{POLISHED} New York Fashion Week Favs…

Wow! As I walked the streets of New York during this Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week I got excited. Why? Because for the first time in years, I saw women walking around in color! In the fashion industry we wear black (black suits, black pumps, black shirts, black pants), you can say it’s our uniform. However, when I see color worn well, I know a person has confidence and to me that is everything!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the runways covered in sophisticated color. I’m not saying totally ditch your neutrals, but do get inspired to start adding some {rockin} color now. Check it out…

Pretty in Pale Pink {Embrace Your Tone}

Pink is one of those colors that can be beautiful on any skin tone as long as it’s the right shade. Pale Pink is actually one of my favorite current trends. Why? Because it’s soft, feminine, and just…pretty!

As with any color, the key to wearing pale pink well is to find the perfect shade for your skin tone. Everyone’s complexion has an undertone and certain shades of color will enhance that tone and not overpower you.

When you wear the right color you’ll know it- you’ll glow. People won’t be able to quite put their finger on why you look so amazing that day, but they’ll notice something is different. The compliments just won’t stop coming.

So find the shade of pale pink that complements you and {rock} it!

The {Polished} Guide to Beauty

A truly Polished woman places as much emphasis on her beauty routine as she does her wardrobe. The perfect outfit is only enhanced by groomed hair, a finished face (including those brows!), and manicured hands and feet. It’s about the whole package!

I believe every woman has to invest the time to find those products that work best for her. It may take some trial and error, but once you know what works for you, those items become your beauty staples-ensuring you always look and feel hot!

To polish my look, I must have…

1. Skin Care

I discovered Erno Lazlo in my teens, and from day one, I was hooked! My two essentials are the Sea Mud Soap and the Regular Normalizer Shake-It. As a mom on the move, I can always count on both of these products to keep my skin clean and glowing.

2. Blush

I absolutely love blush! Even if you only wear the makeup basics (light foundation, mascara, and gloss) blush should be in the mix. It gives your face a pop of color and you’ll look fresh and finished. I recommend Youngblood Mineral Cosmetic’s Pressed Mineral Blush!

3. Nail Polish

Lord knows I love a great basic! My personal wardrobe stocked with them at all times or else I just can’t take my looks to the next level. I love playing with necklaces, bracelets, earrings, shoes, and handbag combinations. You will be surprised at how a new accessory will rejuvenate something you already owned. I truly believe if you get the basic silhouette right it’s only going to get better from there. Let’s face it, as women we are hard to fit as we get older. So when we find that amazing garment, and tailor it to perfection, it’s a big deal and sometimes no cheap!

Winter Outerwear {Wardrobe Audit}

The first day of winter was yesterday, December 22^nd to be exact. So it’s definitely time for women around the Washington DC metro to make sure their winter outerwear wardrobe is together. As the temperatures drop, I urge you to audit your current closet to ensure the proper items are in your current wardrobe. This will ensure that your personal style does not suffer during the harsh winter weather. Remember, your personal image and how you’re present yourself to the public is important regardless of your lifestyle (Stay at home mom, working professional, or retiree).

I have listed the items you need to keep you warm and absolutely polished below, happy audit!

Heavy Coats: You need a coat that layers over a sweater of light weight sweater well. No need to feel like a sausage, go up a size.

Coordinating Hat, Scarf, and Gloves: Currently oversized scarves are the trend. I also love when the scarf is of a print in the proper scale and color to compliment a person’s natural coloring and features.

Boots: I recommend that you invest in 3 pair (1. Rain/Snow Boot, 2. Dress Boot, and 3. Casual Boot), this will ensure you have a shoe for every weather condition and situation. Also make sure they are comfortable, walking in uncomfortable shoes in the snow is the worst!

POLISHED Tip: Don’t be caught with clashing colors, fabrics and prints in public, which can send a message that reads unorganized, or worse low self worth. Try hanging your winter outerwear together in coordinated sets. This ensures that you can access it easily as your running out the door. These days everyone is on the go!
