ) to give myself some room to work with. Eventually the tournament got down to one opponent and I. With a board reading 3 – 8 – T – J all the chips went in and my Jack-Eight held on to beat his Jack-9 to give me the victory and a small pay out of just over $800 for taking down a field of 95 players.

Phil Hellmuth on dancing with the stars?

According to sources professional poker player Phil Hellmuth will be taking part in ABC’s 12th season of “Dancing with the Stars”. The cast list is not yet confirmed but other rumored participants include Jennifer Beals from Flashdance, Candace Cameron from Full House, Carlos Leon (Madonna’s ex boyfriend), talk show host Wendy Williams, Playboy’s Kendra Wilkinson, Brett Favre, actor Lorenzo Lamas, and former Miss America Lee Meriweather.

The official cast announcement will take place on February 28th during an episode of “The Bachelor” with the first episode set to premiere March 21st.
